Elevens Big Tweaking Project - The Warshade

So recently I got a fair few toons of mine to Level 50. Over the week of doing that though there were plenty of times playing were I thought that the toon I was on with at the time could be performing a lot better or in some cases was crashing and burning a lot, meaning that I had obviously screwed up the build.

So since most of my toons are at 50 now, or at least close to 50 I felt like spending some time now reviewing them all and getting advice off much better character builders out there than clearly I am capable of. Hey, I hold my hands up and admit that I am just not a numbers person and get agitated when trying to squeeze numbers out of Mids’ Designer and end up hashing the job up. Guess that’s just my mind set. I save my logic and intelligence for work. At home on the game, like a typical Scrapper, I just want to dive in and hit stuff, really hard!

Another problem I seem to have is making toons based on time consuming, deep thought out RP concepts that while look good for said concept, are horribly inefficient for PvE action.

Thus I am making a number of posts in the relevant sections of the board to get as much advice on all my toons as people are willing to give so I can learn from any obvious mistakes I have made in my builds as well as getting help from moving on from generic IO’s to IO sets which I still can’t seem to get my head around as far as to which ones to get for perks I might be after.

With all my builds, keep in mind that as I have allured to I only tend to PvE although I can’t rule out the odd bit of PvP should an RP situation call for it but otherwise not really that important to think about. I tend to want to team as equally as I sometimes want to solo so I tend to try to build toons that are suited for both. Finally imagine that Inf and Merits are no object to me. At the time of writing that is not the case for most of my toons, but I reckon I can get involved in enough stuff over a time period to earn what’s needed for a potentially expensive build.

Anyway, onto the current builds!

Adam Dennison – Warshade

The n00ber of pWnz! Even before the recent buffs, this guy was creating piles of defeated enemies and getting cries from the rest of the team saying “Oi! Save some for us will you!”

Of course he is better suited for large team play. I can only solo him on the second level of difficulty. Might be that with the recent buffs and a bit of tweaking I could take on Rugged but not given the Warshade much of a run around since coming back to the game regular.

Must be said though that I have never had to do a respect for the toon. Much research and planning was put in all that time ago when he was first made as I fortunately understood before making him that building Kheldians were complex and needed patience. As a result he turned out wonderfully vicious at the higher levels.

However the build is still worth reviewing anyway. Since I can’t get my head around IO sets on normal toons, I have no chance on a complex Warshade build! I am almost certain that I will be told that the Presence Pool powers can be dropped. I picked them purely because of concept as I had done for Scrapper Eleven and the Evil Stalker version of Eleven. Both of them have had the powers dropped. In the case of Eleven it was simply because of lack of space for everything else the build needed. For the Stalker Eleven, I was convinced that they powers were useless and I should replace with better ones from my secondary power pool.

I don’t think I have used the powers much outside of soloing anyway as I have obliterated enemies with my main powers usually. So if you are going to suggest they be dropped for something else, I will happy agree, unless they are really helpful for a Warshade.

Here is the current build.

Warshades are fairly complex to slot well, and I'm still undecided whether one should be frankenslotted to conserve slots, or aim for global recharge set bonuses for maximum efficiency...

Having said that, a quick tip for soloing: Invite fillers when you can. Warshades actually solo better when the spawns are team-sized because of how their self-buffs work.

I solo my own Warshade on Unyielding. I'm mostly in Dwarf Form when soloing - I've had horrible Endurance issues in Dwarf before I frankenslotted Drain and Mire though, how are you doing for endurance?

In case they're helpful, here's my slotting for Black Dwarf Drain and Black Dwarf Mire:

Black Dwarf Drain:
2 Nucleous Exposures
2 Golgi Exposures
1 Doctored Wounds Heal/Rech
1 Hecatomb Dam/Rech

Black Dwarf Mire:
Armageddon Acc/Dam/Rech
Obliteration Acc/Dam/End/Rech
Obliteration Acc/Dam/Rech
Scirocco's Dervish Acc/Dam/End
Multi-Strike Acc/Dam/End
Multi-Strike Dam/End/Rech

I stuck a Performance Shifter PROC into an extra Dwarf Slot last night, works very well.

Also have 2 Resistance & 1 Resistance/End Reduction into the form as well. That should stave off most of my End woes.

I'm now debating a second slot in Nova form for either another Perf Shifter PROC or maybe just an End Mod/End Reduction although I've fewer problems with End in nova form (since if I'm in Nova form then I'm probably mowing down Minions which can be harvested for End).

You should get as many Damage Resist/Recharge IOs as possible into Eclipse (I ignore set bonuses for the most part for it). You want that sucker maxxed out.

Although I am loathe to post my actual build I can give a few tips from my own point of view, but be aware Warshades are very much 'each to their own' as far as opinions go.

1 - Aim for +recharge as often as possible until you have perma-hasten, this automatically gives you perma-eclipse (By over 10 seconds!). Yes you can perma eclipse and leave it as that but perma-hasten makes the nova attack chain ST-AoE-AoE-ST-AoE-AoE-repeat and gives dwarf an attack chain of just the two main attacks without having to waste end on the heal as an attack.

2 - Think how you play, do you use Sunless mire as often as it is up? I once had a build with it perma, but since I use Nova 90% of the time I found it inefficient and took slots out of it. Right now it is 3 slotted and that is more than enough.

3 - Do you use the human attacks at all? If not (And I don't as they are much worse than nova or dwarf attacks) then don't even given them a single slot. Put all your early slots into the immob (The name escapes me) and 5 slot that bad boy with the purple immob set for the 10% global recharge.

4 - Pick up as many pool powers as you can that only need the basic slot so that you have slots for your really good powers. IE: Pick the edicine pool for the rez (On my 2nd heal badge just from rezzing so far), the concealment pool for the LoTG +recharges it can hold and superspeed which follows on from Hasten as it is handy, I also have combat jumping for another LoTG and SJ too to give me all the travel powers!

5 - Slot Nova form with only 1 or 2 slots as the end mods will work out better and end reducers in the attacks. The tohit buffs won't be needed because as a byproduct of +recharge you will get about 50-90% global accuracy anyway.

6 - If you Dwarf a lot slot heavily for endrdx in the attacks and particularly Mire as they are very end heavy.

7 - Get a -KB IO somewhere (Got mine in Absorbtion instead of the RES IO)

8 - Get a -slow IO in one of the free travel powers.

When I get home I will post some more tips on slotting of specific powers to get +recharge.

Finally I know some people also go for +Ranged Def, but with perma eclipse I honestly don't think it is worth the sacrifice in either recharge or attack power.

Sorry I forgot this last night as I got distracted, but here are my other tips for +recharge:

Gravimetric Snare -- Purple set for 10% +Recharge. Fairly expensive and I never use the power but still ...
Hasten -- Standard 3 recharge IO's here
Shadow Cloak -- LoTG 7.5% +recharge, anything else is pretty wasted
Gravity Well -- The Basilisk's Gaze set is good because you get 7.5% (I think) +recharge from just 4 slots. Alternatively you could use the purple set for 10%, but would have to drop one of the other 5 purple sets and I find this most efficient (Though not necessarily cost effective)
Gravitic Emanation -- Purple stun set goes nicely here for 10% more lovely +recharge
Combat Jumping -- LoTG 7.5% +recharge
Dark Extraction -- You get 7.5% +recharge from only 4 of the new Expedient Reinforcement set so thats good here
Grant Invisibility -- LoTG 7.5% +recharge
Invisibility -- LoTG 7.5% +recharge
------------
Dark Nova Bolt -- I put the 5 none proc Decimations in here for I think 5%
Dark Nova Blast -- Apocalypse is 10% +recharge for 5 slots
Dark Nova Emanation -- Ragnarok is another 10% +recharge from 5 slots
Dark Nova Detonation -- Positron's Blast gives 6.25% +recharge on the 5th slot too
------------
Black Dwarf Smite -- Hecatomb is another 10% recharge from 5 slots
Black Dwarf Drain -- Doctored Wounds for another 5%
Black Dwarf Antagonize -- Perfect Zinger for I think 6.25%

For my actual build I didn't slot the Black Dwarf Drain or Antagonise for recharge (And I think I haven't slotted Gravity Well for recharge either) as I already had enough at that point.

But even if you do this it still leaves enough slots to 4-6 slot the other really important powers.

Looking at the advice here and at some other boards its clear the consensus is +Recharge is gold for Warshades.

As a result, I have come up with this plan.

What do you think?

Your Black Dwarf Mire is horribly underslotted, dude. I daresay Sunless Mire is, too - you do realize they need accuracy to hit things, yes? Ans Black Dwarf Mire is more of an attack than a buff, these days, so I would (and did) slot damage, acc, endredux and recharge in it.

Posted

Yeah I agree with Col_Blitzkreiger, Black Dwarf Mire is an excellent PBAoE attack, just treat the buff as a bonus. I have mine 6 slotted frankenslotting for dam/acc/rech/endrdx (With the armageddon proc), it can become a ~200 damage PBAoE every 5 seconds!

Also the Aegis - Psionic/Status Resistance is a bit useless if you ask me, the Psi res is very small and the status res won't get noticed either.

As for the chance for +recharge I thought of using them but found they almost never went off, I don't think it is stackable and due to some strange way they work actually only works out at giving you the buff 5% of the time and even then not for long. You would be better served with the Posi proc in Dark Nova Emination and a normal recharge IO in Dark Nova Detonation.

The rest looks ok but I haven't got mids at work to check the bonus' out.

Don't forget the Pet Recharge sets are still currently bugged too (they don't work at all, at least the Acc and Damage aspects don't, the set bonuses may), so don't start slotting them straight away or you'll neuter your pets (poor Fluffies) until it gets fixed.

Not sure if this has affected the current price of them, you might get them now and wait for them to be fixed as the price might go up once people read Patch Notes indicating they are now working properly.

Thus proving how much I really epic fail at builds!

All I can say was that it was mostly based on a build on the US boards and was said that some of the low slotting got made up by the extreme global power recharge from the sets.

But now I can see what everyone here is saying.

And I am now doing my head in trying to come up with something else. Rather ironic for someone like mw that claims he is simply a pick up and smash to peices person.

The trick I do when using mids is rather than start at level 1 and pick powers each level I pick the key powers first and get them slotted, then the good powers and slot them, then the fillers etc.

It is a good way to start a build and although you won't find the best build right away it gives you a good foundation to build on. The key to this (And to Kheldians in general) is knowing which powers to sacrifice and which are must haves.

In this case pick nova, dwarf, mire, eclipse, stygian, grav emination decide what slots you want to stick in them and the form powers (aiming for the +recharge bonus') and once you have these key powers slotted as you want start picking some of the other powers. Eventually you will run out of slots and have 4/5 powers left that can be taken up with things that dont need slotting like travel powers/medicine pool etc.

From there you can play around with moving the level at which powers are picked and might have a few slots floating around that you can play with, but should be pretty sorted.

TBh, the first build, apart from some slotting issues, wasnt that bad. Hint, unless it makes a LARGE difference, dont three slot stuff. Two slots are good. For example, stick two slots in self rez, and add recharge. Takes a decent shunk off the recahrge time.

This build looks beasty, i wish i could contribute but the only attempy i ever made at a WS ended up broken when u hit 50. I don't have the inf to respec it.

Is there gonna be an improved version of eleven's 2nd build in here? it looks good enough to me for combat use, but whatever's best x)
