Actually, when the system came out I was hoping to see newbies going around playing the game for the first time and to be able to help them out and answer questions. Nobody ever did though. So I'm not sure it's that people gave up. I wonder if it was ever done in the first place.

If helping perfect strangers just isn't your thing, you should seriously consider removing that label. The player who told you to do so was right, in my opinion.
It's not that I'm opposed to helping people. It's that since the introduction of the Helper title I've been wearing it daily and this is literally the first time anyone's asked me anything. I wasn't expecting it. I assumed the person sent the tell to the wrong person or something. I would say I'll be more mindful next time, but at this rate it could be 2014 before I get another random tell.
  4. So I was hanging out in Atlas with my new TW toon. Inbetween sewer runs (that I was leading) so I was busy refilling the team. Broadcasts and tells are flying at me at 100 MPH. Then out of nowhere I get a random tell:

Random: How do I check to see if I'm already in an event? I was on a team that had finished and when I queued again it said I was still in an event.

Wait, who's this person? A friend asking me a question? I check the global and it's nobody I know. So I ignore it and work on filling the team up.

Less than two minutes later I get:

Random: Okay, you might want to remove helper from your title...

Oh... someone was taking my helper title seriously? I remember using Helper when it first was introduced. I started putting it on all my characters. But nobody ever asked me any questions. I never saw any newbies running around with a Help Me title. It was usually level 50s with it (ironically I suppose). On one of my alts I use Help Me just because it's pink. I thought it was just one of those systems that nobody really uses, like the "looking for" selections in the search tool. Or PvP.

So I sent a tell back saying that I didn't think anyone used those titles seriously. But apologized for not really knowing the answer and said it may be under the LFG tab.

Have I been neglectful in my responsibilities as a helper? Should I be answering more newbie questions? Should I be taking my title more seriously? Then again, I feel like this is so rare this may be the only time a stranger asks me a question. Do other servers besides Virtue take the title more seriously?

Well... I guess I must conclude this is a male stripper pack.

Actually, this looks more similar to the cowboy than the other picture does to the girl.
  9. One of the theoretical powersets on the vote we had back in the day (which eventually gave us dual pistols, street justice, willpower, shields, and so on) was Force Field Armor. I could see a set devoted to RES/DEF/+maxHP without any heals or regen that would probably work well. I don't doubt the devs' ability to come up with something new and interesting from that concept as well.

This is technically true but it does not make for good conversation. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but if you want it to have any weight or sway it should at least have substance and purpose. Otherwise you're just waving your arms around for attention and speaking in alphabet soup.

I wanted gunslinger stuff for my girls, which is in the name of the set, yet I didn't get that. Maybe it's arrogant of me to say this, but I feel I had more right to expect coats and hats from a gunslinger set than you did to expect corsets.
I didn't expect corsets. I try not to have many expectations. It leads to threads like this one where people came up with ideas and are upset the devs didn't meet them.

I don't think there's anything wrong with corsets in the pack either. Ideally I would've loved it if girls got all the guy stuff and still got corsets.

And as I said, just a renaming of the pack would've helped. That is, if the name is what leads people to have expectations that aren't met.

Thats under $2, so is in the micro transaction category, meaning you'd pick up more impulse buys.
Plus, thats selling them at about 19 points per piece instead of about 13 points per piece in the 400 point costume sets, so it has to sell less to make the same profit.
I wouldn't be opposed to this but you'd have to ask marketing and the art department about the feasibility of redrafting how they sell costume parts.

    It's the fact we have;
    -Steampunk: Corsets
    -Barbarian: More Corsets
    -Gunslinger: MOAR Corsets
What you and other people see is "the devs are clearing a show interest in women not wearing clothes and just want to give us skimpy corsets all the time!" Or, "the devs are clearly missing the mark and giving us things we don't want or are completely out of theme."

What I see is the devs filling in a barren section of costume options and giving people something they've been asking for for a long time. Three packs gave us corsets, yes. Which puts our selection of corsets up to... what, three? It wouldn't make sense to do all the corsets in one release. They have different styles and themes.

Personally I've been wanting more fur-lined stuff since the bolero came out. Up until recently all I could do was add winter boots. It did wonders for my main RP character's winter costume. Which in case you're wondering about the sluttiness level of, looked like this:

And it works great for a hunter-themed character I've been thinking about.

Renaming the pack would've done wonders for the pack. But I don't think the pieces we got were bad or uncalled for. Even if I would've liked some chaps.
  14. I think the reason they don't make more secondaries is that secondaries really just aren't exciting. If you look at the most popular defense sets they're the ones where people don't have to use them. Ever. Just toggle on your Willpower, Invuln, Shield, or SR powers and go to work. People like primaries that are busy and interesting. People like secondaries they don't have to think about. Creating a new set people won't have to think about isn't very exciting.

You can add that as E if you want. It's still not the solution to the problem. I know I wouldn't be happy if all my costume parts were just "guy things with bows on them." And I'd still not get any skirts, corsets, high heels, dresses, and so on. Unless you just release a whole lot of kilts and are very generous about your definition of "men's clothing." Which actually, is just the same thing as C.

    Yes. Exactly.

We've always been able to make naked characters and prostitutes. If the barbarian pack doesn't require men to run around pantsless then neither does the gunslinger pack do that for women. A costume part can only do what you use it for. If you use it to make a prostitute, it's not the costume part's fault.

It's not the "correct answer." I've already seen people shoot down this exact discussion. This exact topic came up already. To them it's not acceptable that their male characters just flat out get less costume parts. And really I'm not sure it's fair either (even if it's kind of realistic). What B says is that if men get pants, women get the pants too. But women still get skirts too. Men get 1 costume part and women get 2.

I don't think you'd get too far selling "Women get more parts than men from now on." As I said, they'd just anger a different set of people. That's not a solution, that's just rearranging the complaints.
  16. Willpower and I are getting married next week. I'm actually rolling EA for my TW toon, but WP understands. We've already gone to level 50 together lots of times.

Damn, Sam. I want more pants too, but if you skirtblock me I'm going to have to get a knife. I rarely feel like I have anywhere near enough options and selection when trying to create dresses.

People already dislike the lore behind incarnate stuff and needing a reason for everything. And PPPs. And the dumb in-game explanations we got for proliferation rounds and new powersets. What you're saying is that we need even more obtrusive lore.

Also, that you think every new addition to the game should require the added efforts of an entirely different department and that the mission-making people should spend all their time cranking out missions explaining why you have a dog or a cowboy hat instead of making more useful or meaningful missions. Ultimately, it would slow down releases of things like costume packs and powerset releases if they have to wait for missions to complete, and slow down the releases of actual content like new zones, trials, and task forces because those people are busy doing something else.

All so the game can tell you where you found that cigarette.

What's interesting to me is that all the people saying that this is a sexist pack designed by perverts didn't know until now that it was, mostly, designed by a woman.

I'm split on "gender equality." I know how much work it takes to make costume parts. And the only actual options are:

    A) Everyone gets the same costume parts, which means no more skirts/frill/lace or girly stuff.

    B) Everyone gets the same costume parts, and then women get girly stuff, meaning men just get less costume parts period.

    C) Everyone gets the same costume parts including girly stuff, so men get corsets and high heels that are a huge waste of developer time for incredibly narrow appeal.

    D) Everyone gets close to the same stuff, but sometimes women just get girly stuff instead.

Logically, none of those options will please people. Someone will always be displeased. Someone will always feel cheated. So I don't have a problem with this pack as-is. I like the girly stuff (and I'm a girl myself). Yes I'd like some chaps to go with them, but I'm not going to outright call this pack sexist. We've had some of both packs -- heck even the OP points it out.

I can even see why they have a fascination with corsets as people pointed out. It's because up until now we didn't have any. So they're adding a bunch because it's an as of yet untapped area. It's possible you don't like corsets, but there are people out there who have been wanting corsets for years and finally get some options.

I can't even suggest how the devs could do "better" in the future. There's nothing "better" to strive for. All they can do is shift their current goal and disappoint a different subset of people. Sure, they could start giving women pants all the time, but enough rounds of that and I'd personally make a "Where Are My Frikkin Skirts At" thread.

Also, the barbarian pack encourages men to run around nearly naked and I've already seen someone playing a shirtless cowboy stripper in-game. Not sure what bearing that has on anything but it's worth mentioning.

Really this is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. Tying up additional dev time and resources to create specific in-game lore reasons why we can wear corsets is bound to just annoy literally everyone except for you.

However, 3D artists are limited to a 2-color system and will, from time to time, need a tint to simulate a third color. I don't foresee that being an issue on these helmets (because they're relatively straightforward chrome), but it's a useful tool and not something they should simply throw away.
There are occasionally things that have to be pre-tinted. The steampunk gloves for girls come to mind. I know that skin counts as a color, so in order to have a fingerless glove with two colors, one has to be pre-determined (in this case, black).

But sometimes you guys pre-tint things that make no sense and have no need to be tinted. Like the new gunslinger boots for men. There are only two colors visible: the boot, and the sole. And you guys decided to pre-tint the boots for no apparent reason. You can't make them white as a result. The added color makes them come out gray.

Additionally, on the corset for women, you decided to pre-tint the stripes and let us color the strings. That means the stripes have to be two different shades of the same color. No pure black to hide stripes; no black/white. Just black/gray or white/gray. Or red/maroon. Why that decision had to be made I don't know. Why not pre-tint the strings black or white, and let us color the actual corset? The strings will rarely be visible by comparison. Or really, why not give an alternate version if you really think coloring the strings is that important?

(Also on that topic, I want the gunslinger cape apron to have a no stripe option )

I can see why you might want to pre-tint stuff very rarely, but if you do you should really look into adding a second "not tinted" option as Sam said.
