  1. I was just wondering if anyone else has been having a problem with the game freezing as in it says "not responding" and then having to Ctrl+Alt+Del it out and restart. It happens about once every 1-2 hours for me. I'm not sure what could be happening. Any ideas? It just recently happened mid Lambda.

It sounds like the message you got from the GM misunderstood what you were asking, since the issue you're having is that you want to apply a code to an account that shouldn't be able to actually have it applied to it, but the NCSoft website's account management interface claimed you were freem instead.
Thanks for your insight on my situation. That makes complete sense. So I guess I'll just create a new account/give it to someone I know.
  3. Hey guys,

I decided to pick up CoH again but have run into a problem. I saw the ad for "City of Heroes Freedom™ VIP Starter Kit" and I was like; "Oh I haven't bought "Going Rogue" yet so maybe I should buy this. Now let me clarify one thing. I have a CoH account that I started in '06, in-fact that's the only account that I have and therefor is the one I'm am currently using to type this forum post. I went to my account page on NCsoft and checked out my CoH account type and right next to the words "Account Type:" it said free. Therefor I assumed that I would be able to apply the "City of Heroes Freedom™ VIP Starter Kit" to my account to be able to play again because on the purchase screen for this package in the NCsoft Store it states the following "The City of Heroes Freedom™ VIP Starter Kit can only be applied to new or free(non-premium) accounts.". So since mine was stated as a free account I though that I would be able to apply the code from the package to my account and voila! But no...

The only thing it allows me to do it click on "-You have 1 unused serial code(s)." and then it brings me to an account creator screen and I did try to re-enter my existing account details but it wont apply it to my account. It says I need to make a new account. I sent a message to NCsoft and got a reply back I don't really understand it. Here it is:

    Hi,

I just purchased the VIP Starter Kit for City of heroes Freedom for 14.99$ thinking I could use i on my existing account but it won't let me. I chose this package because it came with "Going Rogue" and I didn't have that yet. On the following webpage; https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/St...em&item_id=593 it states this: "The City of Heroes Freedom™ VIP Starter Kit can only be applied to new or free(non-premium) accounts.". My account falls under the category of free(non-premium) so I assumed that I would be able to use this code towards my existing account. Is there any way to achieve this?

    Thanks

This was the reply that I got:

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting NCsoft Account Support.

Freedom Head Start is currently only available for VIP players (accounts that have an active subscription). If you had an active subscription on September 13th, you will automatically become a VIP player and you will be able to log into our live servers and enjoy City of Heroes Freedom Head Start! This includes Issue 21: Convergence, the Paragon Rewards™ program and all of the services and items available through the Paragon Market™!

If you are not an active subscriber, you will not yet be able to play during Head Start. Please keep an eye on the City of Heroes Announcements page at http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=565 for updates on our plans for making City of Heroes Freedom available to all players.

    Regards
    Norris
    NCsoft Account Support

I don't really understand the answer. Does anyone else understand it? I feel like he didn't answer my concern but maybe I just don't understand it. Anyways, I ended up buying a month of game time the old fashioned way (with a credit-card) so that I could post this post and hopefully get some answers and also so that I could play CoH once again.

So I guess here are a couple of my questions:
    • Will I be able to use the VIP Starter Kit code on my existing account?
    • Now that I am VIP (because I purchased one month of playtime), will I get access to Going Rogue and then say I revert back to free/premium will I still have access to it?
    • Does anyone really understand the answer that I got from Norris?

And don't get me wrong, I'm not angry at anyone for this whole situation, I'm just curious if I wasted 14.99$ on a new account or if I will eventually be able to use the VIP starter Kit towards my original account.

Thanks a ton for your replies in advance and if you need anymore information I'll be stalking this forum post...

Invuln is tougher than SR. You can get near-equal defense numbers with much higher hitpoints and resists. Granted you have much less DDR.

SR is faster, but claws is fast to begin with.

And Invulnerability has a taunt aura. After the 9,853rd time the mob scatters from you right before you kill them, you will want a taunt aura.
I'm actually planning on taking something without a taunt aura, just something different from my usual tanker (my main).

Also, unless you're planning on farming from 1-50 in an afternoon, I feel like SR is more fun to level.
One thing that I am actually looking for is a cheap powerset also so this is good news to me.

Claws is great AoE. Spin is shockingly damaging, and is the fastest recharging PBAoE around. Eviscerate and Shockwave just make it sweeter.
Claws puts out solid single target DPS at high levels of recharge, and at low levels, its natural speed puts it near the top compared to other low-recharge chains.
Some people worry about SR's survivability, especially in the new content, but I've only died a handful of times in my run, and I've been at x8 since about level 30 (starting at -1, now at +2, could probably bump higher)
This build is quite literally "BEAST" like, if you know what I mean. Good single target, good AoE, nice mitigation. A simple character, but endlessly entertaining. And if you go this route, there's a good support system out there. I believe BillZBubba is the claws guru, and I've played this game for years, so if you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

    Good luck!

(P.S. If you would prefer a second option, Claws/Elec is also pretty sweet, Follow-Up+Damage Aura+Spin FTW!!!)
Thanks for the info, I was thinking about regen but i didn't want to be a Wolverine wannabe SR seems fun though, I think I will give it a shot.
  8. I am in the process of making my first scrapper and was wondering what it should be. I think I've nailed the Primary power set to either:
    • Spines
    • Claws
I was wondering if these would be good for a first time scrapper and also what Defence Sets would pair well with them and why. I am looking to do the following:
    • Good AoE
    • Good Single Target
    • Good Defenses/Resistance
    • All around fun build
    • BE A COMPLETE BEAST!
I would like to stay away from Fiery Aura, Dark Armour and Willpower because I already have those sets on other characters.

    Thanks

I might buy this, any thoughts on it? on how good the graphics card is for playing coh?
The memory (RAM) is a little bit low. Try for at least 4GB. 64-bit operating system is key due to the access to adding more memory if your motherboard is able to handle it. Also the video card in this system is quite low. It's very minimal on the scale compared to others. Look for a dedicated graphics card if your going to be playing PC games, preferably 1GB+. Like other users posted, almost any processors can run CoH now a days, just making sure that your shooting for a dual core or better. Try adding 200$ to your budget to achieve there standard to be able to run CoH on at least recommended settings without lag coming from your system. The system that you have posted will only be able to do minimal graphic settings...if that. Hope this helps!

EDIT: WOW IM LATE! I DIDNT EVEN READ THE WHOLE THREAD! YOU BOUGHT ONE ALREADY...GOOD!

    edit*
one more thing, I don't know if you know this, but Windows wont recognize more than 3.something GB of RAM unless you are using a 64 bit version.
3.5GB is the maximum if your running 32-bit even if you have 4GB, 6GB or even 8GB in your system.64-bit will run more.
  12. Hi I was just wondering why I cant update my CoH game. I opened the NCsoft launcher and it asked me if I wanted to update CoH. I clicked start immediately and it started. (It said that it already downloaded it and that it would install it. I then got an error message saying the following:

Access to the path 'C:\Program Files (x86)\NCsoft\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.exe' is denied.

Then I chose the repair option that it had and then it tried to repair but then I got this message:

Access to the path is denied.

This exact same thing happened when I tried updating from I18 to I19. The only way I could fix it then was to re-download and re-install the full game again. That took 4 hours. I don't have Going Rogue if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks, I hope this can be fixed.

All three powers are good with the default slot, with the added bonus that you can also use them to mule LotGs once you have some a-merits banked and you feel the need for some recharge.
Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I will change up my build a little bit to get those powers.
  16. I just wanted to post the newly made build for my FF/ARCH Defender. I was wondering if anyone else agrees with me in relation to this being a good build? I think it is, but what do I know... The focal points of this build are:
    • Cheap
    • Good Defences
    • Good Damage
    • Good Recovery (I found my old build to be END heavy)
    • Recharge is at 33.8% without hasten but this could easily be much much higher if you are willing to put more influence into the build.
The defences are (with toggles on, but not personal force field):
    • Smashing: 25.8%
    • Lethal: 25.8%
    • Fire: 25.8%
    • Cold: 25.8%
    • Energy: 35.8%
    • Negative: 35.8%
    • Psionic: 24.5%
    • Melee: 27%
    • Ranged: 32%
    • AoE: 27%
END recovery is 2.74/s and END consumption is 1.15/s without conserve power.

Once again, this build is focused around me having no influence.

  22. Just a quick question, I have a contact in Cimerora named Marcus Valerius and he keeps on giving me missions after missions. When I ask about missions he gives me two options always. His status is Confidant. I would love to finish his missions and get him off of my contact list. I've done about 7-10 of these little missions for him and was wondering when they are going to stop...

    Thanks

P.S. Is there a way to delete previous threads that I've created or can only moderators get rid of them.

Haha, I will take that into consideration for the future...

I was going to ask if anyone knew songs that are "Like" The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars (Hawaiian like songs such as I'm Yours, or songs that you would play while you are driving your topless Jeep down the beach in Hawaii)

I pretty much just asked my question right there.
  25. Is there a place to talk about stuff NOT related to CoH/CoV on the forum? I can't seem to find a spot for that kind of discussion.

    Thanks!
