I agree with this sort of. I think some powers that have ground restrictions should not, however some that do not have ground restrictions should.

You say Hot Feet has no reason for a ground restriction. I think it does. I mean it makes your Feet become Hot. If your Feet are not on the ground, how do they get Hot? How do you make the ground Hot if your character is not on the ground to make it Hot with his or her Feet? HOT FEET.

    HOT.

    FEET.

    ON THE GROUND.

So many of you who say /dev is just fine say this. Allow me to retort.

What I want to play is a working /devices powerset, and it's impossible to have fun with it broken like it is. While I love to make a thematic build, I'm not going to play a theme that is so broken that it hinders people around me just so I can say at least I followed my hearts desire. That is not fun to me.
  3. I'm sitting here staring at my mids for hours. I have discovered the ultimate build for my brute, which is beyond top secret due to the extremity with which my brute will rock faces. However, I have one question nagging at my mind, and I'm wondering if it's the exhaust port on my death star.

Smashing/Lethal defense vs Melee. To my understanding the game makes a check against one for attacks, whichever one is higher. It would seem smashing/lethal covers most if not all melee attacks and is much easier to cap.

Are there any melee attacks that are not smashing/lethal? Is having a melee defense redundant with a high smashing/lethal defense or vice versa?

  5. Devices is very bad. Every other powerset has quite a lot of useful powers, devices is a leftover powerset from a time when the game was very different and still hasn't been touched. What countless arguements otherwise have pointed out time and time again is that some people like to play bad powersets.

That said: a device blaster helped my fire/fire/fire considerably with caltrops on a BAF. Thanks for slowing mobs so I could AoE them. Many, many sets could do it just as well, but thanks you /dev blaster for bringing that one power to the table. While you stand there summoning things that never appear and otherwise being useless, you at least allowed me to blast nice groups of targets.
  6. So I was at this little party and I picked up a '7 yrs and going strong title' from Avatea

What she didn't tell me is how to get rid of it after the party

    How to remove this title?

    Time Bomb

That's fine that you do have it and you may even use it. Do you use it effectively though? Are the seconds spent finding an area to set it, setting it up, getting hit with splash from something, moving to another spot, punching it repeatedly until your power finally does set, at which point your team has moved on past you, is that part really what you would consider effective? Does this power require the use of several other powers to be effective, such as stealth and smokebomb, or is it effective on it's own?

I think it's great that you like having different blasters with different playstyles, but I cannot honestly believe you have this power, use it regularly, and consider that it is working as it should be. If the devs came down from their magical floating skycastle and granted you time bombs that did less damage but set up instantly with a delayed blast (a delayed blast fireball) which no other powerset has, which still makes them unique just much more easy to control, you would be up in arms against changing it to allow you to use it on a team effectively with everyone else? Are you against it just because you like to solo or run off on your own all the time, and don't care how another player might want to be able to use this power and still bring value to their team?

The reason I'm so agitated about this subject is I played a fire/dev blaster to 45. I deleted it and rerolled a better toon. It's 50 now, and my main, and I love blasting. I like the idea of devices, but as they stand the powerset is mostly just an defect from a primative time in CoH history which is in my opinion firmly been waiting a long time for a second look by the devs. Until then, it is non-existant to me.
  8. I considered it, yes

I couldn't work it into a build without losing damage elsewhere though

the control element is supersceeded by most teams blazing through trash enemies like paper and also already having cinders

    Time Bomb

I think regardless of wether you have somehow found a use for Time Bomb by running ahead of groups and forcing others to play around your horrible power set, the effectiveness of this power is entirely negated if you are focusing on this power in any way. The time spent setting up bombs would easily be returned doubly by simply firing away mindlessly with your primary.

The devs need to relook at devices. Simple as that. The device set was nerfed back when Jack was still around making entire powersets useless and ignoring things like ice tanks being entirely broken and certain classes having no value at all. In the years since then it hasn't been touched.
  10. Maybe it's just BAF lag making me think I have that much recharge

    do ho ho ho!
  11. Awhile back I posted here with some pretty general questions about blaster damage for specifically fire/fire

so I tried adding a decimation, chance for buildup, to flares... and spamming flares with blaze thrown in gave me something like

    flare->flare->blaze

It seemed really good, especially for hitting that proc. Then I saw someone had posted the best rotation as

    blaze->blast->flare

Now I've cranked up the recharge quite a bit since then. I can now just do

    blast->blaze

dropping flares entirely. So without any real way of showing my dps on screen that I know of, what's the best damage rotation?

Well, now that's stretching it, isn't it?

Thematically, your average Skull should run away from anyone chucking a giant boulder, throwing ice, setting off fireballs, creating tornados. Well, if we want to be thematic, they should just run away from anyone in tights unless they are +5 levels or something. Jack had a lot of 'ideas' and most of them like this made no sense.

I have no problem with a pyre of fire being forced to be on the ground, but saying mobs particularly are afraid of one power more than another, a power which isn't a FEAR power in itself, is silly.
  13. You might think it's fine from a mmo game balance perspective, I think it's not okay from a 'it doesn't make sense' perspective.

You say if you take footstomp, it doesn't allow you to take fly. I say if you're going to take fly, why take footstomp?

Who is right? The answer then is neither, because they are opinions. I'm glad however that the devs seem to side with me though.

'Why don't powers work the way I like?' should be your real question. And the answer is 'because they don't'.
  14. What's the optimal attack chain for DM/FA for single target?

AoE seems pretty easy to figure out, but I feel my single target is not what it should be.

    First VR

tonight, right now, I just got my first VR across all accounts and characters.

    yay!
  16. ITF

merits are still pretty useful imo in addition to waves of baddies
  17. In need of a makeover or what?

Look, Seige and Nightstar are all new fangled high rez with all sorts of cool robot bits and stuff

Luminary and Citadel look really sad by comparison

I support wasting dev time on updating their appearances to equal or exceed their praetorian counterparts.
  18. The day AFTER I do hours and hours of research and mids and spending inf and respeccing...

Oh well, maybe I'll post my build too when I get home and you can laugh at me.
  19. I've been playing trials every night since they started

    0 VR drops

I'm not spending money to buy them

I don't think the empyrean merits are awarding correctly either. I've done missions after the 20 hour cooldown and not recieved them.

And I just thought to add, every one of my 4 slots is sitting there maxed out with tier 3's cause I keep making them. I've really got nothing else to make.
  20. Fire/fire/fire blaster here

total VR's since I20 released trials and I did 1-3 every night

    0

    ZERO

    ;_;

edit: it's my belief that certain attacks do not count towards 'participation' still. Pets, Mastermind pets, targeted AoE all seem to reduce your likelyhood of rewards. Possibly damage taken as well. I notice my characters that are mostly punching things -always- get much better rewards.
  21. I've never cared at all to sacrifice anything for defense

Then again, I'm fire/fire/fire and Rise of the Pheonix recharges very quickly for me. If I do die, I have a brief window of invulnerability, plus it will be back up very quickly.

As Blue says, in a team defense hardly matters anyway.
  22. Devices overall is an ancient set that has been Nerfed to the Ground (tm).

Sadly, it's not until late that you really begin to notice how deficient the entire secondary is compared to just about every single other one. I had a long time 45 fire/devices blaster I finally deleted and rerolled as fire/fire, leveled to 50 in a couple weeks, and I've never looked back (now my main toon).

It's not just the awful gun drone which does realatively nothing for you in combat. Look at Caltops, the weakened cousin of most rain effects. Targeting drone which gives slightly more to hit (not to be confused with accuracy) at the expense of far too much end and means you will never have aim or any clickable buff power which are all vastly better. Stealth well... you have stealth power pool which is just better and offers more versitility.

The reason this whole set was hit so hard way back when was because between stealth and smoke grenade you had total invisibility. You could set a series of trip mines in about 10 seconds, stand way back and toss a fireball. It was the ultimate solo blaster method for clearing out groups with the effect of about 5-6 novas. People immediately screamed and cried for nerfs, and ol' States loved to nerf just about anyone and everything as fast and hard as possible. It wasn't just those power combinations that were unbalanced that took a hit, the whole set was flat out levelled. It hasn't been changed since.

Why do you think the devs don't have the idea if you already know it's a bug?
Devs often don't know about bugs. They don't play the same game we do if they are on a test build. They are a few people, we are thousands of players.

    ice/ice leveling

    Quote:
Slot for... accuracy, recharge... then damage.
Going to have to disagree here. I've got an ice/ice blaster around that level (might be 27 now) and all I did was slot damage until I started getting SO's.

Most of the ice aoe's have a very high chance to hit anyway and I find accuracy really doesn't help that much until it's an SO accuracy enhance.

Blaster's best defense is offense. The easiest thing to enhance is damage, regardless of actual blaster type.
