Yeah, the badges in the transit stations are for hitting all three of them. Then you get the badge.
I've seent he day job icon show up in several places, even if I didn't get the message. Including the transit areas. -
Anyone know what is up with the 3.1 gig patch going on? Sorry if it is posted elsewhere.

Quote:Yeah, that is one of the things that is keeping my "new zone" expectations down. People are saying it should have as many as CoV had, because that was the last expansion. Only, CoV was not developed as an expansion, it was developed as it's own game that could hook up with CoH for an expanded experionce. (expanshalone I believe some sites called it). Even if by now, it's been merged with CoH completely as part of the game, the fact is it's development and everything else was making a new, but linked, game, not an expansion.Yeah, I wouldn't count CoV. I think we can see from this that while CoV was a game in its own right (that tied closely in with CoH), Going Rogue isn't as self-sustaining as CoV could be, maybe because it isn't as big (I hope not) or maybe because the storylines and components of it require CoH and/or CoV. I think this makes sense because if you ONLY had Going Rogue, how are you gonna switch sides? So I think it's fair to call GR the "first expansion" because it's the first time you've needed the original game.
That being said, we'll probably start getting more GR news after I16 goes live. Even if Going Rogue isn't tied to issue 17, but if it's not, then it's really weird they announced it so early. -
Quote:It is theoretically possible. CLosed beta just has to still be going on for a week or so after November 15th for them to make good on their promise. You are guaranteed in the closed beta, but no word on how long.It would be a nice Christmas gift to wake up and Play Going Rouge.
A lot of people buy multiple months at a time too, so closed beta could easily start in september or october, with regular choices as well as people already paid up past nov 15th getting in. Then, as long as closed beta is going on until like November 23rd-25th they can get those other people in and keep their word.
Granted, this IS wishful thinking. But it is possible. -
I can't say I've ever had an experience like this on here. Though it amuses me how many people don't understand that 1) girls play video games 2) they don't have to prove it to you 3) they're not interested in you outside of whatever game mechanics they joined you for (i.e. PUG) and 4) they are probably already spoken for to further reinforce #3.
That being said, the people like referenced in this thread amuse the hell out of me when I get to see their antics. Even if it also saddens me that they're going to inevitably scare off some of the people that are 'testing the waters' of gaming and don't want to be associated with that kind of stuff.
Oh, and MunkiLord, you almost ruined my keyboard with that comment! Jerk :P -
I honestly don't see why this bothers some people. Yeah, I mean I can see you wanting others to put the same effort you had to to get to the same place, but ultimately you can just not play with them right? Your content is still there, by going out and doing it you should be meeting other like minded individuals and all that.
Besides, the proof really shows itself when you do play actual content with them. Having your non-buffed brute out surviving their higher level tank because you know how to play your character and they don't is kinda fun.
So, why not just play, have fun, and well...let them deal with the fact that they missed all the good stories between 1 and 50 that weren't in the MA system. -
I think that is the three tiers for the loyalty program. Not the all exclusive. but basically, you been playing for 60+ months and subscribed through august to november, you're going to get in before someone who only has say 35 months of Vet time.
-
To be fair, the loyalty program just means that the closed beta will be still going after November 15th. Considering /everyone/ who is subscribed from August 15th to November 15th gets in, it's also likely going to be shy of going into open beta when that happens, since it's very easy to get in at that point.
That being said, it does also make it look like GR will be a Jan/Feb thing, unless they don't open beta going rogue at all. But even that seems unlikely. -
Only thing I want is a 'Trick Shot' secondary to go with it. Kind of like the Trick Arrow, just more shots.
Kneecaping for slows, shooting a web grenade or something for holds, a 'build up' type power, stuff like that.
Hell, comics are full of people with pistols loading special 'one shot' rounds into the front of their guns and using them. You could put those things in this set, and leave the dual pistols for just shooting folks the old fashioned way. -

I haven't posted in like 3 months, for the simple reason that it's not something I like to do. In all eyes pointed at the screen, I feel that reading n understanding others is more important then sharing ones own opinion, but I will say something. If they do release the expansion this year, it will be BIG! And no one knows how far they are with the content in GR. They could have been working on it in the background, covering it with issues n patches n "bugs" to keep people from asking questions bout a new expansion. I'm willin to bet that they posted the expansion on purpose to turn the public's eyes to something else keep the people from asking questions bout the upcoming changes to the game. Which by now I'm assuming is something they are getting really tired of. They will with no doubt blow thur the i16 testing n debugging, just like they did with the last few issues, for gods sake, they haven't even updated mids for i15. And just before everyone thinks that GR wont come out for the x-mas season, they will announce it before Black Friday n corner the market on the super hero/villain game franchise, n i16 will just draw the hype from Champions. If you want guesses n speculation ask anyone else. I prefer to think that why would you announce something n make a official page bout it, whether then send out a retraction saying future plans have leaked, please wait for more on the subject at a later time.... Sounds fishy but ok. Some may see intuition as one persons means to justify your own meanings to come to conclusions that are necessarily true, but I'm usually not wrong bout this stuff. I've said it before n I'll say it again, no matter what happens with the release of the upgrades n expansions, the game will just continue to get better n better with 40+ people workin on it now. Long Live CoX!

The official page wasn't even working at the time of the "release"
Trust me, I want to get GR by XMas since I am always on vacation then. The truth is sad but plausible...we might not get it in time.
Unless the devs have been putting a ton of work into GR while the game was releaseing all these systems and features. This scenario is also very plausible.
In the end I do want this expansion/game by xmas...am I keeping my hopes up? I don't know
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, not to be the new optimist, but most of the content we've gotten this year has been features not story content. Which means the content people have been working on something right?
GR is to reinvent early and late game experience, with a bunch of new stories to experience. If that is the majority of what GR will have in it, then maybe that is what the content people have spent the year on.
So now they need to get the other stuff in, the bells and whistles and such.
I don't think it will necessarily be 2009, but you have to agree marketing probably wants a 2k9 release if only to compete with Champions with a new box on the shelves. Still, I'd say at the very very earliest we'll see GR by 11/25 or so. and if it's not out by 12/07 we probably won't see it until mid-late January if even then. -

Honestly, modest costumes aren't realistic for certain types of fighting, for either male or female. Superheroes lean heavily towards hand to hand fighting, and when your enemy is close enough to lay hands on you they can easily avoid most protective clothing. In addition, things like body armor make really great handholds, making it really easy for your opponent to throw you around. It doesn't matter how strong you are, if you give your enemy a good enough grip to get your feet off the ground, you're going pretty much wherever they want to put you.
If a character has more than a quarter inch of hair, you have no business talking about how "practical" or "impractical" their outfit is -- if you have hair you aren't prepared to fight. Necks are weaker than arms, and hair tends to be stronger than neck muscles, so hair is nothing more than an invitation to getting your face slammed into the nearest hard object. Almost all heroes and villains have hair that is way too long to fight in, after which point it's just silly to worry that their shirt looks too easy to pull off in a fight.
Really, once a character has hair they're already so hopelessly impractical and vain that nothing else is even close in importance. (Which is why the Frank Miller incarnation of Catwoman shaved her head.)
Capes are straight out.
[/ QUOTE ]
Way off topic, but I like how they follow this with the new Batwoman. Batman even tells her to lose the hair if she's serious about fighting
In general, I stopped making assumptions about who is playing what, I also generally stopped caring.
Fact is, a LOT of girls play video games now, and while it may not be true last time I saw the numbers more girls played MMOs then guys did world wide. (I no longer have the numbers was years ago). Add to this the fact that all the friends I know that are female and play this game, their female toons wear much skimpier clothes then my ones.
The only way I do guess "boy" when I play and see a skimpily dressed female toon, is the ones that I've seen people I know are girls playing have looked GOOD while being sexy. The ones I've seen boys playing have just looked...bad. The style wasn't there. Granted, that is just my opinion. -
Actually, the seasons idea is kinda cool. Maybe even, if you can, tie it into the weather Rhode Island is actually getting, so Paragon gets the full 4 seasons, sometimes in one day. (Gotta love New England).
Revamped 1-20 content would be awesome too.
The random attacks I think would be cool to. Just having a 50' giant robot walking around and smashing buildings and stuff for Hero's to stop. Or villains attacking the city.
Something similar perhaps in Rogue Isles, though thematically that's harder to pull off.
There was one mentioned in the recent Rikti Invasion discussion thread, it would take a lot of work but would be awesome. Move time forward! Go back and update content and comments, the Rikti aren't coming back, they ARE back, and their invasion has been for the most part stalled and is now just open fighting contained in one zone area. Show us that, move time forward, keep it moving forward. Let the cities (Rogue Isles too) grow with the game.
The game is 5 years old, players have been saving Paragon for 5 years. Show that. Granted, this is, as said, a TON of work, but I think it would give a huge 'oomph' to the game too. -
I'm not a number cruncher, but I have a question on the Tank/Brute debate you guys have going here.
Wouldn't it be better to give the Tanker a version of fury that upped their damage resistance not damage dealing capabilities? Yeah, I know tankers are super hard to kill as is, but that is their job, they TAKE hits, a lot of hits, and in the process of this they get to hit back.
A Brutes job is to GIVE hits, a lot of hits, and in the process of this they get hit back. As such, the more swinging going on around a brute, the harder they hit as that is their job. Melee damage monkey, that because of the needs Red side, needs to be able to take a licking. But ultimately, a brute survives a fight by killing everything around it.
I'm a big fan of not nerfing one to restore balance, but bringing everything to parity. If say Brutes are out performing Scrappers and Tanks. Scrappers and tanks should get a bit of an increase while Brutes get a bit of a decrease. Yes this is a nerf, but a smaller one while also raising the under-performers.
I also though, don't see why a Tanker should be dealing more damage because there are more people on him hitting him. I understand fury was originally supposed to be a Tank thing, but I also agree with the thematic reasons they never gave it to tankers.
However, upping a tankers damage resist or whatever could keep the survivability edge for them beyond a brute being at 44.2% fury or whatever it is. -

If I already paid for CoH, how do I get the Going Rogue expansion?
[/ QUOTE ]
When it comes out you buy it. You then access your City of Heroes account from the web (link on the front page of cityofheroes.com) and update your existing account.
That's it, you're done.
Oh, you may have to install off the disc. Dunno about that yet or not. -
Yep, Family (5-40).
Least the problem has been duplicated now. -
No, it's the cargo ships (cargo 4) and both the boss and ally are supposed to spawn with enemies around them. Neither of which show up (the enemies, the boss and ally do). So basically, you got a 'captured' hero with no one guarding them, and a boss who talks to himself
-
So, I'm new to Mission Architect, and I looked a bit but didn't see the answer to this question.
I'm trying to make a story arc (big surprise), and I have all the text and options done for the first mission. Only, when I go to test it, no enemies spawn inside it. The boss for the end mission spawns, the ally spawns. but no enemies spawn.
Is this just something for test mode? Or did I miss some obvious button somewhere? I selected the enemies for the map, have checked that a few times.
Any other ideas what it could be? -
Alternatively, if you've already got a patron and you switch sides. Why would your hero lose abilities he's already learned? Same with a hero and the epic pools?
By the same token, if you swap at 38, and hit 40 after having 'Gone Rogue' why couldn't you learn the stuff for your side? Especially since odds are only the content made during/after going rogue will care that you were once a villain/hero, unless there is a much more massive world update coming on the GR disc then a MMO normally gets. -

Honestly, I'd expect I16 and Going Rogue info during/just before Comicon. I mean, that is what cons are for, and from a marketing standpoint it just makes sense when you consider the fact that Champions will probably also have a strong show going for their game, and Co* needs to compete.
Otherwise, just be patient. Go run some of those missions the AE kiddies are missing that people are always talking about. -
Kind of a simple question. Maybe someone else here will know the answer for me.
The blades that Blood Widows and Night Widows use. Are they surgically implanted into their bodies? Or part of the suit? or what? Because they pop out like claws, but Widows are natural origin.
Just curious -
This is probably answered somewhere, but are the blades blood/night widows use surgically implanted in their bodies? Or part of the suit? Can't find it on paragon wiki, as the blood widow entry just talks abut the player class, not the fluff behind them.
-
The real thing is though, is that any melee set is still that a melee set. So Psi melee is basically just going to be melee only with a glowing mental blade or something as opposed to a weapon.
That being said, i'm all for it, though it does seem weird that most of the melee weapons are bladed (for heroes too) when it seems most heroes in comics use blunt weapons to you know, not murder everyone they fight
It'd be cool to get a staff set, but one of those other ones (psi, radiation melee) would be very awesome too.
If nothing else, how about paired ascrima(sp?) sticks for dual blades for those of us who want to at least pretend we're not killing every thug we meet on the street -
Something wrote for a friend. May as well link here too

Wrote this for a friend, they asked me to post it here and see what you guys think.
Good guys win, bad guys lose. It had been true for as long as she could remember, always there, always taunting. She could remember the first time she'd heard it, she'd been maybe seven at the time and had asked one of the local kids how come if Megatron was supposed to be so much stronger that Optimus Prime always won. The kid had smiled at her the way one would at one who couldn't know better, it wasn't her fault she was a girl and thus didn't know this obvious fact of fighting, Because stupid, the good guys win and the bad guys lose he'd said. Funny how such a simple thing, said in jest between two kids before they'd even been on the earth eight years was going to be such a prophetic statement for her life. Throughout the years it kept coming up, when she'd ran away from home she'd become a bad guy as the kid who witnessed her arrest had called her. In Appleton, for all the things she got away with there were plenty she didn't, and then when things got out of hand, oh the good guys had won again. Through the Zig and back again, she'd refound the only friend that had ever watched her back, even been able to act on a few fantasies, live a life she'd always wanted. Oh sure, the life was a lie, but lying in bed in Vicky's arms none of that had ever seemed to matter. No, there everything made sense. Good guys win, bad guys lose, the thought echoed in her head again as she looked up at the sky, at the flotilla of ships that were there raining death and destruction down on the city. The good guys were losing, maybe because the bad guys were helping them and so fate was confused.
I'm tired of it... the words had escaped her before she even knew she was going to speak. Vicky, huddled near her in the remains of a bombed out building still had tears in her eyes, arms wrapped around some guy who had finally managed to make her truly happy. Her hands were glowing, crackling with energy as she desperately tried to save him, the sight of it struck a chord deep inside Cassie down in the hollow void that she'd been trying to ignore, hide, and fill for so long. Deep down, deep in that void, she'd always known that what her and Vicky had wasn't real, not in the way she wanted it to be. Vicky cared for her sure, as a friend, a comrade, but not as a lover, not the way that Cassie loved her. They'd had a fun few months, but ultimately Vicky was a prize worth pursuing, even in a city where the Olympians would look ugly. Cassie hadn't been surprised when Vicky had found someone who made her happy in a way Cassie didn't. Someone who Vicky could love, someone who loved her back. It hurt to watch Vicky like that with someone else, and yet, if she hadn't been watching she wouldn't have seen Vicky's head turn to her as she muttered those words, the caring from friendship in Vicky's eyes as she looked up to Cassie, confused as to what had been said.
Cassie smiled to her, the smile didn't really touch her eyes but it was the effort that counted right? I'm tired of it... she said again, tired of losing because I'm the bad guy. I want to be the hero The words sounded ridiculous coming out of her mouth, she couldn't hold Vicky's gaze and looked back to the sky and the four ships hanging over this part of the city.
Cassie, what are you saying? Vicky's voice was choked, concern, dust, all of it in one. It had been a rather rough 48 hours on the poor girl after all.
Cassie looked back to Vicky again, taking the step over and leaning down to kiss her full on the lips. Vicky stiffened a moment, it had been weeks since they'd kissed, and the last time Cassie'd tried there'd been a fight over it. Vicky didn't fight though, and after a second relaxed into it. Cassie slowly pulled back, trying not to cry as she gave Vicky her best reassuring smile, I love you you know, I always have. Since the first day we met when you'd come back from that party. Thanks, and...make sure he takes care of you ok?
Cassie! Don't! Vicky's voice called after her, but it was too late Cassie was gone, having turned and launched herself into the air, towards the heavens and the ships that waited there. From the ground several pockets of resistance, Vanguard, Heroes, Villains, all having been trapped here and pounded down watched. The word had been that all the flyers were down, killed or injured to the point they may as well be dead. Seeing a lone flyer racing up, numerous groups opened fire with whatever they could providing cover for the suicidal flyer, hoping that there was a plan to this, or at least a chance for a momentum change.
Speed, more speed, I need to go faster! The thought was a mantra in Cassie's mind as she raced towards the sky, putting everything she had into going just a bit more faster, pushing herself on. The air around her exploded with light, Rikti turrets trying to track her, the people on the ground shooting at them and trying to draw attention away from her, some succeeding but most not. Several shots passed close enough to leave sear marks on her flesh and clothes, but luck was with her enough that she was going too fast for them to get a proper bead on her. Almost at the ship, she couldn't stop the smirk from forming as she saw one of the doors open and Rikti troops in power armor jumping out. Apparently they'd learned their lesson well, just one person in this city could turn the tide of the battle, and that was something they most definitely didn't want to happen. The smirk spread to a full smile as Cassie crossed her arms over her head, this was really really going to hurt.
At top speed, the energy blast from the first Rikti out the door didn't slow her down a bit, even as it numbed her arms and sent tingling spasms through her body. Then she was slamming into said Rikti, her numb arms taking the brunt of the blow as she hit with enough force to catch him neatly and use him as a cushion as they both went back into the Rikti ship, slamming into and through bulkheads. Neither the Rikti trapped doubled over Cassie's arms, nor his comrades in the ship had the good sense to not try and shoot Cassie. Plasma and other random energy bolts shot everywhere in her wake as she just kept pressing forward. The random shots hit things they shouldn't have, and as the last of Cassie's momentum punched her out the other side of the shipgranted with some help from all the firing to weaken the hullthe ship blew up in her wake. Even this high in the air she could hear the cheering coming from the ground, and the ground fire doubled itself. There wasn't time for celebration though, she had a rush of energy but she knew she couldn't keep this pace up for long, and the element of surprise was lost now. Moving quickly, Cassie headed for the closest ship, weaving and juking as fast as she can to avoid the onslaught of fire coming at her from the now deployed Rikti forces around the ship, not to mention the significantly heavier fire coming from the ships themselves.
Her eyes went black as lessons from Ghost Widow that had always been so hard for her to grasp came easily in her desperation. Black orbs formed around either hand as she charged the line of Rikti, one of the Vanguard briefings had mentioned the Rikti were some sort of mutated humans, and if they were humans than they had souls. Just shy of reaching the line she released the energy she'd formed, the bolts shot out towards the Rikti forces, exploding into small tendrils that went seeking each individually, wanting only to feast on their soul. The energy wouldn't do much, Cassie's mastery of it was far too weak, however it did work as a distraction and bought her the time needed to finish closing the distance. Without stopping she grabbed the boot of one of the rikti troops, spinning around and using him as a club on the next two closest before throwing him at the next group. She didn't have time for the small fry, she'd have to hope that between the tendrils and what she'd just did she'd have enough time to take this ship out quickly.
A hit from one of the defense cannons spun her around, costing her the last bit of her trench coat that had been holding it on and allowing the red leather coat, or at least it's remains, to flutter back down to the ground. Grunting against the pain, she pressed on anyhow and moved to the back of the ship. The heat coming off the engines was immense, even more so when without thinking she just reached in and grabbed the edges of the cone that shaped the thrust. Even through her body's natural resistances the pain was intense, making her scream out. The pain however only fueled her rage more, and with a great heave she ripped that part of the engine out of the ship, now off balance the ship began to teeter and spin as it crashed towards the ground.
Halfway done, the second to breathe she allowed herself cost her as something slammed into her back, burning through the back of her shirt as if it wasn't there. Smoke trailing from her back she began to fall from the sky, the world spinning and twirling around her. Below, the firing from the ground forces began to concentrate around her, noone hitting but a clear attempt to keep her free from further attack. Just twenty feet shy of hitting the ground she caught herself, shaking her head clear and looking back to the sky saw the Rikti with the very large cannon taking aim at her again. Not this time buddy she growled to herself and shot back up into the air. Reading her intentions one helpful person on the ground shot near enough the aiming rikti that he had to move and thus couldn't shoot. Hurt and tired Cassie couldn't help the grin on her face as she caught up to the rikti, grabbing the gun from his hands before kicking with both feet into his gut. As the rikti sailed away, she turned the gun on the third ship and pulled the trigger. Either the weapon had been set to it's maximum setting, God himself was on her side, she was lucky as hell, or all of the above as the beam that was loosed from the gun was more powerful than the one that had hit her just moments before by a significant margin. The beam hit the Rikti ship, super heating the metal to the point it seemed to boil before punching through and taking the ship out. The weapon celebrated it's victory by promptly exploding as Cassie went to drop it and move to the last ship.
The fourth ship, having watched it's three comrades drop one by one in short order wasn't taking any chances. Every gun on the ship had opened fire, shooting indiscriminately into the ground, the air, to the heavens, everywhere that a Rikti wasn't around it had energy and missiles shooting through it. And those places that did have Rikti in them, well, the Riki themselves were firing. Cassie worked her way through as quick as she could, her mind no longer caring as she got hit from any direction, the world had taken on a red haze. Dodge, juke, and weave turning into a simple repition of smash, smash, smash that never seemed to end. Her clothes was in tatters, she was cut, bleeding, and bruised from how many different places and her normally pale skin was so soot covered she looked like she'd been tanning in jamaica for months. Still, she managed to make it to the fourth ship, landing on the roof and beginning to pound on the metal. A gun barrel spun, hitting her in the head and sending her sprawling towards the side, she just barely managed to catch herself before falling as her hand caught a loose edge. Pulling herself back up, she let what she had left, all the rage and pain loose. I smash AM smash! NOT Smash! LOSING! SMASH! She yelled as she repeatedly slammed her fists into the hull of the ship, she made a big enough dent she didn't have to worry about holding on and used both hands. Her fist managed to punch through after what felt like hours of pounding, grabbing two edges she pulled, making the hole larger and fell in, right in front of five Rikti who were training guns on her. The concussive force from the shots slammed her back into part of the engines. The guns were charging for a second shot. Damn she was tired, the world was blurring as she looked around, her head swimming. There, that looked important, with a last ditch effort she hit whatever 'that' was. Her efforts were rewarded as the already strained engines behind her started sparking. boom she said, the guns repeated what she'd just said.
The last ship exploded spectacularly, raining Rikti and debris down on the city scape beneath it. No longer able to be held up by the ship, or her own conscious effort, gravity took a hold of Cassie and pulled her towards the ground. The air rushed past her, debris raining down around her as she hurtled towards the ground. Her mind fought to stay conscious, it was losing, and badly. Good guys win, bad guys lose. She smiled. Oblivion took her long before she hit the ground.

Vicky was torn, the man in her arms was taking her full attention to stay alive, and up in the sky the woman who had just confessed her love was fighting in a suicide charge trying to help. I want to be the hero she'd said before leaving, Vicky shut her eyes tight, the hero in these situations usually died. She came to a decision, as cruel as it was to Cassie, Cassie had made her choice. Vicky wouldn't look up, Cassie was giving time, she wasn't going to waste it by not saving the life she held in her arms. Turning her full attention back to the man, she redoubled her efforts to keeping him alive.
Even without looking however Vicky knew the exact moment that Cassie had fulfilled her wish, with the Rikti ships down, the field that had been stopping any form of teleportation dropped and the med-porters kicked in immediately. Pulling all the badly injured heroes out of the area, sorting them by need, and sending them to the hospitals that were left. That left only the 'villains' in the area, not linked to the cities med centers, but Vanguard medics were rushing to help them as quickly as they could, and with the injured heroes no longer clogging things up, more aid could be given to the people left. Cassie! It dawned on Vicky that despite the time Cassie had spent in Paragon lately, she never would have been part of that grid. Climbing to her feet, Vicky left the shell of a building she'd been in, and went looking for her friend.
