  2. The benefit is simply having KB instead of KD.

    KB allows you to:
-Reposition foes for better use of other AoEs.
-Knock melee foes away from squishy teammates.
-Knock ranged foes into melee where they use less powerful attacks.
-Increase mitigation. Time spent flying is time spent not attacking.
-Laugh as you watch mobs fly through the air.
  3. My thoughts on things like the in set rez: Rise of the Phoenix is amazing. It allows you to maintain aggro even though you're up against something that will defeat you..

Remember, tanking is not about survival. It's about holding aggro and keeping the team safe. RotP is an excellent tool for that.

At least in my mind, the tanker who is the last man standing has failed.

    Defense

I'm going to point you to my softcap guide (link in sig). It goes over many different cases of defense and has a probability analysis of each scenario.

One of DA's saving graces is the end drain resistance in Murky Cloud to the tune of 86.5%. The only thing draining my endurance is me.

Yeah, that tends to be the case. I managed to hold off the four AV's and Reichsman at once, as well as the four patrons in the STF. Those are tricky, and it's not always a guarantee that I can stay alive.

I can, however, stay alive long enough for the rez to recharge. The stun works wonders for holding aggro, even if the triangle keep them from getting dizzy.

What else tends to kill me is large mobs of defense debuffing enemies when I'm not paying attention and popping purples preemptively. In those cases, it's kind of nice to just let the debuffs disappear with defeat, stun the mob, and get back up.

Stealth does, Cloaking Device does, Hide does... Cloak of Darkness and Energy Cloak don't? Why is that?

Could you please check that again?
I can assure you that Cloak of Darkness's defense does not suppress when attacking.

I don't know why, but I can hazard a guess. Hide, Stealth and Cloaking Device are stealth powers that happen to provide defense. Cloak of Darkness is a defense power that happens to provide stealth. The primary purpose of the powers are different.

Notice that the defense values of Shadow Fall and Steamy Mist and Arctic Air don't suppress at all either, even though they provide stealth. Again, I think it's because they are protective powers that also give you some stealth.

I'd like to add to this little thread with my own anecdote:

In one Kahn TF, I told the entire team to focus on Reichsman and not worry about the other AVs.

Three of them were dead by sheer AoE splash damage by the time Reichsman dropped.

In theory you could do nice this with this power if you had a tank to hold the aggro but why go thru all that when you could just let the tank do his thing. With a bots mastermind I have seen it work well but thats due to body guard and the protector bot bubbles.
This is akin to the good stormy / bad stormy arguments. If the defender knows what he's doing, you can keep the enemies all together in the anchor debuffs.

It basically gives any ranged AT immunity to melee damage. On a team without melee, Force Bubble is insanely useful.

My suggestion is to learn how to use powers properly before judging their usefulness.

Honestly? When I'm running a non-Mo STF, I tell people to spread out and snipe the Chiefs as fast as humanly possible. All at once if we can. Aggro cap be damned, we're going to have fun.

    I like chaos.

Ok, there goes every last bit of your credibility.

Force Bubble is a downright game changing powerful ability. And not just for MMs.
  10. Don't all the epic pools for stalkers have a snipe power and a ranged attack?

Also, spines has a good bit of range and claws has focus.
  11. This thread was sparked by Bill Z's "Hide from searches?" thread, in which he cleverly asked participants to not describe why they do or do not hide. It made it easier for him to count and lessened the chance of threadjack.

I'm creating this thread so people have a chance to explain their choice.

As for me: I spend about 90% of my playtime on a team, but I hide from searches because I don't join PuG teams.

I form them. There's just too much drama out there and I like to run teams by my rules. I don't want to hear the empath whining because people won't "gather for buffs" or the tank crying about knockback. If you're on my team, you're having fun. If you don't like the way I run things, get lost. We're here to have fun. You play your way and let the other guys on the team play theirs.
  12. Scenario: Security Chief hunt during (Mo)STF.

Best to leave the boss for last, as he will trigger an ambush at 50% health.
  13. In my opinion, with the prevalence of defense bonuses (maneuvers/IOs), I find sonic resonance a very welcome addition to any team.

....Of course it does, that's not the exact build, because you should do at least SOME of the work yourself. Figure out what it's missing and fix it
I don't guard my personal builds like they're trade secrets, but I really like this. I should have done this when posting my tank's build. I guess, technically I have. I respec'd the power choice order recently to make it even more exemplar friendly.

When it comes to forum posts asking for good builds: I've never been one to just post a build when someone asks for a "good x/y" build. I will revise, edit, and improve for people. I will not create. Put some work into it yourself.

  17. I was hesitant to, but I eventually posted the build for the tank from my video.

I agree. You should have kept your fingers off the keyboard.

The statement "there's no one way to build a Warshade (and to a lesser extent, PBs)" is unique to this AT. You have to understand that the statement isn't claiming that there's only one build that's viable for the other ATs.

For example, while there are many ways to make an effective scrapper, at the end of the day, the build is still a scrapper. One may do more damage, one may be more survivable, but no matter how I build my scrapper, he is still a melee DPS character.

Warshades are in a different category entirely. One build can fill the role of a scrapper while another build focuses on aspects of a dominator. Yet another could focus on being a tank while still another builds much like a blaster.

I don't know how the reward system works but normal teaming works well enough for me.
It's simply because tanking builds are usually optimized for tanking and farming builds are optimized for farming. It's a much greater difference than just shaving a few seconds off of one map.

I'll give you an example. My Dark Armor tank's first build is made to be unstoppable. I haven't found a thing in the game I can't reliably tank. I have a mission I occasionally farm when I don't have enough time to run a Task Force. It's a freakshow mission I got at level 49 and I set for -1/x8 so I can fight -2s. I can use combustion and fire sword circle, then attack LTs until those are up again. It takes a while to kill an entire mob, despite being -2.

I made a second build that optimized for AoE damage and called it a scranker. In this build I picked up hasten, build up, and fireball. Just in those power picks I gained an AoE and reduced the recharge on my other two, and added the damage boost of buildup. I lose a ton of survivability, but I'm still tough enough that most content doesn't kill me. I make a decent off-tank even. But what used to take a minute of fighting on my farm map now takes a grand total of five clicks. Build up, combustion, fire sword circle, fireball, and one more combustion. Stuff is dead, move on.

tl;dr There is a drastic difference between tanking and farming builds.
  20. I wish the very best of luck to you in college. I'm sure you don't need to hear me say it, but I will anyway. Keep at the studies, that's the important part of your life right now. It did me well. Work hard and it'll pay off, trust me.

I'll try my hand at a tri-form guide when I find time. Maybe your next project (when you find time) should be the human form PB guide. That way we're not duplicating work.

    /bind lshift+lbutton powexecname teleport

Hold the shift down, and wherever you click, you teleport to. It's a button your pinky can hit so it doesn't tie up the rest of your hand.

I use this bind, and I would be encumbered greatly by your proposed system. As it stands, I can TP in the middle of whatever I'm doing. In combat, I TP once, so I'd go from pressing one button to two.

The only suggestion I have ever heard that would improve TP is to "break the immobilize/hover if you try to move."

Which is why I didn't list them as the exception. Fire/dark tankers get a heal more often with high recharge. All the recharge in the world wasn't going to let my DA tank solo +4/x8 Malta and Carnies. Defense, however, did.

With enough recharge, Warshades turn a situational power into 85% (!) resist all damage all the time, in addition to healing more often, stacking more mire damage and summoning more pets.

Warburg has the added benefit of being able to attack members of the same faction.

I think I stumbled across one of these one day by accident and didn't realize what it was. Just killed two stalkers that didn't seem to fight back and kept moving.
