The few suggestions that I have seen, I’m not exactly fond of, so I thought I’d try and come up with what I thought was a viable method, and so far, I like it. So here’s my idea:

It starts with your character receiving a message from Ouroboros, who have determined ways for your character to improve in their incarnate abilities. After chatting with the Mender, he sends you to one of ten different incarnate contacts. Five are for heroes and vigilantes, five are for villains and rogues. One for each origin, on each side.

This new contact will give you one of three story arcs to unlock an incarnate slot, an arc for judgement, an arc for interface, and an arc for destiny. Finishing the interface arc unlocks the destiny arc, while completing the judgement arc will get you access to another incarnate contact, gives you the lore arc.

In the missions themselves, you earn incarnate threads instead of shards. At the end of each mission, you get a random piece of common incarnate salvage. At the end of each arc, you get a random piece of uncommon incarnate salvage. Completing all four arcs will earn you a piece of rare incarnate salvage (once a week).

Now, in the arcs themselves, the final mission will unlock the slot, if you don’t already have it. By that time, you should have enough threads to sidegrade your common salvage into the ability that you want, so you’ll have at least T1 in that slot. Because this guarantees that you’ll have the abilities when you reach the arcs, they can be slightly tweaked to be more difficult, like an extra minion here and there, or making them a tiny bit more powerful, but not too much. We have to remember all archetypes have to be capable of soloing them.

Now, one problem with this is that if these are set by origin and alignment, it makes it a bit more complex with teaming. I recommend making it so that you can autocomplete a mission, if it’s the same number mission from the same arc. So, if I have an incarnate working on the third science judgement mission, but choose to lend a hand to a hero working on the third magic judgement mission, I can autocomplete mine.

One thing I need to point out, is that the timer for completing all four arcs is set to a week so that someone can’t speed run all the arcs over and over in one day, and reach T4 everything lickety split. I don’t want to make it an easy alternative, trials are much faster to build the top tiers, but solo arcs gives a more reliable method. The way it works, careful spending of threads and running only solo incarnate arcs can get you two T3 in one ability by the end of the week, a T4 by the end of the next, and one T4 ability in everything in two months.

My final point, is that I’d prefer it if you can replay arcs by going to a contact in ouroboros and resetting them, rather than flashbacks. This means that if someone is struggling with a certain mission, they can get help, rather than just have to keep dying and buying more inspirations to win. That gets annoying after a while.

So, that’s my idea for the solo incarnate path. What do you think?
And one more thing I thought of. While the arcs should be broad enough to apply within that origin, we should have control over what our character is like. For example, someone who fell in a vat of toxic waste will be a lot more trustworthy of a scientist than someone who was operated on at a lab table, for instance.

We should be able to control that much of our origin, while we work with incarnate contacts to improve our abilities. After all, we don't want to just say "We're working with the well, that's our new power." We should be able to improve to incarnate levels by what our powers actually are. That's why there should be 11 contacts instead of 3.

Actually, looking at the person holding it, that was a Carnie of light. Remember Seneschals on Primal? I reckon this is their Praetorian counterpart. No new powerset.
  4. So... any progress towards fixing the AI where untouchable is concerned? Ice tanks and illusionists everywhere await eagerly the day when bad guys resume attacking the untouchable.
  5. That doesn't explain why Penelope is saying it's closed, when it's clearly open.
  6. I recently started a dominator, and, to take advantage of Yin's Market, sent one of my 50s to go get some SO enhancements to email to her. Now, when I got the door, it was locked, and Penelope told me that Yin's market was closed. Strange, because I quite like the Faultline arcs. How could I miss it? Ah, well, that's what Ouroboros is for. I scraped through that, and, feeling proud of myself, finished the arc by talking to Penny in person, rather than phone.

Now here's where the problem is. I clicked on her again, but she told me that Yin's market was closed until her father got back. I clicked on the door, and got in normally. Bought the enhancements I wanted, and emailed them to my new dominator, but Penny still acts as though we never met. Given that it's been a long time since Ouroboros was introduced, I'd think that the devs can now give this more consistency. I'd like it if the contacts I flashback to join my inactive tab, and that they respond to me appropriately, rather than act as though we never met.
  7. No, we're going to have shards become relevant again, but it only gets revealed at the last minute, and at such stacked costs that it's going to take ages to save up enough for even a common bit of salvage. Therefore we will have to do whatever new things the devs have set out for us.

Oh, and they'll take away the option to use shards for alpha slots, as they'll realize how easy it is to get it under the new system.
  8. Well, I'm confused about the whole thing, unfortunately.

First I was overjoyed. "Yay! Now I can go remake my defender with dark blast as a blaster with dark blast, and enjoy the better... wait a minute. I don't want to make her again."

Then I was insulted. There wasn't a single thing in this proliferation that I'd be interested in.

Then I was enraged. Reading about how they're changing it for blasters. "How dare the devs do this? What, it's fine for defenders, but not for blasters? Oh, when blasters get it, it has to be improved. Growl..."

And now I'm confused at how I could have so many different reactions before I even finish reading about it. So, yeah. Ending with confused.

You may want to look at those numbers. If memory serves, you get Terrify at level 26, not 28.

I would then add an average column and sort by this column.
Another point for that. Pets who can get criticals. Min is no criticals. Max is (and let's be realistic here, not optimistic) when you get a critical on the high damage attack.

I like threads like this. Someone needs to pull together a guide to what Lore pets are best for you. For instance, I had to scour through the incarnate tabs for a while before I found someone who buffed all of my MM's pets instead of just me, the person doing the least damage.
  11. I just hope you do a better job of integrating characters into your plots than other games I've played...

Hero X comes to mind. "Oh, sure, you can coun't on me to take care of him."

    I was playing a girl.

Uh huh... do the maths on this, and tell me, just how long is it going to take to unlock say... T2, in each slot, if done purely by shards and alpha salvage?

You're right, there is a option of incarnate progression outside of the trials. But it is not a very friendly one.
  13. T4 Core Nerve. T3 Total Core Warworks. T3 Total Core Judgement. While running it, I'm actually already almost softcapped positionally on the build you suggested. Just not on melee, which shouldn't be a problem seeing as she can fly.
  14. Is it unsettling that I was not unsettled by this video?
Just became less enthusiastic for CoH: Freedom?
  15. I just realized, that I was so intrigued by the upcoming new pets and trial, that I didn't think of what else it brought. Will be sad to see my force defender's buffs become AoE. Now I can't 'accidentally' forget to buff those people who are rude to me.
  16. I'm having some problems with the text file version. No matter what I try, I cannot get my henchman to respond. I'm certain I've followed the steps correctly, but I don't know. I've managed to survive this long without it.

Edit: Well, feeling a little silly. Used the first binding method, and works perfectly now.
  17. My second character and first defender was my Force/Dark defender. I've played her from level 1 to 50 with just SO enhancements, and gotten to tier 4 Alpha, tier 2 Judgement and Lore. It wasn't easy.

Over my break from the game, I thought I'd give Mid's Hero Designer a shot, and put together a good build for her finally using those inventions I've been avoiding.

    Code:
