Quote:Fans of frankenslotting would hate it. I don't think it's such a good idea for that alone as I do sometimes frankenslot. The idea of some more generic sets to slot into buffs say is sort of cute, but I'd rather they add those in on top rather than taking some out as well. While advocating more power-specific IO sets, we should also be asking for some of the redundant sets to be removed. There's too many useless sets floating out there, clogging the drop pools and personal inventories.
Do we need all those snipe sets? All those pet damage sets? All those confuse or sleeps? Is there a way to make a more generic group that enhances multiple buff/debuff aspects, like Blessing of the Zephyr does for travel powers?
Implementing a revamp would be hard, but that doesn't mean it's not necessary. What do you guys think? -
From what I've seen, tunnel or underground maps in general seem to be your best bet. Offices and outdoor maps by their very nature will have a lot of "featureless dead space".
I've used some 'CoT small' maps in a recent mission of mine (as well as some different caves in another), and on a large team (or with the proper team-size settings) the groups of foes often seem to just about bleed over into one another (agro fun!) when enough of them are spawning. -
Quote:I'd like to thank everyone for playing my arc, I got some good feedback on a few things here and there to update/make clearer.Another fun run today, had the team up to 7 players for the 2 arcs we played.
Decided to load up some MA SG member arcs and get feedback from the group on 'em:
First Up: Against the WickerWork Khan! #346904 by @Clave Dark 5
Follwed by: Zagmuk Act One: The Herald by @Sumericon
Zagmuk was pretty good. My only complaint with it might be the wordiness of it, but that's probably just my own bias peeking through as I like to keep things fairly tight. The story was pretty intricate though so it's at best only a slight defect if that (see above about personal taste). I appreciated the amount of detail and research that went into it. -
Quote:Thanks for playing! I'm pleased you liked them both. ^^Arc ID#101165 by @Clave Dark 5, Too Many Bunnygirls
Comments: Haha, Spec Ops Lts! I also really liked the last mission with the 4 bosses.
Arc ID#148476 by @Clave Dark 5, AE Premium Quality
Comments: A rather weird arc. It was hard to figure out exactly what I had to do in a couple of the missions because the mission objectives were so garbled. I realize that was the point but it was confusing. The humor won me over though.
I'll agree with you on the second one, it is (by nature) a bit rough to follow. Not to denigrate my own work but it's probably the "least strong" of my currently-four story-based arcs. I'm glad you still found "not without its charms" though.
I really appreciate the plays and the feedback, thanks again! -
Quote:Very much this, listen to that teddy bear, even if he's a smoker!Personally, Radu, I tend to shelve my 50's once they hit the Big Ding, but that's more because I'm goal-oriented, don't dig Badging, and can't set "arbitrary" goals (accumulate 1billion Inf, get Accolades, fully IO-out the toon).
But let me re-iterate what others have said, playing 1-50 on a Shield/Mace Tank is an entirely different game vs. playing thru on a Illusion/Storm Controller, or an Emp/Rad Defender, or Rad/Rad Defender, or an Ill/Kin, or a Grav/Kin, or....
Someone did the math once, here on the Forums, and there are literally hundreds of possible powerset combos (Heroes & Villains), and each one provides an entirely different experience.
You say you're experiencing Altitis already...Me, I *have* to get to 50 before starting a new toon, which lets me really immerse myself in each toon before moving on to the next.
Don't slow yourself down, getting that first 50. But once you do, do consider just putting him on the shelf like a trophy and moving on to your next conquest. There are still *hundreds* of "worlds" left to "conquer".
Unlike other MMOs (or so I am told), CoH does not "begin when you hit 50" - it begins at level one. Once you hit fifty you can do some of the things others have mentioned or shelve the toon and start a totally different new one.
This is not a design flaw or an oversight or "stupid", this is WAI.
Most players have many alts and are making more all the time, such as myself (after three years I'm still making more! :P) Heck, I often never reach 50 on a given toon before I get excited by the next new one I've made and run with that one instead. If you only ever play one toon in this game, you are in a small minority (not that that's the wrong way to play either!).
Once again, this is not a design flaw or an oversight or "stupid", this is WAI.
Welcome to the game -

I've generally had good experiences as well. When Ido, I often end my last email to them with something like "thanks and have a great day!", jst because I bet they don't see that too often.

This for me. I've taken two extended breaks lasting a month or two and was glad I kept it up while I was away. Then again, unlike you I didn't have something I was waiting for, I just never got around to playing, but it was always there waiting for me when I did get the urge.

Currently sitting at 12 plays, 5 stars.
Why bother playing all those slick Dev Choice and five-star Hall Of Fame pretty-boys when you can help the underdog?!
Edit: Considering that I'm at five stars, ignore my "five star... pretty-boys" comment above and bask in the glory and uber-slickness of my five star arc!
Also, thanks to some good feedback I've sanded off a few rough edges (a stray typo, etc.); if you find any, please let me know. -
I for one welcome our new phangurl overlords who use NSA satellites and internet-enabled microcameras...
Hey, they can't be any worse than Nemesis, right? -
Yes, there was and is a difference between farming and exploiting loopholes. I can't recall the devs being extra explicit about it, but they more or less let us know that they accept that there's always going to be a certain amount of farming; what was driving them up the wall was people exploiting their toons to level 50 in four hours.

Quote:Try playing at 3 AM on anything other than Virtue or Freedom. No desire to play on Virtue or Freedom... it's all the same on any server, and playing elsewhere helps contain the notion that the other servers don't have people (it's not true, people just aren't looking).
Actually, I've heard one of the other servers has something of an Aussie population, which therefore plays at 3 AM, does anyone remember which one that is? I think it was Justice... -

The ski slopes are just about the only thing in the game I have absolutely NO interest in. I just can't see the fun in playing a forgettable twitch-style video game when I could be playing an MMO.
-
Quote:I usually end up using it if I've got nothing else to do, such as when I'm playing an MM and waiting for stuff to recharge or something. It's a nice little extra to keep around.Once IOs and set bonuses came on the scene, however, the Sands has become an integral part of my attack chain on all of my melee toons.
I've only gone with the axe on one toon, but that was ages ago and I can't recall if it was every that helpful. -
Quote:So you mean "everywhere" except "Freedumb and UnVirtuous", right? Being biased against certain serves is not being "serverless".I'm not moving any of my characters... instead I am starting NEW characters on almost every server. Why would I want to perpetuate the ever-constant "growth" and sheeple-ness of Freedumb and UnVirtuous?
Be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem. Go serverless yourself and play everywhere. -
Quote:This is something along the lines of what I generally aim for.Make the rest of the enemy group a pushover in order to counterpoint individual strong enemies?
I'm here more to tell stories than challenge people so I don't want them to get too distracted by the combat. It helps that most weapon sets like Dual Blades or AR tend to not be too scary to face in large masses; these are attacks one would expect to run across in a fair number of "normal" places - security guards, gangs, mercenaries, bunnygirls, the list goes on. Even my challenging arc listed below used them (plus I didn't set the AV's powersets to EXTREEEEEME).
I do have a certain sense of constriction and resentment about having to make such choices though. I could easily say "this alien/robot/bunnygirl race really should have 'PowerSet X', it's thematically perfect" and then suffer the slings and arrows of outraged players who hated facing a group with "Troublesome Power From PowerSet X"; in fact, I have already. I feel this hampers my story telling. -

Quote:Unless you have a lot of friends, you really have to SELLSELLSELL your arc on the forums. It's dull, tedious work, but it's better than nothing.Unless you have a lot of friends who are willing to try your arc out, I wouldn't recommend unpublishing. Before I remade it, I had about 20-30 something votes at four stars, which took me a while to get. Since I re-made it a few months ago, I haven't gotten a single play. =(
(In case you haven't heard, 4 stars is also a sort of kiss of slow death - not because your arc is junk but because there's a lot of five star and dev choice etc. arcs out there that a random peruser will probably jump on before they reach the 4 star category. Every one of my arcs is at four stars and unless I get someone here to try it, I almost never get players either. :P) -
I'd say keep it up. Plays are harder to come by these days, no point in tossing them out.
If you have to work on it in shifts, so to speak, change the description the player sees in the MA window to something like "under construction, please try again later". I usually publish arcs before it's quite done with such a message just so I can earn some tickets during the inevitable and long testing phase.
Then again if you're majorly reworking it, some might complain this is a tad unscrupulous since it might not be "the same arc" anymore. You have to make that call... if it were me and I was just refining the arc to try and make it more of what I wanted, closer to what I was trying for the first time, I'd keep it up. -

What the heck, I'll toss in my very first arc TOO MANY BUNNYGIRLS! which is (all together now!) listed in my sig down there (@Clave Dark 5). It's comedy, plays fairly quickly and you don't have to fight any EBs or AVs. 3 maps.
You might also consider my other arcs, here's a brief guide based on your concerns:
My second arc, A.E.'s Premium Quality is also comedy+shortish but the customs in the final mish can be difficult for lower levels or certain builds, which might stretch play out - just FYI. 3 maps too. BTW, ignore the orange text about there being an EB or AV in this arc; this is a dev-confirmed bug - no such beastie exists in this mission.
My third, DayJob Hell is for villains 1-10 so that doesn't play exactly quickly, yet it's not a monster epic either. Probably not a great source of crazy-tickets though. 4 maps, one tiny.
My latest, Against The WickerWork Khan! is fairly short but best suited for higher levels or very low difficulty settings (I've soloed it with a 25th level stalker though). The higher level you are and the lower you set it, the faster you'll go. It has a few comedic touches as well, but is far from angsty or 'deep'. 3 maps.
I hope you enjoy any of these that you might choose to play. -
Wow, I was just considering this very same sort of question this morning before bed! I've never had a phase power so I have no idea how they work out.
So if I was phased, my foes were not and I set a trip-mine, what would happen? What about if I put out my acid mortar while phased? Seeker drones, caltrops?
What if the foes were phased and I wasn't? Sounds like these things would all still attack... but would the phased foes flee caltrops like they always do when unphased? -
Quote:Oh sweet Zod yes! I've been feeling that that area of costumes was woefully under-finished for a while now.it has strongly been hinted, i believe at herocon, that mutation will be monstrous bits related. no idea of content though.
As for slotting for Ninja Run, I put one extra slot in Swift and the just used the single in Hurdle and it's worked really really well as a travel for me
