    Elec/SD vs DM/SD

Having played and IO'd both builds to the gills, I can say that's pretty much correct. A top-end Elec/SD is a beast when it comes to AoE damage and a top-end DM/SD is a beast when it comes to single target DPS. In terms of every day practicality, Elec has the edge, but that hardly means DM is bad. We're comparing a hydrogen bomb to an atom bomb in terms of which one makes a better hand grenade.
  4. Happy Birthday Jonnie!
  5. Nice work, Phire.

What you can't see is that during the Aeon mish we were trying to figure out who had the Thorn Nexus temp.

All in all not a bad evening.

  7. Hi BlueMyth, welcome to the game.

In terms of servers, larger population isn't always better, but it can be depending on what you're looking for. Virtue and Freedom are our two highest population servers. Virtue is known as the Roleplaying server and has a very welcoming community in that regard. Freedom is the server a lot of the old hands from the original beta test went to when the game launched and also has a large population of PvPers.

I play exclusively on Champion, which is known as either the Community Server or the Drama Server, depending on who you ask. Both titles are pretty apt though. We've got some great players who put together various events, but as with any close-knit community some headbutting goes on from time to time.

There are other servers but I don't know enough about them to offer a good opinion.

Anywho, server choice isn't a permanent thing. Every now and then the developers allow free server transfers for a weekend, so if you find your server of choice to be a den of conniving backstabbers or egotistical blowhards, feel free to seek greener pastures. One of the strengths of City of Heroes is the variety of ways you can play the game.

The best advice I can give is to keep your ears open, never be afraid to try something new, and above all else have fun.

They make me think of Hydra tenactles, but that could be becuase thats the only other instant of "tentacle technology" in the game.
Those are definitely Hydra tentacles. They look identical to the ones you see in the Abandoned Sewer network as well as the Sewer Trial.
  9. Hmm, if any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, and any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science, where does the Tin Mage fit in?
  10. I can still remember the first I9 Hamidon raid that was put together during closed beta. BaBs showed up to watch the hilarity, his encouragement summed up in two words: "RUN FASTER!"

He may be gone from Paragon Studios, but I have no doubt that BaBs is still among us.
  11. I just want to turn off the effects for Hasten. And Super Speed.

Points of interest: Bay of Flame, MMO Isle (we even get our own little chunk of it!), Kanye's Isle of Sadness, the Edit War Memorial (just southwest of the Wikipedia talk pages), the former site of Craigslist adult services (now a smoking crater), and my personal favorite, The Island of Teenagers Who Just Discovered Macroeconomics.

I can't even begin to fathom how much work went into this, but it shows. I want a full-size poster to put on my wall.
  15. Recently I've been playing my Corrupter a lot more often, and I began to notice something odd. Every time I activate an attack, my FPS takes a hit. Opening up the FPS graph (/graphfps 1-7) I noticed that when an attack activates and when it hits an enemy my framerate drops. Upon further testing I saw that the framerate hiccup occurs whenever a power is activated or deactivated (the hiccup even occurs when the Performance Shifter proc goes off). I tried to reduce all the variables; costume, aura, cape, customized powers, etc. I switched around to a bunch of different toons and found that the only consistent variable was whether or not the AT was a Hero AT or a Villain AT.

I saw the issue on a Corrupter and a Brute, but not on a Blaster or Scrapper. I thought the issue might be zone related, so I took the Brute to the RWZ and saw the hiccup, but I took my Blaster to the RWZ and didn't see it. I'd swear I was going crazy if the FPS graphs didn't support my suspicions.

My question is an obvious one: is this just me? If you're also experiencing this issue, do me a favor and post here with your AT, what zone you're in, and relevant system information (OS, processor, graphics make, model and driver). My methods were pretty simple. I logged into a villain AT, typed /graphfps 7, looked at the ground to stabilize the FPS (60 FPS on my rig, or around 16 milliseconds per frame), then I found an enemy and attacked while still looking at the ground (framerate went from around 16 ms/frame up to 60 or more ms/frame upon activation of a power).

    OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Processor: Intel Centrino 2 Dual Core (2 Ghz per core)
Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 9800M GTS
    Driver: 258.96

    Alpha and Omega Costume Sets
The Alpha and Omega costume sets are some of the boldest, most striking, and most menacing costume designs we have offered. These themes contain 25 new head, chest, arm, shoulder, gloves, pants, and boot costume options. Use these distinctive pieces to express the true hope or darkness that is in the heart of your Hero, Rogue, Villain, or Vigilante.

    Alpha set
    Omega set
    Shadowy Presence
With the use of the Shadowy Presence power, your character fades into the shadows. Your character becomes nearly invisible to the keenest senses, but this uncanny stealth comes at a price. Movement, use of power, or taking damage breaks the effect. Shadowy Presence has a 10-minute cooldown and is not affected by recharge buffs.

    Heroic and Villainous Stances
Stand proud displaying just how selfless or dastardly your character is through these new stance emotes. The new heroic and villainous stances can be activated from the Quick Chat window or typed in the chat line with the command given below.

    Heroic stance 1 (/em stancehero1)
    Heroic stance 2 (/em stancehero2)
    Villainous stance 1 (/em stancevillain1)
    Villainous stance 2 (/em stancevillain2)
    Alpha and Omega Auras
The City of Heroes® Going Rogue™: Complete Collection Item Pack also contains two brand new auras that express your character's true intent.

Alpha - A costume aura that represents the epitome of good.
Omega - A costume aura that represents the pinnacle of evil.

  18. Is that... comic sans serif? It is, isn't it?
  19. Ah, yes, May of 2004. For some odd reason I was playing Lineage II at the time. I still don't know why. Anywho, while I was killing bouncing mushrooms over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, my brother was giving City of Heroes a go. He was all like "you don't start out fighting rats, you fight gang members and work your way up from there". I was intrigued: an MMO where you don't start out killing wildlife? He let me give it a shot and I created my first character: The Crimson Thunder, and Elec/Elec Blaster, and I was immediately hooked. I went to EB Games the next week, traded in some games and got CoH for about $20. My brother had started out on Champion, because he thought the name sounded cool, and I followed suit. I don't remember if it was that same day or a few days later, but sometime after May 27th I created Demobot, an Energy Blast/Energy Manipulation Blaster, who would become my first 50 and the toon I've played more than any other.

I've stuck with CoH because the community is far and away the best of any MMO I've played.
