    And WoW.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Aye but I've never seen anyone actually use the WoW one. Weird how different MMOs with the same tools end up being used differently (or ignored)

The WAR one is used and pretty handy though.
  2. City of Data is your friend.

    http://coh.redtomax.com/data/powers/...rgy_Absorption

In the listings it has an Entities autohit : Foe entry.

So I'd say it's autohit. Also the description says "It fails if no foes are in range" which would suggest an autohit (not that I'd believe just the ingame Power descriptions).

As far as I can tell (from memory) - The mole machines/generators are more like destroyable objects - i.e. when/if destroyed they appear as destroyed versions of themselves and don't de-spawn as mobs would.

Even if you take the destructable element out I think the chassis of the generator trucks and the surrounds of the mole machines will possibly be just background - which could leave the map looking decidely odd without the targettable portions!

But... I thought my non-ninja edit was only in response to your semi-ninja edit (only marked by the 'Edited by' comment at the bottom of the post). Either that or I was blind to the StM/Johnny Sonata comment/question when I composed my initial reply!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Damn. Found out! Stupid forums ruining my stealth attacks *sulks*

And there's a fairground in St Martial? That goes onto my list too so.

I'd like the Eden Map & Sewer Trial map too, just so I could see em for once (my one attempt at leading an Eden Trial was defeated before it began thanks to the level bug starting it).

Ooh, a Striga instance map (the creepy bog bits) would be nice too. And a Dark Astoria instance too. And a pony!

Hall of fame = 1000+ ratings with an avarage rating of 5 (rounded to the nearest whole number, so actually 4.5).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are you sure about that? The only quote I've seen said they would be rounding up, which would suggest any score averaging >4 would be rounded to 5. A little more forgiving, but probably still not resulting in vast numbers of HoF arcs. From Ex Libris:
    [ QUOTE ]

The Hall of Fame is where the best player rated content goes. To get to this rank you need to have over a 1000 votes with an average of 5 stars (we round up). Getting into the Hall of Fame changes your standing in the mission browser, moving it further up the queue.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe that's been clarified or corrected in something I've missed, though...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Excellent point, it does sound that they are talking about applying a ceiling type function to the ratings rather than rounding off.

the Cap Au one from the "Protect the Transmitter" RWZ mission

    [/ QUOTE ]
Whilst the original may be in there, (from memory) I'd imagine it could be worth doing another copy without some of the debris from machines surfacing.

TBH that is the sort of map that I can easily imagine being unavailable as it may be set up specially with the machines/generators.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Aren't they just glowies / objectives though, I thought they'd be stripped out.

There's a vague itching memory at the back of my head (it's probably a flea Baldrick) that the same map is used in another mish too, a non-RWZ one. Not sure what though.

I'd also love if they gave us some instance areas to play with, like the Wolf's Throat + Council Base from Striga (Sneak into Council base, anyone?)

    [/ QUOTE ]

    /signed

It would be nice to have some outdoor instance areas from the Rogue Isles not just Paragon. The PTS system from CAP, Pyramid Area from St Martial, Docklands area from Sharkhead and the area in Grandville that features in the last mission of the STF. I would love to see these

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yep, Safeguard / Mayhem style maps for Rogue Island zones would be on my wishlist too.

I'd imagine that the ones currently ingame such as the Cap Au one from the "Protect the Transmitter" RWZ mission, the Sharkshead Industrial one from the RWZ destroy the bombs (and the villains Destroy the Ring mish) and the Grandville one you mentioned should be there but I don't know if there are currently instance maps for bits of Mercy, Port Oakes, Nerva and St Martial ingame (does one of the Johnny Sontana missions have an instance of St Martial in it?).
  7. For AVs I'd say Shout. You'll have a perma debuff of something like 100%+ once you get going (-their resistance resistances since Sleet doesn't have the non-resistable flag).

(Edited because I didn't realise Heat Loss does -Resist too. That's lovely!)
  8. And with all the new User Created missions will we have a glut of this happening

    MA Question

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Just had a thought as well, with the nice "save cossie" feature and the MA coming up it might be nice to have a respository of peoples fav cossies for others to download and use in the MA for their arcs.

Of course half the fun of CoH is messing around the cossie editor but if one was happy for people to use their mains or alts 'fairly' (ie not saying things like "I'm a stupid-head" as their AV dialog) it could be useful.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To expand on that, I'm hoping that the custom critter creator lets us save the entire critter spec (it would make sense to allow this!). Then we could set up a "Critter Repository" for custom mobs we create that others might want to use! Hell, people could make entire custom villain/hero groups for others to populate their missions with!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Oooh, good idea too FFM.

Could become another node of the Titan Network.

*Edit : Could one set up a Wiki devoted to Mission Architect resources and allow people to upload / download sets off that (rather than someone having to create a bespoke site for it)?
  10. Good article. But this is just plain wrong :
    [ QUOTE ]
City of Heroes missions have always had a random element to them. Each time you play through, the scenario is slightly different.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Quite the opposite really, a lot of the time I can tell you exactly where a spawn will appear on a map / tile even if I've never played that specific mish before. It's one of my own personal dislikes about the rigidity of the current map / tile system.

But so far the interface itself seems pretty good from what I've read there. Excellent!

    [ QUOTE ]

Your scrapper has 50 tickets from running MA missions. These are untradeable. Another player plays you arc and your account gets awarded 5 more tickets. You can then allocate the tickets to your characters as you see fit. If your scrapper is the only char you care about for example, you allocate them all to him and now your scrapper has 55 untradeable tickets.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yep, saw Posi said this last night. It's at least consistant with merits I suppose but I don't like that system of no sharing between alts myself (for everything, I hate all the barriers and jumping through hoops we've to do to share anything ingame between alts)

  13. Don't forget the Pet Recharge sets are still currently bugged too (they don't work at all, at least the Acc and Damage aspects don't, the set bonuses may), so don't start slotting them straight away or you'll neuter your pets (poor Fluffies) until it gets fixed.

Not sure if this has affected the current price of them, you might get them now and wait for them to be fixed as the price might go up once people read Patch Notes indicating they are now working properly.
  14. Can't you get both? Shout is nice in a chain after the first two and the idea of Sleet > Howl > Nuke sounds rather nice too.

If I had to choose I'd probably go for Shout overall but I'd be pining for the nuke for fun value.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nice idea. Don't think I've ever seen anyone do it though.

Plus since the /sea box is limited to 50 results it can often trim out half or more of people in your range, even if you filter to a 10 level range (so you won't see such leaders sometimes even if they did exist)
  16. [ QUOTE ]

It seems quite simple to me. If you don't like herding and herding teams then don't stay in one. If you don't like non-herding teams then find a herding one. Plenty room for all and plenty other people to team with. But to say very matter of factly that herding is rubbish, useless, and isn't fun is just plain ignorance. To be able to effectively herd when necessary is a very useful string to any tank's bow and if the tank feels this is the way for him to be most effective at his roll, comfortable, and, more importantly, enjoy it the most, then fair play to him, he is a herding tank and there is absoluterly nothing wrong with that at all. As you say, it is about fun, and that includes that of the tank.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree with this, so I usually vote with my feet.

That doesn't mean my opinion (and everything here is purely my own opinion) that herding isn't fun is pure ignorance in any way. I wouldn't accuse anyone who is a proponent of herding to be ignorant either, we just have differing opinions on what we find fun.

    [ QUOTE ]
To be able to effectively herd when necessary is a very useful string to any tank's bow

    [/ QUOTE ]
Again I agree with this too, but my opinion about when it's necessary will obviously differ from others.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
    Thanks, I missed that one.

Interesting that it is on a par mission basis rather than a per arc basis, and it appears that you don't select the mission level: it it determined by the mobs you choose.

He doesn't say what happens if mob A is 1-20 and mob B is 40-50.

And I think the BP is 20-30 and 40-45.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Aren't the 40-45 BP just in a Portal mish like the Family? IE they're more "rescaled 20-30s" rather than true 40-45s? They've no new powers or anything.

I think the high level snakes on the other hand get new powers in the high levels.

    Standoff:
    [ QUOTE ]
On the other hand, it looks like MA Tickets are redeemed at toon rather than account level, which undermines things a bit.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    PRAF:
    [ QUOTE ]

The unlocks that are purchased with MA tickets are account wide.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Everything I've read so far seems (to me) to show MA tickets as being account level. There's been talk the (MA-ticket) purchasable add-on packs being account wide and indeed how they need to be as some things are mutually exclusive for any one character to earn.

My impression is that about the only things that individual characters do are:
    * be the character to actually play a MA mission
    * (Possibly) be the character at the AE building designing/submitting a mission (which is submitted by the account, but I suppose that a character may need to be involved in the submission process)
    * (Possibly) be required to visit a MA-ticket vendor to redeem tickets

True it's been said that you could play your entire career 1-50 in MA missions and not be any worse off than someone playing normal missions, which seems to imply that salvage, enhancements and recipes will be available to buy from MA-ticket vendors as well. These, obviously, would be applied to a single character - but I can't see anything to worry about with that.

    Am I missing a downside?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope, it's just a bit curious. One could have a level 50 farm-happy toon repeating suitable MA missions to earn MA Ticket drops to feed his brood of hungry alts, a system the Devs said last week they were against for Merit rewards.

Unless I'm missing something (which is rather likely. Needs more caffine)
  19. A friend of mine mentioned it to me and my girlfriend (now fiancee) had just left for a 6 month around-the-world trip so I figured I had time on my hands so I bought it. This was about 2 months after the EU release.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]

And you've to get there in a manner like old school Hollows mission runs, darting between wandering mobs, hoping they don't notice you. Not my defination of "easy walking"

More recent mission arcs in CoH like Faultine and the RWZ tend to be more self contained (with the exception of that stupid Cimmoria mission where I was sent to Founders to get beaten up by Ghost Widow, although the Ouro portal got me there fairly quickly).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Plus, a lone hero can take on 3 or 4 even con minions without a problem... What exactly is going to happen to you if you try THAT in WoW, in the lower levels at least?

A trip to the cemetery is what, followed by another long walk...

    [/ QUOTE ]

In fairness 3 CoX minions is about equal to a single WoW mob in terms of what the game has designed you to be able to handle.

That said I've found it very easy in WoW to have a train of 3 or 4 (or in CoH terms 9-12) mobs chasing me.

Hence my old skool Hollows analogy.
  21. Hmmm. Interesting quote from Posi about the MA Ticket Rewards :

    [ QUOTE ]

    [ QUOTE ]
I thought of a question! With so many account wide unlockables in the MA, are the tickets going to be account wide/tradable? If some of the more awesome unlockables are pricey, it might be difficult for someone who doesn't stick to one alt to unlock them.

    [/ QUOTE ]
When people play your arcs, tickets earned that way go into a pool.

You can then claim tickets out of that pool onto any character.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, unlike Merits which I was giving out about last week, it seems the Devs like the idea of MA Tickets being shared across alts.

You mean the game where almost* all the quests you get in a given area are within easy walking distance from the quest giver? That game?

You neglected to mention that, unless you actually know the map in WoW fairly well, you could spend half an hour even finding where the quest location IS without plugins like QuestHelper!

It is a shame that it is a bit late as Champions Onlinecomes out the same month.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Huh? Champions is set for June release. While Issue 14 will come either in March or very early april.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I clearly remember them saying it would come on the shelves. Will do my best finding that post again.

If CO comes out later.. that can only be good. I read they are trying for the same month. But release dates on MMMO's are always speculation. We will see.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually CO have just adjusted their release schedule from the fairly concrete June to the rather more vague (but, oddly, seemingly sooner) Spring instead.

Since Spring ends mid-June anyway I'm not sure what this means really.

    WoW copies CoX?

    [ QUOTE ]

Also... don't play alone; I was lucky to play with friends over in WoW land - I only ever solo'd when I wanted to, it makes a huge difference, same with WAR now.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yep, I did have a blast before doing one of the instances (whatever they're called, the one in the Orc city) with a 5 man team and I could see it being great fun in a regular team.

    [ QUOTE ]

I agree with Jawdropper, it's perfectly possible to like different games for different reasons, for example I spent a lot of time in WoW and now WAR, wishing there was sidekick system. (There is one in WAR..but, and you really have to admire the sheer stupidity of their marketing department for this, it's not a widespread feature - its a marketing reward unlock.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

My issue with WAR was mainly the sucky framerate on my laptop (curses Sony and NVidia for not regularly releasing Laptop Driver updates) and a lot of the classes didn't really appeal to me, plus the server population took a nose-dive after the 1st month. And again the class I ended up wanting to play seemed a bit gimped (Magus. I've a thing for summoning things to distract the enemies while I DoT them to death). I might retry it now there's a new patch out and see if it's any better. Socially it is better than WoW, much easier to join a random PuG.
