As i understand it, one character can basicly get all the badges hero and villian side, as long as you switch alignment and what not.
I already have a hunch about this, but the question, if not already guessed, is how does this affect accolades that permanently boost stats such as task force commander badge and what not.
If i get accolades on one side, then do it on the other, will only one set from one side boost my stats or will both do it. -
The most fun team i've ever been on was in the old days (been playing since 04) and it was an all energy blaster team (except me). There was so much KB and chaos gong on that it was a blast. Nothing could stay on its feet. But that was when peeps would put specific teams like that together just for the fun of it. Oh, and i was the only controller, I was a stormy, so more KB fun!!!

Yeah, honestly, i'd be happy with at least 50/50 division of Toxic/ (smash,lethal..whatever). It would be nice, as long as toxic is the main damage and focus. They could even put a few purely toxic attacks in there mixed a with a few of the toxic/ (smash, lethal) attacks.
-
Well, if a toxic set wouldn't be created based upon the fact that most people don't have good def/res against it for pvp, then why did the devs from the get go ever make toxic so scarce?
Kind of shot themselves in the foot on that one if you asked me. Pretty much closed off an entire damage type.
They did make it scarce in the def/res of AT's before pvp had even started or was around in CoH, so I can't see it being a pvp reason back then, maybe now, but like someone mentioned, there are ways to work around it. Maybe they just couldn't think of a good way to give us a toxic set to begin with and just gave up on it..... -
Yeah, figured it was much like the spines.
I don't know how they'd do a straight toxic set, but I think it could be done. -
Yeah, but I'd like a set who's main focus is toxic. There powers are mainly lethal with Toxic DoT right? Don't know for sure, don't have a lvl 50 villian yet. Spines has Toxic DoT on its attacks, but that doesn't really count either.
-
We need a toxic damage set..... seriously, we have a damage set for every damage type in the game (fire, ice, dark, smash etc...). Yet toxic damage is in the game......but a set does not exist that does mainly toxic damage, that would be a nice change over another smash/lethal set. Pwease make one.... pweaty pweaseeeeee...
-
It wouldn't be mainly just for melee toons, I just mention them because I play them more and it seems that they have more smash/lethal than other AT's. It could be applied to all ATs.
And yes, I understand the mechanics of doing this might be impossible, but then, I wont ever know if I don't ask and no one tells me. -
Ok, quick and to the point. I love playing melee toons, but get kind of tired of half my choices being smash/ lethal. I'd love to see a purely toxic damage set one day, but probably won't happen (spines doesn't count, so hush you's). So..... why not IO's that allow you to change your damage type. It doesn't have to be a complete 100% change.
Lets say I have a broadsword scrap, slot a Fire Type damage IO,obviously unique....or maybe not, and bam, I now do 75% lethal and 25% fire damage (Could have went 50/50, but being generous). And this isn't damage after the fact, its calculated as part of your up front damage, unless of course your power does DoT. I'd love this...and honestly, who wouldn't. So obviously an Energy IO would change 25% of your damage to energy damage, and so on and so forth (a toxic one would be sweet). It would give us more variety, and help some sets that have to fight against the 90% smash/lethal resistance we come up against in game (yest a bit exaggerated, but you get the point)and if you don't want anything to do with....well guess what.....you don't have to use it.... wow, ain't that amazing.
But of course the ability to do this in game and what not, who knows how difficult that would be, but hey, not my job, I just provide awesome Ideas.
Oh, and in addition to this, unique IO's for immobilization protection would be nice too, we got knockback and what not, throw me a bone and make an immob one so i can finally skip combat jumping for once.
Oh yeah, and another one, almost forgot.... a global bank type system. Basicly my lvl 50 goes to the bank, can drop influence or salvage into it, and another toon, on my one account, under the same global, can take it out or deposit there own stuff. Would make moving things between my toons soooo much easier when friends aren't around. -
Sorry bout that, didn't mean to say "capped", just meant thats where I decided to stop.
-
I to would say to go with defense on a tank, and in all honesty, i'm only familiar with melee defense, as mine is capped at about 36%, I haven't tried doing the s/l defense, as it took long enough to get my toon where it is now. I could have went higher, but I would have begun to gimp my attacks more, so I stopped there and my fire tank is VERY well rounded.
One thing I remember from playing this game so long is someone mentioning a sort of "trinity", encompassing the most important aspects of any melee oriented toon.
Resistance, defense, and heal/regen. Being obscenely strong in any one is good, but by being good in all three, your more likely to survive, and luckily, fire tanks have a good heal and once you get tough, you have good resistance, so boosting your defense will greatly boost your toon, in my opinion, rounding him out.
But hey, to each his own. Play style has a lot to do with it too. I just prefer to be able to more versatile. Not every toon has a -def component, and if they do, I still have my resistance and heal to fall back on. -
I've played fire tanker since 04 myself, as a matter a fact, it was the first toon I ever made and I still love to play him. I'll give some tips, some people might agree and disagree, but take what you want from it.
First off, I would recommend not planning out your build and trying to lvl into that planned build. Pick powers as you need them and at the level you need them. Basicly, you can take a bunch of powers that really help you out in early lvl's, then respec out of them later. I'm not saying don't plan a build out at all, but just lvl to high levels first, then respec into your planned build.
Fire tanks have a few too many holes you need to fill, and trying to take the powers you need to fill them pre 30 will leave you rather weak, at least in my opinion. However, now a days, with IO's, if your lucky enough to get the right ones early, you can use them to fill some holes right off the bat (such as KB prot and some endurance IO's). Basicly, as such for my build, I have tough, weave, and also acrobatics (yes, no kb io's), and of course fitness, because fire is end heavy. If you try to take a lot of these pre 30, then you might find your attack chain lacking and that you have some heavy endurance problems.
As I was building my fire tank, I took the powers I needed at the levels I needed them to survive, then respec'd at the appropriate respec TF's for my level.
Fire tanks won't really come into there own until their later levels, once you have most the powers you need and can start slotting good IO's. A good fire tank will take time to build, its taken a while for me to get mine to where he is, and even then, i'm still finding new ways to tweak him. Right now my tank has 36% defense to melee, bout 17% defense to ranged and AoE, pretty much no end issues, and 70 res to smash/lethal and decent res for the rest (fire maxed of course).
Remember, with fire tanks also, offense is your best defense, and fire tanks can be some offensive monsters. -
Another thing too, if no one mentioned it, when you do get PA to perma, upon recast, the PA currently out will disappear, so for about a second there is no PA at all. Sooooo, from experience, if your PA are taking a considerable amount of agro, then until the new PA hits the enemy, then all agro is focused back on you.

The only 50's I have that I would do the ITF with are my Fire/Fire/Pyre tank and Ill/rad troller. Granted, my fire tank has millions in IO's on him, but people forget that high damage output can be a form of damage mitigation as well. Can't hit you if there dead.
I have 35% defense to melee, and that keeps me a float for plenty of time, after several seconds my defense finally begins to scale down, but by then, I've already launched my first 3 AoE attacks, and with build up/fiery embrace, they go down quick. I can roll so fast through stuff with my fire tanker, IO's almost make me feel like its Issue 2 again. -
I've played a fire/fire tank since Issue 2 and can say, you need IO's. In my opinion any way. Yes fire/fire tanks are squishy, but ....key word being but...., it you build it right, you can be amazingly awesome.
My tank has bout 72% resist to S/L, about 37% defense to melee, 15-20% ranged/aoe, can't exactly remember right off my head, and has no end issues what so ever, recharging like 3.3 end a second or something like that, with the performance shifter chance for end firing off every once in a while on top of that.
My toon is AoE oriented too, so he does awesome group damage.
The thing is, you just need to stick with him, and build him up. I hate to say it but SO's don't really cut it anymore, at least not with fire tanks and not if you want to be effective -
I would say psionic mastery, simply because I always find the thing that hurts me most on my ill/rad is getting mezzed, getting mezzed makes your debuffs drop. I have about 80 something percent in global recharge, so I pretty much have perma PA, Hasten, and AM. Indomitable Will is very nearly perma as well, think there is a few seconds down time, can't remember. But no more than like 5-8. So my toon has a lot of mez protection most the time.
-
Ummmm, I always thought it was a bit more common than I guess others here thought. I've solo'd plenty of AV's with my controller, obviously some are much easier than others, but then, its much easier to do it with a controller, or at least I think so. If you can do it with another AT, thats great, at least you know how to use your toon.

A couple more hints....
I just recently leveled from 1-28 in about a week, with no PL's or mission farming and such. These are the methods i've developed over a few years of playing COH.
Getting a sewer team in atlas.
Get out of the hollows as soon as possible, get contacts in other places as quickly as you can. Hollows is easier to navigate now with temp powers, but Hollows still takes up way to much time for me, I find the quicker I get out of Hollows, the easier things go.
If you can stealth, then do it. Every mission you can stealth, then stealth it. Go straight to the end and complete. You will get more xp in less time from mission complete bonus and sometimes you will get multiple of these missions for quick xp.
Do scanner missions as soon as you can. Do scanner missions that require you to kill "leader", or find object(you usually have to clear room even when you get object).
Stealth most of these missions, go straight to the objective, and complete mish, get anothe similar scanner mish, then do it again, stealth, complete. If you do this, you can get xp quick.
Certain story arc's give you massive xp, expecially since all missions generally stay in that zone.
Faultline story arcs, are great, get a contact there as soon as possible, you will do awesome story arcs, fight numerous AV's, and get awesome xp. Plus, there are usually always people looking for players to help them defeat the many AV's you fight, good xp.
Croatoa, awesome story arcs again for amazing xp. Nough said.
Like someone else mentioned, DO TASK FORCES, they are great xp and will help you level fast, plus the badges go towards an accolade. -
Global: @Demondante
Gender: M
Age: 25
Location: Army, so right now Hawaii
Height: 5' 11"
SG Affiliation: The Inquisitors
Most recognizable toon: Hmmm..maybe DEMONDANTE or WOLF OF FENRIS. Being playing since NOV of 2004.
Being in the army I might not play anywhere from 2months to a year sometimes, so unfortunately, half the people I get to know forget about me or think I quite the game.
