I think devs is a pretty cool guy. eh publishes CoX and doesn't afraid of anything...
(refreshingly nondrama/complaining thread)

Great post. I like how it touched on how purple demand (probably) went up due to all the PLed toons from AE over the past few months. No doubt a few of them thought purpling out would be just as easy.
I also wonder how much the sense of entitlement is (mistakenly) driven by people who pre-design their builds in Mids and related programs; I can recall seeing only one "rate my build" thread in the ATs section that was done with frankenslotting. One. Ever. Seems they mostly focus on numerous purples and top-rung sets. -

Quote:I don't have massive search fu and couldn't find the exact post this came from, but this was quoted from Horatio (a red name) in another thread; it was apparently posted on the beta board for i16:Where does it say this? I've been hunting through the forums and have yet to see any type of statement to that effect...
"Architect is a feature that we knew even before we launched was going to be tweaked well after it was in the hands of the players. Its such a big, daunting system, theres just no way around that. I bring this up to say that the adjustments were making to the rewards in Architect are on going. You can expect to see more refinement in both our methods and our numbers in the coming months. Right now, we wanted to address some of our as well as your major concerns with the system as soon as possible. Architect is a feature we have big plans for and were committed to seeing it grow into its rightful place within both the game and the community of City of Heroes."
I've added bold font to the pertinent section and also italicized with that one for extra emphasis another. On top of this I'm pretty sure I've seen about the same wording from another dev elsewhere.
Really, how much in this game hasn't changed at one time or another? Things always change, just adjust and get over it. -

Quote:That's like leaving pennies for a tip. That's some serious "damning with faint praise":At least your enemies are taking you seriously.
I once got ambushed by a single Rikti Drone. One. Drone.
That was so embarassing.
First Rikti: Laevateinn: growing threat to our plans.
Second Rikti: Steps: must be taken. Available troops: locate.
First Rikti: This drone: burning oil and dusty from sitting in the cargo hold for six months awaiting repair, but available.
Second Rikti: This drone: adequate. -
Quote:That gives me an idea. Write a perfectly normal arc, then go through and replace every word the filter blocks, as well as some carefully-selected, non-blocked words, with random words pulled from a dictionary.
"What the cabbage is $name doing here!"
"How in socks are you so powerful?!"
"Oh versimilitude! My evil plan is obfuscated!"
This is actually a pretty effective work-around. Years back I recall reading an interveiw with a comics guy talking about this; he just got more creative with it. I went this route in my third arc so that the line
"...as if you gave a rat's (hinder) about any of that junk."
became
"...as if you gave a rat's scab about any of that junk."
On the other hand, it can be fun typing in a grawlix on your own too.The boss in the same arc says "Oh #&*%@!" when you defeat him - very comicbooky.

Weren't some of the original thug minions pretty generic though? At least they weren't just lifted-off-the-streets-we-made-these-years-back models, but generic?
-
My new troller's perfectly happy with the range for Fire, perhaps you were expecting more than was realistic to.
-
Hm, one of my missions has a custom-grouped set of foes like that, I'll have to check it tomorrow when I get home. Thanks for the heads-up.
I hope you guys have filed some bug reports - I know I will if I see a problem. -
Quote:And then there's the price to take into consideration as well...The difference between a common level 30 damage IO and a level 40 is a whopping 3.8% increase. A set IO triple enhancement, like Touch of Death D/E/R? 1.9% per attribute. Once ED is taken into account, I personally feel those small amounts have very little practical in-game effect, especially when compared to set bonuses.

Quote:Getting kicked is half the fun of trolling!Just a note: I'd advise everyone to keep one of their costumes as the go-to normal colors, in case people find the custom choices difficult to play with.
I've actually kicked people from teams who have over-the-top or annoying to the eyes color schemes and refuse to (or can't) change them. The inky-dark trails on some buffs, the loud pink and gold EKG's on sonic dispersion, burning pink and bright purple combos on standing effects, etc can be a nightmare for others.
If teammates complain about it interfering with gameplay, have a backup costume handy. Preferably one that is just the normal power scheme.
But I kid, I'm not really that obnoxious and would be happy to switch over if asked (and I did just create the 2nd costume sans pink powers for her today; sadly though EMP is only a tintable set and reds still look somewhat pinkish). But really, if someone ragekicked me without at least asking me to swap or something likewise polite first, I wouldn't miss that team too much.
As for trying another type of troller, I still have something of an aversion to playing blueside, no firm idea why. If I were to tally up all my alts, probably 80% of my heroes never make it past 10th. I already have two other lowbie villains on the same server my present troller is on that I'm just itching to get to but haven't the time for right now. But if I do crap out on this troller, I'll give definitely steer clear of EMP next time. -
Hm! I'm working on a troller right now and I was thinking to skip some of the more obvious choices for her, I might have to try and work that in.
-
I made a new troller for this update to see if anyone gets annoyed enough to comment. She's a Fire/Emp and all of her powers are very ohgodmyeyes pink; think of it as trolling the WE NEEDZ A HE4L0RZ! teams.
I'm about five minutes away from getting her second costume slot and I'm thinking I might color her powers on that one less eye-searing. But I'm disappointed because so far the only comments I've gotten were:
"Everything's so pink, I feel like I'm in a little girl's bedroom."
"Pink fire... nice touch." (I'm sure there was some sarcasm in there)
I think the revealing moment will come after a PuG and I tackle our first gorup and then I ask innocently "Does the pink bother anyone, would you guys rather I switch to the other costume?"
I've played two other trollers that have gotten to 30 and I think 27 (both were Emp strangely) and I almost never play blueside, so this issue has encouraged me to check out blueside for a change and so far I'm not regretting it. Still, I'm missing my MMs; we'll see how long this fling lasts... -
Quote:That "invisible attackers" thing I've been told is a bug/map error that pops up when you have too many on the map, like say a full team, three of whom are MMs with their pets out, etc.Maniac Slammers. Just went back into mish. Something is VERY wrong. Had all the group stunned, only six of them. No other bad guys around. I was still getting hit by some unseen force almost in sync with my imps hitting them. Just for good measure I threw Cinders, all assumed choking posture. Hit multiple times again and... died, again. This is messed up.

Not familair with that usage of "puck", can anyone fill me in? Typo maybe? Strange verb for an action made by people who hate the markets?? Brand of catfood???
-
It'd be even easier to just not open up your map window.

I like the ol' rust-bucket Clockwork...
These guys could just be cyborg/robot guys from anywhere.
When GR comes out, I'll make an MA arc about old vs. new Clockwork and make the new ones lose! That'll show 'em!!
Well, ok, not really, but I do still like the old ones better. -

I can't sympathize with this topic much I can't recall the last time I had a problem with finding an unclaimed name. Then again I'm not usuauly looking for simpler names like "FireShot" or whatever. Mine are based on jokes, obscure references and so on (although I was surprised to find out that my AR/Pain Corr's name wasn't already taken:A Shot For The Pain).
And Electrosaurus has an easy fix: "Electrosaurus Rex."
You have the internet at your fingertips, do some random googling, look up foreign languages or anything else that strikes your fancy or enters into your head. -
I've got a few MMs under my belt - no 50s, but all at least taken to 30th level if not 40th or higher and I can say that zombies were the biggest pain and required all sorts of micro-managing that my other MMs' pets haven't. Then again I've stuck with ranged pets, Bots and Mercs so far, so that "ranged vs. melee" issue might be part of it.
My poor Zombie/Dark MM had a great character concept but sits idle at 31 I think, and has for about a year and a half if not longer... -
Meh, redsiders have more pirate in them that ye ken shake a whole grove a' peglegs at, ye bildge-swab! We dunt need any help!
