  1. Dark One

    DCnU [Spoilers!]

Upon examination of the picture, it doesn't even look like it's part of the shirt. It looks like it snaps on or otherwise attaches to the top. It would pretty much have to, wouldn't it? Since the neckline is right up against her throat. Unless all those lines indicate a modular uniform, which I don't know if that's better or worse.

  2. Swear to doG, I'd have an easier time finding the frickin' Ark of the Covenant than I would finding volumes 26, 27, 43, and 44 of Urusei Yatsura. They just aren't out there. It's like those four volumes were shortpacked in the production line. I can find virtually every other volume (excepting Beautiful Dreamer) without any hassle whatsoever.

Still. Her new costume blows. Especially the cape.
I think Empowered said it best when it comes to females and the half-cape dealie.

The cape isn't there for the purpose of a cape. It's there to hide their butts.

That girl needs some moisturizer, STAT!

Edit - As to Supergirl, didn't one of the bigwigs say he never wanted to see Supergirl's panties again? Yet they put her into a leotard. Not really seeing a whole lot of distinction there in the outcome of the costume.
  5. Link.

It's a good show and I like it, but honestly thought SyFy wouldn't renew it. It just seems too...different...I guess, for them to invest in a second season when they could throw on more wrestling or another reality crapfest.

This was a first. I just saw a commercial on tv for the new comics. I can't recall ever actually seeing such a thing before.

Having access to Navy corpsmen who know a thing or two about modern medicine isn't a bad thing, either.
The corpsmen would need some knowledge on how to go about producing antibiotics and meds once their initial supply runs out. It's not really all that difficult once you learn how. I mean, one of my ChemII lab assignments in college was to produce aspirin (or acetominophin or whatever, it was equivalent to aspirin) within a 3 hour lab time. It wasn't tough, but you needed to know the stuff to go about it.
  10. I would start out wanting to be "heroic", but then, I would succumb to the inevitable temptation of supervillany. Because supervillians get the girl(s). Just look at the Monarch. Do you think he could've gotten the missus (though granted, I'm still looking for surgical scars...) if he had just been some schmuck without the flying cocoon?

Not to say that the base chapel didnt have plenty of people in it during services, but I never had a soldier stress much about any form of religion versus sitting in my hut and crying about missing their kids, wife or parents.

Even then, morale affects every individual differently, not as a mass negative combat multiplier. Some show signs of distress within ten minutes of the plane going wheels up while it may take months for bad morale to affect others. With most, you can trust that their training will take over and keep them driving on.
Right wing, left wing, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, whatever, at the end of the day they are Marines above all else. Fought together, bled together, lived together. They may not always get along, but at the end of the day, they'll have each other's backs.

Edit - And they'll get the job done whilst making it look so easy a Navy guy could've done it.

I don't think you'd see a rash of suicides at all, not untill they truely thought they were stuck there.

Sounds more like the writer coming up with various ways to make it not look so one sided, rather than going by how it would really happen.

Which isnt bad mind you, it probably makes for a better story. Just I doubt it would happen.
The food and water thing is a definite possibility. But it also cuts both ways. The Marines wouldn't (probably) be immune to the various bugs and nasties that could be found in the local food supply, because let's face it, hygiene wasn't a very strong suit in that era. The locals would also not have immunity to the bugs that the Marines would invariably carry.

However, tipping point would probably go to the Marine medics and docs as they would have some knowledge on how to go about treating food poisoning and the like.

The fiction writer is correct that there'll be a rash of suicides in the Marine camp.
Conversely, the Marines could end up fighting all the harder, because hey, what have they got to lose? If they're never going home then there's nothing holding them back from trying really crazy plans.

Whereas the Romans are fighting for their families, true, but they also want to get home again. Meaning they aren't, essentially, an animal backed into a corner.

There are some f-bombs dropped, won't deny that, but at the given situation, I'd say it's okay (and I've worked and been around enough high schoolers to know that a lot of them cuss like sailors). I disagree about his impression about nurse Marikawa, her voice doesn't come off as high pitched to me.

I have my grumbles about the series and certain liberties MadHouse took, but overall it's a pretty solid telling of the first half of the manga.

Probably going to rewatch the series again on my next day off as I've only been watching it at work >.>
Have you read the manga of HOTD? Ya...the bit about the bathing episode? That's not something that was added to the anime out of thin air. Let's put it this way...the manga comes shrinkwrapped...

(Though I can't say for sure, I've not watched the anime. Just going by that guy's review.)

So the final status quo for Batman in the old DCU was that he might have been an urban legend up until the time that the Justice League was founded, but he certainly couldn't have been afterward.
Well, there was the whole bit in Gotham City Sirens about Selina telling Ivy & Harley that the Batman persona was a mantle taken up by multiple people. Basically, Bats is not just one person, but a whole bunch of guys. It takes on the mythological factor and that ANYONE could be Bats. Granted, it was a sop put in by Talia to prevent Selina from spilling the beans about Bruce, if she was ever put into a position that the information could be forcibly removed from her.

It would certainly fit the MO that Batman could be anywhere at any time.

Also, C-3PO needs to wear a top hat and monocle. In fact, monocles for everyone!

    Ya...thought so.
  18. You need a few things to make a Renaissance person. Adaptability, curiosity, openmindedness, literacy, and an eye for details, IMO. Beyond that, it's pretty much whatever they are interested in. Offer them several things, such as what you mentioned (biology, music, engineering, etc) and let them pick whatever floats their boat.

I wouldn't even say they'd need to know basic math necessarily, since things may be instinctive to them. Take catching a baseball for instance. Most people can at least get in the vicinity of the area to catch the ball without even really thinking about it. But try to get those same people to do the vector math required to determine where and when they need to be to catch it, and they'd be stumped.

Funny, considering Star Wars will never, ever, ever, be allowed to enter the Public Domain. Much like essentially everything else that can make money.
  21. Did you try it without the tangerine drink packets? I ask because that stuff is pretty hard to find and/or fairly expensive when found. Maybe add a bit more regular tangerine juice in exchange.

Oh, and I managed to find a group of 4 neon food colors at Wal-mart the other night. Included was neon green, so that might take the place of that previously linked gel coloring thingie.
  22. Nah Chris. I hadn't even considered the possibility that this may or may not be "real" before the Troy mentioned it. I was thinking something along the lines of Sucker Punch.

Good point. The entire story could be Eve in a psych ward and her imagining everything as an escape. She could even have been involuntarily committed for something.

Like say, that fire. How she rescued those people? Maybe that is her trying to dissociate from accidently starting the fire and killing them in "reality" when she was a kid or a teen. A bit of a dark turn, I know, but not completely unreasonable.

It almost felt like she wasn't even really "alive" in her world. Just that she was there, but on the outside looking in. It felt like that once her mother passes on, her ties to reality, so to speak, would be pretty much severed. That's why I liked it when she met up with the other guys at that convention. But even that would probably not be enough to pull her back from the edge. If anything, it would probably push her over.

Did you ever disclose what it was that she was taking the medication for?

I agree about the bag. If I had a guess, I'd say they'll refer to the bag as belonging to Joe Oriolo, who updated Felix the Cat in 1953 and gave him his "magic bag of tricks".
I was thinking it would be Dr. Henry Killinger's Magic Murder Bag.
