Who are you kidding? There were 4 people there. Great turn of phrase there, Psy!!!

^^^^^^This....
To be honest the above statement is why I suggested something like the League be rekindled. Players were given an opportunity to get a firsthand feel for how competitive ladder teams worked. Complete with practices(to include basice strategies @JoeQPlayer never even knew were common pvp practice).Add counterlineups etc etc etc. Things that@JoeQ would never put in the equasion in a pvp environment were put into practice.Experience in a solid team environment is a great way to learn the ropes.
The League of the past wasn't the place for killer competitiveness and epeen flashes. Although toward the end there were some pretty hairy, hella fun matches. Some fun rivalries too!!A draft League like the original( yea that quote in the topic header is is my post) is to revisit the spirit of comraderie in that first League and hopefully recruit some new pvp players to the fun that can be had rather than leave the bully on the playground attitude that seems to pervade most of the populace and turn them off to even trying.
There are alot of great people in the pvp communitee. Share that . Be open to running a team with a few newies.Look at it as a fun time and also seperating wheat from chafe. The good ones will stick around and those that dont get it will go on their way( but hopefully with a more positive outlook and better understanding of current pvp). Either way its a 'win win". More blood for the competitive ladder soon( the wheat) and more people promoting pvp rather than trashing it(the chafe).
Edited to add: Educated chafe in zones will also enhance that play for everyone.
One more thing. I am no pvp Goddess. I have, however, witnessed first hand the highpoints of pvp(yay!) and it's devolution (argh ;(!!!!)in this game over the years. We have what we have now . Let's make the best of whats left and put our feet forward. -
I don't even know if shooting for 8v8 is halfway to balanced with the current incantation. On one hand smaller rosters are needed to field a lineup. So the league could actually be viable with fewer Captains and smaller overall rosters. Thatsa positive.I am not the numbers guru. I do know that even if it was a huge pain to get going last time around. Alot of players had fun participating and did stick on test and find a spot in the competitive ladder as a result of the draft league.Just sayin......
Noone seems interested in Captaining at this point so I guess a "draft league" like was run before is a pipe dream.
edited to add: We have a week of free transfer left. I dont think designating Freedom as the home of the Draft League( if it ever gets going) is an unreal or biased choice. All players can move ONE( or 2 or 3) pvp character over for free if they want to participate. It's also alot easier to get to 50 these days than it used to be.Gear is a semi issue but not so much if you think about all the various dr's these days.On an aside.. I don't think the developers ever wanted the testserver to be home for competitive pvp. It's up to you guys//gals to fix that and go forward. Freedom is as good a place as any. -
edited: I answered my own question with the second readthrough. My apologies.

I would lose fighting and invisible pools and focus on your main power pools. You didnt post your typical attack chain. Any toon needs a solid chain and by taking too many auxilliaries early you may be undercutting the potential performance. You have your travel picked and definitely need fitness. Flesh out your primaries and pick more auxilliary powers when you've leveled a bit more.

Philly answered your question on page1, Lucky. This event is a PVPEC event and the same exact event is being held crosserver with the same exact format. The particular format is one that was chosen for THIS event. That's all.
To add to more info for your question.. Anyone willing to volunteer time can join Pvpec. A common misconception by the playerbase is that Pvpec reps are some sort of elite pvp'ers who were indoctrined into the VOLUNTEER COMMITEE based on pvp knowledge and//or prowess. That is an incorrect ASSumption that is often made( no offense Pvpec reps). Most of the time it is comprised of players willing to volunteer time and effort to promote pvp in the game. Sometimes reps have alot of experience and sometimes they do not.Like I said it's a VOLUNTEER commitee that any player can join no matter level of experience in pvp. Pvpec runs many different types ofevents with many different types of rules with the hopes of garnering more INTEREST for PVP in general. That's why you get an event like this one with a certain ruleset and maybe next month there will be an event with a completely different ruleset. The purpose of Pvpec is to run events that put pvp on the foreront and get more players interested.
tl;dr version^^^
In short. If the rules of this event aren't something that looks fun to you( understood you) chances are the next event or even the one after that one might be more appealing.<3
Edited to add a link on where to find out more about Pvpec:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=200926
http://pvpec.guildportal.com/Guild.a...&TabID=1463928
Looks like the Pvpec site is pretty out of date but the committee statement etc are there. Happy reading!!!
Edited once more to add these in case you dont feel like searching the site:
The PVPEC is a group of dedicated City of Heroes/City of Villains players formed for the purpose of promoting increased PvP interest and participation across the game as a whole. The aim of this group is to provide high quality player-driven content to the game community in such a way as to bring PvP to a greater audience, as well as retaining its current constituency.
The PvPEC has three primary goals:
1) To retain a currently diminishing population of dedicated PvP players by providing incentive to keep them interested in City of Heroes/City of Villains PvP.
2) To increase PvP interest in the casual and new player by providing an introduction and educational opportunities on the distinctions between the PvP system and the rest of the game, as well as providing incentive for participating in that portion of the game.
3) To bridge the gap between PvP play and PvE play through storylines that attempt to seamlessly integrate established PvP habits, trends and activites into the extant City of Heroes/City of Villains mythos, with the goal of making PvP meaningful in a world-advancing way.
The overall mission of the PvPEC is to supplement the available resources allotted to PvP development, events, and QoL in the PvP environment with additional player-generated input, organization and effort.
^^ thats the mission statement. As far as who can be in Pvpec check the first link to CriticalKat's thread. Hope this helped. Cheers!
edited again to say : Sorry to threadjack an event thread ;(. I just thought the above info might help clear the air and promote directing the thread back on topic. Then again? I'm a Ditz, ya know? Hope the event is a great success and lots of fun! -
Quote:GG at being consistant at offering nothing positive. Being its that simple then make it happen. A league and ladder are nothing alike so how you figure the rules are the same I am not sure. Opinions are only relevant when you do something with them. Just talking trash about something and not doing anything about it is about as useful as hitting phase when you have no endurance.
Being your rage posting is only to get the ball rolling as you said, dooo ettt. There is interest, its simple, what are you waiting for?
If you think my posts so far are "rage posting"? All I have to say is "Lulz..you ain't played long.Eh,CK?" -
There's always forum pvp for the bored.
-
I'm not mad, ya big goof! Just lighting a fire to get something off the ground before free transfers expire. I don't care if it's pvpec or my Mom. It's time to get this ball rolling. If the ball won't roll and has to be analyzed to death then pvp in this game really is dead and the crashcart won't help.
-
**** you and your "wall of text " comment . Maybe get over yourself and your Pvpec affiliation?
The rules for the newie league need to be the same as the ladder league.Simple.
Noone needs Pvpec for anything. If players take it upon themselves they can do more then Pvpec ever did.
The mistakes made in the past should not be revisited, imho.If Pvpec is on to a new age. Gratz. There is a reason players say "LolPvpec" and it ain't" hot air". -
Please refer to the other thread for my response to ^^^^^^ that.

Quote:Yes we do. We have the rules all worked out, have for months now but got sidetracked between waiting for prize support and our now ex-leader taking a hiatus. I finally got us some pretty good prize support just this week. We need to set up a meeting with me, Peril, you and Sneaky to go over the rules again and I guess get it moving forward.
Thats all well and good but most that pvp now are doing it for the fun(dimished as that might be compared to before).I don't see how prizes matter one way or the other. I also don't see how waiting is a good idea when free transfers are up pretty soon. Rules? By pvpec...?C'mon(we all know how great thats worked out in the past)? No offense but Pvpec as lead by RaidController was horribad.......Hell? I have a sneaky suspicion that buncha bs is why we all got stuck with this sort of pvp in the first place. The rules are the rules accepted by the official ladder. There's your rules. Because the whole point is to make a tball league to prep people for AllStars.Whats so hard about understanding ANY of THAT?If its in the works.. then dooo it...... Gawd. -
Many moons ago there was something called the TpvpL on test server. I might have the name wrong but thats neither here nor there.Anyway the test pvp people formed a temp league in order to get some new blood and expand the official ladder.Basically, a few seasoned people volunteered to be Captains in a league based on open draft. It ended up being pretty big. With the amount of zone pvp that happens on Freedom I betcha this is doable again. The key is getting 5-10 seasoned fella's to volunteer to head up the teams.Basically, establish the Captains to have an idea of the amount of teams. Issue a signup thread for a draft pool.Everyone signs up in that pool...... the seasoned players who are not Captains and also any player(not seasoned) with an interest in participating. Sign up includes global name and a list of their pvp viable AT's.Put a time limit on signups and be specific about there being practice schedules as well as matches.Let players know that they are entering a team for a league and practices are important and mandatory for participation.
The Captains met in vent for the "draft' and established the teams. I think they used s system like NFL draft picks to set teams. Each team was a mix of expert, mediocre and novice. Every Captain could pick up buddies in the draft but they also tried to somewhat balance the teams.Teams got posted in the thread and off it went. Some of the Captains did temp websites for team practice schedules etc. Voice com was a must.I think the league ran for about 6 weeks.... 2 weeks for practices and then a month with the weekly matches.
The thing to remember here is the point of doing something like this is to help players make the transition from zone pvping to arena pvping.I cannot remember who was the main organizer.. I want to say Johnny(something thats on the tip of my tongue).
Anyway? You keep the official ladder seperate and start something like the above to GET MORE people interested in arena. You tell people about it and encourage that guy who says" I love pvp but am not good enough for arena" to join up and see what its all about. There is also the added benefit to scope out new talent for the officials and expand those team rosters.
Yea... it sounds like a pain in the *** to get going but the longterm benefits to the official ladder might be worth hosting something like this again.
I KNOW some of y'all remember this league even if it happenned 2-3 years ago!
Edited to add: Ok...... who volunteers to be a Captain? -
You know guy//gals? You are all being really silly.Hell... schedule back to back hami's and leave be.Ummmmmmm.... whats that word.......... Sec.. I need websters!!!!!... C O O P E R A T I O N!
Hope I spelled it right... -

Quote:Nope, plus my Mini-League events are more about fun and prizes than being a hardcore 1337 PVPer. Everyone has a good time and the nice part about having the Mini format is that its pretty noob friendly so they dont get wailed on and never PVP again. Its a starter event to get them used to the shallow water before sombody holds theyre head under in the deep end. Plus its been the fastest non-exploit way for me and others around to pick up PVP IOs, I get a few every time we have the event.
Lookit... not trying to call you a liar but you haven't run a pvp event ever to my knowledge, nevermind a "mini-league".The wording is great but lets be honest. Just how many people have showed for your "mini " events? I am not knocking you or your endeavor but I think putting the facts plain out there rather than doing a something through rose colored glasses might be a good idea.
Pvp on Guardian has been dead for a longtime and a number of reason's.The least of which is "getting your head held under the water."
I really hope your "event" is a funtime for all.I posted because with the server transfer option free now many people are trying to paint a picture in order to draw new players to their server.I am sorry if I offend but I see this as a shameless plug and nothing more. There was never pvp on Guardian aside from the Wars and that was 2 years ago. Sure we had "Fight Nights"(which were a total joke.... when Raid lead them... oh yea... then we got that ****** xr8ed to be the rep. Talk about FUN times for all!!!/em facepalm. The last fun events were lead by JJ summer before last and even those never had a turnout over 8-10). To act like there is any sort of pvp anything on this server is sort of silly.
I want to reiterate that my post is in no way a personal attack. I just think it's fair to let players know whats the real deal. That's all.
Hope the "event" is a success! -
Quote:Honestly, there is probably no good reason for the yellow team tanks to hit Hammy more than once.
I think they should get there assigned mito, run in at the appointed 20 second threshold, taunt, mark their spot on the map, help with greens and blues, and then go back to their marked spot. The mitos get a little moved about on respawns, but that should put them fairly close.
If they ignored Hammy until the last mito wave was gone, they would have plenty of time to redistibute EOE or pick some up from another raider. More importantly, they would be in excellent position to taunt immediately upon respawn and thereby keep deaths to a minimum if not outright eliminate them.
Clarification on the Virtue "evac-free" strat can be found on the last page of this thread posted by Sandolphan :
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=119649
You're right about the thumbtacks for yellow mito positions,Flea.
Here is a link to another REALLY fun strategy but this type takes some(actually alot of) preparation:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...highlight=hami
There is a link to a video of a 9 minute raid about midway through the page. That's me in the Captain Americ suit with a Cowgirl hat on!!!!
Another thing to consider for evac free raids is having a couple of people bring bio nukes to drop on the main raiding party prior to entering goo on first wave(sort of like a villian raid) or to have the nukes dropped in the goo when hami is at 50%. The nukes can also be used to cover lack of eoe in the event of a shortage.
Thanks Arwynn and Enri for getting an active schedule going again and thanks to all the team leads and participants for rocking the Jello like an apple martini!! Justice is the best! -
I don't deserve to be in that thank you. All I did was bring was bring in some extra eoe(just in case) and be a floating buffer. I was not involved in the planning or leadership in any manner. Take out the Southern up there and add TopDoc and Conflict.
I would like to echo Leandro's thank you to all of the Justice raiders and especially the players taking time to help other servers during the free transfer period. You guys //gals are the best! Maybe that's why Justice hami's are so great and frequently run? Thanks! -
Quote:The problem is that they don't compare well to Blasters either. Most Blasters have a plethora of single target AND AoE damage powers and with just SOs and hasten can have both a seemless AoE or Single Target attack chain and have them as early as level 24. They don't require as much slotting to be effective and there is always an end cost appropriate attack recharged and ready to go.
Most blasters can just target the boss in a spawn and let loose with Aim > Build Up and their AoEs and have only the boss standing after that. A smooth single target chain can then finish the boss quickly all with a minmum of endurance expediture.
In comparison my Fire/Fire Dom didn't have a smooth single target attack chain until after level 38 when I finally got Blaze even when I was pretending I was a psychotic ADHD bunny and hopping in and out of melee.
The AoE is lacking as well since what should be one of the highest damage sets (fire) has 2 AoE damage powers that don't play well together. Breath of Fire's cone will miss targets that are in range of Combustion and vice versa. Being short on AoE damage means that you won't wipe out minions until your second round of AoEs. Outside of domination your AoE controls don't last long enough to cycle your AoEs twice..... until you are mostly fully slotted in the early 40s and by that time IO'd doms are running perma and have solved most of the early level problems.... Problems Blasters don't run into.
I really dislike the ADHD bunny range dance and was happy to be rid of the play style when I got perma. Even after the dom changes it's the main reason that I haven't rolled another Dom and probably won't.
I disagree. The problem is (now and since the games inception)players expecting archetypes to play like other archetypes. If you want a blaster ?Play a blaster. If you want a controller? Play a controller. You want a brute? Play a brute and dont complain that they arent completely like a tanker or a scrapper.Blah, blah blah.....
In my opinion we would be living in a completely different game had COV and it's unique archetypes been released prior to Coh . I seriously doubt all of the "need this or that" for a team would have materialized in the mind of the playerbase. The PROBLEM is players who expect one archetype to perform like another archetype instead of learning and enjoying the nuances of an ARCHETYPE with no expectations other than experience with THAT archetype.
The problem is players having preconceived notions about an archetype(not just dominator's) based on a stereotype coined from the typical hero playstyle .
Disclaimer: There are plenty of hero players who do not embrace that limiting mindset. No offense intended by my post.
Yes,Op. Dom's can solo just fine. -
Quote:Just to clarify;
Plans are great things, implementing good plans in a manner that is enjoyable for you guys is a difficult thing (but worth pursuing).
This is simple(really simple). There is apparantly a huge disparity between what the devs THINK pvp players want and what PVP player's DO want. There is also a big disparity of their idea of levelling the field to hopefully get more PVE player's intersted in PVP.Point in case the current incantation of pvp and EVERY incantation of pvp( yes 5-12 too).Example: the " PVP Wishlist"( many players spent untold hours compiling that thing ).
What actually happenned with it? Things got changed(for the worse imho) in ways players never imagined. Who can be in anyone elses mind?Player's are subservient to their Developer masters so to speak.I don't think anyone realized the lack of experience on the dev font in regards to pvp.I mean THEY are DEVS for gawds sake! (/em sarcasm off). They must know every little thing about the game.... right?I don't think they did or do right now, nor should they be held accountable for things they do not understand simply because being a game Developer basically makes that person a DemiGod to the minions in the world they manipulate. We( the players )assume a Dev knows more than we do and has extensive experience that we lack. Maybe when communicating with the Dev's players should take a step back and treat them as new players to pvp( no offense Dev team). Don't assume they know ANYTHING(again no offense). Try to communicate on a level that assumes no knowledge and illustrate the full mechanic from point 1.(preschool point) instead of point 22( MBA in Cox PVP).I do think they are realizing they messed up or maybe misunderstood what players were trying to communicate. I also think the pvp they rolled with 13 was something they really THOUGHT players would enjoy.
Unfortunately it didn't work out.Theres a quote but it eludes me right now. It goes along the lines of " The problem with effective communication is you think you are understood".Thats not the exact quote but its close enough. -
Quote:... the cheap ones?
There's a couple of questions you need to work out first:
1. How many LotG +7.5% recharge Uniques are you going to throw at this?
2. Do you want to use Purple sets?
The first one is important because it will influence your power choices. For instance you'll want either Hover or Combat Jumping, and maybe either the Invisibility or Leadership pools. You may even consider the Black Scorpion PPP for the defense-based shield.
The second is important because it gives you a time frame for permadom ie., L50 or earlier.
Once you've answered these questions I recommend listing out all the set types that your Plant/Thorn will have access to. Confuse, Sleep, Immob, Melee, PBAoE Melee etc. To a large extent these will dictate your build; from the powers you take to the minimum slots you'll need to put in them. Most recharge bonuses hit at 5 or 6 slots with a handful (a very expensive handful) going at 4 slots.
Mid's can help here, particularly the Sets and Bonuses window and the Recipes window.
One other tip, particularly if you don't intend to use Purple IOs: permadom can often be about which powers are key powers and and which are powers you're just going to use as mules. Decide your key powers up front and don't compromise on the sets you slot into them. I once saw a Fire/Psi permadom who slotted a Stupefy set in Psychic Shockwave (pre-nerf) which is just about the definition of throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Hope that helps.
OMG S H U T U P...
Op you do not have to pick up stupid powers you won't use just to make a perma build.Look at what your goal for the dom is in the end. Pick powers you will utilize and then go to mids and build the Dom based off what YOU USE. You will be able to find it's easier than asumed to build a perma without making silly power picks for recharge. -
Quote:It comes down to either a recharge build or a ranged defense build IMO and the benefits of a recharge build far out-weigh the ranged defense build.
Add in that when you get to a reasonable amount of recharge and Domination can be made permanent and I think that's a winner.
Did you really say that? Seriously? After all the perma is an exploit talk from you. You actually said what I just quoted?
Heavens to Betsy!! Better run and hide! A **** typhoon is on it's way to Australia to smite the purists. -
You arent playing a real dominator. You are playing a watered down blaster and a wannabe troller hybrid.
