[/ QUOTE ]Just being nit-picky here, but it's not really comparable to Torrent. It's much narrower, does a very minor amount of Smashing damage, and does high mag Knockback, as opposed to Energy Torrent's Knockdown. Speaking of which, Energy Torrent is a -very- awesome power for Scrappers, Tankers and Controllers. Pre-reqs are a little uncool unless you have a thing for eyebeams.
I have one Scrapper at epic levels, but he's a */Fire so Tenebrous Tentacles are a given, really... Also, Dark Blast helps the horrible gap in my single target attack chain. I do use Torrent in indoor maps for bunching mobs tightly into corners for AoE madness. But, again, Darkness Mastery is a pretty obvious match for Spines/Fire...
I kinda like Web Grenade and Targeting Drone from Weapons because 1) Webnades do -Fly AND -Jump, which are sexy and somewhat rare, and 2) TD has a lovely tech feel for Scrappers, and I like the Technology origin. But those are rather personal reasons and do not apply to everyone, obviously. -

Correct, at least for early levels. Slotting for Damage is far from disadvantegous though, you should definitely slot for Damage. But you can skimp on it in favor of acc/end in early levels.

I've played all the primaries. They all work. I find Robotics to be the "worst", personally. High survivability doesn't make up for stupid amounts of knockback and nonexistant damage until the Assbot gets his freaking missles. Despite hating Robotics, I have a level 42 Bots/Traps MM. [censored] is it boring and lame though. But guess what, other people can like Bots. Just like how other people can like like Mercs, your opinion does not equal the absolute truth. Sure, they underperform compared to other MM primaries. But they do not underperform in general. None of the primaries do, except possibly Ninjas in the hands of an unskilled player. You weren't comparing MM primaries to each other in the part I was replying to, you were saying Mercs in general are useless on a team, which just shows you're talking out of your backside or from serious inexperience.
At least Mercs do more consistent damage and don't need one very specific power from Mu Mastery to deal optimal damage (Assbot knocks stuff out of its own burn patches, lulz) -
A little late, but a correction: Power Boost does not affect World of Pain or Painbringer at all.

I take back my logical viewpoint as it seems there's a few powers that allow both acc and tohit debuff enhancements, yet do not allow accurate tohit debuff enhancements, etc.

Well, Fiery Aura has -recharge resistance now. Though, you were going up against one of your powerset's particular weaknesses, so why complain?
And numerically I still fail to see how Shields is any weaker than other currently existing Defense sets. "Probably will never be" is just plain stupid. -

So what's the conclusion? The real 'issue' with Shield Defense is that it 'feels' weak?
Personally, I could say this about all Defense sets, from my own limited experience (level 37 Super Reflexes) with them. But I know they're not actually weak.
Still won't see me playing anything more defense based than Invulnerability though, most likely. But that's just me. -

[/ QUOTE ]I already applied critical hits. Without, a Brute only needs 50 Fury to outDPS a Scrapper. With, it'd be 60%. This is against an AV, of course - it drops lower versus minions since Scrappers only have a 5% crit rate against weak mobs. But that's off the topic.
Scrapper attacks deal exactly the same damage as Brute attacks of the same powerset without applying damage mods (since the shared powersets are muchly the same, aside from Taunt/Provoke, power order, and minor exceptions), but the Scrapper damage mod raises the base damage dealt higher than Brutes (Brutes have a very low damage mod). At zero Fury.
In an extended fight Fury will fluctuate between 80-95% depending on primary powerset and slotting/power choices. And it's not hard to build up that much Fury quickly against an AV, especially as Brutes get +5 Fury generation from attacks dealt versus AVs. -
Friday and saturday afternoons/evenings until waaaaay later than any other sane human would stay awake for.

Out of curiosity, are there any DEF (All Positional) powers? I know there's some that do both, too, but unsure about only positional in specific.

On a scrapper Midnight Grasp is fairly good too, even if just to keep the victim from running off so much. Not sure what effect the activation time has on fury though.

The brute has the potential to do more damage with it, if its kept back and only used on full fury. The rest of the time it will slow your chain and reduce your DPS

And sure, some Brutes can solo AVs. -
