  1. 1376 for Frigid Bridget on Pinnacle, thanks in large part to Jane Reaction's tireless and selfless leadership. Never did get Disruptor, though I was over 70% of the way to Empath without gladiator farming. Still might get Really Hard Way before the lights go out...
  2. My earliest screenshot is from May 2004. So even though I haven't been continuously subscribed, I recreated my character from beta as soon as the game went live: Frigid Bridget @ Pinnacle, as of today, 1360. Represent.

(Still need a few Mo Incarnate trials, naturally.)

Of course, for me Flash freeze is worse than useless. People can't seem to sleep around me what with all the lightning, tornadoes and freezing rain.
I had glacier forever ago, dropped it in my first respec and never looked back. Well-slotted hover here as well, bound to a key so I can constantly turn it on and off to use Hurl Boulder and Fissure. Which I took for the sheer love of them back before Earth Mastery had Seismic Smash.

Old school? This one's been around since beta, and her build hasn't changed since purples when she converted from franken-HO to franken IO HO:

I particularly enjoy the mag 17 knockback protection, and the potential for a mag 18 hold in two moves and under 4 seconds (supplanted by a couple of Lightning Storms firing off their own additional hold proc). But the "in your face" style of hurricane, and keeping things knocked on their keister, has been a joy since long before ancillary powers and IO's. Second oldest character on my account and always, always, still the most fun to play long after hitting 50. (And I felt that way before Incarnate powers, which only added to the fun.)

Oh, I now recall that when we got inherent Fitness was when I took Shiver, Assault and Arctic Air. Otherwise this build has been the same since a few months after IO's were introduced.
  4. Wow, client went non responsive with all graphics settings on minimum, when all I did was log in and try to look at my player info. Obviously I don't dare try to actually play. Been this way about a month now...just happened one day, without even any patch to seemingly cause it.

Latest logfile, from the abovementioned crash:

  5. Nope, it's an Nvidia. I'm certainly not going to run out and buy a Mac and start letting Steve Jobs take a runny dump on me while singing about how it's actually magical unicorn manure that'll solve all my problems if I just click Submit. As for Linux, I suppose it's theoretically possible to run CoH under wine and get mostly equal to possibly better than native results, and as long as it's not any WORSE than Windows I suppose I might give it a shot, but at this point the slightest bump in the road would get me to instantly bail without hesitation. No, better to ditch this ridiculous x86 monstrosity that's literally retarded computing progress for over thirty years, that infected the once-halfway decent Mac with its nonsense, that cripples even a somewhat-not-sucky OS like Linux. After banging your head long enough, you either keep whining about headaches, or you wise up. "The only way to win is not to play."

Bless your heart, CoH. You were the only graphical MUD that ever caught my fancy. I'll always love you, but the universe is clearly telling me it's time to move on.
  6. Somehow my roommate fixed this problem. I have no idea quite exactly how, it involved a long complicated series of steps. But then when I logged in, I found all my settings had reverted to minimum graphics, and when I tried to increase them...client lockup. I try again this morning. Decide to start small. Menu, Player Info and....client lockup.

And all this for no apparent reason, mere weeks after a new video card and the recent stability improvements had led me to believe the long nightmare was finally over. But I should have known. Windows must die, x86 must die, and I think after seven years I'm finally done. I love this game, but the price of allowing Bill Gates and Andy Grove to take a runny dump on me every day for the last couple of decades has grown too high. City of Heroes is the last thing shackling me to this horrible world, and no matter how much I love this game, it's just not worth it.
  7. Darn. I've been having this problem for a few days now -- client goes non-responsive after I select a server. Tried deleting the directory with my account name as described above, but no fix.
  8. I've been asking for Female Huge since beta.

    No love.
  9. Had to fix mine recently when the devs' own description for a mob became too long

    Storming the Palace by @Ololiuhqui
    #174178
    Neutral
Medium tough but should be soloable by most
Summary: First of a planned mini-origin for my main. I always wanted to fight my evil twin, and now you can too!
  10. I can't believe I did this! I was originally just going to go for all the non-publishing badges, but before I knew it one morning I was lured into the editor and had my first draft in an hour with no tutorials... polished a bit over the last week and here it is, the evil twin mini-arc I always wanted:

    Arc 144661: Storming the Palace
    Morality: Neutral
    Length: Long (4 missions)

The only real lack is not having an actual Storm Palace outdoor instance for the final mission. Hope y'all enjoy my journeyman effort -- looking forward to playing and rating yours!

Many times in the teams I've been on people have asked for a Rad Controller. When I've said how about a Rad Defender, you know because they DeBuff more, they've said they'd rather have someone who can do actual damage. It's mind boggling but it happens.

[/ QUOTE ]It's not mind-boggling at all. This is the natural consequence of so very many defenders choosing to totally neglect their secondary powerset. You simply cannot count on the average defender being able to do any damage whatsoever. Anecdotal case in point, I picked up two high-30s defenders off LFT last night and between the two of them they had seven slots in offense. Total. The potential for defenders to do damage is there, far more damage (and more intelligently directed) than any controller pet can hope to deal, but very rarely is that potential met.

There's not much you can do design-wise when the root of the problem is that the players are intentionally neutering themselves instead of taking the tools available. (IMO, this is also the problem Blasters have, as a whole they ignore their control and high damage powers and then wonder why they're fragile and deal lackluster damage)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Probably because of so many times a defender showed up on a team with any slots in their secondary at all, and the resulting outcry as if the Almighty had reached out and pinky-slapped a kitten's head clean off. As you say, hardly mind-boggling.
  12. My only real reason for expecting rather high rent is Statesman's recent statement that Single Origin enhancements are too affordable.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Personally I'm not that hepped on the idea of paying rent to maintain a base. Rent was one of the big fun killers for a lot of MUDs, and when I'm already paying "real" rent to play CoH, the idea of having to constantly play in order to maintain my base does NOT sound worth it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm worried about the rent as well. My SG consists to 10 (count 'em, 10) RL friends that just wanted to play together. We haven't accepted anyone else into the SG, nor do we plan to. It seems that we'll have a hard time paying the bills if we have a base that can compare to a base of a full 75 member SG.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Even in a big SG, if not everyone plays constantly the bills could get pretty big. Particularly if the leader is a frustrated interior decorator with a tchotchke obsession.

Off the top of my head, I'd consider it "more fair" and less impacting on enjoyment if you could simply outright purchase a "basic base", on a sliding scale according to size, without having to pay extra for anything that was strictly visual (different tilesets, etc) -- but if you want to add something that actually makes the base more powerful, like alarm system, traps and weaponry, those would require some form of ongoing rent in order to maintain them.
  14. Personally I'm not that hepped on the idea of paying rent to maintain a base. Rent was one of the big fun killers for a lot of MUDs, and when I'm already paying "real" rent to play CoH, the idea of having to constantly play in order to maintain my base does NOT sound worth it.
  15. Is it possible to enable the user interface in recorded demos?
  16. [ QUOTE ]

P.S. Feedback from any who have tried this TF since the most recent patch, starting fresh or not and whether this is working for you currently or not will be very helpful. Thank you again.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I just checked and I'm still unable to talk to Ms Liberty to continue my existing Manticore, even after this morning's patch. Like others, I'm very close to leveling and would rather avoid having to start over.
