Dredd taking on a whole City Block of bullet timing drug addicts? Awww yeah.

Quote:It may have that level of power, but it clearly doesn't work like a cosmic cube or the mere act of holding it should have allowed anyone to wield at least some of its power. There would have been no need to build elaborate technology around it. In the movie-verse it appears to be an enigmatic energy source that requires some sophistication to tap reliably and safely, or at least that appears to be true for the puny humans and Asgardians that interact with it.
Or, more amusingly, the tesseract works just like the comic cosmic cube, but its just no-one thought to pick up this radiation emmiting power source with bare hands and make a wish. Given what happened to Red Skull, its plausible thats where they are going with it.
Loki is going to be kicking himself when he finds out! -
Quote:Just out of interest, what exactly do you envision Secret Identity gameplay actually being?Day jobs was a big let down. I log off and that's playing a game? Where do I get to be mild mannered? And though cell phones may have made Superman's phone booth obsolete, I can still spin around in a circle and change from Diana Prince to Wonder Woman can't I? No? What do you mean, "No"? Super heroes have a secret identity. That secret identity is usually where hero tasks come from. You're missing out on that whole side of the story/experience. Day jobs has potential to be all new fresh content. An additional and completely different costume potential lies here. Day Jobs can become a facet of the Secret Identity game play of CoH.

Quote:I took that more as an irresitable force hitting an immovable object, The energy had to go somewhere.I also liked how Mjöllnir took being swung against the only person on earth who could lift it. Unless I misunderstood that part, of course.
However, they did show hulk not being able to lift it, so you know that somewhere theres a plan for Cap to be able to.
EDIT:
oh, and I loved the little bit with Loki and the arrow.
And the fact that Whedon snuck a pretty offensive insult past the censors. -
I can't think of anything in the film that I would equate to a zone event. We never see the Fantastic Four standing in the background, having their costume contest disrupted by alien invaders. Its more like a single team of heroes in a story arc/tf/trial. Possibly a safeguard mission.

There was also the Captain Awesome stuff done around the time of Mission Architect.

Also, you'd probably want to look into on-line and magazine articles and features, since they are essentially adverts. -
Quote:I think the pinging sound would probably be pretty quiet, it is just the sound of the metal expanding under pressure. Probably quieter than the sound of the clockwork engines. But the brass sub "sneaking up" and pinging every 33 feet just kind of... it just doesn't *work* for me. I mean, c'mon, we've got people who argued what model of destroyer the ones introduced with Sutter were. Some things just kind of end up really, really *jarring* (and they're different things for different people - this just happened to hit me that way.)

Just got back from seeing it and.... OMG, its utterly fantastic! It is The Avengers. Like... better than I ever imagined. Its got all this stuff going on, amazing action set pieces, crowning moments of awesome for all the characters but it also tells a story that makes sense (in terms of itself and what happens in the other films), has time for some excellent character moments and interplay between the characters. And it is also utterly (intentionally) hilarious, there were a few lines I missed because I couldn't hear them over the laughter.
This is my favourite portrayal of the Hulk, ever. They build him up with such respect and when he finally shows up, its fantastic. He also gets some of the funniest moments in the film.
Loki is a lot of fun as the badguy too.
Basically, if you like superheroes or movies or movies about superheroes.... Go See It. -
I'd guess the Player Summit would be a reasonable time to launch the VIP beta too, probably also coinciding with the Scif-Fi Costume pack and some teases/reveals of a few new upcoming Powersets and the next set of SSAs.

Hmm... how much does it cost to buy two bullets?
-
Though Ultimate Hawkeye is more like bullseye, in that he can turn anything into weapon ( i know there was a scene where he killed a bunch of people by pulling out his own finger nails and throwing them). It will be interesting to see what version of Hawkeye we get in the film.
-
Just saw it, and thought it was pretty darn nifty. It was very pretty, had some good humour, fun fights and all in all good movie.

Quote:But, Hawkeye is a much better archer than the person who wrote the article, so we can safely conclude that he knows what he is doing. a) is actually evidence of how awesome he is, since he doesn't even need to use the full power of his bow! As for b), its entirely possible that Hawkeye is so tough that he simply doesn't mind if his bowstring hits him.Based on the analysis of the wired author, two of the things Hawkeye does right and everyone else does wrong is a) he doesn't use the full power of his bow and b) he injures himself when he fires.
"Injures himself when he fires" is serious competition for worst superpower ever.
In conclusion, can the writer of the article do this? If not, then their argument is invalid.
I mean, two of those arrows aren't even touching the bow at all. That's how good an archer he is! -
If you are going for a CoH feeling, why include random damage instead of using fixed damage?
-
Its possible that the reverse is true: Since we know that Hawkeye is in fact the world's best archer, it stands to reason the way he is doing it is right and everyone else has it wrong.

Quote:Strangely, I think the BBC funding thing is actually why Top Gear can be the way it is. On a commercial channel, they would risk having sponsors/advertisers pulling out due to controversey. That can't happen on the BBC, so they can pretty much make what they want (within their charter, of course). This is why the likes of Top Gear get away with so much, they know the controversey is one of the things that makes people watch it and sell so well, especially abroad.
As for the Daleks at war thingy, yes, it was silly, juvenile, not particularly good, had a few dodgy(ish) special effects and quite a few plot holes. On the other hand, it was kind of fun. As such, it's pretty much right on par for a lot of Doctor Who. -
He is, in fact, mute. However, he is also magic and thus can talk.
-
Yeah, the having to log into a character to claim and open the packs is just pointless busy work. All the items go back into your e-mail when you reciev them, then you can claim them on whatever characters you like.

I was going via the CoX definitions of Origin, which I think might be confusing the issue slightly.
Quote:I chose him because he has a place in pop culture as the closest to what would be considered a mutant in terms of CoX. The facts of the matter have little bearing, you say The Elephant Man and everyone pretty much has this picture in their heads.Well, I doubt any aspiring mutant looks up to Merrick...or got the same mutation...or honestly cares about his sideshow (since that is particularly what makes him 'legend', which, frankly, is stretching the designated definition WAAAAY too much).
Quote:I doubt you could consider what Kelly used as 'tech' since bullet proof armor was invented far before his time. He just took it a step farther with *thicker* plated armor. Not like he steam powered it or something. If he's a tech legend, his technology would be legendary. It's not. It's what he *did* with the armor that would make him any kind of legend.
Quote:But another reason I say 'Natural Legend' is because the focus of the legend is on the *person*, not just what the person did. The person has the legend around them, not their inventions or their mutation or their scientific discoveries (although I'd probably say things akin to Einstein's theories had legendary effects on the world of math and science all their own). Even *if* whatever the person does is scientific or magical, the *person* is still natural. And the legend is around them.
Quote:To rephrase/clarify the OP; if you're writing a piece of fiction (could involve going to the past, bringing something to the present, cloning the person, a reincarnate or what have you) what I'm wanting to hear is how those legends hold up. Would Houdini still be awesome (the most awesome)? Would Nostradamus see what has yet to be seen clearer than anyone? Would Merrick...I dunno...be more mutanty than...mutantish...mutants?
That's why I asked if anyone based characters on Legends like them. It'd kind of put perspective on these people from the past vs what is here now in the present.
Houdini would be interesting, since what would he do in a word where magic and ghosts are commonplace? Would he become the magician he pretended to be? Perhaps, he'd become our version of Mysterio, using high-tech trickery to perform feats that would leave real mages scratching their heads in wonder?
Robin Hood, I can see working perfectly well. The Rogue Isles would be a perfect place for him to rob from the rich and give to the poor. I'm not so sure he'd use bow and arrows though. At the time those were the weapons of war, so there's no reason why he wouldn't update to use the current height of technology, with he and his merry men staging ambushes on Arachnos with laser rifles.
Crowley's soul would probably be in a Oranbegan crystal somewhere.
Merrick would probably be much better off, since Mutations tend to come with some useful benefits. Maybe a Superstrength and Invulnerability Tanker called Elephant Man! -
Here are a few suggestions for the other legndary categories:
Legendary Mutant: Joeseph Merrick
Legendary Technology: Ned Kelly
Legendary Magic: Harry Houdini, Alester Crowley, Rasputin, Nostradamus (Ok, not real magic, but the stories and legends surrounding them have grown to the point where they are synonomous with having magical powers) -

I'm not that interested in the Super Packs, though mainly for the horribly clunky implementation. Why do we have to go through the rigmarole with the claiming an a particular character and the salavge and all that? Couldn't we just buy and open them in the store?

Quote:Wootles McBootles!Hey Guys,
Just wanted to let you know that I am very excited to bring to you something that you have been asking for, for a long time...
By some small miracle I had some spare time in my schedule in this milestone. So rather than spend the day twiddling my thumbs, I have ported the following Costume Pieces over to female:
Thanks!
