I would imagine they wanted to create a system people could really sink their teeth into, not something they could sort of walk through in a couple of play sessions. Getting to 50 isn't easy, quick or without complexity either.

Quote:That reminds me of the earliest 'oops' I can think of. I was running my Kat/Regen scrapper, the first toon I had taken above 20-something, and was at about 45 or so. The only GM or AV I had ever faced before was Lusca, since I had only been playing maybe six months. I joined a PUG and we started some mission where we face down The Clockwork King on a big destroyed-city map. While the team was crossing the map to him, I had gotten there early and I stood there looking and thought "What could it hurt, I can always super leap away" so I hopped over and whacked him, once.My funniest (for me at least) was on a LGTF. First mission, I was on my Invulnerability/Super Strength Tank and handling stuff just fine.
Yep you guessed it, got to Clockwork King, ran in threw taunt and was dead before it finished animating. Oh yeah, Invulnerability doesn't do well against psionic damage, guess I should have hit a purple and orange or two before doing that
"Oh, so that's why he's showing as purple..." I felt better later when it ended up with a couple of team wipes before we got him. Looking back, that's no real reason to feel better of course, but it helped at the time. -
I had a DB/DA scrapper named Rusty Scissors that looked like a rusting robot; colored his DA to orange tones, which worked out well. I never got him up past 10th I think though.
I also currently have a small girl named Blood-Gusher who's body exudes ectoplasm (that might be mistaken for blood) in such quantities that she has to let loose with great gouts of the stuff or she'll burst and die. She's an Energy/Dark Corr, and all of her powers are colored red, of course; the idea/recolor fits better with Dark than the Energy, but so it goes. -
Sometimes when I come across one of those gold-spammers standing at a market and spamming his "Come join us at stupidgold4U.com!", I'll go up and smack him repeatedly after I've /ignorespammer'ed him.

Reasons For Playing This Arc Over The New Incarnate Content in no particular order...
1) This arc has nothing to do with the Well of the Furies.
2) This arc in unlikely to elicit cries of DOOOM! from other players.
3) Shards, threads, notices, WTH?! Everyone understands tickets.
4) You won't get bounced off your team or server upon entering a map in this arc.
5) Cut scenes, shmut scenes.
6) You can solo this arc in less than 2 years of play and for less than a billion inf.
7) I'm so well regarded as an MA author that I've won an award for costume design... wait a second, that didn't come out right...
8) You might enjoy an arc that reflects your more-tenuous grasp on reality as you consider the growing number of currencies being added to the game.
9) The more new content the devs release, the better this arc looks.
10) Because no matter how long you stand around waiting, the new league-forming tool will never get you on one.
11) None of my missions are gratuitously labeled a "WTF".
12) You're already growing tired of ITFs (Incarnate Trial Fails).
13) I've stopped trying to be funny except on the forums.
14) Why bother playing the new content when you know you won't like it anyways? -
Spit happens. Turn off the computer and go watch a movie or something if your get-up-and-go has been crushed, then come back later.
Keep in mind it won't be like this forever and you'll feel better. -
Quote:I once teamed with a guy who was running a warshade named something like "a little bunny" and saw much hilarity come from that.IIRC, there was someone who named their character "a little kitten" just to create a silly effect with NPC chat.
I keep trying to think of some name along those lines that I wouldn't mind living with for 40-odd levels as well, but no luck so far. -
I think off the top of my head I'll go with Watership Doom, my scarred-n-armored bunnygirl MM.
In second place comes Clave Dark 5, who's name is not just a pointless spoonerism, turns out "clave" is a real word, if archaic.
In third, as I'm always most fond of just my latest creations would be Multiple Mindys, an unfortunate scientist who volunteered for a Crey portal experiment; now her spacesuit-like protective gear malfunctions by shedding waves of electricity and she exists as a focal point for the interchanging of one of five different alternate universe versions of herself... who all happen to use some alien-looking mace to bash people with (Mace/Elec tank). She's basically an excuse to have five wildly different costumes on one toon. -
It was me, sorry. I was trying to figure out how to make more off the markets and accidentally divided by zero.

Quote:While I haven't played any flashbacks, I was referring to the option being available in the MA, or not as the case may be.Go play an Ouro arc and see what happens at the beginning and end of a mission. Unless you've disabled it in your graphic options.
Personally I find the effect bothers my eyeballs so even if people could use it, it'd be best if they didn't. Though there are interesting possibilities for some Golden Age action complete with that aged look.
I'd be up to having it added though, more options is always good. -
I haven't seen that feature myself,so you must have been smoking something.
(Then again, I've been known to miss things right in front of me, so maybe I'm the one who's been smoking.) -

Good news, everyone!
I found I had time this morning (before heading out of town) to run the arc through the spell-checker. I made a couple of text changes along the way and took care of the one missing word Rayonn caught and mentioned (and hopefully that was it).
So consider this arc open for playing! -
Generally, I find that "over hyped" gets tossed at Topic X by detracters who resent that everyone talking about Topic X.
That said, my eyes start glazing over like something from Krispy Kreme when I try and read threads about i20. Please note this is coming from a player who:
A) rarely plays a toon all the way to 50
B) almost never plays them after 50
c) is unlikley to cheange either A or B
So yes, I'll agree that i20 is over-hyped (heh), as everyone seems to be going on and on, round and round about it and I don't really care much about this Topic X. -

I'm holding out for a non-stop zombie/Rikti invasion that lasts all week-end.

Quote:Thank you for the kind review, Rayonn!
I wish I could get on to fix the typoes and misspelled words he mentioned, but as I said in Rayonn's thread, I'm going to be out of town and won't be able to get to the game until I get back. If anyone reading this is the kind of player who cringes at such errors, then yeah, wait until I can update.
Also, I updated the poster in the first post. -
Quote:Thanks for sticking with the arc despite the word problems!Mission 1:
Sometimes reviewing an arc is no fun, because you read a great creepy intro like this, and have to write: I think you left out a word from Ive always magical as
And components is misspelled.
The Haunted Robots are tough, given that I lack any defense or resistance to Psi. Oh well.
The dialogue and clues were well written. Theres something about your word choice that really sets up the atmosphere.
I could blame my numerous edits being eaten, I could blame that screen problem where sometimes you type and the cursor disappears off the end of the line and the keystrokes don't appear until you set the cursor down elsewhere, but... I probably messed up that given example while tweaking my wording and accidentally dropped "been". I had planned to get on today and spellcheck the whole thing and double check for dropped words, but... well... you know, no server access. I'm going out of town tomorrow for the next 10 days or so and I won't have access to the game to fix these small details, sadly. Hopefully anyone else interested will ignore the small flubs in favor of the story.
The Haunted Robots didn't give me much problem, but I was play-testing it on basic settings - that usually results in just three foes in each group. I know some people like to be forewarned about psychic attacks for the reason you mentioned (no resistance or Def to psy), so that's why I did drop the warning on the arc's thread.
Quote:Mission 2:
pleasantly is misspelled in the send-off dialogue.
Your names for the repurposed enemies are better than the originals, I think.
Emily seems really unhinged. The bit about Valerie Gaul being in that pond sound like something out of Neil Gaiman. (recognize is misspelled in that clue)
Quote:Mission 3:
This was amazingly good. The process of elimination that led up to the semi-reveal of what happened to Emily really built up some suspense. The distractions also added some nice flavor.
Quote:Mission 4:
Did you purposely misspell recognize then?
There are a few twists in this mission, which I liked.
If I had done that on purpose, I'd have probably included a [sic]; again, my bad on that.
Quote:Overall:
Well, really the only fault I can find with this is that it needs proofreading. There are a few spelling errors, missing words, and other typos.
In terms of story, I would say its simply superb. This was a short review simply because I didnt have anything to complain about and didnt want to spoil anything.
If I list the works of fiction that I want to compare this to, I end up listing something by pretty much every one of my favorite authors. Bravo.
Thanks for the review! -

I'll toss in my lowbie arc for villains, if that's ok. It's called DayJob Hell and it's listed in my sig, #322480.
-
I don't want to mention Nemesis here, but...
-
I would kind of figure it has to be money. Say I take my 50 scrapper to Atlas and run around taking down grey-con Hellions for an hour, for example. I then present myself at the market to reap the rewards of my "favors and fame" and what would I get?
"Well, yeah Clave, thanks and all but... I mean, those guys are dangerous gang members and everything, um... yes, you certainly did put a lot of them behind bars, a lot, and it's not that we aren't grateful, exactly... but..." -
