Quote:While I understand what you are getting it, this really does not hold true for Death Shroud. I'll let a number cruncher go into the specifics, but the endurance cost of Death Shroud becomes very efficient at just two targets. Outside of GM/AV fights or stealthing, there is no reason to turn Death Shroud off. Running increases your overall endurance efficiency. When it comes to aoes you don't get enough effect per endurance point unless you use it on a certain amount of targets, generally if I am looking at less than 4 targets I would probably turn them off however there are sometimes reasons to keep them on. With cone attacks given the option I generally would not use them unless I feel I would hit atleast 2 targets. Its about trying to get the same effect per endpoint as you would with a single target attack. It generally matters most to me from the lower levels and matters less in the higher ones due to gaining slots.
In the case of Rikti Drones, you are better off using a an AoE on a single drone than attempting to hit it with a single target attack. Your probability of missing kills any endurance efficiency from single target attacks. In other words, 1 Whirling Sword is cheaper than two or three Hacks. Better yet, just stand there an let Death Shroud finish them off. -
Quote:Yes they do. Headman blasters don't shoot very fast and often switch to melee if you engage them in melee. Drones have high perception and wicked accuracy but are rather fragile. They have high defense to melee and ranged attacks, but not AoEs, hence Death Shroud and Whirling Sword make very short work of drones. Both are susceptable to CoF and OG.Don't headman blasters and drones use energy attacks? I could be wrong. i just assumed.
Lesson here; Dark Armor follows Art of War rules. -

I'm glad you liked the guide, but I am curious as to which part led you to believe Dark Armor would struggle against Rikti. Perhaps I need to improve/clarify a section, come next update.
I intended to point out Dark Armor's vulnerability to Energy damage so a player could chose how to compensate. If it suggests a player can't compensate, then I need to tweak some things.
Now Rularuu Watchers, Observers, and Overseers will tear you up...but that's most everyone. -
Basically, last Villain 200 Merit Milk Run I ran it in one day which got to be a bit much. So this time I'm breaking it up into two days. The catch is that it's only 191 Merits...close enough for government work.

Quote:OH NO YOU CAN'T. Not now. Not after having to hear you rain on my parade for monthsI could see myself actually considering Elec Armor with a power like that.
This post is not intended to be taken seriously by anyone other than Sarrate
Actually, I was already looking forward to Electric Armor but this news is all kinds of awesome. Hope the change makes it to live. -
Quote:actually I thought it was only in the low 20's like 24%...and I would say that energy is the achillies heel for dark armor unless you io them out to get lots of positional defense like des suggested
I think Jebe was referring to Dark Armor's other resistances, since Joy Division claimed all Dark Armor resistances were low. For the sake of clarity, using only Dark Armor toggles, resistance values are as follows:- 34-35% Smashing
34-35% Lethal
34-35% Fire
34-35% Cold
46-47% Neg. Energy
57-58% Psi
23-24% Energy
As Zetargos pointed out, with out IOs, Energy Damage is Dark Armor's Achilles Heel. Dark Armor's other mitigation options can alleviate that, but the most effective way to deal with it is to add positional defense; mainly because it simultaneously improves all of Dark Armor's survivability. - 34-35% Smashing

Quote:Mainly I stayed out of this dicussion because you've pretty covered my position. I don't think I ever seen you state it so clearly and completely before now, which is saying a lot considering how thorough your post typically are. You've pretty much summed up my playstyle. Now that's a great post.
Here's how I team:
Team goes from spawn to spawn. Everyone sticks pretty tightly together. Spawns are wiped out in seconds. Team moves on. I'll usually stay with this team.
Team has a tank. Tank wants to herd. I'll be on the next floor or at the other end of the map.
Team has an excess of control and debuffs. Team is completely safe at all times and destroying spawns at what they consider to be a comfortable clip. I'll be on to the next spawn as soon as the bosses are dealt with.
Team has a bunch of new players, or poor builds or on a difficulty too high for the team's ability to handle it. I'm with the team doing everything I can to keep them alive.
Yes, there is a time to stay with the team. There is a time to run off and have fun. More often than not, because this is not a difficult game with properly slotted characters of some skill level, the scrapper should be off killing whatever but close enough to get back to the team should the need arise.
Because of the people *I* generally run with (that being badgers who tend to know the game well and they know I'm a chaos bringer) I no longer have to think about it. Team's good? I'm free to kill. Things getting rough? I'm back with the team to pull them out of it or fall with them.
The scrapper that completely ignores his team is a bad scrapper. The player that constantly gripes at scrappers for doing what scrappers do best is a bad player. -
Quote:I am curious as to which guide you read.I really like the mez protection offered by dark armor, but after reading a very thorough guide on it, I realized that it is weak against energy blasts (so i'm assuming there will be issues against rikti later on).
Quote:Is there a way to counter this weakness? Do I have to take tough/weave or maneuvers to make up for it? -
Quote:Provided there is substantial distance between us, I don't mind the confusion.Sorry to ruin your fun, Des. When I wrote the earlier post, I had to fight the inclination to call you a she again. Your characters seem to confuse me on some level.
My characters, avatars, and banners are for my viewing pleasure so they are typically items I enjoy looking at. I used to clarify the gender but it wasn't worth the effort.
No need to apologize about the signature. If you bugged you, it would have only been a matter of time before someone went ballistic about it. Poor judgement on my part perhaps as I rushed to put one together while I learn the new forums. It was intended as temporary anyways, until I come up with something better. -
Unless you have the ability to purchase expensive IOs ahead of time (which is unlikely if you're new), I strongly recommend you take Stamina at level 20. You can still select Cloak of Darkness at level 22 and achieve the same aims for all TF except the first 3 (Positron, Synapse, and Cavern Trial). Even if you took CoD at level 20 you'd only gain one TF (Synapse). Combining CoD with a Stealth Proc is strongly recommended, typically you want to place one in Sprint (preferably an alternate Sprint if you have one, depending on which version of the game you purchased you may not, yet.)
At your earliest convenience I recommend you respec. out of Slash and replace it with Slice. Slash is a rather lack luster attack that most Broadsword scrappers skip. Slice is not much better against single targets but is both easy and effective against multiple targets.
Broadsword/Dark Armor is a tough build to start out with. Both Broadsword and Dark Armor are infamous for their endurance costs. Combining the two can be a challenge. Properly IO'd these concerns can be dramatically minimized but that's difficult to achieve quickly as a new player. If you can acquire IOs you'll want to focus on getting these three, ranked in order of importance: Theft of the Essense: +end PROC (place in Dark Regeneration), Miracle: +recovery(place in Health), Numina's:+recover/+regeneration(place in Health).
In my sig you'll find a DM/DA guide. Some find the sections written Dark Armor to be very helpful on any Dark Armor build. I would suggest reading for detailed information on how to manage Dark Armor endurance costs.
While BS/DA is a tough build to start with, the end results are very rewarding. Once the build comes together it both powerful and wicked fun. -
Quote:It's only optional if you want to take Stamina. If you want to actually get a 4th power pool that isn't Fitness, then Dark Consumption is friggin' awesome. My DM/Regen build has to be manhandled pretty significantly to get it to work with any other primary simply because Dark Consumption is such a powerful end tool that it allows me to ignore pretty much everything else.
I would concede Dark Consumption would be more useful on a non-stamina build but I'd think for Regen or WP it would remain rather optional. Granted, if you wish to ignore endurance management via IOs to focus on other areas, DC would be a good alternative. -
Scrappers inherent hasn't been updated in a REALLY long time. Unfortunately, it's tied to the powers, not the AT.
-
Truth is, once you get into IO builds, Dark Consumption becomes rather optional. In most cases it hard to justify keeping it.

Quote:Forget about the URL up load.OK, this sig thing is driving me nuts! I go to my profile and hit "edit signature" I try and upload image and nothing happens, I try to link it to a URL and it says "invalid URL" ...it seems many of you are not even using that feature, but somehow embedding the link (centered and all) in your written portion of the signature. Can someone explain this abit more clearly...maybe even show the exact commands?
Thanks!

Going to have to get someone to make me one...I simply don't have the know how or the patience to learn.

At first I though I just read the shortest guide evah...then I realized your link goes to the last page/post of your guide. Might consider changing it to the first...just saying.
