I tend to vary. I figure if they're not taking SOME damage, I should see if I overslotted survivability over damage. Sometimes there's room for improvement, sometimes, you're doing well on both ( I do have a character that survived 5 minutes AFK surrounded by +1 x8 mobs, she's also got substantial damage slotting. )

I AM spoiled though-- I team with my wife, and we usually have duo'ing pairs, so we usually slot to compliment one another. If neither of us have healing/buffing abilities, we slot for defense... if we have a regular defender controller or corruptor, though, the other can be more aggressive in build.

Exactly. Don't worry about making everyone happy. All that matters is whether I'm happy.
  5. I think some of the confusion came from way back when this press release came out:

I really don't care for voice chat, but I'd be interested in an open API for the chat box. You could, in theory, then use voice chat and Windows Speech Recognition together... with your poorly-transcribed chatter sent straight to the chat window.

... I can just see the moment where a laughable mis-transcription creates such a "wtf" moment that the whole team wipes.

    Children

I can't find any published rules or guidelines online, but its been alluded a few times that gameplay that has the potential to display violence against children gets additional scrutiny by the ESRB or other authorities. Games like "Bully" or "Rule of Rose" displays actions of kids against kids, so they may not have raised as many objections (the theory goes).

I'm not entirely convinced its the ESRB-- there are several "hair trigger" issues that various parents' or religious groups look for, misconstrue, and hype to all hell in their vigilance against the industry, and many games may just want to reduce the risk of raising THEIR ire...

This is City of Heroes. Time is irrelevant. We've got Ouroboros.

Edit: on second thought, the Carbon Law might come into play with this one....
  8. Building off the Vanguard Pack, I'd suggest something akin to the old cheesy recruitment videos of old... They have a serious tone and footage, but then transition to some of the more quirky moments in the game.

I haven't have enough morning coffee to get into too much detail, but:

    "Join Vanguard"

"Defend the City, Defend the World"
(start with Levantera/Borea RWZ and Apex battles... end with scenes of Fusionette pulling mobs to obviously-unprepared team of heroes. )

"Team With Others of Incredible Power"
(Serpent Drummer or Tin Mage recruiting a team VERY different characters... from the obvious 4-color hero to Mister "SkullsandDarkityDarkDeath" types. ("recruiting" is done by walking along a line of heroes and pointing to individuals, like he's selecting the members of his task force. The last character "selected" is Fusionette, with that, the rest of the team shows despair/facepalms.)

    "Rescue the Defenseless"
(Rescue The hostages mission... heroes free General AArons, point to the exit. Gen AArons runs to the next mob and starts pistol whipping them, team facepalms)

"Take the fight to the enemy"
(Tin mage task force)... haven't done it so can't add any quirks

    "Work together as a team"
(Gaussian, followed by Gaussian's arc full of infighting)

    "Expose Dark Secrets"
    (Dark Watcher standing stoically)
Character a: "It's a Nemesis Plot" with dramatic flair.
Character b c d: continue to casually drink soda, tea, and enrich, munching on donuts
"When ISN'T it a Nemesis plot"

    etc...
  9. I nominate:

"THE COURSE OF SUPERHERO ROMANCE" fully done in machinema.

    Get cracking.

That seems less like Bad Horse's Terrible Death Whinny(tm) and more akin to Samurai Sheep's Battle Bleat(tm).

Still, it isn't EXACTLY like that battle bleat.... its a good replication.... not just some cheap knockoff decoy. That had to have been done by one heckuva major decoy.

Edit: Guess it could have been Ronin Ram's Bushido Bleat.... they're tough to tell apart, and neither's backing down from their trademark lawsuit.

I think the superman reference was more just a joke- hinting that he and all other Kryptonians would be generic'ed in THIS game.

I'm actually surprised they're booster material. I'd hoped for a new high-level Praetorian zone where these kinds of critters would feel right at home.

Imagine a "lost world" styled land (kind of a staple of the superhero genre) just outside of Praetoria. Its a place where Hamidon has begun the process of reverting the earth back to what it was before man... where perhaps captive humans are mutated into part-animal forms to take the place of creatures previously driven to near extinction.

Of course, Hamidon seems to like more of a "devoured" look for human captives... so maybe this is the work of a twisted scientist that believes he's "saving" humanity by distorting them into forms that Hamidon doesn't see as a threat to the earth...
  19. My wishlist.

    1) "Normal" leg options for things that only appear under "Monstrous" legs.... for people that don't want to go with the beast-style legs, but would like to still have critterlike skins

    - "monstrous with fur" legs, for example
    - "reptile," IIRC is another. I believe "insect" is already there.
    - Clawed feet for regular legs, again, with fur, with scales, etc.

    2) Some variation tweaks for the heads we've seen... whether they're patterned colors for the eagle-head's feathers or general accessories for the cat heads (ear types, with/without mane, patterns, etc)

    3) some kind of solution for the "claws" weapon set that makes it appear like "natural" claws. (longshot, since this is a technical issue)

It swamped everything anywhere near the river bank, like the outdoor music venue Riverbend and the amusement park next door in its relentless rise. It rained for 69 days straight, with 3 months of cloudy days and intermittent rain throughout. Half our roads were impassable for months afterward. And this was after the flash floods of winter '95, when record rainfall combined with rapid snowmelt.

A river starts rising, just head for high ground, because it's going to crush everything in its way. People who are killed in rising rivers aren't drowned, they're beaten and crushed to death. So stay as far away from the water as possible. You never know how fast it's going or if there are live power lines in it. Definitely never attempt to drive through it.
The difference here is in scope. The '97 Ohio river flood, as devestating as it was, covered less than 1/20 of the flood plain that's been hit here.

Saw some more headlines about the flooding in Queensland. Two feet of snow may be annoying for us, please remember flooding is extremely devastating.

Precisely. Especially at that geographic scale. Even if roads appear intact on the surface, they can have all the soil washed underneath... most likely the roads will be buckled and washed away.

It was tough enough for people to truck in resources from unflooded areas to Katrina victims or local town floods, but those resources usually come in on intact roads until the last dozen miles or so, where the flooding was. We're talking about to travel HUNDREDS of miles on flood-damaged roads and washed out bridges to get the most basic supplies to survivors.... all until those roads are fully fixed (potentially taking YEARS).

Things we take for granted with the snow- Fresh water, fuel, electricity, and sewage treatment-- all GONE for a very long time. Power lines will need restrung... but only after all the downed lines are accounted for. Fuel's gotta be trucked in too, Fresh water--- well, expect all your reservoirs to be flooded & filthy, so you'll be boiling your water for a while (if you have the aforementioned fuel)... Sewage? Well, the water treatment plants are probably underwater right now (another reason to have second thoughts in wading through that brackish water back to your homes) and there will be damage to them and their lines. They'll require tests & emergency maintenance at a scale that will overwhelm your sewer authority's normal staff...

All-in-all... it makes even our snow issues trivial in comparison. Heck, at least we can have snowball fights!

Aw, it was sad to see a thread with such good innuendo potential die off... I mean, you could have responded with something self-depreciating, like,

"What are you talking about? I've handled my Giant Size Man-Thing way too many times for it to be in mint condition!"

Or, of course, you could have issued a challenge:

"Ok, then... a contest: let's compare Giant Size Man-Things and see whose is better!"

Or, you could have gone for the nuclear option and fit enough innuendo into one post that you shut the whole thread down:

"Trust me, my Giant Size Man-Thing is nowhere near mint condition. Its as old as I am. I vaguely remember holding it it when I was just a kid... but it wasn't until much later that I learned to really appreciate it. As a teen, I finally grasped its potential and could barely keep my hands off it. Sometimes I was pulling it out several times a day just to experience the excitement over and over again.

So... anyway... yeah.... my Giant Size Man-Thing shows signs of wear... and although I do try to take care of it now, it wasn't until even later that I learned about protective sleeves...."
  23. I solo ran my /sr scrapper through Unai kemen's arc via ouroboros at +1 x8 difficulty, treating every map like a "kill all" mish. Got enough shards to make a whole uncommon alpha.

... and I will never EVER subject myself to that again.

Not going to say is perfect, but to me is far better than 1-20 red side and thousand times better 1-20 blue side.
I expect them to keep the "leave praetoria at 20" component, but have you return at 40-50 for a new zone level of content.

My first suspicion was that it would be level 40-50 content in the same zones that you had from 10-20... kinda an alternate instance... some places would have changed as the battle raged in your absence. You're now back, more prepared and ready for the next fight there.... plus heroes and villains who haven't been to Praetoria would be visiting THAT instance. That idea kinda became unlikely when they let anyone can use pocket D to get to the original lowbie Praetoria.
