As someone who's done both writing and code development, I'll take code development over writing every time. It's not an easy job, but it's a doable job that you can figure out and work through. Writing is NOT an easy job and, contrary to what some writers may try to suggest, is never anything that can be understood and replicated free-hand. And that's just on the level of inspiration and linear writing. Once you start trying to keep a continuity together while you inject stories at different points along the line and trying to keep an interlocking world of interconnected events making sense without turning it into this... That takes skill, talent and possibly a lot of luck.
And while City of Heroes has often made me question whether an actual EDITOR ever looked at the game's stories, let alone a professional writer, I do know they had and have writers on stuff for just this exact reason. One only hopes they're too busy working on Going Rogue to bother with City of Heroes and City of Villains at this time.

My alternate goal is to get in as a Tech Writer - the person who writes Paragon Studios' policies, documentation, work procedures, etc - more of an IT/business practices than gaming thing, but I've got almost 15 years' experience doing that.
And no, it's NOT easy. How often do players go, "Oh CHRIST that arc was lousy! It's overpowered/underpowered/boring/too involved/all over the map/not enough dialogue/too much dialogue/etc etc etc"?Quote:Originally Posted by EU_Damz

I've run it about a half dozen times now (redside Justice), and having debuff along helps a lot. My bots/dark MM was there primarily for that (as at the time, the MM power for taking him down wasn't working). I threw every debuffing temp power at him I could manage (including Ace of Spades, which is a GODSEND), and we took Reichsman down in no time flat.
As for managing the wall-to-wall 5th Column, our personal tactic (my friends and I) is to have 1 person pull them, while the other 7 of us are waaaaaay off in the bottom righthand corner of the map, in the dead end area. Person 1 usually gets killed, but we Recall Friend him to us, rez him, and by the time he's up and ready to go, the Column is on its way. They can't come up behind us, and it's a narrow defile to get into the dead end. Tar Patch, Glue Arrow, Caltrops, Mines, whatever... and we just hammer away at them.
Other favored tactic - anyone who has Nectar (or any other Confuse power) gets close enough to toss it in at the mob o' Fifth and we watch them tear themselves apart.

Super-obscure, and little more than a curious bug, but - the small site office-turned-squat in the Mercy Isle Factory map. Jump or fly into the ceiling, and you'll find yourself emerging from a pool of water. You might even notice a fragment of war wall. As my wife put it, looks like they really need to get their air conditioning looked at.

I'll also add my voice to the chorus of greeters, and good for you that you're doing some planning now on how to enjoy the content in the game. There is a lot of it, and some fantastic storylines. And as others have said, if you outlevel something, there's always Ouroboros after you ding 25.

My favorite was a team I was on exiting a mission in Independence Port that was, for whatever reason, RIGHT NEXT to where Lusca decided to spawn while we were in the mission. We get done with the mish, la la la, we exit, KA-SMACK! We all just lay there for about five minutes going, "Um..." as Lusca is growling or rumbling or whatever the hell that noise Lusca makes is.
Then over the team chat:
"Was that there when we went in?"
"No, I think we'd have noticed."
"'Kay, just checking."
