I'm sorta a sidelines fan of Transformers, so..... yeah.

Nice to know they're working more of 'em in there. Now they just need some multi-national robots and the obligatory handicapped one (robot in a wheelchair?) and the Politically Correct Transformers will be complete.

I have to admit, whenever I see Optimus Prime with a mouth, I get an urge to giggle.

I know it's just a personal viewpoint thing and from being used to the older designs, but I can't help it. It always strikes me as slightly comical.

That's not casting any judgements on the actual quality of the series; I'll save that until it's out. The animation looked just fine to me and it at least looks to be pretty action heavy. And hey, Arcee's in it! Get Black Arachnia in there and it'll probably be the most estrogen any Transformers series has had, ever.
  5. I always liked going to a shop. The one in my town closed, so I went to another that was about a 45 minute drive away. Then that one closed.

After that I caved in and started using dcbservice.com. You have to order like a month in advance, but you get just about everything at a nice discount. Back issues though, you're gonna have to look elsewhere.

I haven't ordered a ton of stuff, but when I do I usually use mycomicshop.com or just amazon.

Please tell me you're talking about the comic and NOT the movie.

If you're going to change Superman's origin for the purpose of this tale, you would almost have to.
But it wouldn't be the 1950s in the regular comics anymore either, would it?

How old is Clark? 30s, 40s?

    P.S.

Geez Durakken, ease up on the "you're stupid" talk. Folks hit the thread for some good ol' fashioned Twilight-hatin' and suddenly people are jumpin' all over 'em for it.

One might say they're over-reacting to the over-reaction.

I just never feel good when it's implied that the Batman movies are suddenly too serious for it's source material. It just reminds me of the early days of comic book movies when the aspects of the actual comic were mostly just thrown out right off the bat because "that funny-book stuff won't translate to movies".

It's not quite the same thing, since Nolan's being very faithful to the tone of the character; but as soon as someone says, "oh, so-and-so won't work in the more serious Nolan movies", it sets off alarm bells in my head.

Part of the draw to Batman is his crazy rogues gallery. Heck, look at how underwhelming Arkham was in the first movie. Arkham Asylum is practically a character all by itself; but in Begins, it was downright forgettable.

I just find it troubling (and a bit lazy of the filmmakers) to simply not use a character cause they're "not serious enough". I'm already feeling bummed that Nolan has already said no super-powered criminals will show up. The movies are just so good, I can't help but think how cool it'd be to see Poison Ivy or Killer Croc in there. But we never will, cause those characters are too silly for Mr. Nolan's Batman epic.

Eh, I thought the PC was actually getting a bit of a resurgence thanks to Steam and stuff like it. I have no numbers on the subject as I don't care enough to look them up, but just about everyone I know seems to be eating Steam up.

I think the PC is staying in the game for several reasons. While it's true that games have requirements that must be met by your computer, that aspect actually attracts some people. I think it's that whole "customization" thing that really tech-savvy people get off on.

Mods are another big draw for the PC. I had Max Payne 1 & 2 for my X-Box, but I eventually bought them on the cheap for the PC; just cause I could give Max cooler bullet-time moves and a sword!

Basically it's all about doing what the consoles can't. Again, Steam being a prime example. Also the interface. For games like Dragon Age and.... well, City of Heroes; a mouse and keyboard are just better.

    HAH!

    Lightweight!

Sim's version is probably my second favorite. My number one is probably George C. Scott's. While not perfect (tubby Scrooge is a little odd), the actors all did such awesome jobs that I can forgive just about everything else. Also, it has the best Tiny Tim by far. The kid looked like he was on the verge of keeling over through the whole movie.

Scrooge (the musical) and Scrooged I don't really count in with the rest since they're a musical and reimagining respectively. But both still rank in my Favorite Movies list.

Of course, I kind of collect versions of A Christmas Carol and will watch all of them around Christmas time. Even the Kelsey Grammer made-for-TV musical. But only once and with someone else there to help me riff on it.

  15. Couldn't we get an older, beefier actor to be Supes for once.

I always thought of Clark as a burly farm hand stuffed into a suit.

Eh, that's not so easy to buy since he spent no time there. All his childhood memories are from Kansas; he didn't really have any direct link to Krypton.

Sure, it might knock ya for a loop when you find out you're the last of your kind, but considering he looks and functions pretty much like a human, I don't think it's that big a thing.

Does he have reason to be a little whistful or melancholy now and then?

    Definitely.

    But "brooding"?

Naw, I still don't think so.

  18. Y'know, your brooding cred pretty much flatlines as soon as you bust out the bright blue bodysuit.

I feel bad that "brooding" has almost become a dirty word these days. Mostly from cases like this, were it is shoe-horned in where it doesn't belong.

A brooding character only works if he has an overwhelming amount of tragedy to brood ABOUT. Too often characters seem to have jumped out of bad fanfiction; with writers wanting to have the brooding but without the emotional desolation it should stem from.

Now, unless they change something drastically in this new series, Clark has had a good upbringing, parents who love him, and abilities any human would kill for. He has nothing to brood about.

No, he may not "fit in" (though that should be what the Clark Kent persona is for), but that's cause for being socially awkward, not a brooding emo-twerp. Given his good position in life, Clark'll just come off as whiney and petty. Not brooding.

Cause.... y'know.... dead characters coming back to life hardly EVER happens in comics.

Oh wait, they come back evil?

    Well THAT'S even MORE rare!
