But especially as a level four, I don't find it compelling to be sent to an opposite corner of the map for each mission, or to be sent to the opposite corners of different zones - that's just a nuisance, not good storytelling. I won't even get into not being given a phone number until mission #12 of a contact storyline. Stupid?! I guess so, at least over here. Mileage will vary.
You do realize they did some work on both of those with I17 right? They adjusted the low level contacts not to send you so far afield nor into territory higher than you should be traversing and contacts now give you their phone numbers a lot earlier (usually after one or two missions).

I didn't mind the old way, though. I'm weird, I like being sent around to see the city.

But I'm mostly Explorer, so being goal-less is part of the gig.

To be fair, that's not really true. Each time Lusca pops up, there's one tentacle far enough away from the head and the other tentacles that you can kill it off just like any other GM. So long as your team can kill a GM, you only need 1 team to fight Lusca.

Of course, it still takes a while.
That's how it was last time I did it. One team of eight. "Big ol' bag of HP" amount of time. Still fun, but then I'm kookoo for GMs.

The problem with COX's advertising is that it's all passive. You aren't going to find it at Gamestop unless you go looking for MMOs. You aren't going to find the website unless you specifically look for MMO sites. Basically, all of the "advertising" requires the user to be looking for the product in the first place.
How oddly like its comic book source material!

Bad_Influence will get CHILLS, I tell you:

My villains always have significantly MORE merits than my heroes do. Why is that?

As a villain, esp. a lowbie villain, I am pretty much soloing. Most of that soloing is running contact missions. I will happily run lowbie villain contacts due to their almost complete LACK of the following type of storyline:

*Hi. Go cross Atlas with no travel power and say hi to some idiot in the Hollows.

*Done with that? Cool. Run all the way back. Now go hunt some bimbo's lost bracelet two zones over. Still with no travel power.

*Mission accomplished? Great. Re-cross those zones and go talk to your contact again, because you can't phone it in.

*Are ya done? Excellent. Go see what's shakin' in Perez. Then run all the way back here....

....GAAAAH! Whereas redside, I have a concrete storyline which, while I have run it many times in the past, is at least less zone-y and less frivolous. As a result my heroes do not bother with contact storylines until Faultline, they go get the O-portal in Faultline and then keep studiously ignoring contact mishes until its time for Croatoa. This results in way fewer merits for blueside folks, at least until they begin seriously running task forces.

Meanwhile the villains studiously run every contact they can get their hands on, all the way through or until seriously outleveled.
Y'know what's really scary? There are others out there like me that dislike redside for exactly the same reason you like it. It's a rail, there's no variety, you go into a zone and stay there for five or ten levels, never to go back again. Bleh. Cohesive story be damned, this is MY story!!!

This is why this community is good. Within 11 minutes, this guy had 6 responses all telling him different ways to get to the same point. Then shortly after his second post, people had pictures up with detailed instructions on how to read IO's, all without a single bit of mockery, sarcasm, or idiocy. This is one of the things that keeps me around.
It's because he started off polite. Let someone start off acting like a jerk and the snark hose gets turned on immediately.
  15. I don't know that it's a majority, but it still gets plenty of use. Achiever types that are only interested in rewards have no interest, but there's still a lot that do.

Not quite. You have to target something, and start moving towards it, then go into first person and back out.

That will not reset it to perfectly straight and level. Some testing was done by Shadow Ravenwolf and Master Blade. They discovered the problem and the fix, above.
Both reset it horizontally though, and that's all I particularly care about (so I'm not running all crooked). I'm always looking around up and down, anyway.

With the search functions, it's pretty easy to guage how many are around and active compared to past betas, even if you factor in some people being invisible, especially if you're smart enough to try at different times. Plus the posts in the CB forums help.
The latter I'll give you. The rest is just guesswork.

It would be nice to have the text editor fixed as well so it isn't so frustrating to use, its not as bad as it once was but I find it still eats letters, bounces the cursor around and generally makes it more taxing then it should be.
Really? Is that common? I've never had any of that and I'm usually running really low end computers. Only problems I've ever had there was the "deletes blank lines" bug thing that was going around. Did they ever get that fixed? I've been scared to edit old ones for the longest time because I didn't want them "collapsing" on me.

    Johnny_Butane speculates wildly:

If this project was as big as they hyped, I'd hope by this point that pretty much everyone in the "waves" would be in, given the release date and their typical week of Open Beta(which given that this is an expansion and not an issue, should really be longer). I have a large enough sample of people who I know are and aren't in the beta at present to say that's not the case.
First, there's no certainty there will be an Open Beta. There apparently wasn't one for CoV, which this closest resembles.

Second, have you ever been in Closed Beta? The people that are in Closed Beta have no idea how many people are in Closed Beta, either. How would they tell? The same old "looking around, there doesn't seem to be anyone here" method? No, you don't know, and neither do they.

In other words, all I need to know at this point about the size of the CB is that it's 'not big enough' to support the hype and what people were expecting of GR.
Which you don't know, and you're making up your own marker as to what "not big enough" means.

    Quote:
Either it's going to be the most untested, bug-ridden release they've had yet or the expansion is way smalller than anyone expected, which isn't too far fetched given the announcement this thread is about.
I see no reason to assume either is true. Especially due to anecdotal evidence and you making up your own criteria.
  22. I'm only telling you what we've been told. We've been told of at least two more mapsets (which, I'm sure, can be reskinned in several different ways). There might be more, there might not be. It is what it is.
