Between the 2

I have 2 high level Tankers, im trying to decide on which one to turn into a farming build.

SD/Axe or a FA/FM?

Both have good points to them, and do a massive amount of damage with great survivability thus far with only SOs.

Im curious what kind of arguments could be placed agenst these 2 juggernauts of death and destruction on which would be a better farming build?

dual build on each... farm with both.

YMMV---IMO

Hmmm, thats prolly a very good Idea.

I could see the Fire/Fire being a decent purple farmer, lots of AoE and with decent recharge FE can be up quite often, allowing you mow through -1/x8 at extreme speed.

The Shield/Axe would be good pure inf/non-purple drops farming, since it can be softcapped easily and dish out lots of single target and aoe damage. +2-3/x8 wouldn't be much of a sweat for such a build.

You are correct on the assumption of the difficulty my SD/Axe Tanker can handle. However your very missguided with beliving -1/8 is the ideal level for my Fire/Fire handling.

It handles +2-3/8 like my SD/Axe does.

I don't think he was implying that your fire/fire couldn't handle +2-3/x8. Rather, I think he was saying that if you wanted to use it for what he was suggesting (farming for purples) setting to -1 would probably be the most efficient. Since purples all come in at 50 regardless of the level of the mob (as long as it's able to drop purples at all), setting to -1 wouldn't impact the type of drop you're looking for and would allow you to burn through mobs even faster.

This is what it means to be a tank!

I don't get why farming builds can't tank and tanking builds can't farm. 2 builds is a bit expensive to shave a few secs of some map. Plus farming is a bit lame in my opinion, not worth another build, teamed in a pug I have got purps within 3 mins of eachother. I don't know how the reward system works but normal teaming works well enough for me.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

To put a finer point on it.These 2 Tankers dont need IOs to Farm, and I wouldnt need to spend money on them. They are that good as is.

I know Farming is a bit lame, however id like to crank up a few other characters by farming with 1 of these 2 tankers, or both, depending on my mood....Burn'em?or Hack'em into lil pieces?

It's simply because tanking builds are usually optimized for tanking and farming builds are optimized for farming. It's a much greater difference than just shaving a few seconds off of one map.

I'll give you an example. My Dark Armor tank's first build is made to be unstoppable. I haven't found a thing in the game I can't reliably tank. I have a mission I occasionally farm when I don't have enough time to run a Task Force. It's a freakshow mission I got at level 49 and I set for -1/x8 so I can fight -2s. I can use combustion and fire sword circle, then attack LTs until those are up again. It takes a while to kill an entire mob, despite being -2.

I made a second build that optimized for AoE damage and called it a scranker. In this build I picked up hasten, build up, and fireball. Just in those power picks I gained an AoE and reduced the recharge on my other two, and added the damage boost of buildup. I lose a ton of survivability, but I'm still tough enough that most content doesn't kill me. I make a decent off-tank even. But what used to take a minute of fighting on my farm map now takes a grand total of five clicks. Build up, combustion, fire sword circle, fireball, and one more combustion. Stuff is dead, move on.

tl;dr There is a drastic difference between tanking and farming builds.

I would recommend FA/FM, because: 1) no risk of damage from fire-using opponents, so you can focus your farming; 2) fire isn't resisted as heavily as lethal; 3) fire has good AOEs; 4) fire has both Build-Up and Fiery Embrace; and 5) FA has both a heal and an endurance power. FA/FM is a low-cost, high-upside farming build.
