  1. I agree with everyone saying get Practiced Brawler ASAP.

Also, don't forget you can put enhancements for reduced endurance into your attacks as well as your defences, it really makes a difference on an end-heavy build.
  2. With regard to whether to have a prize or not, I have an idea.

Have a heroes tournament with an entrance fee and a prize. Have a villains tournament with an entrance fee and a prize. The two champions fight for the honour of being overall champion.

That way, you get to have a prize to tempt people in, and you also get to involve both factions.
  3. Only one way to settle this, we'll fight for the spot in the arena, winner gets to do the TF
  4. I think that makes 8 already, but if anyone's a no-show I should be free to lend a hand, @doomsy if you want to drop me a tell (41 bots/dark)
  5. Pirate Lass, BS/Regen, think she's level 6 or thereabouts.

Any days are good apart from Fridays, Saturdays and 1 in 4 Wednesdays *cough*wrestlingppv*cough*. As for times, I work so weekday evenings, or any time Sundays.

I rarely go on Lass though, if you wanna get in touch in game my global's @Doomsy
  6. There's an interview in this month's PCZone where they say they're working on new powersets for the next issue, so I'm pretty sure there will be new ones in i11.
  7. Anyone fancy doing something along these lines at some point over the weekend, then? Ideally, I'd get some new players together (and maybe a vet or two) and do a few missions, showing them all the ropes. Free Raptor Packs for all!
  8. I have a lowbie regen, could drag her out of mothballs if this ever goes ahead...
  9. Thanks for the responses guys, seems like there could be some interest in this. I'm still going over some ideas of how it could work.

I'd be interested in talking to anyone who was involved in the College of War/E.V.I.L University to see how you went about things, and what worked and what didn't. Alvan, would you mind if I got in touch with you in-game sometime, or would forum PMs be easier?
  10. I've been thinking recently, that while the answers to just about any question you could possibly ask about CoX are here on the boards, only a minority of players actually use the forums. Now, in Eve Online they had a Corporation (basically an SG) called Eve University which took in new players and showed them the ropes of the game, depending on what they wanted to do. It was fairly successful at the time but fell apart due to having war declared on them by several factions (Be very thankful we don't have non-consensual PVP )

So I was thinking, could something like this work in CoH? I'm far from an expert on anything, but would any veterans be willing to spare some time to give advice to less knowledgable players? Even experienced players could probably learn a lot from something like this - I've been playing on and off for three years but could still do with attending 'Tanking 101'

I've got a few ideas on how it could work, but it's still at the ideas stage really. Anyone interested can reply here or send a tell to @Doomsy.

If this has been done already, then apologies, I haven't seen any sign of it though.
  11. Sounds fun, got a MA/SR scrapper who could do with a workout.

I'm a total Hami noob, but can follow simple instructions ok so that shouldn't be a problem, I have a question though. Someone I did the STF with mentioned a 'Hami costume' to reduce lag - can anyone enlighten me as to what that's all about? Also, if a special costume is necessary, is it possible to get a 5th cossie slot at 50?

    Issue 10 event!

    Brickstown. Rooftops. Victory or death.

(And yeah, if they let us know in advance when it's dropping, a day off work is totally on the cards
  13. Sounds like fun, I can bring my MA/SR if there's still space. Can be around by 6ish, more like 7ish if I can drag my [censored] outside for a run though. If I'm not there by 6ish don't hang around, but I'll /tell you when I get on either way.
  14. Hey Arctic, think we did the STF together Friday night, I was the dashing MA scrapper...

Despite there only being 6 of us, things were going pretty well till we hit GW. She's just a pain Aeon was a wuss though, dunno what all the fuss is about...

A few of us went on a nuke/shivan run yesterday while the pvp zones were quiet (all the pvpers were levelling, see...), so hopefully will go a bit smoother next time. If you're planning on doing it again, let me know in-game and I'll come along if possible.
  15. Mission accomplished. It took 8 hours, but we did it

Thanks to everyone who took part, was a bit grueling towards the end but it was fun.

Sub Cool, I hope you got your badge/reward, we got to the last mission and were gonna clear it without destroying the portals and do that when you came back, but *someone* was a bit overzealous with the nukes...Not sure if you get your stuff if you're not in the mission but I hope so.

Nine_Claws, you were right, the storyline was rubbish and it was basically one massive grind session... I wish I'd done Sarah Moore instead now. Half the missions just felt like massive time sinks rather than something interesting, this was definitely the worst TF I've done so far content-wise. Luckily we had a good team so it wasn't as bad as it could have been though
  16. True, you seem to get more salvage soloing than teaming, but that's an issue with teaming generally and not specific to TFs.

Personally I'm in it for the storyline and the exp, profiteering at Wentworths is so easy there's no real need to fight stuff for cash anyway

Ta for mentioning the badge, I'd forgotten about it, I'll try Union Badgehunters tonight and see if anyone is interested.
  17. Cool, there's someone in my SG up for it and another interested if they're not busy. So that makes 4 or 5 already...any more takers?
  18. Yeah, I had heard it was a bit of a marathon, which is why I asked for brave souls rather than just anybody

Not quite sure what you mean by not much reward, the Task Force storylines are usually pretty interesting and it's no less XP/inf/salvage than spending the same amount of time mission running, is it?

    Ta for the advice though
  19. I need 7 brave souls, Security Level 40 and over, to help with a dangerous situation Dr Quarterfield wants me to deal with. If anyone's interested, leave a post here or contact @Doomsy in Paragon.

I was planning on starting this on Saturday (9th) at noon.
  20. Damn, there's no way lvl 45 is happening by friday

Still, my scrapper is getting closer to 50 every day, and there's DXP weekend coming up, so hopefully I'll be along for the next one (Want my first ever character to hit 50 first, it's the MM's turn when he's done...)
  21. What level would I need to be for this? Sounds like fun, I have a lvl 40 bots/dark so if he's man enough for ya count me in. If not, I guess I could forgo a few days worth of Scrapper Time (TM) to try and get him higher...
  22. Sounds like fun...a proper auction with an auctioneer like on Bargain Hunt would be awesome

    Powerlevelling

If you just want to have fun, there's no need to PL. It's a fun game to play at any level, so it doesn't really come into it. If you happen to SK a buddy who's a few levels higher then great, you level quicker and still have fun. But if you're stuck in a group that gives great XP but bores you to tears, then what's the point?

My view is, I play to have fun, XP is just something that happens while I'm doing it.

Also, asking outright for a PL is a bad idea, much better to ask someone in your SG who's higher level if they fancy some company - they'll have to SK you either way so you get the same benefit, but it's a much nicer way to go about it.
  24. I have a lowbie Claws/DA scrapper, lots of fun to play so far, plan to build him into an AoE machine.

If you want a 1-on-1 type scrapper, MA/Reflexes comes highly recommended. Again, lots of fun to play.

Personally, I'd say if you wanted to go MA/DA then go for it, people are warning you about end issues but that's easy to enhance out of - I'd suggest you go for it and if you don't like it, try again. Took me about a dozen re-rolls with various power sets for me to get the blaster I wanted (had the character idea, but not the right powers), but now I have what I want and it's great.

It's more fun learning how to play your own unique character, and working round any problems with it, than follow someone else's cookie-cutter guide anyhow. In my opinion, of course.

scrapping solo or in small teams is ok but in big teams I find it tedious and chaotic--maybe it's just me.

I find big teams tedious and chaotic no matter what character I'm using. I tend to solo or stick to smaller teams, the xp per second is probably not as good but I enjoy smashing people in the face, not watching a bar slowly fill as I play anyway.

Personally, I can't stand playing as a controller or a defender. It feels like I'm spending my leisure time making it easier for someone else to play a game, which I just don't find satisfying. Don't get me wrong, it's great playing with them and I can understand someone enjoying their AT, but it's just not for me. That's why there's more than one AT, I guess.
