Quote:I do actually have a Neo clone, but I've had him for years now. And the whole point of the character is that he's a deluded idiot who thinks he's The One (actually he's an out-of-work actor who shorted out his brain trying to follow the plot of a particularly tricky film script). And thus Johnny Moronic was born (Thugs/Traps MM).Seeing a bunch of Neo clones was my biggest fear about dual pistols going live. However was very surprised with the variety that players have come up with. Cowboys seem to be the #1 theme that I saw most during my play time. For me, costume styles I went with something that was a mix of the Phantom and DC comic's Vigilante.

Quote:For Focus you have to bear the animation in mind again. Compared to Impale it's damage per activation time is nearly 50% higher thanks to the fact it's lightning quick to animate.Didnt think of it that way, good point. I think maybe i was just being a bit short sighted and comparing eviscerate to golden dragonfly but of course that isnt an entire set.
That and the ranged attacks being so low damage, i didnt factor in the fact shockwave was an aoe i was just thinking about raw damage, which again makes me think ive been playing the scrapper wrong from the beginning.
In fact with the exceptions of Spin and Eviscerate this holds for most of the Claws set. It does lower orange numbers usually, but it can do them mighty quickly. -
Quote:One thing to note with Eviscerate is that it's actually a fairly poor single target attack thanks to the long animation.Without logging in to check i couldnt tell you my build, but i was pretty sure i had spin, not sure it was 6 slotted though. I actually quite like the animation for eviscerate, thats the main reason i chose the set in the first place lol.
But it's not a single-target attack, it's a wee cone. You need to hit 2+ enemies with it for it to start to shine IMO. If you don't like doing the adjustments needed to line it up to do so then it's probably worth skipping for another single target attack.
Also redraw is a bit of a pain (like any weapon set really) so minimising the amount of redraw you do helps a lot. -
Analysis of Single Damage chains by Bill
That's SOs only. And Claws has great AOE too, one of the top Scrapper AOE powers, a hard hitting melee cone and Shockwave which is fairly average but comes on top of Spin and Eviserate. -
Claws tears things up. Unless you're talking about the comparison between now and when it had the older, slower animations? I know they got revamped at some point.
Claws isn't useless, not on a Scrapper or a Brute in my experience. -
Quote:I've just got off Virtue and easily got a team just by sticking the LFT flag on and broadcasting. This afternoon at 5 GMT was a bit quiet, or hard to get a team with anyway (there were still 300+ people on) but no issues in the evenings at all so far.I started on the US servers and i've been back for a stint recently. I'm well aware of what the servers are like.
I've never, ever, ever, ever, ever had trouble teaming on Freedom. No matter what toon or level, there's always a space for me.
And if there wasn't, there's 600 people to choose from when i start building my own team. 600 > 130.
And as Rent says you can easily make one with that selection of people available to you. There's no real comparison to the Scrapper I was playing on Union last week who's never been on a team.
Mind you a LFM flag for teams or team leaders could go a long way to making teams easier to find on the smaller servers. -

Nice guide. I especially liked the info about Carrion Creepers. A very good description of what I can expect when I finally get it. The ingame description is rather vague. Great PROC advise too (not helping my PROC addiction problems though).
Just one little thing, with Vines if you take it I always find the best slotting for AOE Holds is frankenslotting 3 or 4 Acc/Hold/Recharge IOs to maximise its enhancement values.
My lowbie Plant/Emp went with the single target immob to start with, excess aggro is bad for a lowbie empath, but after seeing that the AOE does double damage to usual AOE immobs I'll be respeccing to that sometime in the 20s. -
Made the jump last night, reactivating my US account and disabling the EU one.
Losing all my boosters and Vet rewards sucks. But last night in Kings felt like proper City of Heroes again rather than the City of Ghosts my last 4 characters (3 of them were red-side granted) had on Union.
Had a great time keeping 5 DP Blasters alive with the Plant/Empathy who had been inactive for 600 days. Pity Patrol XP stops after 10 bubbles of XP though. I'd be sorted all the way to 50 otherwise. -
I reactivated my US Account and disabled the EU one and spent an enjoyable evening keeping all those gun-toting blasters alive on Virtue with my Plant/Empathy controller.
5 Blasters, 1 Defender and a Tank and me who fitted in by using our fingers as guns and going pew-pew-pew. I don't think I've ever seen so many blasters in trenchcoats running about (most with Ninja Run). -

I mentioned Damage Auras briefly in conjunction with Spin but that was it. I suppose Damage Auras aren't very exciting really. They are effective over time, but it's easy to forget how it all mounts up with them.
Best, as this thread illustrates, is a horribly subjective term. Everyone will have a favourite for whatever reasons (flashiness, animation, huge orange numbers, back up quickly, secondary effecrs, always running etc).
Soul Drain is an awesome AOE for it's "secondary" effect -
Quote:Given how badly NCSofts Marketing and Legal teams have come down on certain EU Members offering designs and samples of merchandise previously (Cease and Decease letter heavy, even though the end recipient of any profit was the Draw the World charity) I doubt we'll ever see anything like this.At HeroCon 2009, we had posters, pint glasses (with the hero and villain logos), pins, t-shirts (hero, villain, and 5th anniversary t-shirts), art collection books, and a couple other things.
Personally, I would love to see Paragon Studios go whole hog with a CafePress site if they can't get NCsoft to help out. Stuff for all the archetypes ("Good, bad, I'm the guy with the War Mace"), t-shirts for the task forces ("I survived the Quaterfield Hell Force"), the various factions ("Property of Crey Research Department"), and all that good stuff.

I still have samples of them somewhere in fact. The Mastermind bibs are excellent. -

Best I've tried so far is Spin. Stupidly low recharge and you get it at level 6. The one AOE you can end up using over and over again, even with SOs. Combine with a Damage Aura and you're sorted for AOE damage.
FSC is a great AOE too but the recharge is a little too long to be used multiple times on the same spawn (if FSC is recharged at the same spawn you're doing it wrong somewhere). Mind you with FSC you can combine it with Shields...
"Best" is such a loose and argumentative term. I'd go with Spin for an SOed character though. Shield Charge is amazing but even when you do wipe Spawn #1 out with it you've then got to wait a bit for it to come back for Spawn #2. Spin should be back in the time it takes you to toddle from the corpses of #1 to #2 (it recharges in 9.6 seconds unslotted).
I wonder how crappy Claws/Shields looked to the devs animation-wise, it'd be a godly combo. -
Quote:Have they not fixed that yet? Surely the button should disable itself and switch to a Please Wait message the first time it's pressed (that's how I dealt with impatient end-users placing multiple orders).Yeah, I have yet to see an actual date anywhere. If it's not for sale by Thursday, they'll have to...gently massage the statement about having Dual Pistols for DXP weekend. My guess is tomorrow, simply because most stuff relating to CoX is Tuesday-oriented.
Two things to keep in mind: they may have agreements with various websites to host special revelatory information, so don't just F5 the main boards.
Also, when you DO purchase it, you'll be purchasing with a lot of other people. Hit BUY once. ONCE. If you hit it more than once, well...some people just don't seem to understand this concept. -

Quote:It's widely known this side of the pond that the Rabbit rules with an iron paw!So... you don't want to be part of a SG because most of them have "draconian rules"... thus you refuse to create your own SG...
...my head hurts now.
I think Rabbits point was that solo-SGing is just too tricky to do on your own since there's no way to easily invite all your alts. An Email system is a far less convoluted way to do transfers than messing with SG bases and trying to wrangle Alts into them somehow. -
Kinetics anything. I do have a pair of stagnant Kin characters (Dark/Kin corrupter and a Kin/Elec defender) stuck in their mid 20s. Never, ever going back to them again.
Can't ever see myself playing a Tank ever again (my original character was a tank, he got deleted eventually mid-20s because he was rubbish). Not my cup of tea.
A year ago I'd have also said Brutes and Scrappers but I've changed my mind on them. Mind you my newest, a Fire/Shield scrapper is rather dull. Great damage but just not very interesting to me. -
Gotta agree with Rent and Atonement to some degree. 135 people on-line at 9pm on a Friday is frankly rubbish. And 140 at the same time Saturday night. Blue side (red side is even worse at the mo).
Think it's time to vote with my feet and switch accounts again as at the moment playing City of Soloing isn't that much fun. All I'm doing at the mo is farming AE arcs because solo play pre level 20 is so utterly dull. -
Quote:A few of them do that. Life (the BBC David Attenborough narrated show)had a bug (not a spider but hey) with loads of baby bugs who took too long to deliver some fruit to her babies. So the babies took up and left, finding another nest of the same sort of bugs to co-habit with. So the second mum suddenly had twice the workload in terms of feeding her babies. So much work that she ended up dying of exhaustion. The lovely babies then ate her corpse before departing.Wait, really? Do we actually know that? (I'm asking with genuine interest. I want to learn science)
If I was one of those bugs I think I'd be like the first mum, since being a good mother is apparently rewarded with being worked to death and then eaten.
Life in the Undergrowth is a great show if you're interested in bugs, there's some crazy stuff in it (a Wasp grub which lives on a spider, eating it slowly and then when it wants to pupate drives its host insane causing it to entomb itself and the grub in silk, perfect for pupating).
Not to mention the truly horrific ant brain fungus...
I love those shows. -
I use them all the time too. No idea they had a habit of dropping though.
A "Team looking for members" system would be a godsend, something I've wanted for aaaages. -
Quote:Our Flag system is handy but I've been using it a lot and not getting many hits. A "Look for Members" / "Open Team" system a la WAR would be a fantastic addition.Yeah, agreed (although I'd have said it in a less bolshy way, admittedly).
I've played numerous MMOs and this has by far the best pick up group system that I've played. It's why I keep coming back.
Weirdly though our dependence on instances makes our PuGs much friendlier than WARs. In WAR you sorta join a PQ team, say very little, do the Public Quest and then disband. Even for our Events the same sort of thing happens.
An Open Team system coupled with our friendly PuGs running instanced missions would be a dream combo for me.
