Will my dark/thermal be obsolete with I21?

When defenders get thermal, will the buffs/debuffs the corruptor gets out of thermal (and to some extent dark) be made obsolete because of the superior numbers of a defender? I only ask because my dark/thermal is now lvl 40 and while I enjoy it, I'd rather not spend the time to get to 50 and the inf to get the sets when a defender will just blow it out of the water.

Or will the added damage from dark being a primary with scourge out weight the higher thermal numbers in the defender primary?

I'm speaking from an endgame team stand point, not soloing or even leveling.

The defender will always have better buff/debuff numbers. Dark is irrelevant as it is already shared and I assume you are happy with it.

Any team that actually notices that your buffs and debuffs are a few percentage points behind a defenders and chides you for it is too uber for me.

Yes, corruptors are joining defenders, stalkers, tankers, peacebringers, and blasters on the junk heap.

More seriously, SinisterDirge is right. No one's really going to notice a few percentage points difference, and the ones that do are likely the same people that are going to be giving the team step-by-step instructions on how to play their characters the 'right' way.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

Amen to the above.

There are some people in game who sneer at Corruptors and MMs because they all worship the holy buff/debuff shrine. But although those things are good, you should never give up playing a character if you're having fun. If you enjoy doing more damage than Defenders and can accept that your buffs are a bit lower, keep playing it. If you want to have stronger buffs/debuffs and can accept lower damage, then make a Defender.

In short, whatever gives you pleasure to play. Any team that kicks me because I'm on a Corruptor rather than the equivalent sets on a Defender is not a team I can be bothered to waste my time with. Play what you find is fun.

Yes.

I may be in the minority, but I started out playing defenders but retired ALL of them in a move toward corrupters because I think the small difference between buff numbers is definitely worth the huge difference in damage.

Just to echo others, CoX is a casual rpg. This is supposed to be the game that people go to in order to avoid holy trinities and build nazis. Play what you want an rest assured that it is "good enough". Pursing perfection in the game (or in life if you allow me a little philosophising) usually doesn't lead to happiness but only unrealistic expectations and self-doubt.

Do you really want to party will someone who is such a build nazi that they don't accept corruptors? Just enjoy your character...you blast better but buff worse. It seems like a fair tradeoff.

A partial selection from my 50's on Freedom: Ail = Ice/Traps, Luck = Street Justice/Super Reflexes Stalker, Mist = Bane, Pixy = Trick Arrow/Archery, Pure = Gravity/Energy, Smoke = Fire/Fire Dominator

It's funny, I think I've seen, on every forum, someone decrying their favorite ATs inevitable obsolescence.

Once defenders get fire, the offensive difference isn't going to be that great. The sets and conversions are all a bit different, all of them don't really follow the rules. Since each one is just a bit unique, what's "best" is really going to depend on which primary/secondary you want to compare. Just as there are combinations that right now are "best" as a defender, there will also continue to be sets that are "best" as a corruptor.

In general most set combinations edge out in favor of corruptor, while a few are better as a defender. Just as traps is slightly in favor of a defender, Thermal may be one of those few choices that ends up balancing out ever so slightly in favor of the defender. Dark Blast typically I would say is a draw; the damage portion of the TT and NF will favor Scourge, while the debuff portion favors a Defender.

I personally would roll thermal as a defender, it will indeed be great as a defender set.
Then I'd combine it with either Ice or Fire for the damage. If you chose dark blast for the debuff to compliment Thermal as a support build, then I'd definitely say re-roll as defender. If you chose Dark Blast for damage, then I'd definitely say re-roll as Fire or Ice, in that order. Fire is the top damage dealer, and Ice is a good Number two that does more than just damage. AR, if and only if you have an immobilize to leverage the location damage, is up there evenly between Fire and Ice, but without the immobilize ice is likely better.
