Yeah, I have to admit, this is one of my favorite things about the game. No matter what, I wouldn't want anything to push us into a realm where the MMO trinity becomes holy again.

I'd just like to see some smarter enemies. Mag 100 hold DoTs don't count as challenge. Give me something I have to react to, not something I need to pray doesn't hit me or have ten stacks of clarity/thaw/clear mind for.

If the tank or scrapper or even the blaster has to target a specific minion/LT/boss because that minion/LT/boss is going to aim right for the buffer keeping everyone alive, that's challenge. That's keeping us on our toes.

Hey, I did include my "if I recall correctly" disclaimer!

But seriously, thanks for adding the information and checking numbers for me.

    Super Strength

I guess I just don't understand how you'd want more. Honestly, I can't play SS for very long as I start to get headaches. Every attack does the shaking, and the sound eventually stops being awesome and starts being grating.

I mean, what more can you do to make the set feel like "super" strength that isn't adding more of the same? Honestly, I'd like it if all the attacks did knockback. That would make me feel strong as hell.

    Super Strength

It feels pretty damned super strengthy to me. When I punch someone in the face, it does the same damage as the guy swinging a flaming sword. Also, everything I do makes the whole universe shake, apparently. And the sound! My $deity the SOUND! Anything with those sounds has to be strong.

    What more do you want?
  5. I will certainly have to look at this when I get home. I've never really paid attention that far down the combat attributes list. I'll reply with an update when I can.

Don't forget that you also have Supremacy, which accounts for 10% bonus to hit and is, if I recall correctly, even stronger than tactics.

I put a third purple enhancement in it so I could get the bonus HP (or the regen, can't remember right now which set bonus comes first). My Assbot has the other three, which includes the build up proc so I get the +HP and regen twice. The +HP is very nice for masterminds, and the fact that you can get the largest possible bonus twice is somewhat unique to MMs. Considering how "cheap" this purple set is, I'm surprised it's not a more common slotting for Masterminds.
  7. Well, his poor eyesight certainly explains why he can't ever hit my Dark Armor tank.
  8. Thanks for the discussion, everyone. A lot of good ideas in this thread, and mine is certainly not one of them. Although it may be easy to add taunt effects to buffs, I strongly believe now that the overall effect would be bad.

I particularly like the idea of having some smart enemies. It'd be nice to have to worry about, for instance, particular mezzing minions or LTs that target support type characters, at least until a substantial amount of aggro has been and stays accumulated elsewhere.

The next best thing is the random change up. Enemy is aggro'd on the tank, but then randomly says "Oh, I'll hit guy number three on my list once." This is cool and interesting, but ... somewhat problematic. Since it's random, even a good team will fall victim to it. It doesn't require skill if it's all luck.

Maybe we just need some enemies that are resistant to taunt? I don't think it would be a good idea for the entire faction to be resistant, but a few minion/LTs might be healthy. It would present a challenge, but not an insurmountable one.

  10. I ... I think I remember that run.
  11. Holy Space Squids, Batman! That last section on slotting tips took me forever to finish, fellas, and I apologize for that. I can only hope it was worth the wait.
  12. The final installment, which goes into excrusiating detail on how to build a warshade, has been added. I consider the guide "complete," now.

This isn't to say I won't keep it updated. As things change, so will the guide. I'll also revise it as needed if I find clarification is needed on any subject.

Indeed it is. But they both fall behind Dark.
  14. The idea isn't "smart enough to ignore a tanker completely," but enough that buffs register as a threat.

It should make the tanker work for his aggro. Not make him worthless.
  15. We all know that buffs and debuffs are extremely powerful in this game. The only problem is, the enemies don't seem to notice. Clearly, smart enemies would attack the force field defender first, most notably because he has the least defense. Think about an ITF - we all know to hit the surgeons to make it easier to take out the Elite Bosses. The problem is, the way aggro is calculated, there's no way for the enemy to figure that out.

So here's my question: what if player targeted or PBAoE buffs also had a taunt component?

First, I realize it's way too radical of a change to ever get implemented. This is all rhetorical and pretendy fun time games.

Just think about it for a moment. What would it actually do? The empathy defender uses Heal Other on a player, which creates a gauntlet like taunt to five enemies within a radius of that player. PBAoE buffs, like Accelerate Metabolism or Mind Link taunt any enemy in radius of the heal. Toggle powers like Dispersion Bubble, even the one FFG produces, become slight taunt auras.

I think this would produce an effect of seemingly smarter enemies. Suddenly the real threats become easier to see. "Hey, I'm not going to kill anyone while that FFG is giving the team softcapped defenses." It may force us to play smarter, or make good tanks more valuable.

    What do you think?
  16. I like the build and I think it really opens up some opportunities to not have to concentrate so much on defense. Your endurance usage is nothing to worry about. Including the two +end procs, your net recovery was starting at 2.9 end/sec. If you can drain that much by attacking and using conserve power, then I don't know what powers you're using.

Anyway, I played with it a bit. Moved a few slots around, and gave you a level 49 power: Build Up. Even without slotting, it's great sometimes when you start getting tohit debuffs. Hasten and Conserve power really don't gain much from the third recharge reduction, so I put those slots elsewhere. Cloak of Darkness was way underslotted, so I filled that out, got you some more regen and an accuracy bonus. I changed one of the Death Shroud endurance reductions to a DMG/END. The endurance cost doesn't really change much, but now the damage is close to ED cap. The defense bonus from BotZ isn't really worth much; I had it in my build for the last bit of energy defense I needed. I added that slot to Taunt, switched the set and got you another max endurance bonus. I also don't think OG needs three full hamio slots, so I put that one in Seismic Smash for the Mako quad. Finally, you needed some more KB protection, so I threw a BotZ in Super Jump. KB protection needs to be 12, since 8 doesn't protect you from anything that 4 can't.

One more thing: Switching one of the common end mod IOs in Stamina and PP to a Performance Shifter End Mod doesn't lose anything, but you gain a movement bonus.

    Check it out:

    Good luck.
This is what I'm getting at. Teach a man to fish, and all that.
  18. Drum roll please.

(Actually, I'm just going to find my build that's posted in my Dark Armor Sucks thread and link it. I just need a few minutes.)

EDIT: Wow, my thread got buried pretty far back. Anyway, here's where I posted my build. It's a little outdated and it is /Fire Melee, but you should be able to tweak it without problem to fit your needs. Put something together and post it. I'll help you optimize from there.

Also, just scan through that thread. There's some garbage in there, but a lot of good information about Dark Armor as well.

    SS/Dark

With the exception of the patron pool... wow, that looks familiar. And pretty good to boot.

I don't have mids on me while I'm at work, but it looks like you should have some great survivability with that build. I would drop hasten, but I don't like hasten to begin with, so I might be biased. If you need some more S/L defense, a great place to grab it would be Rectified Reticule thrown in rage. Only needs two slots.

You could throw a Zephyr KB protection in super jump and free up one of the steadfast slots for one of your attacks. Another option would be to put the winter's gift slow resistance there.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, it probably sucks.

Just want to pull this out to say "no one cares."

Seriously, no one is going to make fun of you, even if you post an absolutely horrid build. If anyone does, the rest of us would certainly jump on him.

In general, though, you get a lot more help out of people when you put effort into it first. I don't really hand out any sort of build, but I'm not going to hold back advice, as you saw in my first post. If you post a build, I'll tell you how I think you can improve it. I'm not going to give you a build. I think most of the people who can help you follow this same philosophy.
  21. You need pretty much all of them except Grant Cover, unless you want defense debuff reduction. Which you should.

SO build is easy. ED cap your defense powers. Slot at least one end reduction in every toggle, two in every attack. Deflection could use some resist if you get extra slots. Enhance True Grit with heal and resistance if you can afford the slots. Slot Shield Charge with one accuracy, two damage, and three recharge. Be sure to grab Weave and Combat Jumping. Maneuvers will help too, but may not be worth the endurance.
  22. Very well done guide, seebs. I especially like how you called /devices a primary and justified yourself in doing so.

You've turned into quite the contributor around here in a few short months of playing the game. For what it's worth, I'm impressed.

The word you're looking for here is "worst."

Please, go back and realize that this has already been pointed out. Also note that my join date is as old as yours. I was around then; I had dark armor then.

I stated that I made the mistake of ignoring everything prior to the GDN and ED. Back then, all armor toggles were exclusive (that means you can only turn on one at a time), including Stone Armor. Back then, instant healing was a toggle. Back then, Unyielding and Rooted actually immobilized you. Back then, you could herd an entire map into a dumpster and have one blaster nuke everything to death. Back then, SR was utter garbage for a set. Back then, Moment of Glory actually reduced your survivability. I think it's very reasonable to ignore anything before that point in time, thanks to the broken nature of the entire game in that state.
