    Which Kin?

Time says hi (at least with regards to Slow and Recharge). Trick Arrow does more -Slow in a huge area as well, and adds in some -damage and -resist.

End debuffage isn't all that impressive, and Kins isn't that great as it's single target. In fact that's Kins biggest problem, a lot of its debuffs (other than Fulcrum Shift) are single target.

Kinetics is one of the best buffing sets but with regards to total debuffage it's behind quite a few sets.

It will, assuming the Haunts and Umbral are nice and close to gain from it. Doggie has a habit of standing back for a few seconds to do his howl.

Another option is an Elec/Kin controller, Gremlins like to be in melee and Transference gels with your -End aura as a sapping tool. However your damage output will probably be less than Dark and certainly less than Fire and Plant. APPs will help with that but you'll still linger behind them.
  3. For a Controller the answer is nearly everything, but possibly with a nod towards debuffs over buffing sets.

It has a Fear and traditionally Fears & DoTs don't go together but to be honest the best part of the Fear is the -ToHit, so it's not that terrible. So Cold and Storm are still both very viable options (Storm especially for leveraging Tornado and Lightning Storm)

Mine is a Dark/Time is which is a brilliant combo, loads of control to throw out and a decent amount of both buffs and debuffs.

I can't actually think of a really bad combo to be honest. I suppose Emp and Forcefields? Dark doesn't have huge amounts of damage (just above Earth, Ice and Elec or thereabouts) so solo they'd be very boring.

For a Dominator again DoT will interfere with the Fear effect slightly but again it's not the end of the world. However Power Boost is a very handy thing to have indeed (PB affects the -ToHit). I suspect Dark/Ice would actually be a decent enough "bubbling under" choice actually : Power Boost -> Fear > Cone Immob -> Frost Breath and then jump in for the PBAOE stun and Ice Sword Circle.

Thorns sounds a bit interesting too for Cone synergy but the DoT and the lack of Power Boost would make me think again.

(Obviously Dark/Dark works for both as well but I tend to avoid matching primary and secondaries, I prefer mixing them up)
  4. My Dark/Sonic was great fun and really useful on teams. Especially if you focus-blasted through another damage dealer. She was brilliant when it came to AV fights as well, nice -regen from Howling and spamming the Heals (with Fluffy doing the same), nice amounts of -damage and lots and lots of -resist.

But Nemesis will make you cry and cry.

  6. I'm in a funny position here. I jumped from EU to US after years of being an EU player due to lack of teaming options. So I have a Subscription account which is on Tier 6 and a Premium which I never touch which is actually Tier 8.

So I'd love some option to gain access to the Tier 9 VIP sets, I've easily spent the money over the years but because it's across 2 different accounts due to EU atrophy I can't.

Some option to gain access to them would be brilliant.

To be honest my Warshade managed 1 mission of the kheld map.

My Widow/Fort stayed at Rogue for ages though. I quite liked the extra AOE mez and the ability to go anywhere. Plus I wanted the PPPs opened.

Oh, the thing you do at 10 in order to get your cossie slot and then completely ignore! I remember that.

I really enjoyed my Fort/Widow and my Shade, both were great fun, with the Shade being a bit better just because it was more versatile. Plus I really disliked the first 26 levels of Widowhood, couldn't get through it quick enough.

Now if some other QoL / revamp stuff comes down the pipeline as well that'd be excellent (TA or Ice Control. I'll accept either)

And Fears. And have that horrible Vengie Buff when their Lieuts die.

My Dark/Sonic defender and Illusion controllers hate Nemmies. My Dark/Time isn't looking forward to them either (she had a torrid time with some Devouring Earth yesterday as well, although I also had a grumpy baby on my lap at the time)

First off, I'd like to make a small case for the Entropic Chaos' proc in Jolting Chain. Much like the Tempest one, it's an oft-overlooked proc that really shines in a chain power. And the set itself gives some nifty bonuses for fairly cheap at WW. My controller loves it to pieces, but then again she spams JC more often than TG.
I'm pretty sure that Entropic Chaos Chance for Self-heal only works like a single target blast in Jolting. This mis due to the fact that it has a chance to heal the Caster, and you only count as the caster for the initial shot, subsequent chained shots are cast by invisible pseudopets summoned on top of the last target hit.

Unless it's been changed recently offensive & debuffing procs are the way to go on chains. The same applies for the Chance to Heal from the Sleep set in Static Field, it won't work. Since you're Dark anyway you don't really need a chance for self heal anyway, especially when you get your Dark/Dark-Defender-in-a-bottle (Fluffy)

I expect Dark Servant to help a lot on damage
Bad news here, DS does pretty meh damage in general. He's a debuffing and healing machine. He will gel excellently with the Gremlins though and go a long way to keeping them alive. Even on my Dark/Sonic defender with -res piling on Fluffy has poor damage.

(and yes I know the post I'm replying to was being funny as well)
I remember when Cossie changing had no cool-down and people would strobe in front of your eyes using a set of linked keybinds.

The popup tray is supposed to be for things like the temp powers in the Lambda facility. However, going to forms has it fill in with that form's powers - and worse yet, for this bug, with duplicates (something you can't do in other trays.) F'rinstance, my PB's Dwarf form has a tray going something like Smite - Strike - Stomp - Stomp - Smite - Heal - Taunt - Strike - Heal - Heal - taunt.... which means if I ran a Lambda, I'd have no room for the temp powers.

Plus, at this point, you can't *remove* those powers from that tray. ("real" temporary powers, of course, you can just delete.)

Nova had the two ST blasts, and two copies of the AOEs. And my humanform had two of the vet pets.

It's probably just "Khelds being weird" again, kind of like when adding inherent fitness goofed up Khelds and Doms for a bit on beta. They've got time to fix it.

    Edit:
So you can see how it looks as I go between forms (other khelds had other powers showign in here, but all had the various form powers)
The pop-up tray is nice for people getting into Khelds alright. I've the keybind system set up so makes little difference to me but as a general QoL thing for new Khelds this is great.

Now, who do we bribe in order to get some APPs/PPPs going (can we have Dominator ones please? I swear it wouldn't be broken)

    This makes me very happy
  15. Plant/Dark will of course be excellent, it's the byproduct of two excellent sets. But at the same time Seeds and things like Darkest Night and Fluffy are slightly at loggerheads (the confused foes will be hitting each other less and for less damage). Seeds + Tar Patch + Roots Spam is a nice combo though. Especially with Carrion Creepers on top of it. Creepers is simply an epic power, especially when slotted up and you're fighting a lot of enemies.

Fire/Dark has a lot of nice synergies going for it. Both Imps and Fluffy work best up close and personal and Fluffy will go a very long way towards keeping both the Imps and you alive when you're in close (as you'll want to be thanks to Hotfeet), as will the two buffs in Dark, especially if you also take the Earth APP for the defensive shield and Earths Embrace (plus you get two excellent melee friendly attacks). And then you've got the Flashfire & Howling Twilight combo for stacking or staggering stuns (as you see fit)

To my mind Fire/Dark fit together more nicely overall, but Plant is such a monster that Plant/Dark can't help but be good, but it's not especially synergistic.

My nod goes towards a Fire/Dark/Earth but as I said both will be pretty darn good.

Nice point on the use of Jolting Chain -- too many people on the forums have said that Jolting Chain is skippable, but I really like it. You are correct that it is the perfect thing to use to prevent attacks while waiting for the next Sleep pulse from Static Field.
My main beef with Jolting is that the animation is a teeny, tiny bit too long for my liking, but I played Elec as a Domi so there's lots of things fighting for that animation time. I love the rippling "popcorn" effect it does and its Proccability.

I don't skip it, but it goes a bit unloved on my Elec/NRG for that reason. Plus the Gremlins get it too so it becomes overkill slightly (its the one power I always feel people don't give credit to the Gremlins for having, it's nice soft control for a pet to have, unless you're fighting -2s)

    I'd prefer Melee/Support or Assault/Support myself.

Control/Pets would be hilarious. Can you imagine what it would be like a week or so after it was released? People running around with 7/8/9+ pets apiece!

It opens at 12, so you could pick it up at 14 if you wanted.

If you're planning to solo a lot it's worth it IMO, on teams it's very, very situational.

Thus, it takes two applications of an immob to immobilize the dead guys, instead of one for normal guys.
Well kinda. Controller AOE Immobs are mag 3 + 50% of an additional mag 1. Single Target are Mag 4 + 20% chance of +1.

So an AOE immob should stop half of them, the single target should immob stop them in one, if you're a Controller. The Single Target Domi one should stop them too, but obviously only one at a time (and a lot of Domis skip the single target immob)

Actually if you're solo and Gravity then Dimension Shifting half the spawn is worth a punt. Or using it as a bottle-neck.

I'm agreeing with you (kinda). It probably wasn't 1 reason, there were probably a few of things contributing to it.

The only one that really remains is "Ice melee isn't very good" but that can be fixed further (fix GiS)

I think it was probably the fact that Ice has -recharge powers (although the armour only has 1 is I remember rightly), Ice Melees mass of -recharge and control and the fact that Energy Melee was lacking a defensive partner.

The -recharge really shouldn't matter now anyway, it's easy to build Fury just by attacking as people have noted.

Plus if it is proliferated chances are Ice Melee would get a pass and Greater Ice Sword would be fixed / buffed.

    2. And controllers do function as defenders on teams. Unless you have AoE at low levels damage your damage output does not really matter much. So a defender's damage over a controller just is not very important on teams. Whereas a controller's controls are very useful and noticeable. Defender buff/debuff numbers are invisible, so you don't really see that a defender's thermal shield is better than a controller's.
Controllers do not get Fiery Rain.

They can get Ice Storm alright but it's Dominators who get Fiery Rain (or Rain of Fire to give it its proper name)

Defenders used to have higher HP, but it got reduced at some point (i4? i5?)

As for giving Defenders higher Control values I'm not sure I see the point. There's few Defender sets with oodles of control (Trick Arrow has 4 powers, after than a few have 2) and quite a few with none at all and I'd rank 3 of those with none as needing something in the way of buffs : Sonic, Force Field and maybe Empathy.

One thing I thought of when this last came up was the concept of Vigilance acting as a token for the triggering of a Feedback effect when some powers from their primary were used.

For example if a Defender casts a single target heal on someone then Feedback would cause a small Regen buff on the Defender. If they cast an ally shield they'd get 25% of the buff to themselves. If they cast some control they'd get a Break Free effect on themselves for a few seconds.

It'd be a bit of work though, ideally you'd want 4-5 powers per set with Feedback added to it, but it would mean you could tweak each set & power specifically for what it does in terms of how it self-buffs the Defender.

Because Feedback is based on the inherent you could make the changes to powers knowing that although Corruptors, Masterminds and Controllers also have it in their secondaries it would never trigger / proc.

But it would be a sizable bit of work to implement and balance.
  23. Mainly because the PvP game is completely different than the PvE game.

I don't mean in terms of difficulty (although that's true too, I just don't mind dying) but in terms of how powers actually work. The fact that you invariably need a totally different build to your PvE one just to be functional is just too much effort to be bothering with.

There was a Round Robin style PvP tournament on the EU side in i7 or so (June 2006) which was a lot of fun. I even remember getting up one Sunday morning to take part in a match, and having a very fun time pitting my TPing Illusion/Stormie against a Mind/FF controller across the breadth of one of the city block maps (he was trying to pin me in place with the repel bubble, I was frantically blinking around to get away whilest also avoid the scrappers and stalkers on the ground). On another indoor map I was buffed into God Mode by an experienced Emp PvPer and we absolutely creamed the opposing team

That was fun because most powers worked similiarly to how they did in PvE and most of us were complete PvP noobs anyway so no-one cared about who won or got bent out of shape.
