    Returning player

    Welcome back.

    In answer to your questions:

    1) 3
    2) yes, either return to or call the contact the mission came from and click on "Drop the current mission from this contact"

You can only drop 1 mission every 3 days, so use it sparingly. You also cannot drop timed missions, or missions that grant a badge upon completing. If a mission is not timed and it will not let you drop it, you either used your drop for the moment, or there is a badge involved in the mission.
  2. The colors are always constant as well. Accuracy is always yellow, damage is always red, healing is always green.

That's what I go by if I'm unfamiliar with the origin in question.
  3. Superspeed is capped because of game engine limitations. If you went much faster you would be running into empty space because the server couldn't render terrain fast enough. When you stop, you might end up inside something.

Flight is capped so much lower because of all the advantages it has. You will never run out of endurance while traveling like Teleport. You have vertical mobility, unlike Superspeed. You are not prone to being attacked when you hit the ground like Super Jump. Because Flight has none of those problems, and is the safest travel power by far, it is capped the slowest.

Defense softcap and to-hit cap are the only ones you can hit wthout outside help (some tanks can hit resistance cap to a few damage types, none can hit ALL of them)

As far as the to-hit cap goes, if you had 6000% to-hit you will STILL miss 5% of the time, because that's how the game was designed, nothing is ever guaranteed.
  4. I think it's limited becaue they never expected anyone to ignore 200+ people in the game, let alone MOST of us ignoring 200+ people.

Also, to save space, anytime you see an email and the "from" portion says "empty", just delete the email, the account it came from has already been banned.

That will help, and it's also a safe bet that anyone bumped off your ignore list has already been banned as well*, unless you recognize the name, in which case you can re-ignore them.

*The ignore list goes in order of first ignored, first removed. So, the very first person you ignored will be the first bumped off the list, then the second, and so on.

    48 HOURS? That's insane.

If your download is that slow, you may have problems playing as well. Even on my old, not-even-minimum-requirement system I NEVER had a patch download that took more than 3 hours. That was with 256 megs of RAM and a 1.6 processor.

On that system I was extremely laggy anytime there was more than just me in the area. You may want to look into a system upgrade.

Also, are you on dial-up or cable?
  7. I like Pinnacle.

You may not. Check it out and decide for yourself.
  8. This would be the most petty powerset ever.

"HA! I have you at my mercy, you are defenseless against my power!
.....Now I am going to KICK you!!!"

Let's just call it Schoolyard Bully Assault while we're at it.
  9. So, where exactly is the "defense" in this set? You have...a High Pain tolerance clone.... and that's it? If you ever find yourself in a situation where you have to scrap to survive (fighting Rikti with Drones present) you're boned.

Sneaky or no, stalkers ARE still melee fighters and should be able to hang in melee combat better than your average blapper, which is how this set looks.
  10. Would rather not play City of Herocraft thanks.

Honestly, there's not a whole lot of mez that early in the game.

My blasters and corruptors stay pretty much mez-free that early too, with mag 0 protection.

That all it would do would be to block the occasional annoyance of having a minion get a lucky shot and stun you out of your toggle debuffs, which turn off completely instead of suppressing like armor toggles do, and often have inconvenient recharges if you have to wait on them in the middle of a fight?

    Just checking.
Nope. Mag 2 mez protection would be worse than none. It would have no effect since most standard mezzes are at least mag 3, so you'd just be pissed about having mez protection that doesn't do squat.

If squishies actually got enough mez protection to make a difference, then yes they would be overpowered. There is plenty of evidence that the devs seem to agree with that assessment. If they didn't, why don't squishies have it already?

Besides, as I already stated, most squishies already have mez protection.

    what is this?

There was a player event held a while back (Whack-a-Snake) that was a contest to see who could get the Mongoose badge first using nothing but the baseball bat.

    I wouldn't.

Simple reason: people can be really petty. If you turn the red star over to him after you've changed a bunch of stuff around, he may get mad and kick you, then he benefits from all that work you did, and you're out in the cold with nothing you can do about it.

Promote him back to the second highest rank, sure. But I would not give him back the Super Leader position. He bailed for 2 months, and it doesn't sound like he was doing much while he was still around. If the SG is running smoothly under your leadership, I'd keep it that way.

The guy can complain all day long, he can even send petitions if he wants, but the bottom line is: He left and you're in charge now, and there's nothing he can do about it. He can't even claim you stole the SG, because it's not even possible to steal one if you don't have the Super Leader position. He was clearly gone long enough to be considered to have given up his claim to it. Which is probably exactly how any GM he complains to will view it.

I'm not saying you should be a jerk about it, that isn't called for. But I would definitely say the SG is yours now.

    My .02 influence.

Tidbit: If he kicked everyone out, including his own characters, and then quit himself, that SG is yours free and clear. YOU didn't remove those characters, so he can't say you stole it. Enjoy it.

Not everyone is 'uber leet and buffed'. That sure as hell isn't the norm. I know I hate it when people start getting that mixed up.
My half-a-billion influence BS/DA can handle +0/x6....barely, and only if I'm on my game, one slip up and I'm toast.

My Claws/Regen, who's build is probably just as expensive, struggles on +0/x3 or 4. x6 is beyond him, and x8 is a pipe dream. But he's a scrapper, so he should have no problem with that...right?

I mean, he has mez protection, which is apparently the only thing I need to be an unkillable uber-god. So...what's the problem? Mez protection is easy mode, right? Why can't my character solo on +4/x8 like the hordes of (fictional) scrappers out there doing it all day long?

Could it possibly be that....(gasp!)....maybe mez protection isn't that damned important after all?!

Nah, couldn't be, it's already been proven (eyeroll) that mez protection is all you need to do impossible things.

Yes, I'm being sarcastic, this thread deserves it by this point.
  16. It's a helluva lot easier to softcap SR than it is Ninjitsu as well. SR has passives which add more defense, Ninjitsu lacks them and is forced to make up the difference with IOs or Weave/Combat Jumping/Maneuvers/etc.
  17. The complaint of squishy ATs not being able to solo +4/x8 missions just struck me as being very similar to complaining that your stock Jeep Wrangler can't win the Baja 1000.

A Jeep can go off road, but it takes a special vehicle to run something that difficult.

Not many toons in general can run content that difficult. It takes a specially built toon to run it with any consistency. The feats the forum scrappers pull off and report are NOT the baseline by which everything should be judged, they are outliers. Your average scrapper runs +4/X8 content no better than your average defender.

Because Bill Z's scrapper can solo at that level does not mean all scrappers can.

Just as someone soloing an STF with an Ill/Rad controller does not mean that all Ill/Rad's can.

And because Bill Z's scrapper can solo at that level certainly does not mean that everyone in the game should be able to. But you are acting as though they should.

This is my experience as well. I have a BS/DA that I run 9 toggles with at all times, and still have plenty of endurance to attack with, and Broadsword is one of the end-hungrier sets to pair with DA.

You should be just fine running all those toggles with WP. Hell, see if you can fit some more in just for fun. There is a scrapper build called Toggle-Man floating around. It's a Spines/DA build that runs 17 toggles at once.
  19. Teaming already IS beneficial to melee characters.

A mostly single target scrapper can solo huge mobs, but it takes a long time.

Same with tanks, but it takes even longer.

Teaming with ATs with more AoE damage potential and the ability to cut down incoming damage cuts down the downtime of the entire team, meaning everyone advances faster. The squishies can focus on dealing damage because the tank is keeping them from getting hit, and the tank doesn't have to spend an hour on one mission because it's damage output is low.

And you're still looking at a situation where melee ATs can no longer solo at all because their mez protection can be easily overcome, while squishies are in the exact same situation they were in before. Not being able to mez a Sapper from range, and running into more than one is almost a death sentence to a melee toon now, being mezzed with their first two attacks is a guaranteed death sentence.

I'm presuming here that you are saying that a solo melee AT should have less than mag 6 mez protection, which is what would be required to handle 2 standard holds hitting at once.

Also, "revitalizing teaming" means the same thing in this case as "make teaming mandatory to do ANYTHING"

A large part of the draw of CoH to a lot of people is that, unlike a majority of other MMOs, you do not NEED a large group of people in order to just play the game.

I'd be willing to bet, if this were implemented, a lot of the people who either enjoy soloing, or have to because they have a weird schedule or live in a different time zone would end up finding another game to play. All because a few people wanted things more "fair"

News flash, it already IS fair.

I'll say it One. Last. Time.

Melee characters have mez protection because they are unable to prevent mezzes from hitting them. That is PASSIVE mez protection.

Ranged characters can prevent the mez from ever being fired, so they do not need passive mez protection. That is ACTIVE mez protection.

All ATs have mez protection in some form or another, whether passive or active. Acting to prevent a mez from happening is protecting yourself from it

Here's the definition of the word "protection" again, in case you missed it:

    pro·tec·tion (prə-těk'shən)
    n.

    1. The act of protecting.
    2. The condition of being protected.

    Main Entry: pro·tec·tion
    Function: noun
1 : the act of protecting : the state of being protected protection>
2 a : one that protects b : supervision or support of one having less power <protection of endangered species>

In the first definition, the condition of being protected would obviously be passive mez protection.

But, the first definition is "the act of protecting". That applies to pro-actively using a power to prevent mez from happening, you have acted to protect yourself from it.

In the second entry, those two definitions pop up again, but there is a third definition as well. That would be "one who protects" or "supervision or support of one with less power"

In this case that would be "less power to prevent mez from occurring". I read that as implying that the entire tanker AT is mez protection in and of itself.

    Help a Hero Out

Numina's Convalescence Heal, Heal/Something, Heal/Something, Steadfast Protection Res/Def in HPT. You can add the rest of the Steadfast set too if you have space for it.

Numina's Heal, Heal/Something, Unique in FH.

Numina's Heal, Heal/Something, Heal/Something, Miracle Unique, Regenerative Tissue Unique in Health

Numina's in RttC as well, all but the unique if you can afford it. Don't waste the slots on slotting for to-hit debuff, it's not worth it.

Reasoning: Max HP is more important for WP than regen and recovery is. You get more out of your regen if your HP is higher. The percentage stays the same, but with more HP that percentage equals more HP per second.

That slotting gives you an additional 60% regen plus what the uniques add. The unique's benefit from the power they are in being slotted. So, if your Numina's Unique is adding 20% and the power it is in is enhanced by 90%, that unique is now giving you 38%. The same is true of the Regenerative Tissue, 25% + 90% = ~47%

So with that slotting your regen will be increased by a large amount, and the Numina's add HP as well when 3 are slotted, making that regen all the more valuable.

(Note: that explanation is to the best of my knowledge, I believe it is correct, but you may want to clarfiy it for yourself)

I don't have Mid's installed on this computer currently, but that is what I would do with just about any WP character.

    Uber veterans

I have my 45 month badge. Had I not let my account lapse a couple years ago I would have my 51 month by now, so I suppose technically I would count.

    1) Scrappers and blasters top my list. I have a defender that I really like who is almost 50. I have a tank and a controller I enjoy as well. Villainside I have a stalker and a brute within striking distance of 50. I have a Dark/Kin corruptor and an Ice/Icey Dominator I'm having fun with too.

    2) My first character I created was an energy/energy blaster, I hated it almost immediately. Next was a sonic/ice blaster, I hated it because I built it screwy, had I known then what I know now he would be 50 instead of deleted a long time ago. My main and namesake was probably my 10th or 11th I created and I just had a blast with him, he is still regularly played.

    3) My favorite build is a toss-up. Either Broadsword/DA scrapper, Sonic/Devices blaster, or DM/SR brute.
  22. And the reason they are different is very simple.

Until I16 you could run into Kraken as early as level 7. Jack you run into in the mid-20s. It would be colossally unfair for Kraken to be as strong as Jack when he's being fought by level 7's.

What part of "melee toons cannot function without passive mez protection" is so hard to understand?

It is always preferable to avoid the damage rather than take it. Would you rather take 100 damage, or none at all? Anyone with sense would say none at all....that's exactly how much a competently played controller will take in a solo situation.

Sure, a tank can get beaten silly all day long and walk away fine. A controller can handle the same mob without even getting their tights dirty.

So, who's the better hero? The guy who took a beating with a smile? Or the guy who never even got touched?

Oh, and the idea of taking passive protection form melee ATs and giving them defiance? That is the STUPIDEST idea I've heard yet in this thread.

Oh, I can use my tier 1 and 2 melee attacks? How the HELL does that help me when I'm getting chain mezzed from 50 frigging feet away?!?

My armors are useless because I'm mezzed, but, man, I sure could pound the snot out of that Sapper......if he ever got close enough.

That's true. Never have I, or anyone else, claimed otherwise.

What if the tank doesn't have a breakfree?

He gets mezzed and becomes useless. A mezzed tank is no more resistant to damage than a defender, he just has more hit points. And since he already has a lot of things mad at him, that lack of resistance will get him killed very quickly.

Any team with a tank is going to expect that tank to take the agro and prevent the rest of the team from taking damage or getting mezzed, and rightfully so, that's it's job. If that tank cannot perform that one simple task because they are mezzed, they are dead weight, plain and simple. Tanks don't get invited to teams for their damage output, they get invited to basically get pounded on so the rest of the team doesn't have to.

A tank being able to shrug off mez is important to the survival of the team as a whole. In no other situation is the team's survival so dependent on ONE player's ability to survive. If that player cannot survive, chances are the team can't either.

Do you know what the most useful ability is that a scrapper brings to a team? It's not damage. It's the fact that the scrapper is one less player for the defender or controller to worry about keeping alive, which means their energy can be focused elsewhere. If a scrapper had no mez protection, the defender or controller would have to babysit it in order for it to pull it's weight at all. I've seen high level scrappers with no mez protection in a team situation....it wasn't pretty.

Squishy ATs, by and large, don't have the same issues. A defender is not, and should not, be expected to take the alpha and soak agro for a full team. In most situations, if a stray mez catches them, they are out of commision for a few seconds and life goes on. The team will not wipe because the empath was mezzed for 5 seconds. If it does, you have bigger problems than mez to deal with.

The scrapper and tank's team roles require them to have passive mez protection. Defender, controller, and blaster team roles do not. You may not like it, but it is the truth.

I've already covered solo ability, so I won't touch on it again.
