As an Empath, with the secondary of ice, does it make more sense to build for Ranged Def, with a fair amount of Energy/Neg Energy or go with Smash/Lethal defense with some Melee def?
I know there isn't a right answer to this question, just curious what the word on the street is. -
Quote:From the Wikipedia entry listed aboveUh-oh, you're about to commit the fallacy of equivocation.
When people talk about "rent seeking" as "manipulating the market", they mean specifically causing the market to behave in an irrational way from which the manipulator benefits. However, when we talk about actions which affect markets, while they can be called "manipulating" in the broader English sense of "manipulating" a thing as "having some effect on it", they are not "manipulating" in that narrower sense.
Rent seeking generally implies the extraction of uncompensated value from others without making any contribution to productivity...
I'm not saying its bad, it is what it is. -
Quote:Hint, try listing smarter.
If I list the items I acquire while out punching dudes, I will list them in "stacks" of from 1 to 4 items, typically. If, on the other hand, I buy and sell a specific item in quantity, I list them in "stacks" of 10. Which of these keeps more items listed per slot in use? (Hint: Try comparing "1 to 4" with "10".)
Quote:Yes. I have 20 characters and I have to search around at some length to find open slots.
Quote:But wait! What we all want is lower prices. Prices are formed by the interaction of supply and demand. Supply lowers prices, demand raises them. More supply lowers prices. That is, in fact, a good thing.
Quote:Consistency is in and of itself a desirable thing. Why do people buy insurance? Because a slightly higher price that you can be confident of and build plans around is a better deal than a slightly lower price on average that could be wildly higher or lower. When selling, the same thing applies, only you'll accept a lower price in exchange for consistency, usually.
Why not simplify this question to "why do some people prefer not to gamble?", since that's the question you're really asking. -

Quote:Isn't that manipulating the market? Isn't that what 'rent seeking' profit is?They're recirculating junk that would otherwise have disappeared, and they deal in volume. Not only are they personally increasing listings, they're inspiring others to list as well- the better the return people can get on their junk, the more motivated they are to sell it.

Cool, then I'm sure you will show me in your next few lines ...
Quote:Flippers (usually) buy things that the original sellers don't care that much about, because obviously if the seller cared more about them, then he'd have set his price higher.
Quote:Then the flippers turn those items around for a profit when demand is higher.
Maybe I'm wrong when I think stable doesnt mean increase ...Quote:If there's an over-arching downside to the actions of flippers, then it comes (ironically) from a lack of competing flippers to drive the potential profit margins down.
Quote:My Level 50 Tanker has 57 slots in his salvage inventory, and (IIRC) 26 slots in his recipe inventory. That same character has 18 market slots. If I want to sell a full load of my goods, then I need at least my low-tier salvage to move quickly.
But a flipper isn't a store, they're the guy wakes up earlier then you and buys up all the corn.Quote:For that matter, isn't any investment technically an example of flipping?
Are you confusing me with someone who thinks that market is evil and people who profit from it and having badwrongfun? -
Quote:Do you have proof that flippers are increasing the number of listings? It seems to me they are simply buying something and raising the price, keeping the number of listings the same.
In particular, with recipes and salvage, flippers are clearly improving market stability by increasing the number of bids/listings available, because they are putting whole stacks in each WW slot. With crafted enhancements, bids can still be on stacks, but listings can't, which creates some asymmetry, but it still increases availability.
Is there evidence that people don't have enough slots to sell everything they want to?
If anything, the people who list things for absurdly large sums that don't sell are increasing supply, not that that's a good thing.
Quote:
When I have a bunch of junk in my salvage inventory and don't really care about it, I tend to list it all for 1 inf. If flippers are buying it, great! They're ensuring that there's a steady supply of bids on that salvage, so I get my market slots back immediately. Instead of waiting for the next person to come along, I get an instant sale. The only time that sale goes to a flipper is when the flipper was bidding more than anyone else was when I listed. So every time I sell to a flipper, I come out ahead of where I would have been without the flipper. If I sell to a non-flipper, I'm probably getting a more stable price anyway, because the flippers have nudged that item's price towards a stable center point. -
Cool, thanks, was above lvl 7 and doing AE tickets, thanks for the quick replies.
-
Why when my recipe inventory isn't full, does the ticket vendor tell me my inventory is full when you I go for reward rolls?

Where do you make this purchase, and where then would you spend the merits?
figured it out, just go to fort trident and click on the box of junk -
How does it work if I throw the call to arms def proc in gang war? Will it trigger for 2 minutes every time I summon them, or does it work all the time? And will it affect all my pets?
-
So I know that this will be a moot point in I19, but are the elec doms taking stamina?

Is the xp rewarded for defeating standard critters the same in AE as out? It seems reduced, but I've been gone for a bit.
And I understand the reductions in custom critters and farming. -
Thanks for the help, new question. How much bigger do I need to make my plot to be able to add more salvage storage. I'm maxed out the amount allow for the begining plot, and it seems that if I upgrade by one size I still get the 'you've reached the max allow workshop for this plot' message.

I received my 2 year vet reward comic covers, placed them on the base, then decided I dont like them where they are. Is there any way to remove them without destroying them?
Also what happens when you make you base a larger plot? Does everything survive and you just receive more space? -

I didnt read most of the thread, so if this has been covered I apologize.
My buddy started play this week, and we got him to 50 and are now powerleveling his crab, but since mitos are gone I was wondering if lt's or bosses are faster, and what level I should set it to 52 or 54? Any responses would be great, I'm not good at math. -

Oh, and why do Stalkers get broadswords? That weapon wasn't really meant to be silent.

As opposed to silent Thunder Strikes? -
I had a level 50 "STOP CRYING ABOUT OLD PVP" that was pretty fun.

People who justify being hostile to other people by saying 'but the rules allowed it' are punks, and need to grew a pair.

Then those of you trying to take this to another level better be ready to step before a ethics review board to state your case. Otherwise, its your word against again...a ""internationally-recognized scholar".
Good luck with that!
