In open beta, a lot of people play the set, and when the set is fixed to perform in the level it was intended, thousands of people cry "NERF!!!"
[/ QUOTE ]
Only thousands?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, the articulate yet hotheaded thousands cry nerf; then you have others who go into a long diatribe about cryptic and the mating habits of baboons, not to mentions the weird fascination that pops up with the little know leet creature. -
Wow, it is actually interesting to read this type of thread at each Beta period - they usually follow the same track (well, I10 did at least from what I remember).
I have my own thoughts on the matter but, seeing as how they would be targetted towards a certain sect of poster, it just isn't worth it to go into detail (as the sect will just go line by line and refute it to conform with their idea); The closed testing is good, having a pool of previous testers is good because they have an idea of what to look for. I have rarely seen people 'lord' the beta period over others (maybe I haven't looked hard enough?), but I would think that would be slightly disqualifying for future testing [its about the game, not being 'special'].
Anyhow - this thread will probably be pretty interesting by the time Open Beta comes around -
I say just let the closed thing continue - have the closed testers find as many horrid bugs as possible; thus, when it opens up, people can focus on what they want to test rather than what the dev's need testing. It isn't like the issue will go from Closed Testing straight to Live. If the selection of people is repeated, maybe it is because the last few issues have been relatively smooth for release; I am sure they are adding 'new blood' to the mix as well rather than just the same people. I have read some people who were in previous closed issues who haven't gotten into this one.

RE: the No one has ever escaped from the Zig line..
Think about it, this is a 'newspaper' that citizens read - do you think they would publish something saying that tons of prisoners have escaped?
It is like what would happen during the Cold War if a foreigner went to Vladivostak (sp?) - You could be staring at a naval ship, watching sailors running around, and yet if you ask about the Navy there the answer would be 'There is no Navy here'. -
Ya know the best part? People are reading sooooo deeply into it
-
I think some weird 'end of the world' type stuff is going to hit in I11 - Just wild guesses but: The residents of 'Outbreak' are going to appear more often outside of the zone [and count towards the badge: I reason this by the tiny statement of how Coyote regretted bringing heroes into the zone], We might see a new system of sickeness that has to do with the Outbreak virus [maybe new mutations]. The infinity signal either means a new villain group [/old one reappearing], or a twist to one of the current groups [and since it seems to be of stamped metal, Nemesis does come to mind]. It can also mean the end of all as is known... with a twist.

Take care Arctic Sun, you will be missed by many.
I remember a PM from you that helped me continue posting here on the boards when I had decided to forsake them altogether. Your write-ups are great and your demeanor shines a light on the story of the game.
Good luck in your future ventures! -

Scrappers do not view "RUN!" as an imperative. They view it as notification that they are now fighting alone.
[/ QUOTE ]
Indeed, indeed.
[/ QUOTE ]
What's fun is being the one who says run, and then soloing the spawn after everyone's died or left.
[/ QUOTE ]
Been there, done that
Its even better when on a team with a Tank - the tank goes down, the team starts falling, Scrappers stands there destroying enemies and casually says 'Might wanna run' [I have been in that exact situation actually, quite funny when the group peeks back in the room to see the scrapper standing there and asking if they are ready to move on]

I will settle this.
ORANGE FTW!

..and Yay for a response to my tough question! (A boo is in order, Blue is the best color!!eleventyOne1!)

K, I've read the whole thread and while much ground has been covered, the most pressing questions have not yet been answered:
[ QUOTE ]
Ever had Australian Old Tuey's lager?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, yes I have. Do you happen to know a place in Arizona where I could get more?
[ QUOTE ]
umm.... Is Blue superior to Orange?
[/ QUOTE ]
I've never had a Tuey's Orange (or even heard of such a thing), but Tuey's Red, while different, is not of notably greater or lesser quality than Tuey's Blue. Of course, VB > Tuey's Blue, but Tuey's Black > all.
...Or were Blue and Orange no longer in reference to Tuey's? In which case Blue is -1 while Orange is +2, so clearly Orange is superior to Blue. You should have gotten that much from running through Outbreak...
Slug.
[/ QUOTE ]
I wish I could find Tuey's old here in CT - but they don't export it out of Australia (Darn you Aussies! /em shakefist!)
I was actually thinking of just normal old colors -

Ok, but I can't talk about Issue 11 or beyond... but that's pretty much what you guys WANT me to talk about so we are at an impass.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm.. how about.. whats not in Issue 11
Or.. hows the weather over there?

She's over at the TR beta forum attempting to contain the riot from unhappy beta testers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm... I heard the game was just "meh", what's the source of the discontent?
[/ QUOTE ]
The hype I fear.
Richard Garriott's newest title promises to break the MMO mold and chart a new direction for the future of gaming!
It's a game. There is some new stuff but honestly, I don't think the tech exists yet to do what the hype promised.
[/ QUOTE ]
Bingo - people are expecting something... groundbreaking, and they are not truly getting it.
I have been in the Beta for a while and seen lots of changes, I just couldn't see myself playing for long - it is fun and can be engaging, but for me there is something missing.. and I am not sure what that something is. -

Isn't she at a conference or something this week? There has been a lack of Cuppa attention over there - poor Critters has her hands full. -
Looks good again! Some minor spelling errors, but the new columns are nifty!
Keep it up -
Very nice update! The Justified text makes it much nicer on the eyes (and makes it look like a News column
). I am loving how this has been working out so far. Keep up the good work!! (The second exclamation mark shows how much I enjoy your good work
)
Edited for crazy spelling mistake that 21 hours without sleep will do to you. -
Psst.. Ex Libris.. post padding is against the ToS
That completely and hopefully humorous tidbit aside - you have been a great addition to the community. That is saying alot seeing how much the forum community as a whole tends to compare new moderator 'blood' to what has existed in the past. Hope you are around for a long while yet
-
Nice!
Suggestions:
Use Justified alignment for the column text, this gets rid of the 'ragged' edges and makes it look more like a news print collection.
For images: ensure that all of the images share a 'padding' value - the first image on page one does not have any padding, though the following images do. This ties in to proofreading (and typesetting) I guess.
Those graphical bullets in the right hand column on page 1 do not look right - if possible use different bullet images for inline HTML versus BBCode [I have no idea if this can be accomplished with this forum software].
For the Dear Athy section (which I love) how about making the answers in italics to differentiate them at a glance?
Other than that I love this idea and love how the first issue turned out. -
Thank you Lighthouse for the information. I have some intelligence for ya - see, it was my fault. I turned 28 yesterday and decided to go on an evil spree - I snuck in to WW when no one was looking and put a tiny piece of code into the WW transaction computers. All it was supposed to do is round off the integers and transfer the money to an annonymous account - it worked a tad too well, I must have misplaced a decimal point. I am always doing things like that! [Kudos to whoever gets the movie reference first
].
Seriously though, I appreciate the lowdown. I did turn 28 yesterday and odd things have a habit of happening on my B-Day - so I apologize for whatever odd technological demons I may have or may not have spawned by accident or on purpose -
The flashback portion was actually nifty, I was referring mainly to the high pixelation of the fonts and edges when you use the zoom feature on the Hypercomic viewer.
The whole WWII Flashback was very inspired - how did you get a tank in there? The tank probably could have been scaled a bit larger, but thats a tiny thing -
Hmm, I will try that - I don't have much experience with the Thresholds and all of that, and I don't have any filters for making it look inked (well, not and have it still look good).
Thanks for the feedback
Edit:
I played around with some Threshold and other filters; It looks a tad more 'drawn' but I don't know - I think I am doing it wrong

Howdy there Attache - I haven't registered on the Hypercomics site (Don't really want to) so I will give you my feedback here:
Amazing! The graphics were a little fuzzy (I guess that is because of how Hypercomics does things though - ya didn't lose any points in my book for that) but the story line... Very immersive!
I like how this big man who really wants to be a hero.. can't until a crazy twist of fate. I hope you plan on continuing your comic - you have a heck of a start going for you! One of the things I liked the most was how, at the last page, you restated something said in an earlier panel - but with your characters vow; That is a very good literary (and comic I guess) device to use[not too often of course].

Hello you gurus out there
- I have, after a long time thinking of doing it, finally decided to put my had into creating some CoH fan comics. I don't have the Comic Book Creator software, nor do I wish to purchase it to get the benefits - I do have, however, Adobe Creative Suite [I bought it for my business a while ago] and that has Photoshop in it.
What I would like critique on is my first attempt at layout / graphics quality / etc with the front page of a comic I am creating. I have used some filters and autoshapes to get it to look ok in my eyes, but I want to know what you all feel.
I saved the file as a high quality JPG and you can view it here:
http://coh.galatekinc.com/images/ill...ind-i1-001.jpg
Thank you in advance for any ideas [I will also be requiring some critique when I start the inner panels; for layout and how to create nifty skewed boxes]. -
Nice SuckerPunch! And you even got a heck of a plug by Lighthouse! (Though it did sorta sound like those Celebrity commercials where the stiff sounding Baseball player is like 'And that is why I always carry my American Express card with me because of its great benefits' [Punctuation omitted on purpose]
(no disrespect Lighthouse
)

Very cool article - one comment: Normally news articles use Justified type to make the columns flow together better, and prevent the jagged edges of standard alignment
