Quote:There are two ways to express a probability, as a percentage or as a decimal. They both represent the same value but it's confusing to mix their usage in the same context.er....percentages are decimals.....*skulks back to non euclidean shadows
Percents are best left to expressing percentiles, anyway. -
Because if you stay logged into the forum of a 3rd-tier MMO (1st-tier superhero MMO) for longer than 8 hours you'll be the victim of identity theft.

Mostly a bunch of the same old questions and answers. Will people ever take the hint? (Answer: no.) Love all the armchair programmers, I too often wonder why the devs don't just add more code to fix things.
However...
Quote:......what the hell even is this questionCameron Kay: How does Manticore deal with his inability to see dogs in his day to day life? I know it's caused his embarrassment before (I.E.: Not being able to see someone's fancy new dog hat. As well as being attacked by the pack of stray dogs) But has it ever caused any other issues?
EDIT: Your transcription is appreciated regardless, Kheldarn. Occasionally there's at least one or two interesting tidbits. -

Gonna go out on a limb here and wager no. The devs aren't going to actively encourage what they consider aberrant behavior no matter how "easy" it already is.

Quote:Your mixing of percentages and decimals so freely makes my teeth gnash and my blood boil.Once you get above the threads level in a trial you have the exact same percentage each time to get a VR> The way calculating a streak works is by multiplying each success by that percentage again. I am unsure what the percentage is for a VR. If it is 5% then your chance of getting 1 is 5%, 2 in a row is (.05x(.05)) = .25% , and the 3rd would be .0125% So, a little more than once in 10,000 times. But I am guessing at the 5% for a VR. Anybody got the skinny? Oh, and gratz. And as was mentioned above, that one Trial will change the equation a lot.

Quote:It's not even written as well as most comic books, frankly. (Well, maybe more than most these days, but that's no great accomplishment.) The stories are hokey and obvious. Most of the time character motivations don't actually make sense in any reality that I'm aware of. A good 90% of the characters are Mary Sues with personalities so thin they make a paper bag look complex and sophisticated.Ach. Really? Wow. My global is Snarky and I bow before this statement. None of the writing is good? Ghost Widow's story and dozens of others are incredibly good. The entire Ouroboros metaplot, and Nemesis is/is not behind everything. Seriously. Back off just a tad on that?
None of this actually matters to me though. I don't play to read. I play to play. A story that isn't completely moronic is really all I require (I do have some standards). -
What I assume is your real name is in that last logfile thrice, under the machine summaries, you may wish to edit that out if you're concerned about such things (although based on your forum name, perhaps you aren't).

To be honest, I'd be pretty satisfied with those badges just going away. It's the same problem as the old Veteran Badges -- a theoretically infinite series of badges, which means unless you've been subbed since Day 1 you'll always be behind. Imagine if the damage/mez/influence/etc Achievement badges worked like this. Oh, so you finally earned 1 billion influence? Congrats! Now try for 2 billion. Done with that one? Give 5 billion a shot. How about 10 billion after that? 20? 50?

Quote:Slot Soul Transfer for Stun, you'll have plenty of time to get them back up.I have a Dark Armor brute with Assault, Tactics, and Tough. Altogether he has 10 toggles, one full tray of 'em, and I run them all. Needless to say I don't use powers that detoggle everything.

Quote:Like I said before, none of the storytelling in City of Heroes is particularly unique, imaginative or even good, so I don't know why you'd have issues with this one particular instance.TPN is relatively easy, but easy =/= quality - but once on a league which is well guided, it's not difficult.
However, it is unimaginative and got some nasty cheat mechanics - well you probably know my opinion on some of it but in terms of story it's pretty dreadful and comes way down in terms of quality compared to some of the other trials.
And really, Lambda and BAF have better stories than TPN, really? They barely even have stories, there's a little set-up and that's it, at least TPN has actual plot progression within the trial. -

To be fair Forbin, a good chunk of those sets don't have any toggles.

Quote:LRSF: Unless your team can somehow manage to pull off zerg-rushing the Phalanx, you're going to need to employ some manner of specialized tactics in order to succeed, and it took people a while to figure out what the best tactics were. The thing is, I do not need to run through any normal mission once or twice in order to learn the "tricks" necessary for completing it successfully. Most TFs don't require it either.
STF: Same issue with Recluse's Inner Circle, and dealing with Recluse and his towers.
ITF: The final battle with Romulus used to wreak havoc on teams after this TF came out, thanks in no small part to the healing Nictus.
5TF: This may count as an exception rather than a rule just because it was designed to require specific tactics, but it's certainly not a new thing.
Hamidon Raid: Your league has no chance if you don't handle the raid properly. This content has been in the game forever and people still manage to screw it up.
RWZ Raid: Same scenario.
Abandoned Sewers Trial: More tactics, you have to coordinate taking out the FFGs very carefully.
Cathedral of Pain: Same as the AST, coordinating the Resonators and Willforges (inside and out) can be very difficult, and you're given the same trial information window here as you are with Incarnate trials.
How many of these tricks did people know in advance when the content came out? How many first runs of these TFs/trials failed miserably because nobody knew what to do? How long did it take before people stopped calling them completely unfair? And did any of these tasks get a full guide released in the patch notes?
The game has always operated like this, the only difference is that the devs have stepped it up a level or two (or three). -
Pre-EDIT: Honestly if you're not even going to read my posts maybe I just won't bother.

...They don't support their own slash command? What?

Quote:Because the Options menu is filled with them also, and I think they appear elsewhere but I can't think of any specific examples. And you've given me another good example. Why did I not know this? How is it similar to anything I have done in this game before?

Quote:Yes, all of which are usable in-game.Which items are you referring to? AFAIK, all in-game items purchased are tied to that person's account, right?
eesh.
Quote:Would you have any idea then how Paragon could make more money and get more people involved? (Genuinely curious, haven't seen such a thread by anyone) 'Cause if NCSoft doesn't like the numbers (which Posi's recent statement of 'success' lacked entirely) CoH is putting out, then Lineage (the original)'s fate (over here anyways) is what we'll see here. -
I know the SG you're talking about because I used to have a character in it, but not anymore, and I've forgotten the name. Something with "League" in the name, I want to say.
NIGHTOFIRONSTAR became KNIGHTOFIRONSTAR, then he left the server (and the less said about that, the better).
PinnBadges is the more active of the two global channels you mentioned, mostly just because it has more idle conversation. Some other tidbits: Talsorian Guard is currently holding weekly RWZ raids on Sunday nights, I believe at 8-9ish PM EST. As for Incarnate trials, those are generally formed in RWZ here on Pinnacle. BAF and Lambda, of course, get run the most often, with the occasional Speed Lambda (SLam), but Keyes gets run more frequently now since the changes, along with TPN and sometimes Minds of Mayhem (Underground gets run infrequently but it has been known to happen). -
Quote:You're right, my mistake (6:40 AM is not my best time). However, Paragon Points are still exchanged for in-game items, so my point still stands.1. The proposal would exchange for PARAGON POINTS, NOT INFLUENCE.

Quote:If anyone told you that SR is "uber" right from the get-go then that person is an idiot. In the late game and endgame though, it's a beast, especially when you get it IO'd. Meanwhile, my Dark/Dark Brute languishes at level 46, as I've been unable to develop a playable build for him. I've tried really hard but I just can't manage to enjoy playing him for more than short bursts of time when I'm just chewing the hell out of every enemy that dares come near me (then I die). Why did I not like SR? After using WP, Inv, and Shield with my Brutes and Tankers, I quickly soured on SR. Let's just say my experience with the performance of SR did not meet my expectations I was originally told to expect when I first started. Everyone has a power set the do not like or want to use again, for me it is Super Reflexes.
YMMV. -
Quote:Already in game. Click the question mark on the trial window for more information on the current task.Make the necessary notes available as a drop down (like with mission contact mission dialogue) so gamers can just click and read while in game. I mean, throw us a danged bone.
You're welcome.
