  1. @Fiery-Enforcer: I'd read 80%, but I have no practical experience so maybe I'm wrong? I was just going off mids' numbers, but I realize I probably didn't take into account Hasten downtime.

    @Gilia: I'm not super-attached to every single power, so if you have suggestions then by all means I'm open to them .

    @Granite Agent: Thanks a lot for the link, it's definitely given me some ideas. I like having a build to look at with some feedback on it already, it lets me incorporate ideas into my own build and theme.

    I have to say I love these boards. People have always been really helpful and I get plenty of constructive feedback no matter what the question!
  2. I've just started a Mind/Fire Dom and I'm having a blast with him, probably going to be my next 50. Anyways, I'm not too keen with set bonuses and I'm trying to figure out how to get some decent recharge as early as possible. I've heard of people hitting perma-dom status at 40ish so I was shooting for that. I think I've gotten pretty close, but I wouldn't mind some critique on things I could do to get some more recharge in (if possible). Also, any build advice would be welcome, this is my first dom so I'm very open to suggestion. Thanks!

  3. Forgive my ignorance (and thread necromancy!), but how exactly do you lock your level? I've been gone for a while, I know about the leveling pact but I didn't know you could stop getting exp!
  4. From what I've heard, the ranged Bane attacks (minus Poisonous Ray, which is awesome) are pretty lacking compared to the melee attacks. If you want a more melee focused build, here's the one I'm using and I LOVE it! You'll be a killing machine while also bringing 20% defense, 30% damage, and 15% to hit buff to everyone on your team just for being around you.

    You're softcapped with suppressed cloak. No travel power, but I've found mental training + hurdle + ninja run to be more than fast enough for getting around, with an occasional jet pack if you want to do some serious vertical climbing. Taking both Bane and Wolf armor is helpful for stacking mez resist, and you'll probably want a knockback protection in each of them. I took Aid other/self at 41 and 44 because I like having a heal for when something sneaks by the softcapped defenses, but you can just as easily take web envelope/shatter armor and move some slots around out of health and tactical training: leadership to fill them out. I personally didn't feel the need for them as I have a decent attack chain without shatter and I've never really felt the need for an immobilize on this guy, but they're definitely useful skills. Or you could drop them both and work a travel power in the build if you really want to, it's pretty easy to customize to your liking!

    Hey all, was thinking of dusting off my controller that I haven't played in forever. I haven't touched him since pre-ED so I'm more or less starting from scratch with knowledge on the AT . I'm trying to maximize recharge without going into purples or PvP sets, so I'd appreciate any help and advice mainly focused on slotting (ignore the slot placement levels, I'll tweak them when I settle on a final build).   9. I recently made a tankermind build and received some excellent feedback from these forums that really helped me bring it up to snuff for AV soloing. I decided to switch gears a bit for my second slot and go for a more pet-centered build where I hang out in the background buffing and healing my pets, which will also be more group friendly. This is also a lite-concept build, so the attack is going to stay in and heck, it gives a nice recharge set bonus too!

    While I think I might be able to solo AVs with my Bruiser tanking (this build gives him about 50% smash/lethal resist, 39% positional defense, two heals, and a to-hit debuff from weaken that should effectively softcap him), I'm focused more on farming since my tankermind build is more than adequate in the AV department. I think this might also be a decent PvP build, so while it's not my main focus I wouldn't mind any suggestions about PvP. Any and all constructive feedback is appreciated, thanks!

    He probably took leaping to get in two sets of Zephyr. That provides a lot of ranged and AOE defense. Hasten isn't exactly required with poison, but I like having it.

    Maneuvers stacks with your Enforcers to provide even more defense. I have it on mine too. It's not a lot, but once you have a good base, even that small amount can make a difference. With defense sets being fairly popular it can help out those don't have have it softcapped with IOs, and multiple manuevers can really help the team.

    All that defense means he hardly gets hit, so if he can keep them attacking him it's protecting his pets. The rare hit that does get through will be caught in bodyguard. Personally I'd use a different set to make a tankermind, but I'm sure it works well for him.

    As a side note, I normally keep my pets in bodyguard and use my debuffs to start the battle when solo or small groups. Large groups I normally keep 2-3 in defensive mode.
    He pretty much got it right. I had to squeeze every last bit of defense out of my powers in order to softcap myself, I had about 0 slots left over. Like I said, this is my tankermind build and its been very effective at soloing AVs even without aid self or greens due to the high amount of defense and base resists I have through BG. I'll post my more pet-centered build up here shortly for feedback which will probably be slightly more traditional in both slotting and power choices (aid self, pet tanks, slotted for recharge, etc). I also think it will be better for AoE farming, so the build I have posted now will be my single target build and my alternate build will be for farming .

    I'm not sure what route you want to go with your MM, but hopefully that will help you a bit. For my second build, I'm currently planning out a concept/pet-centric build as opposed to a tankermind. If you want to go that route, you can get your pets up to 39% positional defense (which should make them effectively capped if you tag your foe with weaken) and give your bruiser ~50% resists to smash/lethal and 20% to all other types (besides psionics).

    I'll post the build in a day or two for feedback once I get it ironed out, but hopefully this'll give you an idea of what you can do with your MM. Good luck!

    Bane AV Killer?

    Yeah, it was stupidly easy to softcap my Bane's defense if I used CJ and SJ. Even without using that "trick" it wasn't too difficult and still left me plenty of room to slot for things besides defense. I realize it's not optimal for taking down AVs, but I just wanted to know if it had been done.

    I think -40% Resists (Surveillance + Achilles Proc) combined with double-stacked Assault should be more than enough to take down an AV. Heck, I was able to put a good dent in Luminary's health on my 35 Bane without any IO sets. My main issue obviously was survivability, as you're nowhere near the softcap at 35 unless you're chugging purples .

    I'm more interested in what kind of attack chain I should use to maximize DPS, as the long activation times are kind of throwing me off.

    Bane AV Killer?

    I was looking around these boards and was kind of surprised to not see anything on Bane AV killers. A few people bring it up for NWs, but the most common complaint I see is that they have a lot of trouble surviving the hits that make it through due to low resists and low HP.     Capped defenses, token resists, a 20% HP buff, aid self, and +50% damage, all with a recovery rate above 2 end/sec and a 23 HP/sec regen rate. I was considering a build with tough/weave instead of aid self, but I felt the heal would be more useful overall than the extra resists to smashing and lethal damage only. Any feedback is appreciated!
  14. Thanks for all the great feedback. This was originally a concept build, but I was also able to softcap it and get a pretty decent amount of recharge/recovery with it. I'm loving my SoA, both my Bane build and Huntsman build are a lot of fun. I've found my Bane is better for soloing Relentless missions (if only for the boss at the end, the single-target damage can be a bit lacking for Huntsman) while my Huntsman is an absolute monster on teams with all of the AoEs. It'll only get better with more group buffs too, I can't wait to level him up!

    The only thing I'm not liking is that I have to slot out two builds simultaneously while I level since I use both of them depending on my mood or if I'm teaming or not. It's getting expensive .

    I have a couple of questions about this that I want to make sure of:

    1. I'm a few levels off from Surveillance so I'm not sure exactly how it works. Can I use it on a mob from hide before I wack it, or will it cause aggro? If it doesn't cause aggro, will the damage proc cause me to come out of hide?

    2. Are the mids numbers on suppressed cloaking correct? It says 5.3% suppressed with the way I have it slotted, but I know it has problems sometimes with conditional powers so I want to make sure my numbers are all adding up.

Taking everyone's feedback into account and after a few of my own experiences soloing AVs in some AE test missions, I swapped some slots around and came up with a build I'm extremely happy with. I noticed an AVs health dropped considerably faster when Noxious Gas was up, so you're all definitely right about -res being key. I managed to kill Dominatrix with my build posted earlier, but it was a LONG (20+ minute) fight.

    So after a lot of tweaking, I present my final build. Capped Ranged and AoE defense, Achilles proc in the enforcers, and even Touch of Lady Gray in my Envenom. I couldn't stay softcapped if I lost any more defense from my Enforcers, so it either had to go there or nowhere at all. With a 20% chance to proc every 8 seconds, I think it'll help out a bit with all the -res factored in.

    Again, a huge thanks to everyone that helped in this thread, you all gave me some great advice and feedback and I think almost everything suggested is reflected in this build in some manner.

  19. Thanks a lot guys, this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for . At least I'm on the right track, and you gave me some things to think about. It's definitely worth considering softcapping, so these are some great ideas.

    While I'd lose some damage from Assault, I think the poison debuffs would more than make up for it. If I ditch Acro instead of my Taunt like griz suggested and follow your ideas, I think I could make it work out pretty well. Maybe if I throw an Achilles into my Enforcers and find another slot or two for Gangwar I can make up for the lost damage from Assault through the res debuff and the lost defense from the edict set bonus. Regardless, you've given me some great ideas to fool around with so thanks!

  21. I've finally decided to IO out my Thugs/Poison with a focus on being an AV killer. While I can do that pretty easily now with a shivan or some inspirations, I want to try for a "pure" kill with nothing besides my own powers.

    That said, I'm not sure exactly how to go about optimizing this guy for the task. I don't want to use purples/PvP IOs, so it seems like the positional defense cap is well out of reach. What should I slot for? And is it possible to have the Bruiser tank AVs, or is tankerminding pretty much the only choice for it? I'd prefer to let my bruiser tank, but I don't mind holding my own if I have to. I'll post the build I've been working with so far, I know it has a long way to go so any feedback would be appreciated.

  22. Awesome, that was some great info. I think I'll swap out Owts for CP and put an extra slot for recharge in it. I think I'll keep this as my final build if I can get most AVs down with it, and if it really comes down to it I'll drop a shivan or something (even though that's not a "pure" AV kill).   23. Thanks for the feedback, I didn't know Membranes did that. I definitely want to solo AVs, but mostly I want a character that can run into a large group and knock mobs silly so I'm glad I got that part covered. I might swap out One With the Shield for either Grant Cover or Conserve Power, depending on how my END bar looks when all is said and done. OWTS seemed like a good cross between an endurance booster and an oh s*** button when something gets a lucky hit or two in. How big is the crash when it wears off? If it's only like 15 or 25 end it might be worth it, but if it's going to eat my whole bar when I'm done it'll be pretty useless.

    I didn't think too much about damage for AVs, I'm coming from a thugs/poison MM as my only other 50 so this is a bit of a change of gears to say the least. How would I go about improving my single target damage if I wanted to go down that path? Thanks again.
