Quote:Offhand, a problem I can see: unless the requirement is relatively trivial (one easy-to-get exploration badge, maybe), that greyed-out mission is going to stay there, blocking all further missions of that type (be it hunt or door) on that contact. In effect, the contact becomes a badge contact, and we already have those.I'd actually prefer it if sometimes, the game made you stretch out of your comfort area and DO other things. (Contacts who give bonus missions to those with a certain amount of badges, or who have played in the arena for awhile). But don't hide those bonus missions, make it apparent, i.e. at an ordinary contact (not a hidden one) that you're getting missions from, occasionally have one grayed out with a red message saying something like "This mission requires you to have at least 3 history badges."
So before this can be implemented, yet more tech needs to be put in to prevent such a thing from happening. -
Got my Dual Pistols/Mental Manipulation Blaster from level 6 to level 28.
This is actually quite impressive for me; I can level a Scrapper like nobody's business, but my other Blaster (Fire/Elec) went through at least two double XP weekends I can remember, and she's still only level 34. Every level had been like pulling teeth.
With DP/MM, it's been incredibly fun. I suspect it's because the stylishness of the set hasn't worn out yet, thanks to the increased levelling giving me new powers quickly.
I think I'll take the DP/MM Blaster to the AE building, and try out some of the new arcs that have been featured. -
I use IOs as their recipes and ingredients drop. Everything else, I'm fine with SOs.
I don't bother with more, because I don't want to bother learning the intricacies of the Market.
I don't want to bother learning the intricacies of the Market, because I don't want to bother with the slings and arrows of the louder forum experts on the topic. I'm sure there's good advice in there, but when it's wrapped inside insults, the effort expended ceases to be worth the rewards.
I want to play the game, not suffer attacks on my mental capacity. -
I remember seeing lots of Crey Paragon Protectors (often "liberated") a while back.

Quote:There were also the Parallel Illusions, with even more name-confusion possibilities.Oh! I forgot Multiple Girl. How could I forget Multiple Girl. Does anyone know how many Multiple Girls there actually were?
I say a bunch of us get together and bring Multiple Girl back.
(Multiple Girl was a group of identical characters that all had the same name. They switched capital "I" and lowercase "L" around on each one but it looked the same because of the font used.)
I was Parallei LLLusion. I think I still am; I don't think I deleted that character, despite not having played for a very, very long time (MA/Regen; tempted to reroll). -
Quote:I'm curious about whether these missions are never-ending, in that you can kind of bounce back and forth between Hero and Villain (or at least Rogue and Vigilante) as many times as you want. Will there be a cap? Apart from the assumed disadvantages of switching over so many times (for instance, losing influence or infamy each round). To me it sounds like we'll actually get to make the key choices in the mission. War Witch says you can play the new GR content without using it to change alignments with, so from that I think we can safely say that there will be special 'choose your path' missions that you can wrap up in a heroic way or a villainous way.
For example, you're a hero retrieving some stolen cash. You could choose to pocket some of it for yourself. Nobody would be any the wiser. Or you're a villain who has a hostage to deliver to Arachnos, but you choose to let them go instead.
I originally thought that it was just one set of key missions, which determined your path from then on, no takebacks. But from the interviews, it seems like I was mistaken, so a character could conceivably travel all over the morality map at any time.
I can kind of see myself repeating the missions on a level 50, going from Hero to Villain to Hero to Villain and so on, just to try it out. (Because I am easily amused.) -
Quote:Assuming you're seriously asking instead of cheekily highlighting, it's a pun. This thread should be put out of its misery and an official discussion thread that is moderated should take its place.Quote:You know, for a YEAR whenever people talked about Euthanasia I thought they actually WERE talking about "youth in Asia" because I'd never had the term explained to me...
...it was very confusing wondering why all these Asian people were dying all the time and why people in America were talking about it so much....
Because that, to me, would be highly relevant and interesting in terms of Issue 17 news.
I suppose it's because "euthanasia" to me would be "you-tan-na-sia", while "youth in Asia" is, well, "youth in Asia". -
I've noticed that it's generally futile, unless there is actual mod intervention, to request that people not discuss a topic.
Taking this thread as an example, the Issue 17 information has a certain amount of discussion value, and it has garnered said discussion. But after a time, there isn't much more to say: you say your piece, you talk about it some, but unless we get even more official information, that's the end of the matter.
However, personal attacks are more, well, personal, even when phrased in a general way with "you people" or suchlike. As such, readers will feel that the message is directed towards them specifically, or other people they consider friends, or others "on their side". Therefore, we feel the need to respond.
Personally I think that it's quite fascinating, and I'd like to probe more into the sociological causes behind this, but I know I cannot do so, since on a forum like this, there is no guarantee that what I am told will be the truth. Especially on a public forum, where flippancy and attempts at humour seem to be the default reaction, due to the idea that posting a message is a performance, above and beyond simple communication of information and facts. -
Quote:Judging from what feels like about half the thread, apparently not. Please? Can we just discuss I17-related stuff and leave our personal opinions of certain posters, if we have any, out of this thread?
Why does this thread have "youth in asia" as a tag? Is there something I should know?
(Yes, I know I'm not technically "youth" anymore. But I'm still in the right geographical area, and fantastical escapism is always fun.) -
Quote:It's a very ecchi series, occasionally bordering on softcore porn. (Then again, I've heard people describe it as softcore porn anyway, so maybe my standards are different.) It's done so over-the-top that it's meant for fanservice comedy, not titillation. I think some people have called it a stylistic successor to Kanokon.Just started simulcasting on Crunchyroll today Omamori Himari http://www.crunchyroll.com/library/Omamori_Himari
so far I find it to be fun
Having said that, if you don't mind the fanservice, it's a fairly well-done show. So far it seems to be following the manga, so I'm happy. -
I suppose I should be happy the Korean version of CoH is no more, or I'd have much the same problem connecting from Asia.

39 out of 70.
I am kicking myself for missing obvious ones like Mynx and Dreck. Others I was going "... who? Oh, right."
Good quiz. -
Which server are you guys at?
(Yes, I know it's a long shot, since apparently I'm one of the very few who bother posting on the forums. Try try lah.) -
Quote:For the same reason people on the forums occasionally talk about the nonexistent Super Special Platinum Edition of CoH/V when someone asks a question that may not have been worded properly (insulting, condescending, or some such): they think it's "funny".Seriously. Nemesis is dead, Bella is in the Resistance. What I'd really like to hear, is a hypothesis as to why we would all lie about this.
The problem with spreading untruths on forums, even in the name of sarcasm or humour, is that the truths start to have about the same level of veracity. -
It's the Internet handle I've been using for about a dozen years now.
As for how I came up with it, before that I went around (in my adolescent way) as "The Dark Knight", ie pre-Paladin Cecil from FFIV, and then got tired of people mistaking me for being a Batman fan (nothing against Batman, but back then I knew nothing outside general knowledge of the character, so I couldn't be called a "fan"). Trying to come up with a new handle with the initials "DK", I flailed on the keyboard for a while to come up with "Damien Kellis".
I strongly suspect that more people in the world in general are familiar with me as "Damien Kellis" than as my real name. -
Quote:Yes. Energy Melee/Dark Armour Brute (before I9 and Inventions). I did so because everyone I asked told me that it's a "great set at the higher levels". I assume level 50 is high enough.Did you ever get a character to 50 that you DIDNT like? If so, why?
I still don't like the character, but I keep her around so I can point to her and say "look, I already tried this powerset combination and did not base my dislike on the early levels". -
I've more or less completely given up on trying to figure out when maintenance is supposed to be, and am working on the assumption that every evening I will be locked out of the game.
It's a little sad that I've only just realized that what I actually preferred was not a better maintenance time, but rather consistency. A reliable schedule which I can look at and go "well, it's too bad I can't play at these times, but at least I can play at every other time".
I've been putting in my playtime during weekends, which, thanks to cost-cutting measures from Singapore's ISPs, tend to lag quite a bit. So it goes. -
Quote:Same here.Of course, if there IS a preorder in the PlayNC store, I will preorder without a second thought. It's as simple as that.
I wonder if Steam will sell Going Rogue. And if so, I wonder if there is any way to connect a GR bought from Steam to a non-Steam CoH/V. (I doubt it.) -
Quote:According to many reviews, the costume creator. The ability to resize bits and pieces of anatomy to that degree, as well as have asymmetrical costume bits that aren't specifically-added and one-off, is seen to be an improvement over CoH's costume editor. The relative lack of options is excused with the young age of the game, possibly drawing on the idea that stuff like being able to choose different glove options for each hand is part of the engine, while the quantity of options itself is something that can be added on later. When I found Champions Online lacking pretty much half the things I expected it to have and being literally YEARS behind City of Heroes, not to mention an unashamed WoW clone, I've found it hard to understand where that stupid notion of CoH 2 is coming from.
Art style preference is subjective. I've noticed that a lot of people who don't like CO's artstyle enough for it to be a major factor are playing CoH, which implies that the people who play CO at least don't mind the art style. As an anime fan (even more specifically a moe bishoujo anime fan) who's been in plenty of non-anime forums (like this one), I can understand the subjectivity.
In terms of gameplay, and indeed in my view in general, it's not "CoH 2.0" or "CoH 0.5" or "WoW wannabe" or anything like that. It's a different game, because it mixes and matches from all sorts of different sources while adding in some new stuff of its own. Like just about every other creative endeavour.
I'm not saying that it is blanket-impossible to compare CoH and CO, but more that there are so many points of comparison that it helps to be precise. Are we comparing it as Superhero MMOs? Are we comparing it based on the Superhero part (theme, style) or the MMO part (gameplay)? Which part are we comparing?
If CO manages to clear up most of the bugs and shortcomings that are, from all reports, common to every MMO launch, it could well be a viable alternate Superhero MMO to CoH. But the comparisons based on genre and very broadly-defined gameplay mechanics is like comparing WoW and DDO because they are both fantasy MMOs. It just doesn't work in any useful way.
Quote:I think the OP has a valid concern. CoX is a niche game; fantasy and, secondly, sci-fi MMORPGs are the more visible games and genres. A lot of the MMORPG player base has not even tried our game here, much less played for any length of time. They see a new (OOOOOO Shiney!!) CO game that came out, has the same developer name as ours (Cryptic), and people being dumb and gullible as they are, immediately assume that it is the successor to us. And because it is new, it just HAS to be better, right?
This does lead to an odd case on the CO forums (not the CoH forums, because gods know the forumites here will never let anyone forget about the differences between Cryptic Studios Then And Now) where the devs are perceived to be both Experienced Hands at MMO-creation and Completely New. -
From the CoH Lore thread, posted by Manticore:
Quote:Something happening in the game on that day, or is it just going to be a quiet ceremony? The only scheduled public ceremony related to Hero 1 is the opening of the time capsule that was created by Omega Team. This event will occur November 27th 2009 and will be reported on by the Paragon Times. -
Negima is an odd one. I'd recommend the manga (assuming you don't mind lots and lots of incidental fanservice), un-recommend the first anime, and only qualitatively bring up the second if you like mindscrew parody.
Magical Girl recommendation: Princess Tutu. Also, Card Captor Sakura +1. -
For some reason I keep seeing random 5th critters standing around on the street with a sizeable chunk of their health gone.
Which implies that they got into a fight with other critters (presumably the Council) and keep winning.
I wish I knew how. Is it better powers, better tactics, or just sheer numbers and attrition? -

Something I read once with regards to roleplaying in tabletop games and computer games: for computers, math is easy and story is hard. For tabletop, it's the other way around.
Considering it's much easier to create a character in the HERO system if you have a calculator than if you're doing it in your head, I can kind of see that.
