I also agree with his two points; you can't endlessly keep Peter Parker as a teenager/man-child. He can still be jokey and a punster and be well....Spider-Man whilst being married and even eventually fathering a daughter. It's as if Spider-Man is a metaphor for a male midlife crisis or something. 'You can't go back, you can never go back!'

Quesada is a horrible, horrible writer. Linkara didn't have to sell me, I was looking at and reading the panels as he went through the issues. How this guy replaced people like Jim Shooter is beyond me. But then this is the same industry that's supported Liefeld and Didio.

My only question is have they gotten the pair back together or are fans still disgruntling for change? I'm not sure it matters seeing as they reboot the Marvel and DC Universes every other calendar year now, but I am curious.

They're still apart. MJ still appears like once every 20 issues, and each time it feels like she's only there to tease fans about "what was." Her entire character has been dwindled down into a symbol for regret; in the comics that they never went through with the marriage. In the eyes of the fans that Joey Q. holds such sway over the character.

Teams or solo? Most of my controllers are team-oriented but able to solo slowly if I don't have a team. However, if I expect the controller to solo most of the time, I will make a different build.

Melee or ranged? Again, the build will be different if you have a tendecy to run into melee vs. generally stay at the edges. Some people like to play Controllers like a scrapper, while others like to stay back and be more of a field general.

Moderate price or mega-expensive? You can have a very effective character at a moderate price.
Oh. I should have gotten that.

    OK, the controllers I have that I love are Fire/Rad, Ice/Kin, Illu/Rad, and Fire/Storm.
The controllers that I have and like are Elec/Time.
The controllers that I have and merely tolerate are Earth/Sonic and Plant/Thermal (I'm not a healing fan; I should have known better).

I haven't been able to get into Gravity (though the only shot I've given it is a level 24 Dominator), nor Mind (though I think I've only played it to level 10, if that - I just like the promise of pets at 32, I think).

So, put in that perspective, I like being in the muck with the melee, PBAoE toggles, and slight damage potential. Elec/Time may be my safest controller, but the lack of damage (currently level 33, so that will change, at least a little, with an APP) irks me.

I make Controllers with the predominant intention of teaming, but I want to be able to run a mission or two solo if I have to.

The most I put into a build is set IOs, then occasional purples as they drop. Though both the Plant/Thermal and the Earth/Sonic only got Generic IOs + cheap Slow or Immob procs. So if I like the Controller a lot (as is the intention before even beginning it!) then I'll dump like 80 mill into it and call it a day until drops convince me otherwise.

The secondaries that don't interest me are Trick Arrow (I don't want redraw, nor ever came up with any sort of good archer concept), Thermal, Empathy, Sonic, or Force Field. I wouldn't mind playing Kin or Storm again. I should probably stay away from /Rad (two 50's already) and /Time (currently leveling), but I could be convinced. The most attractive, however, would be a set I've never put extensive time into, such as /Cold, /Dark, or /Poison.

So. Given those parameters, what are my Dark Control pairing options? In fact, now that I've talked about it so much, does anyone want to make a strong push to also start a Mind or Gravity Controller? Dark is the priority, but now I'm curious!
  3. Woops... Are Enhancement Converters not one of the things in Super Packs? I thought I had a ton... But I only had one. Maybe I was thinking of Enhancement Boosters, of which I have 131...

I don't know. Fun? I have so many characters, I don't know of any hole in my heart I'm needing to fill.

Hmm, ok, that changes things a bit. That actually sounds pretty cool. Thanks for all of the replies and clarifications!
  6. The fact that no one remembers it is probably the best that can be said for it.

Also, that was more... enthusiastic... but the board ate my all-caps.
  7. This may seem cynical... But I'm not overly impressed with either sets. I'm not a Dominator fan, so I won't touch that one, but:

•Burst of Speed (AoE self TP) - Is there anymore description for this one? Is it a teleport damage aoe like we've sen before?

•Reach for the Limit (Build up auto power—Chance for +dam and +ToHit on every power) - Never been too interested in the alternative to Build Up damage buffs... Seems better suited for a Scrapper.

    Although...

•Inner Will (self heal and ,ez break—only unsable under 50% end or health or when mezzed) - Despite the other shortcomings, this one probably sells the set.

I've been debating Dark/Ice Vs. Dark/Dark. I haven't played any of these sets involved extensively, though I've started /Ice once or twice and fizzled out in the teens... That one seems to be another late bloomer.

Spider-Island was fun, but the recent Ends of the Earth story just dragged and didn't add much of anything.

OMD is the worst thing to ever happen to Spider-Man. I loved Mary Jane. I hated the story. I think OMIT was a little better, but suitably, I can't remember anything about it.

So what is this Atop the Fourth Wall thing? Angry Video Game Nerd for comic fans? I'll at least give it a shot when I get a chance, but an hour is asking a lot.
  10. I can't offer any costuming suggestions, but I wanted to say Good Luck! And I want to see pictures.
  11. Both blocked, thank you though.

They block as many game-related sites as they can. Some get through - I can't go the the main CoH page, but I can get to the forums directly - Not sure what the qualifier is.
  12. Ah, great. The Wiki is blocked at work, so I'll have to check it out later from home.

Really? Catalysts are ATO only, you get them from Incarnate trials, but you can only get ATOs from Super Packs? Is that right?

Oh, what about some guidance for Enhancement Boosters? I think that's more what I was angling for the first time regarding Purple and regular Set IOs.
  13. I just moved a couple of heroes to the server.

I'm amazed at how quickly the public channels (Arena, Help, LFG) move, and it's such a great sight to see after believing the game was completely dead (from an Infinity server standpoint).

But as I am predominately based on another server, I need a good Global channel to monitor when not on Freedom.

I was directed, via the Freedom Help channel, to FreedomTF... After a day of monitoring, I don't think this could be the most active global channel...

I'm interested in it all, TFs, Trials, badges, mission teams, whatever. Could someone direct me to the most active, public Freedom channel? or multiples, if needed? I have enough space available, I believe.

    Thanks.
  14. Ice is a wonderful set, but my very first blaster was an Ice/Fire, and I don't think the sets are all that compatible.

I believe the best combo with /Fire is probably Rad, but as that isn't a choice, I'd probably go Psy/. More AoEs to combine with it than the other sets.
  15. FOLLOW-UP:

Enhancement Converters: I keep forgetting that there is now an option for my junk recipes other than putting them on the auction house for 2 inf. I could use a handy chart that groups Set IO enhancements by rarity. Does something like that exist?

Secondly, I could use a further breakdown on how Enhancement Catalysts function. Perhaps with an example?

Catalyzing a Miracle +Regen does what?
Catalyzing a Ragnarok Dmg/Acc does what?
Catalyzing a Scrapper Dmg ATO does what?

And finally, since my last posts, I've invested in about 80 Super Packs. I have more team inspirations, ally rezzes, and enhancement unslotters than I'll ever use now, and still, I don't think I've gotten any full ATO sets (I didn't get my first Controller and Tanker ATOs until within the last 5 packs). That vanity pet everyone talks about? Fuhgeddabout it!

Does anyone know if the new Super Pack set is forthcoming? They're on sale this week... If this is one last push to eke profits out of the pack before retiring it, it's working!, but I'll try to resist if the new Super Pack (and do details exist for that?) is impending.

    Thanks again.
  16. At level 33, I love my Water/Psy blaster on groups... Then can't bring myself to play more than one mission solo.

I'm happy with it. I've soloed enough throughout my time in the game.
  17. yeah, I didn't realize it wasn't until last week when I tried to get a friend into it. Steam though, so at least everyone interested will be able to try it out next week.
  18. It's above. ChrisMoses there as well.
  19. You weren't steered wrong - Y The Last Man is a great one.

    I'd also suggest:

Annihilation (Marvel) (Big sprawling space epic; main issues by Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning)
Saga (Image, by Brian K. Vaughn)
Powers (formerly Image, currently Marvel, by Brian Michael Bendis)
Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine (Marvel, by Jason Aaron)
    Invincible (Image, by Robert Kirkman)
The Walking Dead (Image, by Robert Kirkman)
Marvels (Marvel, by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross)
The Immortal Iron Fist (Marvel, by Matt Fraction)
Silver Surfer: Requiem (Marvel, by J. Michael Straczynski (sp?))
  20. My bad. I was around back when that was decreed, but I forgot about it. An iOS game doesn't really have any competition with an MMORPG though, does it? bleh.
  21. Oh, it's also asynchrous play (like Words with Friends or something like that), so you can play it throughout the day when you get a 5 minute window, rather than remain hunkered over your phone for an hour at a time.
  22. Does anyone play it? It's a grid-based strategy game for the iOS.

There are four teams right now:

The Knights (Council) and Dark Elves -

    The Dwarves -

    and The Tribe

The game is coming to Steam 8/8/12, IIRC, and will be gaining a new team...

    The TF2 guys.

It's free through the app store, though it only comes with the Council and plays ads between turns. One purchase and the ads go away; teams are $1-3, depending on sales.

Does anyone want to play? I'm ChrisMoses through there as well. Challenge me! Or give me your name and I'll challenge you.

If you're new to it, I'll warn you... I may be addicted. It could happen to you, too!
  23. Sorry to pull a no-show... I fell asleep at 8 p.m. yesterday. :\
  24. I've been wanting to do this one, but I never have a good enough chunk of free time. I'll try to make the time.
