As for how you plan to gain financial incentive to keep updating CoV as much as CoH, beyond the initial activation fee, I would recall your "1-account 1-character online at a time" statement. The subscriber bought both boxes, is paying the monthly fee to use the service for the exact amount that they were previously... just that now they can choose which content they want to experience, as a reward for buying the CoV box. They only have so many hours to login, and hours once spent in CoH must now be given up for hours spent in CoV.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think the concern for the company is that after CoV's launch that fee will essentially be split to support two different clusters of zones and periodic expansions to both. Remember, CoV isn't just about PvP. There's going to be a thriving PvE environment confined to The Fallen Isles environment that can only be accessed by CoV subscribers.

After CoV's launch, are the free Updates going to be specific to the two different city clusters? And if they are, will Updates for CoH come out at the same time for CoV? Will the dev's be able to keep the same quarterly schedule for Updates at the same fee level?

Are the Updates going to be for both city clusters at the same time? Is each Update going to be 50% hero content/50% villain content? Is it going to be 33% PvP content/33% Quality of Life content/33% PvE content? Will both games get EATs at the same time or staggered?

There's a lot of unanswered questions regarding how the CoH universe will change dramatically after CoV's launch. I think that's why they are hesitant to rule out upping the fee until they see how beta goes and how the pre-orders of CoV are selling.
  2. Kudos to your sharing the notes, BitterCup. This is going to be linked often.
  3. We all hope that the promotion has been better than sucktastic.
  4. The Blob is just the easiest example. Other characters hunker down to counter 'knockback' effects in comics, they just often don't do it standing upright.

It's also appealing in a Newtonian physics sense. "Objects at rest tend to stay at rest" kind of thing.
  5. Search for articles, because the old dev posts have been purged. Various dev's have been talking about power customization since beta - it looks like it will come in waves for Update 4 & 5...

I have to say one thing. I don't know about anyone else but i think we deserve to be GIVEN this add-on stuff.

Not to be rude, but thanks for reading some of this thread before posting. I don't think I've heard someone voice this sentiment before.

Since you've just joined the discussion I throw this old counter-argument at your older argument:

What do you say to the people who didn't pre-order, but have been playing since May, who want the Prestige Powers?

    Here's a fresher one:

The regular version of the game is still for sale at a reduced price - why should current subscribers get something for free when new subscribers are paying a premium to get these pieces of in-game tinsel?

I don't even find a SLOW to be "comic book". I don't recall seeing many tanks creeping slowly around, let alone being locked in place.

whats with the neco-posting? the last post in this thread was like 2 months ago.

Really. This is one of those threads that forces me to appreciate the forum purges every two weeks. This thread was fine at the time, but should be put to rest.

PM Statesman through the forum? He's responded to one of mine before - you might get lucky.

"Yep - so if you're stunned, wobbling back and forth - you can use this Inspiration and WHAMMO - you're ready for action.

That pretty much makes City of Villains unplayable for Controllers! Thanks!

    [/ QUOTE ]
You know it won't take a week after CoV launches before some doof complains that the anti-hold inspirations don't drop enough and it's a hassle to keep buying them - basically CoH sucks because one has to plan for battle and most don't want to.

This feels like a small concession to the "Chain Holds=Inevitable Bankruptcy for Cryptic" crowd to get em to quit bellyaching. I can live with it even though it diminishes the 'uberosity' of my Grav Controller.

  13. The dev's aren't going to drop Update 3 on without it going through the Test Server. They didn't even do the Halloween event without it passing through the Test Server.
  14. Are you assuming CoV being released in May/June? Many people are assuming CoV beta in May/June...
  15. This company doesn't give themselves deadlines for Updates, except to release them on a roughly quarterly basis. The last update was 9/16/04. Do the math and factor in holidays.

Any chance of adding a post mission screen that shows kill, power use, death, damage given and taken, team stats ect.. It would be kind cool to know how some of these stats pan out in missions. Would really be handy if you have a large team to make sure people are pulling weight!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Since there's no chance for cutscenes, is there any chance that this great idea of a post-mission wrap-up pop-up could be implemented, especially for team members who don't own the mission?
  18. [ QUOTE ]
    3. Missions - +1 thats not enuff.. I wouldnt mind having the same lvl mobs but more of them come on! 2-3 per mob if your solo what crap is that ? why so little ? why not add a difficulty setting in were you can specify your difficulty level and have that adjust the xp you get.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Because the mission slider is being implemented to ramp up the difficulty, as per the players' requests. Ramping up the number of mobs as well would be easily exploitable to farm mobs AND get the mission xp bonus.

We all know teams and soloers can farm missions now. The dev's just aren't going to reward players any more than they already do. Players wanted to control the difficulty - they will have that. Players want to herd and farm - hit the streets.

AoE's have NOTHING to do with surviving mezzes and everything to do with surviving everything...

All other AT's have damage mitigation abilities except blasters.... and if you say it's range you're full of garbage.

Our damage mitigation is extreme damage. If you're going to nerf that, changes need to be made to give people a fighting chance.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, kiting isn't the same after Update 2. It seems like (admitting to not doing qualitative research on it) a lot of mobs got an aggro/attack range boost. Better or more intense secondary effects might help out if the nerf bat truly makes its presence known.

    15. Weather effects aren't scheduled any time soon.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I can understand the diminished returns on active/dynamic weather effects, but it'd be very keen to have subtle winter season art changes like clumps of snow and the addition of snowplows cruising the streets.

Funny, how people say they need AoEs the way they are to avoid Sappers and mezz effects, when in the same post as he mentioned AoEs, States said minion mezzers are being dramatically reduced and Sappers are going down to 1 per group instead of 2.

There's no rhyme or reason why some powers lock you in place while animating and some don't. Powers often doing the exact same thing like heals, buffs, and armors some lock you up and some don't any plans to make that more uniform?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think you'll find that animation times and movement limitations are factored into the opportunity costs for those powers, along with endurance cost, secondary effects, effect duration, and recharge length. Not all heals, buffs, and armors are equal to each other. Some powers may be working improperly and should be bugged and discussed in the forums. Some powers have been rebalanced after further testing by the dev's at the players' request. Be specific. Making a blanket statement doesn't shed light on your concerns.

If they release it on december 28th they must have been smoking something - its been more than two months already.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It seems like forever, but Update 2 was released on 9/16/04. A December 28 Live Servers release would the longest gap between Updates at 3.5 months, but still on a roughly quarterly schedule.
