Alright here is the build I came up with. It looks alright, but I think it could be better but I'm unsure of where and what to fix. So any help is very much appreciated.

So I'm getting close to 50, and I'm having a blast on this toon after having him benched for months though I can't figure out why. He's a ton of fun, but any way I'm not sure which would be better for him. Soft capped s/l/m or soft capped range defense?
I like to be at range right now at the moment due to my squishiness as a blaster, but I really enjoy getting into melee and firing off my build up > burn > fire sword circle > combustion chain, and quickly followed by Hail of bullets if there's any left. I also plan on trying to fit Spring attack into the build and start my melee chain off with that. I figure the knockdown will up my suvivability.
So guess I'm just looking for some advice, and if you want to post a build that's fine but it's not needed. Thanks in advance =)
EDIT: Also the title should read Softcap... I forgot the cap >. -
Thank you for all the helpful ideas.
I decided to roll a Dark/Dark after thinking long and hard on it, and I'm surely not regretting my decision. He is currently at level 15 and as stated already he just seems to get better everytime he dings a new level.
For Elec/ I decided on a Elec/Earth and not regretting that decision either. He's only level 11 atm, but the two sets mesh very well together. Conductive Aura requires me in melee mostly which seems to be what /Earth is focused around more so than range and it's a blast.
Definitely what I needed, and I'm not looking back.
Quote:... I just have to return to this and ask why you feel you have to be "sitting in the back?" *Especially* with Elec/Rad?
I mean, roll the doms, they're a freaking blast to play, but it sounds like you've been selling your 'trollers short.
Controllers are awesome don't get me wrong, but they just weren't for me. I suppose putting it as sitting in the back was inaccurate, but slythetic is completely right when he said I was looking for damage which Controllers don't do much of. I mean with /Rad it was easier to do more than average, but it still wasn't enough for me. I play mostly Brutes and I love being in the center of the fight, or just dealing damage in general.
Simply put. I'm the guy you look for to deal damage, not support.
I was thinking about rolling this combo next after I've dinged 50 on the first two, because it does sound fun. -
So yeah the title pretty much says it all. I am considering trying Doms since I hate sitting on the side lines and prefer to be out there dealing damage. The fact I can lock down a mob as well makes it even better. I used to have a Dom way back when CoV first came out who was a Grav/Energy and my experience wasn't very good as I didn't like it so much.
I currently have two Controllers: A elec/rad who is level 50, and a dark/dark who is level 32. Where they have both proven to be good as I mentioned before I don't really like sitting in the back healing, buffing and debuffing. I want to be in the fight.
Any way I love Electric Control. It's a very fun set and just looks cool. Darkness Control though I'm still learning each of the powers, it has potential to be just as good in my opinion and I like my shadowy puppy =P
So here's my question. What are good secondaries to pair with both Elec/ and Dark/ ? -
After reading the lasts two post I was wondering if going the Range route wasn't a bad idea after all. I mean if you get Spring Attack, you can use that which knocks anything under a boss to the ground giving you time to hit Soul Drain then get out of melee and back into range to fire off your attacks. Would this work as well as I think, or not?
Edit: Before hitting Spring Attack you could throw a Dark Pit on the mob which would up your chances of survival a little bit while in melee don't you think? -
Alright so s/l def it is then.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice, and the builds look good too. I'll definitely be working some of the things I've seen in them into my build (which I'll post once it's done).
Also my blaster was made on villain side so no switching required for me to be able to have access to scorpion shield =D ...Just the patron arc needing to be done. -
So I haven't played many Blasters, and I've finally gotten one to 50 that I like, and now it's time to start thinking about getting IO's slotted into him. So the question is which is more ideal to shoot for? Ranged defense or S/L defense? If it helps the blaster I have is a Fire/Dark, and I'm not much of a Blapper not because I don't like it, because I have a nag for ending up in the center of the fight. I'm just not very good at it. So I'll be staying at range mostly with an occasional fly by in the center though with a possible Dark Pit/Oppressive Gloom combo I may end up in there a bit more often than I'd like to admit. That's if I go Soul Mastery, but it depends on what I go for as far as Def. So what do you think?
-
Wasn't sure where to put this so figured I would put it here, but I love the XP Boosters. They're a big help. However something I would really like is if they could be able to be mailed, but only account wide.
I sometimes find myself claiming more than I need and once I don't need them anymore I think it's kinda dumb for them to just sit on a level 50 character. They don't count for incarnate xp so there's really no point in having them on the toon anymore.
So what I'm saying is that I would just like to be able to transfer the ones I have left over to another character that can actually use them, but on the same account of course. -
Hey so I was looking to make a new controller, and prefer to not use any sets that I've used on other toons (the whole looking for new experiences). Any way I haven't tried Illusion or Kinetics, and I was wondering if these two sets had any synergy? Would it be an ideal combo and if so. How would I go about the building process as far as powers I should take and should avoid? I don't have much experience with trollers other than the elec/rad I have so any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have both at level 50+1 and even though using giant weapons of death to smash is a lot of fun. I'd have to pick my StJ/Shield Brute for theme and most fun. Maybe it's just me wanting to be the odd one of the bunch (considering everyone had picked TW it seems) but yeah StJ all the way though like some have said. You really can't go wrong with either.

Quote:I don't really plan on running many incarnate trials... If anything I'll be trying the solo/small team route in DA when i22 goes live. Which consist of high leveled BP and CoT from what I've seen, but I'm thinking I'll still go with your idea. I tend to always go softcap s/l/m but what you're talking about would be something completely new for me and I'm curious to see how it performs. Thank you for the much needed help =)Hmmm. If you slot for ranged and downslot melee, the value of s/l slotting diminishes. Right now, the s/l only covers ranged/aoe s/l damage. I would recommend running lower melee defense, drop slotting for s/l entirely, and go for ranged softcap. The rationale is that e/n and psi damage are largely ranged, which you have a gaping defence hole for. Using defsweep to softcap melee and having a generic softcap on range allows you to manage incoming ranged n/e damage from bots, esp warworks, and psi from seers. The reason you want to max your chances of defending against those attacks is that both warworks and seers have def-debuffing powers, and any that hit will make it even easier for you to get hit. Example of this would be warwork pulse rifle. Plus, maxing out your melee softcap w/o def sweep begets the purpose of having it in the first place. You can run a flat 30% melee def and still softcap with a single successful hit. Wether you opt to build for aoe defence as well is a different story. If you want, I can post my build (the hard way) so you can get an idea what I managed to pull together. It is by far the most survivable char I have ever had, and totally trashes my FA tank for all around durability.
edit: My build might be considered pricey, and I blew 90 enh boosters on it to get where I did.... just so I could run level 30 content at max enh bonus, and level 50 content at unboosted enh values. -
My def numbers w/ glad proc are:
s/l - 45.4%
e/n - 27.3%
f/c - 23.5%
psi - 22.3%
Melee - 44.1%
Ranged - 26.6%
AoE - 24.8%
This is for both builds btw. So add the 13% i get from Defensive Sweep and it only really helps me in incarnate trials.
Take out the glad proc and I'm still in pretty decent shape (42.4% s/l and 41.1% melee) -
Alright so I've seen a few of these around in game, and was curious to try one so I made a build up for it first and the numbers are looking pretty good in my opinion. However, I'm not sure if I should keep Defensive Sweep or not. Any ideas?
Here's the original build w/ Defensive Sweep.

Tina will truely be missed. She was a good hearted person and I enjoyed the times that I was able to spend with her whether it was in CoH or for the brief time I played WoW. No matter where it was we always had tons of fun laughing, getting into trouble, just good times. She even roleplayed babysitting mine and our friend Jacqui's toon's kids which was histerical, because they were little devils who enjoyed playing "vroom vroom".
I had the chance to talk with her earlier this week and I'm glad I did, but finding out earlier today that she had passed was very sad news, and at first I couldn't believe it. I would like to give my deepest condolences, and best wishes to Thorgar and the girls.
Tina, I am happy that I had the chance of meeting you, and even more happy that I was able to call you a friend for the past couple of years. I will miss you.
Justin (aka Johnny Incinerator)
---------------------------
I would also like to post a message from Tina's friend Jacqui per her request.
From Temper Mental:
Tina and I spent hundreds of hours talking, giggling and laughing together on ventrilo. We role-played together in more than one MMO and for years I have had the privilege of calling her one of my dearest friends online. She was the type of friend that you could tell your darkest secrets or share your saddest moments and she always knew how to make you smile again no matter how terrible you felt.
Weve role-played sisters in both WoW and CoH and though we lost touch from time to time, she was always the friend that as soon as we ran into each other, it was as if we never stopped talking because we just picked up right where we left off.
This sad news was passed on to me from a friend and when I read the post it truly felt as if someone had punched me in the stomach. I cant begin to tell you how sad I am knowing that there will be no more late night giggling on vent or just sitting there gabbing about our day together; no more picking up our conversations as if they never stopped. I cant even begin to imagine the loss her family is feeling right now and my heart and prayers go out to them. She was a beautiful friend and a wonderful woman who will be missed dearly.
They say that as people come in and out of your life, some leave having made you a better person. Tina was one of those people, a true angel of a friend who I know moved on to a beautiful place.
Ill miss you Lys.

So I have yet to try Dark Blast on a Blaster since being added and was wondering how it compares to the other blast sets? I was thinking of pairing it with /mental maybe as I already have a /darkness (My fire/darkness blaster) which I'm having a blast with. Point is I would really like to try it and was just wondering those who have played it. What do you think of the set? Are the changes made good or bad for the set as a whole?
-
I can't deny that I'm really excited for the set, but at the same time I am also slightly disappointed. Some of the others here make good points.
First off. I have to agree that it is kinda lame they're using the same model for two sets because since masterminds have been playable. Their pets have always been unique and used by no other AT (Robots, demons, thugs). Beast Mastery should be no different and should remain unique
I also agree with plainguy on the dark control T9 pet. They could've used the new Ravager and just made us a smaller version (They do look pretty badass, and like gremlins I would love one as a pet)
Quote:I would have to disagree. I think the lions fit well into the set and instead of a dire wolf. They should've added a bear or something. Beast mastery is generally about controlling many types of beasts and not just one. So in my opinion if any of the 3 pet summoning powers needs a fixing it's the Summon Dire Wolf.Wolves, Lions and another Wolf? The Lions seem out of place. Perhaps it could be changed to get a third type of wolf - perhaps Alpha Wolves (which perhaps summons an Alpha [Damage Bonuses] and a Beta [Defense Bonuses]) rather than Lions?
The Lions just sound... out of place. The Swarm, Hawk and Locusts seem okay though. -
So I've been wanting to make a brute version of a toon of mine, and I can't seem to settle on just one build that I really want to play. I feel like I've played everything I would like whether they were paired with another set, and so forth. Any way it would probably help if I mentioned what I was looking at. Right now I'm thinking of Dark melee/willpower, or dark melee shield.
I've played dark melee before (paired with /elec), and same with /willpower (broadsword and super strength) and /shield (with MA and elec melee). Now I've seen both of these combinations in action, and the dm/wp seems stronger as far as survivability goes, and dm/shield stronger as far as damage goes.
I know /shield doesn't really shine until getting some IO's slotted to hit soft cap, and then the added -tohit will just make it even better. I figure it's the same with /willpower too since it has a decent amount of def. The added -tohit will make you more survivable.
Any way basically what I'm wanting from this toon is...
- to be able to be lead tank on a team (granted an actual tanker isn't present)
- to be able to do a nice amount of damage, and as I stated above to be survivable.
- to just be able to do the above, and have fun (don't we all =P)
I think that's all I really have. The toon has a demon theme to him so if anyone feels that there are other builds I can work with as far as brutes go. Feel free to throw out your ideas, and thank you in advance. -
Thanks for the replies. So basically the brute has the taunt over the scrapper, and the scrapper has a slightly higher damage output than the brute?
Hmmm. Think I'm going to go with a brute on this one since I'm going to want to farm, tank, etc. So that extra taunt effect would be nice. -
So I've been looking to make a DM/Fire, but can't decide on which to go with. A scrapper or a brute? I know both have their own styles, and I know generally scrappers do better damage, but I'm wanting to get some opinions on which of the two others have found to be better overall and more survivable.

As the title says, I'm looking for a good build for my Dark Melee/Shield Defense Scrapper who just recently dinged 50. Now I've read around the forums about what this build could be good for and as far as what I'm looking for is a solid AV solo'er, and going to occasionally be running TF's with him as well. I'm willing to spend between 1 to 2 billion on him, and hope I can get a pretty good build with that. Also wondering what Epic/Patron pool would be recommended for this build. All advice is welcomed and if you have a build, that would be great. Thank you.

Hey all,
I've been looking around for a build made for sapping endurance from the mobs, leaving them completely drained with no ability to really attack and just being able to mow through the mobs, but haven't been able to really find much on it. I remember coming across someone who had a build like this in a farm and she was just amazing, though she was obviously not Mu Mastery.
Anyway I have no idea where to start with building one, I tried a few days ago in Mid's but ran out of slots, so any help and/or ideas would be welcomed, also I want to make this a Pre i19 build, which means no fitness pool picked as it will be an inherant come i19.
