  1. Perma Barrier from Destiny slot.
    Coordinated Judgement for adds.
Team 1 set to follow leader and target through leader.
Team 2 max AoE for adds.

Not sure how to max damage on him.

    Oh wait... we can.
Sorry, but that argument holds no water.
Run non incarnate content with all five slots ultra-rared up and tell me that again. You can, but it's like bringing a Ferrari to a go cart race. I don't think the incarnate abilities were designed as the old content easy button.

Like I said, feel free to use them for that. But if that's what you want to do, and you want to do it now, run the trials until you're satisfied and never run them again.

I hear a lot about 'the direction of this game' and how incarnate content is going to be so hard that regular players can't do it without getting the incarnate gear. Yes. That's what endgame is... welcome to MMOs.

For seven years this game has not had an endgame. Now, it has one. You either like it or don't. Do it or don't. You can't skip it and just get the rewards. Then it's not endgame.

Could they make some sort of super challenge mode for solos that drops threads and such? Yeah, sure. But it's the first real issue of incarnate stuff. Something had to come first.

Here's an idea.... make GMS and AVs have a chance to drop threads anywhere. Would that work for you? It's like the old endgame with new endgame rewards. Would still take slightly longer, but give a much more entertaining option.... Plus, small GM Murder squads with incarnate abilities would be cool.

I think I just talked myself in a circle...
  3. Incarnate rewards for Incanate content. The only need for them is to play the incarnate content.

If you only want them because they're 'awesome', then run the trials until you have them. You can stop at any time your satisfied with your Incarnate slots.

If you only want to solo, and you still want them because they're 'awesome', grind shards at the slow slow slow rate, or grab a helmet and run the trials once per day each until you are satisfied with your incanate slot. Again, you won't have to run them forever. Just for the slots, which, according to the various maths in this thread, won't take that many times through trial rewards.

If you never want to set foot in an Incarnate trial, ever never never refuse no friggin way, want all the Incarnate abilities maxed out in short order, you are out of luck.

The Incarnate Abilities were designed specifically for the incarnate content, not to allow people to run +4 x8 even faster solo. Or to solo ITF, or to be a 1 man Hamidon team. If you want to use them for that, fine. But that was not the purpose of adding them to the game.

It's an endgame system. And probably the least time intensive endgame content of any game. It's endgame. Not character advancement. It's gear. Raid gear. You don't like raid gear and endgamey stuff, then yeah, i20 is a crappy issue for you. If i21 is more endgame stuff, then that will be a crappy issue for you.

Complain all you want but there is nothing flawed with adding an endgame system that only gives the rewards for completing the endgame content. What did you want this to be? Just levels 50-55 with new powers to use on the old content?

Even though that other way is a massively punative monument to stupidity!

And for the people telling me: Take your time:

Well the Trials are already petering out on virtue. Its getting REALLy hard to get into a lambda run after a week as people have stopped playing it. I haven't really STARTED on my Freedom toon and I am massively worried.

So If I don't man up and put up with repeating these two missions NOW while the rest of the playerbase is Putting up with it, its less and less likely I will ever get slots done.

Things will be even worse come the next slots because we all know they will be using INCARNATE SOULS or something, that will have an even more punative conversion method, and no one will be running the "old" trials any longer.

Most people I know are getting one toon kitted out and then they stop logging in. Its probably what I will do once I finish my mains on Virtue and Freedom.
I think you're psyching yourself out here a little bit. People will be running these trials for a while. They're quick. They give the merits (which will be later used to get other things besides threads). People will want more than one tree in some slots. Some people will be going slowly like me.

People still raid Hami. They still raid the mothership. They still run Statesman. They OD on ITF. Will it be at the pace of 5 groups an hour? No. Maybe 2 to 3 a day.

Look, you want to complete it super fast, and then stop logging in? I mean, that's what your saying. You want to unlock everything because you think everyone will stop running it, but then you say you won't log in after completing it... Then, why rush just get complete it and stop playing?
  5. I accidentally led a Lambda the first day it was out. It was the best thing that could have happened to me. I told everyone "This run is probably going to fail. If you can't handle it, I won't be upset if you bail."

I was shocked that everyone stuck around. By the end of it, we'd failed and figured out why...

Then we ran it again, grabbed more players, waited at the big door and talked it all through. Super success.

Leading a team with little experience takes:

    1. Honesty - Tell people what's up.
    2. Courage - Step up and do it anyways.
    3. Love - Tell your team you love them. Often.

I get tired of the global nonsense of "Anyone running a....." "Come on people! Someone run a...." "So, no one is doing anything????" "I've been waiting for over an hour...."

Just run it yourself, or wait.
  6. Running anything 10 times a day will make you tire of it really quickly.

    As for iXP per run....

IF you convert all threads and merits, two successful runs will unlock BOTH judgement and interface. That's how mine went on my blaster.
  7. Naw. Game is fine. I played it last night.

After freeing 3 sibyls, I noticed that the other 2 squishies, both kins, weren't with us. So I TPd one over, hoping for some delicious fulcrum shift. We finished the sibyls and ran to the altar. Once again, the kins weren't there and one was dead. So I TPd them to the altar and rezed.
For the cysts, I asked the kins to at least keep the melee boosted, and they don't have to participate in attacking since the cysts explode and if they attack they will grab agro. As for me, my general strategy to stay alive was to eat lucks and debuff the cysts to make it easier to kill for melee. While doing the cysts, one of the kins said something like, 'if you don't clear the mobs, the squishies will die.' I wasn't sure how to reply to that, since it's a speed ITF. The team won't stop and kill mobs. So I eventually said, 'I have 20% def, so I just eat lucks and keep up.' I didn't die once during the cyst run while the kins died and lay there. The kin said other things, but I didn't want to argue, so I said nothing.
For the last mission, one of the kins kept dying a lot, so I rezed him whenever my rez was ready and tried to pass some of my lucks, sturdys and heals to him. His inventory was full.
WTH? It boggled my mind... why was he not converting all those insps to luck to boost his defense? Why did he have to wait for me to rez when he could have converted them to a wakie?
I prolly got a bad rep from the kins. It's a speed ITF, so I'm guessing they didn't know what that means. I suppose I could've slowed it down for them, but I only have a couple of hours in the evenings.
How ,ong did the run end up taking?

I've looked through the lists of Incarnate powers and their effects for a while, and I kept thinking "well, this character could have that, that character could have this" and they always seemed to fit... Until I started wondering what the eponymous Samuel Tow could potentially take. And I started drawing a blank.

I want to restrict my hypothetical scenarios to just the Judgement powers since those are what I'm most familiar with, but feel free to bring up the others just the same.

To put down a little context, Samuel Tow's powers are, essentially super reflexes, katana and guns, in that order. Granted, I can't give him guns in City of Heroes, so that's Super Reflexes and Katana. He's the result of a genetic experiment which gave him super-human cognition, bordering on precognition, which in turn makes him deadly accurate with a very special sword which can cut through anything (the nature of which I never committed to writing).

So what do I give him? I'm aware that there are four Judgement powers - Fire, Energy, Ice and Darkness. Neither of those powers really works in-concept, as they all revolve around manifesting elemental (and I count "dark" as an element in City of Heroes) powers to shoot from his hands, essentially. Originally, way back when, I was speculating about what a "weapon-based" Incarnate AoE could represent and... I was and am drawing a blank. A sort of really fast slash in all directions, maybe? I don't know.

And thinking about Sam got me to thinking about a few other characters. Like Brutticus, my alternate-Earth woman whose powers revolve around her being amazingly strong and so tough as to be next to unkillable, and her powers manifest as axe and shield. For her, I could kind of see a power that's a punch/stomp to the ground causing a massive tremor, or even a People's Elbow to the ground that does the same. Then I remembered Xanta, my "Troll girl," who's also super strong and very invulnerable. Similar concept, really.

Then there are the odd ones, like Inna, my Energy/Energy character. I didn't actually see a "pure energy" Incarnate power (though I could have missed one), and electricity... Doesn't really feel right for her. I mean, when she was a Blaster, she took Foce Mastery, and now that she's a Brute she's looking at Energy Master, speaking of Epics. And then there's my "Kung Fu Robot" whom I made after Resurrection Rise 2's Rook, who might do well with a pure energy kamehamehadouken, but really not very well with electricity, either.

And, yes, I know I've said I'm not interested in Incarnates, and I'm generally not. Probably not for a year or two, or at least a few months. But this doesn't mean I can't speculate, and I expect that at least sooner or later I'll get off my lazy *** and get at least the Judgement slot opened up and filled in. But this really does beg the question of "With what?"

And, finally, I want to head an argument off at the root: No, I'm not looking to rewrite my characters into somehow developing supernatural powers and suddenly manifesting the ability to shoot "Incarnate Fire," not am I looking to explain why they suddenly have the unrelated ability to do so. I COULD write that into their concepts, yes. It would be relatively easy. But then those won't be the characters I wanted to make, those I fell in love with and kept close to my heart even when I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep playing the game.

Consider this a purely theoretical discussion. I'm not advocating change or condemning additions. Just discussing concepts and stories.
Fire could be phospherous (sp?) grenades. Ice, wrist cryoguns. Energy could be almost anything. Dark? Yeah, that's a tough one to stretch.

I haven't seen the graphics on all for them, but cryo is really insta quick, and it's a cone. Doesn't have the raging "Hey buddy! I'mma frigging snow storm!" graphics. If anything, it just looks like bad guys falling down to me.

Your SS Invuln characters... well, to stay in concept, you'll have to ignore the nukes, or pretend they are something they're not. Might be better just unlocking the slot, but speaning your rewards in interface, etc. Trust me, if you intend to go slow like I do, you'll never be able to slot them all beyond the first tier annyways. Best to pick your favorite and specialize.
  10. I disagree. I want more multi team content. I love the trails so far.
  11. Some groups cook through it. Others fail. Leadership and coordination make a huge difference. I've only failed once. I can see this getting extremely easy in a few weeks.
  12. Lamda is not hard with good leadership and a full 16. No one's running it with 8 until they're fully incarnatededed.
  13. It seems to be a GFX issue. When I'm in Lambda sector, everything gets choppy. I try the GFX unload, but it gets no better. Anyone have any ideas how I can speed things up?

I have my graphics at a bare minimum. I'm running a dual quad laptop with 3 gig of ram and the Intel4 chipset. Thanks.

  16. 2 Lamda's. One success. Unlocked Interface. Justice 78% unlocked. Got close to 30 Threads. 3 merits. 1 Purple. Both Lamda's were less than 45 minutes. So, 3 hours. And I'm by no means a hardcore player.

The doom is way over rated people. If I can do it (and feel free to ask around if I'm any good at this game, I'm not), anyone can.

This is the most casual end game content on the planet.

Personally, I don't want anyone knowing what I'm selling, for how much, for how long etc. And I don't even dabble in the markets anymore. Why don't I want my name known?

    Psychos.

I post something for 1 mil, and someone's pinky slips and bids 10 mil. Next thing I know I'll get the "I made uh miztakes. Can I pleez haz back $$?" Or some angry, overprotective Mom asking I play fair and not lowball bids to see if I can catch a deal.

You're talking about my global name here. Attached to some numbers with NO CONTEXT that some angry twit can use as an excuse to harass me. The market is economic PvP. Get your helmet. I do. I learn the rules and protect myself.

I've bought luck charms for 1000 inf and lower. Because I bid and leave it. I don't wait until I need one if I know I'm likely to need one soon. If I see 100k for common salvage... I walk away and run some low level content to get what I need.

I just didn't get the "I wonder if" scenarios. I always just looked at the numbers in Mids. The reason is, in my experience, I don't really find a play difference between 5-slotting a power and 6-slotting. Sometimes the set bonus ups some defense here or there, but I got the same effect with popping purples.

So, I always choose powers based on how I want to play it, then slot it out based on the numbers. I never really "wondered if" -- I just started beating up bad guys.

    Cheers.
Well, look at it this way. If there's no difference six slotting a power, and you see that sixth slot sitting there... and have have 3 other sixth slots 'just sitting there', you could 5 slot a whole new power, get like 5-10% recharge bonus, or regen or use that power in a new and dramatic way (Rise of the Phoenix 5 slotted as an attack comes to mind), that's where the 'what if' comes in.

Mids won't tell you how it feels to hit that button after all hope is lost and see you've actually won the day even in defeat. And it gnaws at you, like a hungry beaver on a maple tree sandwich.

What if... your Dark Melee scrapper doesn't NEED three attacks?

What if... your defender might be better served with HoverPort instead of fly?

What if... Your 'sky is the limit' Tank suddenly craves stealth for a few speed runs?

What if... TP Friend just might fit in your Controller's build if you drop that ancillary you never use?

Can mids really tell you the answers to those questions? Does mids hug you and kiss you like Jack does?

So, either you aren't actually changing anything when you respec, or you don't love your characters the way you think you do.
Oh, I change them. I upgrade them. Some upgrades are only possible with a RESPEC. Sometimes, my vision for how to play the character changes. Sometimes the game changes and I need to keep up. Sometimes, I think "Huh... I wonder how cool it would be to six slot Bonfire?" Then I do it, then I think, "Nah, not as cool as I thought."

Sometimes, I'm nagged by the fact that I don't have 5 LotGs and I need another defense slot. Sometimes, I wonder if that sixth slot in x powers would be better spent on y powers.

Mids is great for numbers, but how does that set up PLAY? Jack Wolfe knows. And he hugs me and tells me to be calm, be quiet, be safe. And then the RESPEC starts. Ding dang dang dang bang select select, mold, shape, spindle, slot are you sure? Yes. Yes I am.

  24. Sam,

I only have 4 point of protection and I don't have any clear recolection of being knocked back by anything. I probably have, but it's so rare I can't remember a specific.

A good idea might be to slot one. Play for a few days. If you get any knockback due to what you normally, do, you'll know it. Then slot two. Repeat.

I've never slotted more than one.
