What actually happens anyway? And does it not happen all the time? I used to team a Trick Arrow user daily for a short while on my Thugs/Dark - he was unable to light his own slick so my Arsonist handled that for him, and the stacked burn patches were nice. But my pets never seemed to go bananas from the burning slick.
[/ QUOTE ]
If the pet / henchie is standing on the burning slick they'll scramble to get out of it (They''ll become Afraid).
For Thugs it wouldn't be too bad since you're mostly ranged (only the Bruiser would be really affected), my Grav/TA is basically unaffected too for the most part (although sometimes Singy is on the burning patch and does a cannonball through the spawn to get out knocking them everywhere).
With i12 (I think) the situation was improved a bit as now once the fire goes out pets will return into it (beforehand it took a few minutes for them to pluck up the courage to go back into the burnt area). -
[ QUOTE ]
By the way, I'm sure it's already written up somewhere, but I can't find.. How slotting PA works? What affects the summon itself and what affects pets? When procs are fired and on whom? (I know how it works with MMs but not sure about PA because of that "unbuffable" thing.)
[/ QUOTE ]
PA's can't take PROCs as far as I'm aware. Slot for Recharge (via the new Intensive Recharge Pets sets, although these might be currently bugged from what I've read elsewhere, or just Recharge IOs/SOs) this will reduce the time between casts, and 2-3 damage and 0-1 acc and that should be that. -
Storm, storm, storm, storm... Who need synergy when things are that much fun?
Although PAs & Freezing Rain were made for each other. Other than that it's mostly a case of dumping a load of pets and pseudo-pets on and around a spawn (or two) and just standing there laughing at the mess you've just made (or Confusing or Holding choice targets) -

Or, it might be because pets dont like Oil slick and tend to go crazy if they have to enter it. Tried a Ninja/TA and had no choice but to respec out of Oil slick, the by far best power in the set...
[/ QUOTE ]
This is a major problem and I'm amazed they haven't fixed it yet. It's not only masterminds pets that are affected by this, any pet runs a mile from a burning oil slick. My controller had a fun time with her imps scattered to the four (well ok, three) winds every time an oil slick appeared.
[/ QUOTE ]
Really, really annoying when you're playing the Trick Arrow doing the scattering of the imps too. Horrible knowing one of your best powers is going to cause all sorts of problems for team mates (since they tend to scatter in random directions). -
[ QUOTE ]
Sonic has the highest -res, interestingly, giving you 2 x -30% res debuffs.
Trick Arrow is second (and in some ways better due to more area) with a -20% small AoE and -20% huge AoE
I ppreciate COld has a -30% in sleet (which is effectively perma), and a -30% in Heat loss - but Heat loss has a Huge recharge, so most of the time TA and Sonic would come out ahead (but for AVs I guess you will be using those saved up long recharge powers).
[/ QUOTE ]
Trick Arrow? Eh?
Corrupters can't get it can they? And anyway the Controller (and thus corrupter) figure for the -Res debuffs is 15% a pop, not 20%. Together they just match Sleet / Freezing Rain / Tar Patch.
It's easier to stack Disruption Arrow in long fights than Sleet / FR though. I wish they'd let Acid Arrow self-stack too -

Well, the boards are completely down now. No amount of refreshing gets me in.
[/ QUOTE ]
The US Boards? The http://boards.cityofvillains.com/ubbthreads.php?Cat=0 address is working for me perfectly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Villains wasn't affected by the bug, I only got it intermittently on Heroes. Now Heroes is just broken.
[/ QUOTE ]
So? They're the same site with different skins (which I don't even see since I view boards here and there in plain text with no images), so just use the Villains URL. -

I've been getting conflicting info about it myself. I used to think it spawns a pseudopet per mob in the affected area and each pseudopet casts a periodic 5-target-max AoE hold around itself (so it takes a short while for them to cover the whole spawn). But recent discussions have made me doubt this.
[/ QUOTE ]
It casts a pseudopet which lasts 15 seconds every 10 seconds and each pseudopet casts a 5 target AOE hold every 6. That's based on the City of Data entry for it. Just click on the Geyser entries to see the details for the AOE hold power. -

Most Controller secondaries won't do Containment, or at least the more useful ones (like Forcefields AOE damage & Knockdown) don't.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah! I was wondering why Controller Repulsion Bomb and Force Bolt does more damage than Defender ones. Meh! Here goes my Mind/FF superior damage controller idea, right to the garbage.
Oh also ice bolt gets a weird containment damage. It's damage is better than fire and earth single target ranged attacks i guess. I get numbers like this; 100, 46, 58. No never checked on Combat tab.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're right. Looking at City of Data its Contained figure seems to be still using the pre-nerf value or something. -

A bit more OT: concerning the dark blast set for blasters; take out dark pit and add dark obliteration in its stead and replace life drain with an aim power of sorts
[/ QUOTE ]Replace Dark Pit with Dark Obliteration, give Life Drain the Siphon Life treatment and replace Tenebrous Tentacles with Aim.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're on a quest to make every Siphon Life-alike get the damage boost, aren't you -
[ QUOTE ]
All primay and secondary powers except pet (and I think pseudo pets) should benifit from containment. Epics haven't for a couple of years and I don't believe ancilliary or inherrents do either. Temps don't.
[/ QUOTE ]
All Epics DO get containment damage and always have. Even Ice Storm, as it was changed during the Great Epics Nerf (when Epic damage was lowered specifically because they were doing Containment damage too).
In fact with the addition of Frost Breath to Ice it could easily be the most damaging AOE Epic now (but maybe a bit slow to drop it all since Ice Storm is DoT).
Most Controller secondaries won't do Containment, or at least the more useful ones (like Forcefields AOE damage & Knockdown) don't.
All pets don't and most pseudo pets don't (Ice Storm being the only one I can think of which does) -

With dual builds I'd still consider three plenty. There was a time when we had to do with only 3 respecs. And there was no way to get more aside from freespecs and I think people did just fine.
Usually I dont even have to use respecs. Build 1 for leveling up and Build 2 for IOs. It's great!
[/ QUOTE ]
3? Just 3??
Most of my characters go through 3 respecs by level 32.
My WS is currently on 5 or 6 with another pending (why did I pick Stygian Return? Waste of time).
Mids can't really give you a good idea of how certain power combos or IO set-ups will actually work (for example adding a PROC to Trick Arrows Ice Arrow seemed like a bright idea, until I actually tried it ingame. Urrgh)
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed. Also maybe you want to swap between epics to see which one you prefer most. I lost the counts of respecs i used on Psy, and i think i want one more
I slotted proc in Dominate but didn't see any effect yet, +2 mag hold sounded very cool but that Cimerorans still kicking me in some places too hard.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was dimmer than that, I added a Damage proc to Ice Arrow. USELESS!!!
This was when I was in my PROC addiction phase, which I've weaned myself off now, mostly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well... erm... I changed that +2 hold with Damage Proc. Both have same usefulness i have to admit.
I have Damage Proc on Mass Confuse, if i can damage one mob i count myself lucky.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem with Ice Arrow vs the Controller holds was it was a 3 second animating hold with a 20 second recharge. So spamming it was impossible.
It's worth proccing the Controller single target holds if you've got the slot for it I reckon, especially with the +2 mag one. -

either play the Markets game (which is next to impossible since the damn things are so rare) or pay for the privilage.
Thank you NCSoft. You are benevolent beyond words.
[/ QUOTE ]wait you can buy respecs with real money now? o_O how?
It'd be cool if they made the veteran reward SG teleporter, powers and combat pets and normal pets buyable, that would level the playing field more too with the latter (rather than just "who's been giving us lots of money (over months))
[/ QUOTE ]
Meh, the normal pets suck. I've had mine out about twice altogether. And the little clockwork one always freaks me out : "Aaaah. Psi Clockwork ambush!!! Oh wait". Almost as frightening as the WS I was teamed with during the week who's name and cossie was almost identical to "Void Stalker".
You can buy them in the ingame store at the Log on or Character selection screen I think. -

With dual builds, I think respec's are more necessary now than they ever were. And with the rarity of respec recipes (I've never encountered a SINGLE one in all my gametime!) it's doubtful I'll ever have one to hand if I need it.

But it's Ok. NCSoft saved us. Rather than making us run the last respec mission again so we could get more Respecs they kindly let us either play the Markets game (which is next to impossible since the damn things are so rare) or pay for the privilage.

Bonfire doesn't do that much damage even if you were spamming Fire Cages to keep something in it (for the -knockback).
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats what I have read in a few places, is mids wrong on the damage? Or do most people just not keep the mobs in it very long since it is a long DoT?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure, but I remember an old post from Animal Mutha who said it didn't do nearly as much damage as he'd hoped. I had it for a bit but never tried to do anything other than use it to pin things against walls or block off corridors.
It's such a popular set and combo I'd be surprised if people didn't pick up on it if it do reasonable damage, even just in AV fights or whatever.
Still, no harm trying it out, that's what Respecs are for -
Ring of Fire is an Immob, not a hold. Char is by far the stronger of the two, but Ring of Fire does do slightly more damage. It can be useful to pick up before you get Fire Imps for some single target damage, but I found Air Superority did that for me pretty well.
Other than Cinders > Char (or Char > Char) Fire on it's own doesn't have a way to mez a boss. Flashfires stun won't stack with any other Fire controls (but its an excellent power).
Bonfire doesn't do that much damage even if you were spamming Fire Cages to keep something in it (for the -knockback). Basically its just a placeable Knockback patch and it's quite situational. I'm not sure it would get the Fulc damage bonus either (some pets & pseudo-pets get the casters Damage bonus, others don't). I know it pales in comparison to say the Fire Cage > Tornado > Spam Cages blender that Fire(Earth/Ice/Plant)/Stormies can do.

a hero with dark powers......and when are we gonna ask for light basts for domminators?
really, not to nickpick but, we are hero's ppl, and hero's are not the kind of guy's/girl's to use dark blasts.
[/ QUOTE ]
My Warshade thinks you're talking nonsense too. Not only does she fire blasts of dark energy she also uses their defeated corpses as bombs, End top-ups and rips pets from them.
All in the name of good of course -
Nope.
Does Containment for my Grav/TA anyway, or at least used to and I haven't heard or seen anything to state it had been changed. -

Damage is not going to break the taunt effect. Although it does always help if the team gives the tank a few seconds to group the foes before attacking.

Majority of PuGs; chance of this happening?
That might as well be a rhetorical questionits like asking them not to kill the Rad anchors...
[/ QUOTE ]
Pfffft.
Life is frequently more interesting if you ignore Tank requests like "wait for a sec". Death is too. -
[ QUOTE ]
You should easily rival most defenders for ST damage assuming you've slotted your /NRG powers. In AoE damage you're going to suck of course, but a set like /fire would do well in that.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd consider Tanks and Defenders to be, in general, roughly the same in their damage output. Obviously there'll be exceptions either way.
