  1. I haven't ever rolled a controller before and was wondering what the pros/cons and dos/don'ts of an Ice/Ice troller.

    Thanks

No enemy has higher odds of dropping a purple than any other, so just slaughter all that come before you. Also, you might look into running tip missions (if you have GR) for the A-Merits... 2 A-Merits will net you a LotG+Recharge which'll sell for ~150 million inf. There's lots of other ways to make inf as well, such as playing the market.
Thanks for the information about the farming. I've been slaughtering monsters for 3 days in a row now and still haven't gotten a single purple (I've done the ITF 8 times in the past two days and also got none from the Random Recipie Merit Reward Scrolls).

As for Going Rogue, I'm planning on getting that soon. Hopefully in a week or so, then I will start doing tip missions for influence.

Last but not least...I've played the market before but I found that I'm quite impatient. I have to get back into the market though because I hear that it's one of the best ways to get influence.

    Farming Question

I have a demon farm from "Harvey Maylor" and I was wondering what would be the best way to run this mission to have the highest chance at getting purple IO sets. I've heard that it's either best to run it on +2/x6 or +1/x8. Is this true? Also, do all of the purples drop from demons in this mission or just certain ones (I am trying to make money to complete my build).

    Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a fun build XD.

Anyway, I thought I'd throw in my defense-based Fire/Fire build. It's one small purple inspiration away from the defense softcap, has 50% recharge, a fairly focused attack chain (Note: Burn is efficient DPA against a single target. It's that good) and a good 0.4 EPS more net recovery than your last build (before the two Performance Shifter procs). A couple of useful notes:

    1) Fire Shield is overslotted, but the set bonus frees up more slots elsewhere.
    2) The build is a little light on -KB, but it's really slot-starved. Swap RotP for Acrobatics if you don't like Rise and are finding knockback annoying.

Thanks for the build, I will be attempting this.

You should probably just use Mack's build posted above. He hit 32.5% vector defenses which will protect you against almost all attacks. With a small inspiration, you will feel pretty much invincible. It only has one KB protection IO, but defense should help prevent you from getting too many knockbacks stacked on you at once.
Ya, I know I had troubles staying on task when it came to my defences and which ones to focus on. I tried for all of them which was the wrong answer =). I will try out Mack's build.
  7. So, this is the new build with the feedback taken into consideration. Did I follow what you guys said? I upped my defences quite a lot.

Also, There is another thread with almost the exact same title and everything just below this one... I would have posted in that one...
I will repost another build with some differences due to the feedback that I got. I wish I was paying more attention when posting this, I should of put it in that other thread. Sorry

For instance, all your armor toggles are way overslotted; you shouldn't put more than 4 slots in each--all the def/res pieces in a set--unless you're adding a specialty IO like the Steadfast +Def or a KB IO. Which, by the way, is another problem since as far as I can see you have no KB protection at all. You need least one Steadfast -KB to slot in a resistance toggle.

While your toggles are overslotted for end reduction, some of your attacks--which are actually the biggest problem for end-use--are underslotted. I would stay away from using full sets of Obliteration unless you absolutely need them for melee defense, and in general there are other, better ways of getting it.

Lastly, you need to decide whether you are working toward typed or positional defense and concentrate on that; the current build is all over the place in that regard. For example, if you want positional defense, you should look at Touch of Death, Mako's Bite and Scirocco's Dervish sets for your attacks. And be sure to get the Steadfast +def since that's an easy 3% defense to everything.

EDIT: Oops, just noticed you do have Acrobatics. That's fine, but I think it's a problem that you don't have Incinerate or GFS. I'd be inclined to drop Acro and get KB protection with IOs to pick up one of those attacks. And unless you really want/need Recall Friend, I'd drop it too. IIRC, the general consensus is that Char and Fire Blast are much better than RoF and Melt Armor, so you might want to consider that.
Noted. Thanks for the feedback, I will try to rework the build tonight and repost it.

For Tankers without defense built-in to their power sets, it is usually more practical to aim for 32.5% defense. You can go for either S/L and E/N, or melee, ranged, and AoE. If you plan on farming fire-based critters, F/C defense would help, but fire is a rare damage type in actual game content. At 32.5% defense, you are one small inspiration from the soft cap. Often, you will find that you don't need that much to survive. Your team may have buffs that will put you over the soft cap, too.

Reaching that high of a level of defense is easiest when you use at least 3 pool powers. I use Combat Jumping, Weave, and usually Maneuvers, but Stealth and Hover work too. For a Fire Tanker, Hover would be a bad choice because you need to be on the ground to use Burn.

Don't 6-slot powers, unless you are going for a defense bonus. Even then, it had better be 3.75% to the defense you are going for (vectored or typed) and not the other way around.

Don't 6-slot Consume. Recharge and a bit of accuracy are all you should need. It will fill you up it if hits 5 targets without endurance modification enhancements. Frankenslotting might be best for that power.
Thanks for the advice, I am reposting an altered build later tonight with the feedback incorporated.
  9. Hey guys,

Below is the build that I plan on implementing onto my level 50 fire/fire tanker. At this moment in time I just do a demon farm with him and I do it on x8. I have troubles with it, that's why I wanted to change my build. I'm sick of sucking as a tanker, my damage sucks, my defence/resistance sucks...I need a change. I'm hoping that using this build (I CREATED) as a template, with the help of the community, we could create a build so that I don't suck anymore.

What I would like to achieve with this build is the following:
-Tank for teams and the occasional TF.
-Run some new farming missions and not suck, not just the demon farm.
-Not run out of endurance, this happens a lot ATM.

I've tried to gear this build towards END recovery and have DEFENCE/RESISTANCE tag along a little bit. (I focused on END and DEFENCE/RESISTANCE followed).

I'm not sure even if I have the right powers chosen, but that's why I'm here eh? ( they are also not in a good order, I just picked powers and slots as I went along)

One last thing before looking at the build, I have about 650M or so far saved up and was looking to spend less then 1.5-2B on the final version of the build that we come up with.

    And before I forget, THANKS!

Rogues and Vigilanties can't accululate Alignment Merits, and switching alignments will cause you to lose any you have built up.

Alignment merits are rewarded from doing alignment (morality) missions and staying "pure" (Hero or Villain) as opposed to grey (Rogue/Vigilante.) You do 5 tips (which drop from any enemy level 20 or up) a day. After 10 tips, the next one that drops *should* be an alignment mission - you'll get that even if you've run all your tips.

The first time you get your alignment misison, you won't get an A-merit, but will get a nice cache of reward merits (and a countdown to your alignment power.) The second (and after) times, you get a merit.

Also, every 20 hours you can turn in 20,000,000 INF and 50 reward merits (from memory) and buy an Alignment merit.

And don't worry about asking too many questions - but do bookmark paragonwiki (in my signature.) It's a good resource.

The first time you do your hero/villain morality you will get 50 merits, then once you do it again you just get the hero/villain merit. It is a VERY handy way of earning merits. I've made several billion inf and acquired some useful IO's using hero merits. If you would like to chat mroe about it, hit me up in game!

Thanks for all of the information you guys, I guess my first step would to bookmark ParagonWiki.
My second step would be acquiring CoH Rogue...
  12. So I was reading the forums and came across this:

    Quote:
One other thing: Do your tip missions. You can do up to 5 each day, and while running them, you have a chance of purple recipes (if you're a level 50). Every other day, you'll be able to do an Alignment Mission. The first Alignment Mission will reward you with 50 Merits. After that, each Alignment Mission you do will award you an Alignment Merit. Alignment Merits can be used to purchase almost anything in the game. If you're tight on money, it's almost always better to get an expensive recipe with A-Merits instead of Inf. And if you prefer, you can sell the expensive item you got, and have enough to pick up a handful of cheaper IOs instead.
    and this:

    Quote:
Alignment merits are probably the most reliable way to make INF, and are great for people with limited (1-2hrs/day) play time. Save up 30 and buy a Gladiator's 3% defense, then sell it for 2-3 billion, or sell other expensive IOs like Luck of the Gambler global recharge.
So, you may be able to guess, I would like to make money by doing alignment missions. Do I do this just by doing the missions that say "You have found a tip!"? Or after I do those missions, I will get another mission you of the blue and after I do that one I will get merits...

Basically I'm asking for a little guide on this whole alignment missions/merits thing, or maybe a link to a thread already dedicated to this?

    Thanks a ton!

P.S. I think I ask to many questions on this forum...this is my fourth in two days.

Thanks for the "ProTip"/looking out for fellow CoH/CoV'ers. I didn't know about that. :-)

P.S. I gotta learn to multi-quote...haha, sorry for all the posts that could easily be put into one post.

Correctamondo! I couldn't get a reply from my SG or random players so I came to the forums and after I posted this I saw A thread for the N P C chat channel and decided to give it a try. Thanks for your help when I joined that channel, I finished the arc and got my PPP.

If I could log into the game right now (yet another *Unable to patch* error and the update sever is running a whopping 56K right now.....), I'd get you the build.
I got a FF/Arch also, the *KABOOM* is the most gratifying part about him.
  16. Really dumb question: Does the Patron Power Pool mission from Arbiter Rein still exist on red side?

I couldn't get an answer in-game so I came to the forums. I was looking to do it and then respec my guy cause it says that you get a respec from doing it in the link below. Plus, if I do it and I already have a freespec on my toon, do I have to use the freespec first or will I just have both respecs?

If you had customized your chat window tabs with global channels, then you may want to log into a character who's chat window set up is still they way you like it. Then do Menu-->blah blah blah-->click [Save to Default file] first.

    Edit:
By the way, I don't know if you were around when coloring chat channels was introduced. Left click the Channel name, then select color. If you have a chat window that shares several global channels, you can use the colors to differentiate the chats. Set up all the colors before you do the [Save to Default file].

    Edit again:
You may also want to enable Individual Name Colors too (scroll back up to the Chat section).
    You answered every question imaginable...THANKS!
  18. Hey guys, just a quick question...

I clicked the delete tab button by accident and lost all of my Chat tab. I got it back by doing Add tab but its not how it was before, Chat on the bottom then combat/help on the top of it. How do I reset my whole interface or fix this to the way it was?

    Thanks

    Lonely Me.

You will be surprised on how many nice and welcoming players there are on City of Heroes. Take my experience for example, I JUST came back to playing CoH 2 days ago from a 6 month break and already I have a couple new friends, just by doing TF's and helping people out etc.

I know what you mean though when you say that the people you play with don't play any more. I had my first in-game friend, "Draco Fireling", when I started playing and I mean we did errrrr-thing together. Then we started taking breaks at different times and I haven't heard from him in over 2 years now. It can be sad to lose your in-game friends if they quit or take extended breaks but CoH is the most welcoming community I have ever been in. Just get out there and start chatting up converstions with poeple, it will work, trust me. =)

DRACO IF YOUR OUT THERE SOMEWHERE, I MISS YA BUD! It's me Flame............:'(
  21. Hey guys, I was just thinking about making a PVP character and was wondering what server has the biggest PVP community/population? Plus what side should I go, Red or Blue? I have characters on Justice and Freedom at the moment. Thanks

  22. Roger dodger =). Thanks for the information about the respecs...turned out I had a free one on every character! All of my problems are solved!
    Thanks everyone for your replies.
  23. Alright, thanks for the information. I think I will give that a try.
  24. Hey fellow heroes and villains,

I'm returning to CoH/CoV (just bought a month subscription) and I just had a couple of questions, well really one main question.

I have Stamina and Health pool powers on almost all of my characters and I learnt that these powers are now inherit. Do I have to use a respec to choose my powers and slots again because I "wasted" two/three/four levels on choosing those powers. I would prefer to spend my powers/slots on different powers (since these are now inherit) and was wondering if a respec was the only way to accomplish this. Thanks
