Just found out that my niece is having her birthday party tommorrow , so I probably wont make it.
[/ QUOTE ]
With this in mind, do we now actually have anyone with the Croatoa TF available? -
Sounds great, I'll be there.
-
I would love to do the Croatoa TF, if you end up running that one. I'd be bringing Cybercel, a level 32 Grav/FF Controller. If you're doing it some time this weekend or in the next few days, ideally, I'd need to be done before or around 7PM, so ThinMan's suggestion of running it around midday would be perfect for me, as would some time in the afternoon, as I don't believe it's a particularly long TF.
Please give me a shout on @Cybercel if you end up doing it this weekend or any other time, as I've been hoping to get on a team for it. -
[ QUOTE ]
Ill be asking for advice along the way. Im already have restless nights trying to weight up which travel power makes most sence, and whether i actually need stamina with this build...
[/ QUOTE ]
Take Stamina. As Syn said, /Dark eats quite a bit of endurance, and Fire/ will if you're planning on using lots of AoEs. I tried to go without Stamina on my Ice/Dark, and really, really regretted it. Even with it (and endurance reductions in Darkest Night and Shadow Fall) I still eat through endurance.
As far as travel power, I went with Super Speed on my Ice/Dark, as the stealth from SS stacks with the stealth from Shadow Fall, giving invis from mobs, which is handy in PvE. SS doesn't have a stealth affect in PvP, but it's still really nice to be able to get around Siren's Call and fight other players without the Longbow they're trying to hide in seeing me. I have three-slotted Hover just to make it a little easier to get around, and to follow people into the sky. -
Just to clarify further, the enemy doesn't have to be held by a Controller. It doesn't matter who or what caused the enemy to be contained (which actually means held, immobilised, slept, or disoriented iirc), you will always get double damage on them. This means that on objects like crates or gun turrets, you'll always get double damage since they're immobilised. However, you won't get double damage when using Brawl, or any temp powers. Only powers from your primary, secondary, and pools will work.
End result is that multiple-Controller teams are really, really fun. -
Yeah, I've seen it quoted as around 75%. We don't get Defiance, we get Scourge, and IMO it's much, much better. Chance to critical on enemies at low health. It's not great at low levels and against minions, since you only tend to critical against things you'd have killed anyway, but against bosses, AVs, and other players? It can really be quite nice.
If you really want AoE damage, consider Fire/Dark instead of Fire/Cold. /Dark has Tar Patch, which decreases the enemies' res. It also slows everything on it. Tar Patch + Fireball is a beautiful thing. So is Rain of Fire on a Tar Patch. Not that I'm saying don't roll a Fire/Cold if that's what you want... I have one myself. She's not really high levelled enough for me to give any specific build advice though - I've been concentrating much more on my Ice/Dark.
-
Weirdly, shortly after reading this post, I ran into a member. I really don't remember seeing any before, though.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Well, with Dark you can floor accuracy, which has already been reduced in pvp to 50% ratehr than PvE's 75%, so I woulcn't discount it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sold on the -acc of the dark powers, mainly because most of the people who regularly PvP are slotted up with accuracies, and/or have things like Tactics. I'm sure it'd work nicely if I were doing Dark/Dark, to stack all of the debuffs, but I'm not covinced they'd do enough to really help on their own. If people in there can hit through my Corruptor's lotted Darkest Night, I don't think a few Dark attacks are going to make a huge difference. Correct me if I'm wrong and they do more -acc than I'm thinking, though.
[ QUOTE ]
Kin / Dark might work well. Only issue is the large number of poor dark powers later on. Dark Pit, Torrent and Drain Life are all pretty useless IMO. But this might give you room for Tactics nice and early etc.
A Kin / Rad is quite a nice combo too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Mm, the lack of good powers was actually helpful in some ways when I first was looking at the build, since there are so many good things to take in Kin!
I already have two characters with Rad Blast, so just for the sake of not overusing a set, I'll probably avoid it this time.
[ QUOTE ]
Archery has an accuracy bonus, i believe energy does more damage (someone correct me if i'm wrong), psychic is the least resisted and sonic will weaken resistences.
[/ QUOTE ]
Energy does knockback.I do know the various secondary effects, more just looking to see if anyone could come up with a compelling reason for using one of the sets.
[ QUOTE ]
Psychic has a really evil -recharge, it's not nice to get hit by a couple of them. Combining that with siphon speed might be nice. It does have slighly long (and pretty naff) animations.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's a good point, I hate getting hit with psy blasts. Think I'll play around with a few builds for Kin/Dark, Kin/Psy, and Kin/Elec and see which one calls to me the most. Thanks everyone. -
I'm questioning what to do with one of my many alts, a Kinetics Defender. I rolled her before PvP was in the game, and before I thought I'd want anything to do with PvP, and made her a Kin/Dark purely because I'd not tried the Dark set, and didn't want to make yet another Kin/Elec.
However, now I really enjoy PvP, I'm questioning how that will work out. It's not that I want to build her specifically for PvP, but I want a secondary that's going to be workable in those zones - I don't want to end up just being a buff-bot whenever I'm in PvP.
All the advice seems to be to go Kin/Elec, and build the character for endurance sapping, and I know that's effective, because I've fought Stryker. So, if I want to make this character PvPable, do I cave in and re-roll her as Kin/Elec, or is there another combination that will work nicely?

too be fair, coh has been pretty quiet generally lately. Ive been finding it harder and hardede to find teams outside of sg's and coalition
[/ QUOTE ]
Oddly, while that happened to me for a good while after CoV came out, I've hit a streak lately, and I can't STOP getting invites. Thanks to random tells in the last few days, I've had non-stop teams, and have added four people to my global friends list. I logged on the other day onto one of my Controllers meaning to solo... in the space of about two minutes, I got one blind invite and two tells. The tell I followed up on has turned into regular teaming with a Kineticist, including a successful respec and TF in the last two days.
Maybe I'm just having stupidly good luck? Or does everyone want to team with a Grav/FF for some reason?
That said, last couple of times I tried finding a team with my Kineticist I had no luck at all (and she very much needs a team), but she's still at a lowish level where not everyone appreciates how good they are. That was a while before my recent streak though, so perhaps I should try again. -

Noticing A LOT of Illusionists, Stormies and Fire controllers, haven't seen another Earth/ on Union for ages.
[/ QUOTE ]
Storm is only a secondary anyway.I actually have an Earth/Storm at 14, proving to be lots of fun so far! From the Union 50 list, Illusionists do outnumber the others by far, and we don't seem to have a whole lot of Earth Controllers - it does seem a shame, as it's a fantastic set both to play and watch. I was in awe the first time I came across one, too!

[ QUOTE ]
Not too sure about Onion...but Jhace...from our SG hit 50 a several months ago.
I have one at lvl15, however am looking to get all accolades before reaching lvl24. Won't be able to start this until lvl20 (Striga Isle: War Wolves/Vampyrii etc). So...lvl50 won't be coming for a long time yet.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's impossible to get all the accolades before then. I got Atlas Medallion and Freedom Phalanx Reserve Member pre-level 25 recently (actually got one at level 23, and the other at 24 - they're easy, as long as you have a high-level friend to help out), but a number of the others require you to head into areas like Crey's and Eden, and you can't enter at that level. And I somehow doubt I'll have the patience to try and get the Illusionist's pet badge anytime soon. -
[ QUOTE ]
Anyone know how many 50 fire/storms ther are on union? ive only ever seen 2, including me
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, there's you and one other on the level 50 list, but I actually know of one other I need to add. It does seem like a really nice combination. -
Just a few notes - don't take any of this the wrong way, but something caught my eye as maybe being off in the first few lines, and I ended up reading the rest through in my old writing workshop mindset that I still have from uni.
You place the character's mother as being a Portal Crop scientist at the time of his conception. I'd be really, really careful doing that. Referencing the timeline we have up on the official side, the fist portal wasn't opened until 1988. I'd imagine the official opening of Portal Crop came sometime after. However, the initial company was fairly quickly destroyed from the sound of things, not reopening until 1998. Now, if the character is 19/20 (going by the end of your story), he was born before Portal Corp even existed! Obviously, if you don't care about the canon, it doesn't matter, but if you want the character to basially fit in with the background we have, then you might want to play around with jobs, or dates.
More generally, watch some of your sentences - the first one is over four lines long. That in itself isn't a problem, of course... but it clearly should be split into several. After "Tommy Fale was born to great things," you should probably either have a full stop, or a semicolon. The parts about his mother and father would flow much better as separate sentences, and the part about your character watching his father on TV should certainly be separated. At the very least, think about using some semicolons and dashes; right now, it's just comma after comma, and it really just starts to run together and get quite confusing. That probably sounds picky, but I'm using it more as an example than anything else - you do similar things in a number of places. I'd rather give an example than sit and edit the whole thing though.
I don't get why his mother withdrew from his father like that. Especially since she was apparently proud of his heroism and abilities, and pushed her son to emulate him. It'd be interesting to hear a little more about their relationship and why that happened, rather than just being told it happened. As I got told ad infinitum in uni classes, show things to your readers, don't just tell them. And why would such an intelligent, talented person think it was a good idea to give up all income and support for her child? It's hard to swallow such irrational things without a bit of reasoning or background.
I have to question why something like the mutant school, and your character's treatment, would happen in Paragon City. We're talking a city that's full of heroes, and by extension, freaks. The people of Paragon City are used to mutants, seven-foot-tall people, and just about anything else weird. They're also used to respecting and admiring such people. Placing his childhood somewhere out of Paragon City would actually work better in my opinion. Cities tend to be more liberal in many ways than a backwater town in the real world, and I've no doubt that the people from a tiny farming town in Texas have seen less mutants than your average Paragon City child.Obviously, it's up to you, but again a case of making things fit the setting and be believable. When you're writing with a pre-existing background that all the readers know, you have to be careful. Likewise, I find it a little hard to believe that after killing three cops, he was allowed to go free. A scene explaining that, or perhaps downgrading the earlier offense to simply breaking and entering, making his mother his first murder victim, could help it make more sense. Or perhaps you could fudge it that his father, being someone of power, managed to talk the authorities into releasing his troubled son so he could help him. Regardless, as is, it jumps out at me as not quite making sense.

[ QUOTE ]
I'll wait then for that and not get fitness
I'd rather a build a villain from the ground up than do a respec.
Most corruptors use teleportation?
[/ QUOTE ]
If you don't put Stamina in, you may well fine you have to respec ASAP. I tried without on one of my Corruptors, and it made levelling a struggle. You'll probably level more quickly by building with Stamina, then respeccing out after 38. Anyway, I almost always find that no matter how much I try to build perfectly from the beginning, I end up respeccing in the 30s or so - just a matter of getting to know your powers, and see where you could improve things.
As far as Teleport, I wouldn't say most Corruptors use any one travel power. As Kin, if you really want, you can get away without a travel power since you have Siphon Speed and Inertial Reduction available, but again, it's a long wait before you get the latter, and with Siphon Speed, you're reduced to sprinting through high-level areas. Much like with Stamina, some people take a travel power, level, and then respec out of the travel power once it's a little more workable. TP will certainly work fine if you want it, though. -
[ QUOTE ]
I agree that some people will not want to team and such is life but in a mass PvP event like last night the only reason I could see for people not teaming was so that they could PL there PvP rep by getting cheap kills I.E. getting the last hit on some one else target.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't see many people on the villain side broadcasting that they needed a team. Early on it was happening, but the team I was on was full, so there wasn't much that could be done. I'm pretty sure there was another team that was picking up some of those people, though. A little later on after a good number of villains left, around the time of the base camping, I was on a team of five or six. At that point, I really didn't see many people past our team, which explains why we were almost incapable of really getting out of the base - the number of heroes was really at its peak from what I saw, which was a rather unfornate piece of timing. Various people were invited to the team as it went on, and we ended up with a team of eight - we certainly weren't denying people a place on the team based on bounty or rep. -
Hm... I made a Rad/Thermal on the first day of CoV, mainly based on how good the later powers look, but I've pretty much stopped playing her. She just doesn't feel anywhere near as good as my other two Corruptors, so far, and I've been worried that she just won't be much good in PvP, which is where I'm spending a lot of my time lately. Is it possible she'd actually be quite good in the later zones, though?
-
A "bit" hero heavy would be one way of putting the current situation.
Really... a fight night's a great idea, but until numbers even out more, calling for laods of people to come to the zone always just seems to end in a really one-sided fight.
I wanted to bring one of my Controllers out myself, but when I saw how few villains were around, got my Corruptor instead. I wish more people would do the same - I just don't see how this kind of thing is fun for either side. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah from using my Dark / Kinetics corrupter one really should slot Speed boost with Endurance Mods when its a secondary.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed. My Ice/Dark Corruptor can eat through a Kin Corruptor's SB very easily. -
[ QUOTE ]
Maybe implement it that if you get killed, your bounty gets transferred to the one that killed you (or.. equally spread based on amount of damage).
[/ QUOTE ]
I would really hate to see this in place. It'd just lead to people running from fights even more than they currently do, and be a big slap in the face to those of us who like to just battle to the death. I really can't see it'd add anything to the zone either - it'd just be frustrating.
I don't really see how it'd make in-game sense, either, come to think of it. People being able to steal your meteor fragments or codes in the other PvP zones makes sense, but I'd imagine the bounty system is just kept track of by the opposing sides. Why would they wipe out everything you'd earnt? You still took out the people they wanted you to take out, regardless of whether you stayed alive in the process. -
[ QUOTE ]
For some reason I do not get double damage when I use brawl on a frozen enemy. Brawl is my main attack so I don't really have much choice, I also noticed that the new temp power you get until level 10 also doesn't give double damage.
Is this a bug, working as intended, being looked into?
G-Force
[/ QUOTE ]
As others have said, WAI. I'm pretty sure I remember a red name confirming this, but I think it was before the board wipe. From what I remember, it was stated that only primary, secondary, and pool powers would do Containment damage, meaning that temp powers don't, and Brawl doesn't because it's inherent. -
No, it's certainly not a bad choice, although you may well find you want to try out a few different combination until you find one that feels right to you.
There are a few threads about the Sonic sets, including this one, in which both the Sonic primary and secondary were discussed. You might get some ideas from there. There are a number of powers in the Sonic secondary that you can only use on other players, meaning you may find if you want to solo a lot, a different secondary may be best, or you might just want to skip those powers. -

[ QUOTE ]
(Ignite isn't useful really unless your secondary is ice or you team a lot with AoE immbbing people).
[/ QUOTE ]
Both /Devices, /Elec and /Fire have ST immobs, though - Web Grenade, Electric Fence, Ring of Fire respectively. /Energy is the only secondary without an immob, in fact.
[/ QUOTE ]But ignite really isn't that useful for just one guy
[/ QUOTE ]
I dunno, having seen Syn TP a mob onto Caltrops, a Trip Mine, and an Ignite patch... well, I don't know enough about Ar/Dev to know how good it is, but it's certainly amusing. -
[ QUOTE ]
Heya,
After trying this out over a few nights, and comparing it with the effect that radiation infection has, RI seems to be way more effective yet that should not be the case, right? Of course peoples slotting could well have been different so I might just be imagining things, but I might also be right. Does anyone else find it doesn't help you out that much?
Haz-Mat
[/ QUOTE ]
I've not noticed any problems on my Ice/Dark Corruptor. Though, you know, if the devs want make it better, I wouldn't complain.
I do say that not comparing it to RI though, since my only toon with RI is a Controller, and I don't really have her build in a reasonable state for PvP at the moment. I'm just going on the fact that I can stand toe-to-toe with a lot of Scrappers without any problem - I have more trouble with people with builds highly specialised for PvP, and people with Aim and Build Up, but I figured that was to be expected. -
[ QUOTE ]
now ED is in and an empath cant cover that distance as well, thus teaming around the same range is required, this means less time needed healing as the damage incoming isnt as high, which nets a empath needing to do less healing.
in which case, what are they doing the other times? if a empath in my team sat and waited for 'something to do' then i'd kick em! they have secondaries, use em!
[/ QUOTE ]
Now ED is in, I'm actually busier than before on my Empath. People take more damage than they used to. They get hit more often. If I'm in a mission with a number of squishies in, doing missions where they might get mezzed, my primary can easily be a full-time job and then some! And even when I could team with people six levels over me, they were only fighting in their own level range, so they didn't really take more damage than a team at my own level would have - and I didn't even have trouble back then healing a tank way ahead of me in levels, because I had six-slotted Absorb Pain.
As far as Empaths who aren't attacking not doing anything... my Empath is built without Stamina, and with two unslotted attacks - Power Push (almost no damage, but knockback), and Air Superiority. They're defensive measures, and if I or someone else is in trouble, I can help keep a mob down so they can't do damage. But that's it - it's just not worth me attacking most of the time, because they have no damage slotted in them, and I'd quickly use up my endurance. Endurance that I need to be able to heal and buff. By giving up Stamina and my attacks, I've been able to fit in a full set of Leadership, Recall Friend, and everything from my primary, as well as a handy selection of things from my ancillary pool that help me survive and generally do better as an Empath. I have everything slotted up to improve my performance as an Empath. As is, even if I am standing around "doing nothing," I'm buffing the entire team... and even in quiet moments, I'm also keeping a close eye on everyone's health and endurance, and keeping track of who needs buffs, who needs CM. I know that personally, I'd have a much harder job keeping track of who needs what, and getting it to them on time, if I were busy blasting.
So, if you're teaming with an Empath and it looks like they're not doing a whole lot right at that moment, check the team window, and look at the buffs. If multiple people are forted, most of team's CMed, there are Leadership buffs showing, and everyone's health and endurance is doing fine? That Empath's probably a rather busy one, even if they're not using powers constantly.
(Just to note, this is in NO way to bash those Empaths who take more attacks, because I'm well aware that what works for me, won't work well for everybody - we all have our own playstyles.)
