No, the VidiotMaps map pack shouldn't be causing you any trouble in CoH, I suspect you'd be hearing a lot about it if it were. CoH also won't let you launch if you directly modify the game files, but that's not quite what the VidiotMaps pack does. It certainly couldn't hurt to try uninstalling it and see what happens, though. -

Shards are old news. You don't even really need them since Alpha stuff can be crafted with Threads nowadays (although I personally find Shards to be easier).
Shards don't drop in the trials either. -
Yeah the soundscape was enhanced a few years ago, Issue 15 according to the wiki.

It's not an aura, those are separate costume pieces called Ascension Radiance, and you can only get them from the Empyrean vendor (not sure why you're not seeing them, are you sure you're at Michael and not Christy?).

Yeah the Market works fine for me (shame nothing else is at the moment...) so I was wrong on that.
I agree with TJ though, you definitely want to free up some space if you're at or below 10%. Defrag needs at least 15% free to run (and you definitely want to run this on a regular basis), and you may want to try shooting for higher than that if you have any especially large files hanging around (HD video, for instance). -
Game servers just went kerblooey, assuming this wasn't happening to you earlier than an hour ago that might be it.

Seems to be across all servers, although I haven't tested this. Pinnacle is being reported as down so naturally I can't get on there. I was able to get a char list on Defiant, but trying to log into a character got me this message: "No launchers are running, new maps cannot be started!" then kicked back out to the login page.

It is vBulletin's fault, the problem I believe is that the forum is running on an outdated version of the software (2009 from the looks of it), evidently the most recent version works fine.
Which of course raises the question of why they don't upgrade, but I suppose that would cost too much.

It's the inverse of that; he's a terrorist first, and since there is a correlation between terrorists and the middle east, the association follows through. As to whether or not it is a bad idea, Achmed the dead terrorist and all of his popularity say no, it is not a bad idea. Especially when done comically.
That said, it honestly would not surprise me if you got generic'd for the Admiral Ackbar part over the terrorist part, just since that's a lot more clear-cut and people have been generic'd for less flagrant violations. -

Yes. Since they can fix every account individually, it's a matter of automating the individual fix.
Let me repeat that: They can fix all the account issues individually, and do so when the individual petitions. The extension of that is they can fix everything by automation. That's not to say it'd be easy, but yes. They can do it. They have not. Almost six months later. -

Haven't read beyond the first post because, well, I don't want "spoilerz". But is there any way a spoiler-free version of the list can be constructed? I'd like to know what I'm getting into to some degree, although I suppose that could be problematic if there are spoilers in the actual badge names as opposed to just the badge text (which would be idiotic if that were the case).

First off: worst portmanteau ever.
I don't see Praetorian population rising any higher than it is now, certainly not back up to "new shiny" levels. Praetoria as a starting zone served a three-fold purpose: to move the story forward (as a lead-up to the invasion/war), to give players a new setting to base characters on (concept/RP), and to provide a fresh and new intro gameplay experience (as opposed to playing fetch for Azuria and pest control on Mercy Island). The first one is no longer relevant as we've moved forward in the story since then, and the third one is no longer relevant because we have newer early-game content on both sides. That leaves creating Praetorians for concept/RP purposes, which is a small enough niche that the devs aren't likely to make great efforts to continue supporting it.
Also, it was a ghost town even before Freedom launched. Maybe you'd see a slight uptick in opening it to free/premiums, but it would fade just as it did when it was new and you still had to sub in order to play the game at all.
