All I want fer Christmas is some badge info,
So I can know 'f I should go Rogue!
  2. Y'know, I posted the other day just as a joke, but I got to thinking... if this works out for the OP, then I'm going to do the exact same damn thing.

I did date a CoH player for a few years, but we wanted different things out of life. I wanted to get married and start a family. She wanted to go play WoW. We're probably better off apart, but it still sucks that we couldn't work things out.

(Also, to the dude that's looking to get a girlfriend for him and his wife to share: C'mon man, save some chicks for the single guys!!! Go get involved with a couple that wants to swing, too. )
  3. I have a character (the second I ever made) who hasn't been logged in in 1937 days.

He's not in a supergroup, though.

EDIT: Nevermind, I can beat that. On another server, I have the original version of my main villain, made in 2004, at level 3. He hasn't been logged in for 2053 days.
  4. Agreed, fantastic idea. Über-signed.
  5. If you're dating women who say you're spending too much time on the game:

If you play an hour or two a few nights a week when your other responsibilities are done (taking care of your daughter, working, finished with any chores that need to be done around the house), then yes, she's probably being a little too overbearing.

If you play several hours a night almost every day of the week and/or neglect her, your daughter, work or chores, then I'm guessing you probably let a few "keepers" get away.

Anyway, best of luck to you, Mr. Myysty.

And to all you single ladies out there, I'm turning 30 next month, and would be happy to make the acquaintance of any 25-35 year old women who are interested in casual gaming with a decent guy who has a full-time job and a reasonably clean apartment.

You've just described every PUG in every MMO ever.
  7. A 32-bit operating system can support up to 3.25GB of RAM. I personally have had no issues with the game since upgrading to Win 7 Pro 64-bit, though I have what is currently considered a low-end video card. From what I've read, you may have to use older nVidia drivers, as the current 64-bit release apparently has a serious memory leak that causes rapid performance degredation.

As for 2 GTX 260s working in SLI, you should get pretty decent results according to Positron's thread on what video cards Ultra Graphics Mode will support. However, a single GTX 285 card might cost less and perform just as well (if not better due to specialized chip architecture).

    This is correct.

    OP:
And IF they ever allow you to buy specific recipes with tickets, they'll cost a lot more than twice the price of a random roll. If memory serves, the cheapest IO recipe you can buy with reward merits costs 100 merits, which is five times the cost of a random roll. Thus a pool C recipe (the pool in which your coveted Regenerative Tissue: +Regen recipe falls) would cost a minimum of 15,000 tickets... which far exceeds the personal ticket cap.

I know you covered the ticket cap and everything, but your proposed method would yet again unbalance the market and would allow for faster rewards than can be earned through standard content. Everything in the MA would become farms (again) for tickets and the devs would have no choice but to nerf the bejeezus out of it (again), which would in turn bring up the "I didn't know I was exploiting the system/devs hate us and don't want us to have fun" debates (again) and then I'd want to headbutt everybody (again). Please think of my poor skull--it can't handle that many headbutts!
  9. Starting from the bottom and working up:

I originally used the outdoor PTS map, but I got a lot of complaints about it. Also, sometimes (maybe 1 out of 10 times) the destructable objects wouldn't spawn, and a 10% failure rate is kind of ridiculous. I find that the mission flows a lot better using an indoor map. One of the things I was considering and wanted your opinion on was using the Demon Lab map--thoughts?

Operative Toth: I'll check the other available helmets. At the time, that's the only one I had (due to my preorder of CoV), so you're right; there might be a better-looking one available now.

Reflections on final AV: I'll do that, it's a very good idea.

Eletanks ARE short, they're only 5' tall. Granted, I'm personally not too much taller than that, but the bio should mention them being "shorter than an average human," unless I changed it and forgot. I'll double check it.

    Confusing sentence: I'll change it.

Skittles-speak: This is a little hit and miss... some people complained that I didn't use enough colored text, others complain that I use too much. I guess it's a matter of personal preference. My unofficial color code is:

green -- brief description of mission (e.g., "go the the warehouse and stop the Hellions!")
light green -- technical details or history that's important if you're interested in the story, but fine to skip if you just want to punch faces
    red -- timer/AV warning
orange -- detailing enemy group(s) you wouldn't expect to find in the mission (like Longbow in the Arachnos base, or when you're first introduced to the custom enemy group).
    blue -- allies
light blue -- canon CoH lore

Unless you have specific suggestions about what you think should return to normal white text, I'll probably leave it as is.

Spines Longbow: is actually a custom NPC using the powersets of Eric "Lieutenant" Nelson's main character, Stained Glass Scarlet. She just happens to be a Spines/Invulnerability Scrapper.

Operative Toth is named another good friend of mine from the SG and uses his character's powersets, making him an Energy/Energy Blaster. Archon Heilman is named after my ex-girlfriend who still plays the game occassionally, though the Assault Rifle/Super Reflexes combo was my idea, not hers; the character is patterned to look vaguely like my father (hurray for my blonde haired, blue eyed DNA in a game that has Nazis as bad guys).

The OTHER new idea I was contemplating, and wanted some input on, was possibly adding another mission in between the first (Arachnos lab) and second (Faultline dam) missions. It would be a non-combat mission in the Demon Lab map (if I don't end up using it for the final mission) full of friendly lab techs. The goal would be to get the security footage for Dr. B so he would understand what happened to his lab, thus sending you to Faultline to head off the bad guys. Do you feel the story flows well enough without this potential mission, or would it enrich what's already there?

Thanks a million for looking over my arc, and 2 million for your feeback!

Fixed. The first time I ran it (during the live test), we entered from Atlas park. There were maybe 4-5 level 50s, a couple in the 40s and 30s, and probably about 10 people under level 20. There were at least 15 people in the zone, and we still failed by a pretty wide margin.

The first you get simply for logging in.

The second is part of the new event. After hunting presents and defeating a certain number the Winter Horde spawned by the "You've been naughty!" messages, a Winter Lord giant monster will spawn. When he's defeated, he'll leave behind a larger-than-normal present. A timer will appear in your navigation bar and, when it counts down, you're allowed to click the present. Anyone who clicks it will be transported to Lord Winter's Realm, a "new" frozen zone for a battle with a new giant monster.

The new boss requires at least one full, well-designed team of very solidly-built characters. However, multiple teams can meet up in the zone to challenge the boss. The zone is only open for a short time, so you generally have to be pretty quick on the attack.

Pay attention to the cues that he gives during the battle, and be warned that he has an attack that can drop any toggles. Once he's defeated, everyone who participated in the battle will earn the badge.

(Note that there is also a hospital in the new event zone, so don't be afraid of respawning after you've been defeated!)

As an added bonus, defeating the Winter Horde in the new event zone gives you a chance at Candy Cane salvage drops.

Yes, you absolutely need an open slot on the destination server.

As Eric stated in the other thread, you'd be more than welcome to come hang out on Victory. We can also recommend a few good groups to join around the server, if you're looking.

Your character slot will not move with the character. It stays on the server it was initially unlocked on.
  15. Avatea, would you be so kind as to state (or have another red name do so) that you are not going to shut down any servers in the foreseeable future?

There's a small but vocal group of people who seem to view this as the only possible reason that NCSoft would allow for free server transfers. It'd be best to nip that chatter in the bud as quickly as possible.
  16. Free character renames aren't mentioned, but you can still get them...

Just make another character with the same name on a different server, transfer the character you want to rename over, and give him/her the new name.

They haven't been added to the main page, but patch notes for the last few live updates have been posted on the forums.
  18. It's been a while since I've looked up any info on influence <-> infamy trades, but if I recall correctly...

    1) Influence -> Infamy: Most traders charge a 10% fee on the trade. For every 1 million infamy you desire, you have to give them 1.1 million influence.

    2) Infamy -> Influence: Since there's more inf running around on the Hero side of things, most traders are willing to give a straight 1:1 trade.

Of course, this completely depends on who offers to make the trade and what they feel is an appropriate fee, if any. Some people view this as a way to put a little extra change in their pockets; while I don't agree with it myself, I certainly don't fault them for wanting compensation for their time.

Your best bet is to, as previously mentioned, arrange the trade in the Market forum. Marketeers may be shrewd, but I've never seen one actually go back on an agreement.

You could also contact someone via your server's global channel, though you have less guarantee that it's not somebody just out to steal your inf.

It's not that they "took them out." BaBs said the doves were actually added specifically as a joke Easter egg for that particular presentation. He also said (joked?) that they wouldn't be in the final version because then people would complain that they wanted to color the doves.

That said, a "flyingdoves" emote would make the people who want doves to appear when using their pistols happy, while not annoying the people who don't want them. Ohhhh BaaaaBs...

I was just in Bloody Bay this weekend grabbing Shivans for a TF. I had all my level 30 powers available.

I know it was (briefly) complained about by PVPers when Issue 16 was in beta, as many liked the fact that Siren's Call didn't allow access to Tier 9 secondary powers, but the discussion seemed to dry up pretty quickly.

It has been said that changing sides won't exclude you from the additional rewards, but it will take you longer to earn them.

It took me 35 months to get to level 50. I'm not worried about taking a little extra time to "power up."

We can most certainly forget about Easter. I make a habit to ignore it every year. And it would be unwise to make an event based off a day geared towards religious worship (hence the "winter holidays" event rather than any specific holiday)--you'd risk either alienating a part of the playerbase that doesn't celebrate said religious holiday, or insulting those with strong beliefs tied to the holiday.

As far as additional holidays that we "should" be celebrating in game that we're not already, I can think of only two: April Fool's Day and the 4th of July. (Since the game is set in the US, it makes contextual sense.)

I'd like to see the former deal more with our holiday gift-giving friend The Trickster and unravelling his clues and keeping him from playing pranks on the citizens of Paragon and the Rogue Isles. Pie in the Face temporary power (low mag, short duration stun) is a must.

The latter, 4th of July, be nothing more than a temporary "Fireworks" power or a fireworks emote that is only available for the first week of July. Perhaps have a chance at a "Fireworks Show" zone event that occurs randomly in standard zones during the night hours and spawns fireworks exploding in the air. No new missions, no badges, no game-affecting rewards. Just RP stuff. (And this is coming from a non-roleplayer.)

Other events, like Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, etc? Sure, they're important to our culture and for remembering the efforts of those who protect our country, but there's no real "celebration" associated with them. Any in-game event based on them would feel like a non sequitor at worst, or shoe-horned/contrived at best. If they want to schedule a Double XP or a Free Reactivation Weekend (or both together) around those dates, fantastic, that's a great idea! ... but no in-game events for them.

But here's the thing... the game doesn't need these events. As many have said before and will probably continue to say, the development team (which, while much larger than they were this time two years ago) is still pretty small when you consider the size of those from other games like WoW. Paragon Studios' budget is much smaller than WoW's, too. WoW could probably have a different event for every day of the year if they wanted to--they've probably got at least 365 people working development, and several million subscribers at $15 a month gives them enough funding to take over a good-sized country... really, you should be complaing to Blizzard that they don't have enough events given their resources!

Couple the fact that Paragon Studios have fewer developers and less funding with the fact that everybody in the company is working on the new expansion to have it ready to release in Spring 2010, and it's pretty apparent why this year's new holiday additions are comparitively small.

((FYI, the Deadly Apocalypse event for Halloween this year? That was designed by Warwitch, who normally designs zones. She had a little bit of free time, and was able to secure a little bit of help from the graphics and coding teams to set it up. If it wasn't for her, we would have just recycled last year's event.))

And finally, out of the 5+ years the game has been live, only for one year did they announce the start and end dates of all their events. Every other year, they've said, "Hey, there's going to be a holiday event for Halloween and around mid-December. We'll let you know when they're live."

***Super-ultra-omega-finally, it's not the developers' jobs to make announcements. If you have a beef about them not announcing things in a timely manner, take it up with the marketting department.
  25. Known issue.

And no, it will work as many times as there are card buffs--you just can't have more than one of the same buff at a time. You probably received the same buff twice, since it is random and there are only what, 10? 12? of them.
