If I see another clone of the game's least interesting character, I will scream. Please, if we are going to have a medieval zone, let it be without the taint of the Statesman story for a change....
  2. I replaced my 8800 GTS with a 460 and it works like a dream. Needs two slots but damn does it make the City and the Isles look so pretty now.

  4. I think Rabbit’s pulling your leg a little.

Yes, I think most EU players would be very happy to get a server list merge. Sure, you’ll get a few idiots who’ll complain but… 132 new character slots…

…tell me, have you ever seen someone’s head explode due to altisis?

I’ll admit freely, I’d be a little disgruntled to be @Dante_EU but I consider it a small price to pay for the benefits I would be getting. Issue a global name change token after the merge and give people the chance to make the change if they want to. Add to this a week or two of free server transfers so I can ship some of my alts to NA servers and my joy would be complete.

If I were to speculate, I would think that this is already something that is on the minds of the Devs and NCSoft. Only in the last few months have we seen the EU servers moved to the same location as the NA servers. That, I feel, is a very positive sign. Well, I can live in hope at least.
  5. Whut!? What you say sonny? Memories? I’ll give you memories sonny Jim. Young rascals these days don’t know how good they’ve got it!

    • We didn’t have no temporary rocket packs or fancy City Traveller nonsense, we had to run everywhere till we hit level 14!

    • There was no danged easy ride in the Hollows either. You learned to love those folk that took Recall Friend. And dagnabbit, you hugged those folk that carried Wakies or packed Resurrect.

    • Ain’t no new fangled Orob… urob… Uloborus… Those Time Lordy people! You wanted to finish an arc before outlevelling it, you damn well went and got yourself killed a goodly number of times! Damned Debt Cap used to mean something back then. Folks were proud to have them there badges!

    • There was a time when a Giant Monster was something to be damned scared about. You saw that BabblieBabbage dude stomping down the street, you turned right round and run the other way! None of this fancy soloing business.

    • Damned invention nonsense! Ain’t no fella round here these days wants to buy Nemesis Steam Circuits or Black Market Supergear. It’s all Imperviums and Soul Trapped Gems these days.

    • AE? AE!? Goddamit, when I was still heroing the only time you heard that was when some fooltard Blaster had pulled three spawns and was streaking cross yonder map wailing for his Empath. You don’t see walls of text like ‘WWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ QQQQQWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWSSSSDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDDD’ anymore I tell ya. No-one knows how to panic anymore these days.

Eh? Mammaries? Whatcha asking me about…? Oh, memories! Speak up son, you’re talking too quietly again. I might have hearing as sharp as a pin but you young un’s just damn well mutter all the time. Sure, I got a few…

    • First time a level 50 invited me to team with him, I was so proud. Said yes straight away then got me teleported about 400 feet straight up. Damned fool I was back then.

    • First time I saw one of them Rikti folk I jumped. Not only did they look all weird, those fellas were naked! What kind of a badass are you to run into battle without a stitch on!

    • I remember doing that ole Cavern of Transcendence the hard way! When no-one knew the closest entrance and you spent half your time knee deep in Trolls.

    • My first 50 hero was a sweet time, dinging the big 50 while pounding on Chimera.

    • There was a time when I couldn’t afford SOs the moment I turned 22 and you made do with fading DOs or nothing at all. I mentioned this to a 50 one time and he gave me a million inf. I never thought I’d seen so much inf!

    • Old Faultline. On a Superspeed character. No jump pack. No jet pack. No PD teleport. Had to scream on broadcast until some kind soul came and TPed me out.
  6. Hello people.

This might seem like an odd question but as it's a PPP power, I can't check it out in game.

In short, I'm respeccing my Sonic/Storm Corruptor and I'm considering the Mu Mastery pool to finish her off. The thought of red lightning streaking from this noisy cloud of pain rather appeals to me.

However, if Electric Shackles looks like the wide arcing attack that I've seen Mu Strikers do i.e. like Petrifying Gaze in Dark Miasma, I may change my mind and go for the Electricity Mastery pool for Shocking Bolt instead.

Can anyone help me out here?

    Thanks
  7. I approve of your kid's choice of t-shirt!

Christopher Robin, that's amazing, thank you very much. I think I'll have to update my FB profile picture with that one now. And yes, my eyes are blue so good choice.

No idea why you tidied up my old flat either but thank you, looks less of a state now.
  8. Posting from my phone as the internet has gone down in my area so I will not be there either unless Virgin pull their finger out. Many apologies.
  9. I've got an old, neglected CoH faces account somewhere but here's the one I use for my FB profile, even if it is starting to get a little old...

And as we're posting cosplay/fancy dress/larping photos, here's the favourite costume I ever made. No way near as professional as some in this thread but I still loved every moment of wearing it:

Although the last few years have seen some great new story arcs, it's also seen some horrible retconning and GM abuse of the highest order. Don't even get me started on the backstory for Powerset Proliferation *shudder*.

Absolutely agreed. If the next ten levels of Incarnatdom is nothing more than the quest for MOAR POWER then I'm going to be slightly peeved.

I still don't regard the Well as magic but it's a common human reaction to point at something we don't understand an call it 'magic'. It's just something that is, a power source that pushes humankind to the next level of evolution. Hell, I reckon it's just a pretty one of these:

I disagree with that interpretation of the concept, considering City of Heroes already makes a CLEAR distinction between the power of the divine - which tends to be classed Natural - and magical ritual, spell, incantation and enchantment. This is the centrepiece of the story of Tielekku, and by also apparently the theme behind the story of the Well of the Furies, which we call that only because that's the image it took on when Statesman and Recluse drank from it.

You also assume that items like Excalibur are "magic," when there really is no clear evidence that they are, or indeed that they are supernatural in general. We see them do things we cannot expect, yes, but we cannot infer that they are "magical" in the definition of City of Heroes any more than we can infer that the Green Lantern ring is magical in nature simply because its effect looks like magic. "Unexplainable" is not a definition for magic.

As I understood the power of the Well to work was in granting both opportunity and inspiration. A Scientist blessed by the Well will simply be able to have ever better ideas and be ever more capable of following through with them. A mutant blessed by the power of the Well will be more likely to develop benevolent mutations which improve their powers, as opposed to developing cancer. Magic users, furthermore, will find themselves better able to cast their spells, channel their magic items, draw on their magic blood and so forth.

The well has no "power" in the literal sense of the word. The well cannot actually "do" anything. It needs us to act through our powers, ideally on its behalf. The true power of the Well is the power of the people who "drank" from it.
Best explanation I've seen so far. Bravo.

And here's the problem with revisiting game lore right from the start of the game: players have been adding to and adapting to that lore for years now with their own backstories. To suddenly introduce things like the 'no mutants before 1938' is to retcon a wealth of player experience where they've taken what we know and ran with it. Even if you're not into rp, that kind of sudden revelation is just... poor storytelling.
  13. So basically, you're asking if anyone is deliberately not going to do the Incarnate content because it would violate their concept of not becoming 'godlike'. Ok, I think I get it.

I reckon the number who won't will be very small, like those who lock their characters at a certain level. The game scales threat to ability so just as Statesman wouldn't be seen dealing with Hellions, a level 5 Scrapper isn't 'meant' to be fighting Carnies. The people who do that are going to be fairly dedicated to their concept.

To do that means deliberately excluding yourself from content on that character and although there will be some who refuse to go Vigilante to explore the Isles, I doubt there will be many who will lock themselves out of the Incarnate system as it's more content for their 50s to explore. Some people will do it I'm sure. A friend of mine was so dedicated to his Natural Origin archer that he never took a travel power or any form of armour from his APP.

Of course all of this depends entirely on whether you see the Incarnate content as being associated with gods which it seems that you do. I pretty much refuse to be railroaded into such a poor storyline hence why I use different explanations for my characters' Incarnate abilities. It won't be the first time I've ignored game lore, I'm sure it won't be the last.

Eg. the INcarnate boost coul represent a new spell, or power aborbed directly, it could also be a new breathing excercise, or an ideafor a new schematic, or whatever.
I think a few of us roleplayers had a small meltdown about the Well lord when the Incarnate system was first announced. Certainly a lot of us didn't like there suddenly being this 'ultimate source of all our powers' after several years of playing self made characters. It's annoying but minor enough for me to ignore. It's not like we were all suddenly told that the reason for our powers was because we were aliens exiled from our home planet.

Oh wait, that was Highlander 2.

Still, I see Sam's point. I don't think I could ever run an all natural character to 50 for the same reason. Not without falling back on advanced technology or some other source of power.

"That word... I do not think it means what you think you think it means..."

I don't have gods. I have someone who is a servant to a dark god and another who is a champion of nature but that's about it. Not that I don't have villains that would love to become gods if they could get their hands on enough power...

I find the Well lore loose enough to be able to ignore it if I choose to. Some of my characters are just using new spells, trying new techniques or just advancing biologically, mechanically or magically. You can rationalise it into their backstory any way you choose. Personally, I find the Well lore incredibly weak so I ignore it with most of my 50s.
  16. Meh, I'm disappointed to. I was one mission in on a LRSF and the Red Text of Doom showed up.

On the bright side, I got to finish cataloguing my music library and now I'm off for an early night.

    Toodle pip!

Thank you. Alas, I am on the EU servers but it sounds like a lot of fun. Good luck.
  18. Dear Dual Pistols

I think you’re great. No, really, I do. Ever since the game began I have wanted a set like you. I don’t care what others say about your mad acrobatics, I was crazy about your cousin Dual Blades and now I’m crazy about you. But like all good relationships, we need to talk. Things aren’t easy between us and I think you know why.

I sometimes feel that you’re not really trying. Yes I know about your great AoE and I love the gracefulness of your crashless nuke but sometimes it feels like you don’t really want to hurt people. I have to caress your curvy triggers too many times to make a bad guy fall over and I think it’s all a ploy by you to make me pull your trigger as many times as possible. If only you made more effort, you know I would take you out so much more often. We could do the Storm Palace or Striga Isle, see the sights of Grandville or run laughing after Resistance in Neutropolis. But if only you could find just a little more penetration power sweetheart.

I love your adaptability, I love how you can choose to dress your bullets in pretty hues of blue, green or orange to match with my costume. It’s that kind of care and attention that you don’t see in other powersets my love. I have lost count of the amount of times I have dragged Dark Armour down to the Tailor only for them to continually obscure my clothes. You don’t do those things, you’re pretty. I’m sure that the change of colours is meant to do something but I consider it part of your quaintness that I can’t tell what it is. I’m not sure that our foes fully understand it either. They still punch me in the face just as hard, regardless of what colour bullets you use. But I can take it, there have to be sacrifices in all relationships.

And then there is the twirling. My dear, you know how I have come to love your bizarre grasp of the laws of nature. How I have learnt to suspend my disbelief of even comic book physics during Piercing Rounds and how I can now ignore the sound of Newton’s corpse hitting 400rpm in his grave whenever I trigger Bullet Rain. But do you have to twirl around my fingers every time I redraw? Is it vengeance? Jealousy? Because I chose to dally with your neighbour Mental Manipulation? Or because I flirted with that hussy Pool Power Air Superiority? Do you feel the need to spin around my fingers while that Behemoth looms down on us, all because I used someone other than you? Why can you not come cleanly out of your invisible holsters? I always wanted to be quick on the draw but with you I tend to be quick or be dead, usually the latter.

My dear Dual Pistols, I so want you to be the best you can be. And so I will suffer the snide looks from Fire Blast or the sniggering contempt from Energy and I will even put up with the surreptitious giggling from Electrical Blast who all the others used to pick on up until your arrival because my dear, I love you. I just want you to live up to the potential I know you have.

Yours in the Stetson and the worn leather holsters,

    Dante

((Seriously, love the set, just wish it could have a few tweaks, specifically to draw animations, secondary effects and damage. Twas fun to write though. ))

  20. It's also impossible to geographically place as, if I recall correctly, no part of Rhode Island has the sort of bay area that we are shown in maps of the city. But you know, it's close enough.

  22. I had this happen to me too but the character had only been offline for 8 days.

Zoned into a mission and all my powers were gone apart from the Seasonal temps.
  23. *Waves*

Hello. Yes, I’m in on this as well as part of EERC. I guess my reputation for making a prat of myself at player meets finally paid off.

I’ve been here since November 2005 and I’ve been running The Militia RPSG for almost as long. I’m mostly a roleplayer but I am *ahem* horizontally amenable to badges occasionally and am a bit of a lore/content buff. I suffer from appalling altisis and have played pretty much a bit of everything but there are still some things I have never done even in all this time. Accordingly, my home is on Union but I’ll be spending some more time on my neglected alts on Defiant from now on.

And no, I’m not doing the dance again.

P.S. Don’t worry Shadowe, when things calm down, he can nap in his bouncer watching the pretty lights on screen. It worked perfectly for me.
  24. Shadowe has pretty much nailed it there. The two visible places for rp are Pocket D and Galaxy Girl but there will be more going on in bases and roleplaying supergroups.

Join the Union Roleplayers channel (which is out of character) and say hello and I'm sure you'll find something to suit your tastes.

Welcome aboard and I hope you feel at home.
  25. If I can get my new Dominator levelled over DXP, I may have someone worth trying out in the Newcomers league. I'll keep Amber in the All Star as she's fully IOed and Alphaed whereas I may take the Lady's advice and use Py's second build to put him in the Pure league.

I aim to be around as much as I can for DXP so if there's some IC action going on, I'll be quite happy to hook up with people (time allowing).
