Black Pebble,
Thanks for returning to the forum. I think many of us thought we might have scared you away for good. I'm sure you're going to get inundated again but for now, I'll just say thank you very much for addressing the concerns of the EU community. Although it's frustrating not knowing what the future holds for us, I am very grateful to know that there is something going on behind the scenes. -
As an advert for the game, the UK website does look about six years old.
So if it brings more people in, I'm all for it having a makeover. -
Quote:I think those are really the extremes but in all honesty, it doesn't really matter. As has been said earlier: a bad player is a bad player and either will mess up RP given half a chance. Just because someone has no 'superpowers' e.g. Batman, it doesn't mean they're immune from god-modding. Bruce Wayne for example has such monetary power, he could make a few phonecalls and make sure that you never eat baked beans again. That's my point. Half the people in this thread are in favor of Phenomenal Cosmic Power, the other half are all "I'm Batman, so GTFO!"
And two people playing their version of Ultimate Natural Detective Man will be just as bad as two demi-gods in trying to prove their power over one another. I often find though that those kind of contests tend to occur on the higher end of the power scale.
To some degree, the stick is always there before us. When we start out our careers, we are fighting purse snatchers and auto theives. By level 50, we're expected to take on dimension devouring gods. It's only natural to want to get more powerful so that we can be on their level too. And although we continue to make our characters more powerful outside of the game mechanics, it can be done without god-modding if done carefully, I've seen too many times when it isn't done well and it always makes my hairs stand on end, ready to be smited by them. (The demi-god player, not my hairs. That would be weird.)
I've always preferred the experiences of the average joe, handed his powers by fate and trying to reconcile them to his/her life but that's just me. In the end, we should play the characters we want to play but make sure that in doing so, we're not raining on others' parades. And I think that's really what a lot of the sentiments here come down to.
EDIT: Posted same time as Shadowe so sorry if it's repeating stuff. -
Quote:No. You're really not. I have never been a fan of cosmic scale characters, either in playing them or having to try and squeeze them into plots as anything other than an NPC villain. I think it's all a bit symptomatic of wanting to keep advancing a character beyond the limits of the game. Which is ok within some ways but when you can fling Statesman through the sun just by blowing your nose, I think it's probably gone too far. And never mind the ******* contest that it can turn into if you get two in the same room...Am I the only one here whose heroes are actually about what you'd expect a hero to be power-wise?
I give them a few powers, a few weaknesses, and let them slowly "become more powerful" as they level.
I mean, screw bad RP... Cosmic Powers are boring. At least, godlike ones are. Ones that are less consciously controlled, somehow restricted, only occur at spontaneous intervals, or are somehow linked to some bizarre and alien aspect of the characters' psyche, those are interesting, but then, those also aren't as much of a problem. -
Not wanting to disagree with the recommendations for weapons but Regen is a very clicky set and will force a lot of redraw. If that doesn't bother you, go for it.

The Militia's base, The Hub, is located in a purpose built tower block in High Park, King's Row above their community centre and the clinic specialising in mutation.
The Cadre has theirs in the docks of Port Oakes, beneath the dance floor of The Devil's Candy, a strip club which serves as a front for their activities. -
Sounds very much like you have the EU trial. If you can see:
Defiant
Union
Vigilance
Zukunft
Then you're on the EU servers. It sounds as if your friends, even though they are in the EU, are playing on the North American servers. -
I just wanted to pop back into the thread and apologise for my poor mood yesterday. I didn't mean to start an argument or even more rabid speculation.
In short, I am an old player but even though I have attempted to make the move to the US, I miss the EU community far too much. I hope for an elegant solution to our segregation from the rest of this excellent community so that we can have the best of both worlds. -
-
Quote:This, this, a thousand times this. Not sure if I would be "old player"...
But, no I will not cancel my EU account and start over (even though I sometimes would want to create chars on Virtue). I got too much invested in my chars on Union for me to jump ship...
I do know of a few people from my sg and a few others that have dropped EU and joined the NA servers. (I really dislike the segregation and the continued support of the flawed system of seperate server lists)
I've tried three times to start up an account on the US servers and it's been a mixed experience. The significantly higher number of players made teaming more fun and regular but I missed my old friends and I found the RP community impenetrable.
If my SG collapsed and my friends moved on maybe, maybe I might consider jumping ship. But to be honest, I think that this is what NCSoft is counting on: people getting tired of the EU servers and moving to the NA of their own accord or quitting entirely. When the EU servers have so few people on them that it becomes uneconomically viable to maintain them, then maybe we might see some form of list/server merge. However, the same argument for shutting down the EU servers would also apply to investing any sort of time or money for transferring EU players to the US. And then we're into the 'Korea Syndrome' again.
Sorry, not in the most positive of moods today. -

When War Witch visited the UK for the Omega Sektor Herocon, she brought with her a behind the scenes video of the NCSoft offices which we all thoroughly enjoyed. I'd love to see that posted up for everyone to enjoy along with some more recent footage.
Please? -
Quote:I remember before he left, Ghostraptor saying something along the lines of "It would be horrible to do, forget it." But I don't like being defeatist.Could we just please know what are the reasons that stops a server list merge?
This would be my number one wish for the game above all the extra shinys... just being able to be one community.
But I too would love to know the precise technical reasons too. Just to know whether they're really insurmountable or just too much work for such a small part of the community. -
Favourite memories?
- Hitting 50 with my SG (who also dinged) all within the same weekend. DXP, ITF and the Final RWZ arc made it particularly epic.
- The Omega Sektor Hero Con a couple of years back in the UK. No sleep, lots of good friends, flashing security guards and getting a 'WHOOP' from War Witch when I mentioned that my character was Canadian.
- The first time the Rikti invasions hit. Standing on top of the Talos Island hill blasting, buffing and just fighting wave after wave of invaders... that was truly epic and really felt like a community event.
I'm sure there'll be many more to come. Here's to the future! -

Another vote for "What my 6 Year Old Learnt...".
The poster is most likely unaware of it but I read that thread before I became a father and it was one of the few things that reassured me that I was going to be ok as a dad. I look forward to my daughter getting old enough to maybe follow in Sister Flame's footsteps.
And whenever I get the inevitable 'healer' tell on my Defenders, I turn to Dead Calm's Defender Manifesto:

Still makes me laugh even now. -
Welcome back. That's a long break so if you've got any questions after all that time, feel free to ask, you've got a lot to catch up on. Hell, you may even have missed ED (Enhancement Diversification)!
This might help give you an overview and the site itself is a goldmine for game information:

Ditto from me. I managed to pick up a number of shiny new badges and a truck full of merits too all in three hours worth of monster chaos.
-
Gah, and I'd just done updating all of mine too...
Thanks guys. -
Quote:Personally, I find that for me, if it's an RP mission anyway, things like XP are totally secondary to the story being told, and I couldn't care less about tangible rewards. The RP itself is a reward, if the story and mission are well told.
Precisely this. I regularly create AE arcs for The Militia and not once have I had someone complain that they weren't getting enough rewards. Occasionally there will be a request to turn the difficulty up (my lot have a tendency to just blow through whatever I throw at them) but nothing more than that. It's an RP arc, game mechanics come secondary.

This made me laugh. I know some roleplayers who could easily don this kind of armour.
If it's proliferated to villains though, there needs to be a god-modding power. -
I'll make this my last in this thread as BP already has enough to sift through.
Samuraiko, if you feel embarressed by the amount of calls for your hiring, I apologise for contributing. However it raises an issue that BP should pay attention to, namely that these videos are the type of quality we want to see publicising our favourite game. If a fan made production surpasses the official content in popularity and effectiveness, then the powers that be should be sitting up and paying attention. Regardless of whether BP has any hiring power (which I agree, is unlikely) this is a call for Marketing to up their game which I wholeheartedly support.
P.S. And we can but hope GG, we can but hope. -
Quote:I'm adding my name to hire Samuraiko the best "free" advertising you have ever had.
Her Vids beats the official ones by a mile.
Damn, I knew there was something I was forgetting to mention too. Most definitely this. I know three people who at least tried the game through watching her videos. That passion and talent deserves reward and recognition. Just eat the humble pie and hire her already. -
Even though the fine gentleman in question is no longer active on these forums, on his behalf I'm going to park this right here and hope that BP takes a look at it.

Because if strips the hell out of any other CoX merchandising I've ever seen.
Oh and yeah, while I remember, who's the person we should direct EU Marketing questions to? I don't have a pitchfork but I have been known to handcuff people to radiators before.
