Zombies - screwy AI?

Aside from a few lowbie forays, I16 is my first time playing Necromancy (flamming zumbeez!!). It's been fun so far, except for the AI - I've been having issues. Most noticeably on my first Mayhem, which resulted in my zombies leaping up onto building ledges when I command them to attack my target. They also seem to have trouble on warehouse maps with those corners that have stairs leading up to a platform (hope that made sense, it's hard to describe). Once they get up onto the platform they have a very hard time following me back down.

Is it my imagination? Has I16 messed with henchman AI? (Haven't really tried my other MMs yet, aside from a very chaotic MITF on my Bots/Dark.) Or is it just the built-in frustration of the Necromancy set?

Zombies have been nearly as spazzy as Ninjas in circumstances. Nothing out of the ordinary, actually.

Not just zombies, not even just MM pets, any pets without fly capability have pathing issues with certain maps/areas. Much more noticable on melee pets though as they tend to run right into these parts where you have to lead them back down ramps etc. to get them out where ranged pets would just stand outside the trouble area and fire in normaly.

Those corners you describe are a nightmare for Zombies. It gets even worse when you've 7 henchies following you about. You can try using Goto commands to steer the one that always seems to get stuck out. Personally I'm a TPer anyway so I just haul his sorry rotting butt out of trouble whenever he gets lost. The other alternatives are running far enough away to cause him to TP to you automatically, or resummoning.

I should add, I'm a MM vet twice over now with a Bots/Dark at 50 and Thugs/Pain at 48 (among a couple other lowbies). Even at their zaniest my Bots never reached this level of frustration (the aggro-soaking Thugs Arsonist and pre-fix Hurl-spamming Bruiser came close...). My beef isn't so much with them not doing what I want to do - on even ground they kill things fine, but like I said movement has been extremely iffy. I've never seen MM pets in Mayhems leap onto ledges in order to kill an enemy that's standing right in front of them on the ground. I've had pathing issues with the pets before, but never so bad as I've seen with zombies. From the sound of it, I guess it's due to them being primarily melee. Hopefully upgrades and future pets will improve performance...

these particular missions are torture for melee MM's...I've always had a really hard time with zombies and ninjas on mayhem missions...kind of always been that way. so...yeah..you kind of have to micro-manage pretty much almost your entire team.

Shame I can't have the whips from the upcoming Demon Summoning then...at least then I might feel like I was somewhat in charge.

I've got a few MMs under my belt - no 50s, but all at least taken to 30th level if not 40th or higher and I can say that zombies were the biggest pain and required all sorts of micro-managing that my other MMs' pets haven't. Then again I've stuck with ranged pets, Bots and Mercs so far, so that "ranged vs. melee" issue might be part of it.

My poor Zombie/Dark MM had a great character concept but sits idle at 31 I think, and has for about a year and a half if not longer...

Zombies are nothing to the cat herding that is Ninjas. Since the Grave knights still love to fire off Dark Blast/Gloom over and over I have gotten very used to using Go To for my undead friends. Even the Zombie Horde like to puke at a distance when I don't want them too. Both Necromancy, and Ninja require a lot of attention from the player, and constant micromanagement of their placement. Soloing on most maps you can get by with them running around chaotically, but you'll still want to refine your control for groups.
