    So, Demons?

Oh, I got it. I just used it to make another point.
  2. I've got a bots/FF build that honestly seems unbeatable, but somehow I feel like I'm still not using its full potential. For one, I can't take out an AV by myself (although, it depends on the AV). And second, I don't feel like I'm doing anything!

It was the first villain I built, and stacking force fields with the shields of the prot bots seemed like a no brainer. I haven't taken any attack powers. I just sit back and stand amidst my bots, watching them lay waste while everything fired towards me misses. I back groups into corners with the force bubble so that they can't run from the bonfire patches. I don't even use the single target bubbles anymore unless I'm having a little trouble.

What can I do to push this build over the top? I'm talking about power selection/strategy mostly. IO's are either obvious choices or stylistic preference.

    So, Demons?

Yeah, but see... we're man enough to not take it in the oppressive light. A game is a game to us.

There are no bad scrapper powersets, primary or secondary, and no bad scrapper powerset combinations.

    Except */Dark.

    So, Demons?

Bim, I totally agree with you, it's ridiculous. It's not you, or me, or most of the people who play the game that's the problem: It's society. Male slavery is ok, but female slavery is way over the top bad.
  6. I'm going to give this one more shot at getting noticed. I really want to get some feedback on these arcs. Am I doing these right? Are they fun?

Also, for anyone who does these, I'll run yours too! I will not only do your arcs, but I will give you detailed feedback.
  7. Earth? Really? ... Really?

And is grav that low? I just thought that singy was an extra controller. Doesn't that make a difference?
  8. I'd like to make a controller that is as close to pure control as possible. What sets are best for this?

Assume that I don't care about damage, survivability, buffs/debuffs. I want to be able to lock down everything in sight. True this will really only work in a team, but that's what a controller is for.

I'm thinking Grav/TA because the grav pet is basically another 'troller and TA seems to have a few extra control powers to add.

I was also told that the devs long ago said that there's a whole list of reasons why female mastermind pets would be a bad idea, from a theme and marketing standpoint. (Given how brainless some media people can be, I can just imagine the "OMG, MMO promotes female slavery!" articles. People got on national TV by making outright lies about Mass Effect, and when it was *proved* that they had no idea what they were talking about, the shows involved didn't even bother with a public "oops.") But I have no idea if that was on the forums, or whether that post still exists.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hope that's a joke. If not, it's incredibly sexist, are all of the male pets slaves? Gimme a break.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, it's not a joke, and yes, it is a bit sexist. It follows the same logic of why you can't have a "White Entertainment Channel." It's to be expected, the game wouldn't survive the flames, and I'd rather play it safe than piss a bunch of feminists off.

Although, when has your thug ever said "No, I don't feel like attacking him. I'll just stand here." aside from being mezzed? I also don't remember doling out infamy paychecks... Fits pretty close to slavery.
  10. WS for powers and cool animations.

PB for teaming because cosmic balance > absorption.
  11. I haven't played a tanker yet, but I had an idea that would work well with shield defense. (I can't just build a character to be the best at whatever, I have to have an original concept that will make it fun)

From the looks of things, and not to mention that there's no guide on it, Shield Defense looks pretty useless to a tanker in that it has no AoE taunt. Aside from taunt spamming, how can a SD tanker do his job?

And how is war mace as a secondary?

    EDIT:

I was looking here for my information, and I know how I missed it. Most of the other auras say "+taunt" so I was looking for that.
  12. So the ninja idea is pretty much way overused, so how about this:

Two sais. I make him green skinned, red bandana, red belt... you see where this is going... some type of padded armor...

Nahhh, I just can't do that.

I'm not looking for perfect historical accuracy, which I know will get me some grief. "You know, they didn't actually do that..." I just want it to look cool and be fun while trying to touch on a wide variety of styles. Also, I think of it this way: He's going to be "natural," but he'll still stand above the crowd. An excess in skill would allow him to discard the traditional requirement of a shield to engage in dual wielding combat.

I really like all the costume ideas, and if the knight costume pieces looked any better and there was a buckler, then I would be doing shields. I also really like the animations of the dual blades.

I love the Egyptian, and he looks great with double khopesh. That's one.

English duelist looks good too. Gives that elegant feel with the rapier and dagger or main gauche/droite. Still not sure exactly what to do with that. It'll let me act like the pompous stereotype as well. Two for sure. (I know, I know, I'm a culturally inept American fed by too much TV. Go on. Say it.)

The samurai/ninja... just doesn't feel original enough. I'm thinking some kind of martial artist with a pair of sai or katana/wakazashi/tanto. Slot three?

I'd like to have a barbaric looking one too, so either celtic or gladiator will fit in slot four.

I've got to have the futuristic one in here too. That brings me up to five.

The only questionable one here is my number three. Here's an alternate idea for that: Elf? Use the fantasy blades and be all woodland hero-y. Hey, it's as "natural origin" as the futuristic fighter.
  13. I'm making them! I've got two done and a 3rd in the works! Check them out if you have the time.

    They're pretty plot intensive though.
  14. Ever wanted to play both sides of the story? Now you can!

I'm looking for feedback on two of my arcs. I'd like someone to run the gamut on them. Tell me what's wrong with the story, the layouts, the details, the dialog. Nit pick at anything and everything. Grammar nazis, this means you!

In the first, a fellow hero requires your help recovering a stolen artifact. A bitter rivalry unfolds, pitting you against a ruthless corporation owned and operated by a technological mastermind. (Four missions, one EB, custom critters and some Crey)

In the second, the mastermind is looking to rebuild his corporation and exact a little revenge as well. Revenge becomes vendetta, and inadvertently creates a doomsday scenario! Concerted efforts towards humor in this arc's contact dialog. (Three short missions, no EB/AV, Malta, PPD, CoT)

There's a third arc in the works that continues the story, but this is all I have finished for now.

First arc is # 195202, and I'm not sure what the number is on the second, but it has 195202 in the description, so searching for one will find both (Although, I'd like it if someone posted the arc ID. I'm at work, so I'll fix this later tonight if not.).

I have a character that can solo just about anything, and I'm willing to critique arcs for anyone who's tried mine. Give me the ID# and let me know how harsh you want me to be. I rate stars more for effort, so if I can tell you tried, you'll get a 5, regardless of how I comment.

also possibly a Norse berserker (who historically wore shields for the most part, but they're crazy enough that some of them no doubt went without).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think I could pull off some kind viking look. I'd have a lot of fun with macros.

    [ QUOTE ]
The Samurai for the most part just used their katana, with the shorter wakizashi being a tool for Seppuku, but Musashi Miyamoto became famous for his dual wielding technique and he was quite successful with it indeed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes he is, and I know that the wakazashi goes in the right hand, and actually does all the work.

How about some kind of celtic warrior? I know he'd probably be better with an axe though...
  16. He does usually end up using gang war the instant he turns, so for a while it's chaos, but still absolutely no threat to the player. Even then, it makes even LESS sense because he's got thugs fighting thugs fighting him.

    [ QUOTE ]
Well OBVIOUSLY the pets are smarter than their boss and know who to back.

"Uh, boss, I don't think we should be fighting this guy...."
"Shut up and do as you're told, minion!"
"It's just that, he's probably gonna kick your butt, and then we'll go down with you, and..."
    "Nobody asked you! Attack!"
    "Ok, that's it, we quit."

    [/ QUOTE ]

That would make a good "defeated boss clue" in the right arc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know what... I think this would be doable. Thanks guys.

I'm still disappointed that it's not much of a fight.
  18. Yeah, but will that really make sense to the person playing the arc? They're supposed to be loyal minions. Think if it were robots: they can't reason, they just do as their told, but they'd still fight their mastermind.

I also want the fight to be a little more than a total own-fest. Right now it's "I'll show you who needs rescuing! I'm gonna-" dead.
  19. This is the DUMBEST THING EVER!

I have a mission where you 'rescue' a thugs mastermind, and as you lead him out, he turns on you. Problem is, for the betrayal to do anything, he has to be set to fight defensively or offensively. If you do that, he summons his pets as soon as he's rescued. Then when you lead him back and he betrays, THE PETS ARE STILL ON YOUR SIDE. You kick the crap out of him with the help of his pets.

What can I do about this? Other than changing him into a brute...
  20. For the curious ones out there, here's the ideas so far:

Egyptian: Either two khopesh, or a khopesh and a sheild with the eye of horus or something like that.

Samurai: I just got the vet reward costume pieces. Katana and wakazashi, but no real shield works with this one.

Ninja: Another one that doesn't work with shield, obviously using a ninja blade with tanto or a pair of sais. I really like it, I just feel that ninja is overused...

English Gentleman: Rapier and main gauche, complete with top hat and monocle. Again, no shield really works here.

French Musketeer: Would be same weapons as above, again no shield, but can't find a decent way to make the costume.

Knight: Easy and works with either shield or dual blades, but better with shield. I just don't like the medieval knight costume. Cape would make it better.

Angry Scotsman: One of my favorites, if only the kilts were plaid. Barbaric looking, flamberge and shield or ... I'm not sure for the dual blades.

Future Fighter: As was said before, tech sword and energy shield, or the unlockable talsorian blades.

Spartan/Roman: Spartan if I use a shield (He's not from Sparta if he doesn't.), Roman if it's two gladius (think Russel Crowe). This will be close to the last costume because of ITF being a requirement for the costume pieces and weapons. I know it's a roman costume, but they borrowed everything from the greeks anyway.
  21. So you're telling me, that for my controller, I have to get superior invisibility, group invisibility, hover, combat jumping, AND some other defensive power... I don't know what... If I want to max out the recharge bonus? Eeessh. Seems like a waste... would it be worth doing to make the phantom army permanent?
  22. I had what I think is a clever idea for a scrapper, although I'm sure this has been done before anyway. But I haven't seen it done, so I didn't steal it. I haven't ever built a scrapper before because I haven't ever thought of a character I could enjoy playing.

The idea of the character is to use the weapon customization along with multiple costumes to simulate sword fighters of as many eras as I can. I want to call him "Scraps of Time." I know, I know, corny and punny is a bad combination. Either way, since they are all natural fighters, the sets that stood out to me as best fit were broadsword, dual blades, shield defense, and willpower.

So there's three possibilities: BS/SD, BS/WP, and DB/WP. I'm leaning most towards DB/WP. I think it gives me the most fun options in character design. Is this a good powerset combination? Is it recommended for a first time scrapper?

This is just a general scrapper question: Do you usually pick up defensive or offensive powers first? Which ones get slot priority?
  23. Hey, I'm still relatively new to this invention thing, so I had some probably very simple questions.

Let's say you only have one defensive power. Can you five slot it with all Luck of the Gambler Global -Recharge? I know you wouldn't get the set bonuses, but could you still get all the -recharges?

In the case of LotG -Recharge and things like it (performance shifter chance for +end), what difference does a higher level IO make? Would a lower level one be more valuable so it still works at lower exemplar levels?
  24. Aren't void hunters just kheldians with quantum rifles?
  25. The best story I have is from a team setup with one tank, one defender, two blasters, two scrappers, and a controller (me). Everyone but the tank and healer were level 26, the tank was 28 and the defender was either 28 or 27.

We had just started a council mission that was the tanks and he bails on us. The defender follows suit, and with neither of the scrappers built to take damage, leaving a team of squishies to take care of +4 mobs. We could have given up, but I said "Hey, let's try something."

I proceeded to give instructions. "I'll summon phantom army, then pop the spectral terror. When the terror goes up, scraps start fighting. Then I'll use flash, which is the blasters' cue to unleash hell."

We followed the same routine throughout the mission and succeeded with no deaths. I'm not sure if this was something cool or just an illustration of what an illusion controller is capable of with hasten+accelerate metabolism.
