  1. Pick a them Bunny and I'll do something for it. I've got heroes and villains of just about every sort (see my sig ) so whatever is fun for you, I'm sure there's some character somewhere begging to be written for.

Awesome work on this issue, well worth a second read.
  2. Hi all.

I'm making a new Kin and I'm torn between these two blast sets as I've played neither of them very much.

I'm leaning towards Elec due to stacking holds but I don't know if Voltaic Sentinel can be buffed in any way. Plus it's a classic sapper build.

However, Rad seems to have more AoE although I'm told its attacks lack punch. Also a stun isn't quite as nice as a hold.
Any advice on which would be the better match and why would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

As a kid, I spent far too many hours reading comics and fantasizing about being a superhero myself. As an adult, I've reluctantly accepted the fact that I'm not from Krypton, will never gain powers after being bitten by a radioactive spider, will never have a dying alien bequeath me his power ring, will never be exposed to DNA-altering gamma radiation, etc.

When I play CoH, however, I'm a kid again. And all the characters that have been simmering in my subconscious for decades come to life. How cool is that?
That's a great way of putting it and is the reason I give to people who ask why I'm still playing. Short of having a superhero movie made with me in it, this is the best I'm ever going to get.

Another vote for community too, especially given how... well.... hostile some MMO forums can be, CoX is an oasis in a sea of intolerance and lolcats.

But if I was to select one, it would be that each experience is new. Every time I play a new AT or choose a new combo of powers, it's a new game. Sure, the 'go to mission, beat up mobs' is the same but every character creates a new game for me to play be it jumping into a massive spawn with my SS/Fire Brute or dominating the battlefield with my Plant/Storm, or levelling the place with my Fire/Fire Blaster... even the slightest change in AT and powers means new tactics, new experiences. Even though I've played years with my D3 Defender as my main, my new Fire/Dark Corruptor plays quite differently. And it's that that keeps me coming back again and again and again.

True but the OP said they were a Villain so... Either way, not important, Brute SMASH!!!

    CoH Noob...

Welcome aboard and welcome to the dark side... Mwah ha ha ha!

Brutes are a good choice for someone just starting out. Just pick evenly between your primary (attack) and your secondary (defence) and you should be fine. The key to a good Brute is to get your Fury bar up (under your health and endurance bars) and keep it there. That will make your attacks much more damaging as long as you've got the endurance to keep going (use the blue inspirations for more endurance, convert three of any other type into them by right clicking on them and selecting combine). Fury diminishes over time so the key is to keep attacking and getting attacked. Once you've got some defence and endurance covered, BRUTE SMASH!!!! is a tremendous amount of fun.

    Enjoy.
  6. Dr Vahzilok has always been a long time favourite of mine. The look, the theme, the quite frankly, horrific concept behind it all... I've wanted to see him come back again later on in game but he's always an AV I love facing, him and his disgusting minions.

Hero side, I think the Phalanx are all looking a bit tired, especially Citadel who's begging to be updated with shiny new tech armour.

Oh and Ghost Widow. Just because she's awesome.

Hey, I actually think you're onto a good thing here. I have wondered too what new and old roleplayers will do once they enter the game. With a lot of groups roleplaying in their bases and events being arranged on the forums and in channels, we almost do need some visibility to let new players know that we are here. I mean, is access to PD free for free players? I have no idea. If it is, that would at least be a start or a place to meet (and I'm not even a big PD roleplayer).

Although I'm all for letting new roleplayers work out their own way, I do think we should have some way of being accessible so that the community can be found. However, I haven't really had any good ideas without coming off as being too 'mentoring' and controlling as suggested. But I would like to do something to welcome new roleplayers to the RP community.
  8. Amen to the above.

There are some people in game who sneer at Corruptors and MMs because they all worship the holy buff/debuff shrine. But although those things are good, you should never give up playing a character if you're having fun. If you enjoy doing more damage than Defenders and can accept that your buffs are a bit lower, keep playing it. If you want to have stronger buffs/debuffs and can accept lower damage, then make a Defender.

In short, whatever gives you pleasure to play. Any team that kicks me because I'm on a Corruptor rather than the equivalent sets on a Defender is not a team I can be bothered to waste my time with. Play what you find is fun.
  9. Even as a diehard Browncoat, I feel I have to employ my usual rule with these kind of lists:

"Never trust any list with the words 'of all time' in it as they have a very poor grasp of temporal mechanics."
  10. Thanks for keeping reading TR.

I've already made a post about it in this thread but I believe that the various forms of Ice Shield could do with looking at. Cold Domination, Ice Armour and the various Ice Epics all use the same 'ice cube' overlay that can ruin a good costume and look... well... dated really.

Back when the game launched it was a quick and easy way to display ice but with the graphical updates we've seen, I reckon there are far more visually appealing ways to denote ice powers than a blocky ice cube man. Pretty please?

I believe this is the crux of the matter. There might be a lot of people on but they're too busy farming the trials on their 50s. Busy server but all gathered at one end of the pool.
  13. I want to see this in action. If I snaffle a costume code tomorrow, I'm running straight to my DB/Elec to see what the attacks look like. 1,000 Cuts must look insane.

Only if we get Harpoon Melee first.

And as a side note, I actually respect a lot of the supposed 'malcontents' on this board. Sometimes they're a pain but sometimes they're simply saying things others don't want to hear.

And as a further side note, I'm very happy with what I'm learning about i21 too. Despite what misgivings (actually, more like deep loathing) I have of all things Incarnate, i21 and Freedom seem to be shaping up to be truly spectacular.

  17. Just a thought for those who can't get it to load: when I clicked on the page, it told me that I couldn't use a secure connection to get to it. I had to disable my normal security to be able to view the page. No idea if that will help but it's a thought.

Thanks for the emote guys. Now I just want to be able to hold the pose for those really long moments when you just wish someone would stop...

    This.

The more I see the new 'official' log in screen the more I think it does nothing to sell the incredible diversity and customisation options of the game.* As dated as the original CoH screen is, you can at least get a feel for how many options are available for creating cool characters.

  20. Oppressive Gloom is an excellent power for any squishy that gets into melee range. It costs little and with a single accuracy can neuter a lot of minions. It should work well with Hail of Bullets, giving you an extra layer of damage mitigation.
  21. I've been wondering if there was going to be another one of these soon. I shall have to check the calendar.

  23. Here's a true story for you. As part of an RP static team a few years ago, my character concept came up with an SS/FA/Fire Brute without ever knowing that it was going to become the farmer of choice right now. I can honestly say that I teamed and soloed from 1 to 50 with little trouble. There are times when he can feel a little squishy but that's nothing that some IO investment and some purple inspirations can't solve.

The reason it does so well as a farmer is because it can have capped Fire Resistance with only three powers so against fire farms, it rules. My build is a casual IO build with 25% melee defence and 45% Recharge and yet I can clear fire farms easily. FE-> Footstomp-> Burn -> Fire Ball and everything is dead. I shudder to think what an uber build can do.

In short, /FA is fine for PvE content. You have to pay attention to what mobs you're fighting and there will be times when you have to act like a Blaster i.e. chomp some purples, run in and destroy everything before they kill you but on the whole, it's a fun set. Fiery Aura - It's not just for farmers.
