BS/DA Help please
At level 15 I have Hack, Slash and Parry as my attacks. Slash and Parry do not seem to do much damage but I do have 3 attacks!
Is there a common attack chain for Broad Sword? |
Ultimately, you're waiting to get Disembowel, a very respectable attack, and Headsplitter, the best attack in the set (and frankly, one of the best attacks available to scrappers).
Broadsword attack chains are highly dependent on how much recharge you have, and how much defense you need from Parry. With a LOT of recharge and no need at all for Parry, you can run a chain like (Hack, Headsplitter, Hack, Disembowel) for strong damage. With less recharge, you could run something like (Headsplitter, Hack, Disembowel, Parry), or maybe (Headsplitter, Hack, Parry, Disembowel, Hack, Parry). These chains don't do as much damage, but provide you with significant defense to melee and lethal attacks.
Also don't forget that you can slot Achilles Heel procs in most Broadsword attacks.
Ultimately, Broadsword has to work a lot harder to do good sustained ST damage than other sets, but it makes up for this with very strong burst damage, solid mitigation through knockup and knockdown, and good AoE potential.
Broad Sword/Dark is a good combo but not an easy one for a beginner. It is pretty endurance heavy and requires the ability to forsee when you need to use Dark Regeneration. I would focus on getting your endurance under control before anything else.

Dark/Shield Build Thread
Unless you have the ability to purchase expensive IOs ahead of time (which is unlikely if you're new), I strongly recommend you take Stamina at level 20. You can still select Cloak of Darkness at level 22 and achieve the same aims for all TF except the first 3 (Positron, Synapse, and Cavern Trial). Even if you took CoD at level 20 you'd only gain one TF (Synapse). Combining CoD with a Stealth Proc is strongly recommended, typically you want to place one in Sprint (preferably an alternate Sprint if you have one, depending on which version of the game you purchased you may not, yet.)
At your earliest convenience I recommend you respec. out of Slash and replace it with Slice. Slash is a rather lack luster attack that most Broadsword scrappers skip. Slice is not much better against single targets but is both easy and effective against multiple targets.
Broadsword/Dark Armor is a tough build to start out with. Both Broadsword and Dark Armor are infamous for their endurance costs. Combining the two can be a challenge. Properly IO'd these concerns can be dramatically minimized but that's difficult to achieve quickly as a new player. If you can acquire IOs you'll want to focus on getting these three, ranked in order of importance: Theft of the Essense: +end PROC (place in Dark Regeneration), Miracle: +recovery(place in Health), Numina's:+recover/+regeneration(place in Health).
In my sig you'll find a DM/DA guide. Some find the sections written Dark Armor to be very helpful on any Dark Armor build. I would suggest reading for detailed information on how to manage Dark Armor endurance costs.
While BS/DA is a tough build to start with, the end results are very rewarding. Once the build comes together it both powerful and wicked fun.
On a side note, if you are really into being able to sealth TP, you could get super speed at 14 and put a stealth IO in sprint and it works like stacking COD with the stealth IO. Just no def. Just a thought.

Thank you for the replies!
Theft of Essence! What a great idea for Dark Regen! I have had some luck in the markets and could possibly pick up a unique or two. Not sure of the availability of the low level uniques, they are probably a bit rare on the market. I will probably have to work on getting merits to purchase a couple.
I am feeling much more confident about my build. I think I will take hasten/superspeed, and hunt for a lvl15 stealth proc, I should be able to use the ss + stealth to do any 'solo-able' parts of a TF. I thought I would take recall friend at lvl24, as I can not think of a good way to sub this in pre-level 15, and not take the teleport movement power (which I am not such a fan of). Any ideas?? Can I swap Parry (8) for Recall Friend (24) or will I hate myself on pre-lvl24 TFs?
I really appreciate the posts, thanks for replying! If you want to have a look at my build, slotted only up to level 20. I put in 3 nice uniques that are a bit critical (Theft of Essence, Miracle, and Celerity).

I am going to have a look at your guide Desmodos, thanks for pointing it out.
Your build is going to hurt your progression through levels because you are forceing that stealth tper role into it too soon. Your aoe abilities are lacking at lvl 32 because you don't have death shroud or whirling sword. You won't have immobolize protection until lvl 30 because you didn't take combat jumping and pushed cloak of darkness off until lvl 30. I would advise differently there. I came up with a build that would push off your tp stealthing roll but eventually would get to it...personally I think build effectivness then add the little things I like with the build. Eventually I would respec (around lvl 32) and drop slice all together. You won't miss that attack much at all later on around lvl 50. This would probably allow you to squeeze in recall friend a bit earlier.
I only put in common IO's for this build with the other ios ones that I feel are necessary for you. Personally I would change a lot around slotting wise if I wanted a more defensive base build but if you can't afford the high end builds slotting for recharge and end is just as good.

Hi I have recently made a Broad Sword / Dark Armor scrapper. I am pretty new to the game and not familiar with either powerset. I took Slash, but that attack seems a bit weak. I did NOT take Slice, but after a closer look it appears to be a nice multiple foe attack. I took Parry as I felt I needed another attack, and the def bonus looks impressive, but damage is not great.
I had wanted to use recall friend combined with stealth for use in TFs and missions, but CoD is lvl20, which means no stamina at 20. Maybe I can deal with this if I can use merits to pick up a Miracle proc for heath, or perhaps take stamina, and use the merits for a stealth proc? Teleport or Sprint maybe?
At level 15 I have Hack, Slash and Parry as my attacks. Slash and Parry do not seem to do much damage but I do have 3 attacks!
Is there a common attack chain for Broad Sword?
